I've been to Sendo 3 times now. Every time I've had the Hokkaido set which is 10 nigiri, 2 handrolls and a mini kaisen don aka mini rice bowl with assorted fish for $48. This is their most expensive option. My first commentary is the rice. Most places phone it in on the rice. The places most people find themselves returning to, whether they are aware of it or not, have epic rice. Sendo clearly put a lot of work into their rice recipe and it really elevates the fish. Secondly, the quality of their fish rivals that of a sushi place that is charging at least twice the price. The akami, seabass, mackerel, scallop, chopped toro, daikon handroll and botan ebi were quite memorable for me. Lastly, the price. I mean, I don't know how the owners are still in business charging the prices for this fish. I don't expect it to last long at this price. I'll be back many more times. It's a great place for a 30-60 minute meal, a few drinks and for me a great place for 1-1 work meals. I just hope they put one in the UES cause the sushi up here is either overprice or trash. read more

So sad bc I was really looking forward to trying sendo! Ruined our entire night by not being honest about wait time. We put our name down for a table at 7:30 pm and were told it would be a 30-45 minute wait. At 8:20 we walked back in and were told by the host it would be an extra 30 mins. Called back at 9 pm to be told it was just 5 more minutes until our table would be ready, but no one contacted us. At 9:30 pm I called again and asked how much longer we would have to wait. They said they couldn't really say and gave no explanation as to why they weren't honest about the wait time to begin with. I have no problem with waiting but not when it turns from 30-45 minutes to 2 hours. Thanks again for ruining my night :/ read more

Solid omakase spot, I added the botan ebi nigiri a la carte with my Tokyo set and it turned out to be one of my favorite pieces! The restaurant is the first door up the flight of stairs and it is a tight squeeze when it's busy, not to mention a bit chaotic. There can be a wait, but it's easy to just grab a glass of wine nearby while you wait for the text. Inside feels special and cozy, with the sushi chefs serving you directly. If you have someone who's disabled or can't do stairs, be very difficult for them to come to this restaurant. For the price point this spot is great! Small but quality beer and sake selection. Some of the fish pieces were good and some were excellent. Top contenders today were the mackerel, king salmon and the additional piece of santa barbara uni we selected. Portions were filling and our chef was friendly and open to accommodations if needed ie more wasabi, less wasabi, less rice. We didn't put in any of those requests - he put together each piece perfectly. We like that that each piece was simply just rice and fish - a nice break from the trend of having toppings on nigiri. Also a much nicer space than we had anticipated. $47 omakase, you cant lose. read more

Had a bridal shower. The manager called me because there was a slight hiccup. It was supposed to be a pick up, they delivered the food because they were a little late. Delicious and the packaging was so beautiful. Everyone devoured everything within 10 minutes. Highly recommend for catering any event. It will wow your guests the the beauty and taste! So fresh! I am excited to say that Sendo is not one of those places at all. Though new, there is passion behind the work, reflected in the high quality of the fish, the nuance in the flavor, and the excellence of the rice. The chefs hail from decorated omakase places, and the fish is imported fresh from Japan. Not only has Sendo perfected its foundations, but it keeps pricing quite affordable and very fair, punching far, far above its pricing weight class. During my stay in New York this summer, I have attended 8 different omakase places at various price points, and a similar amount the previous summer as well. I can confidently put Sendo in my top 3 sushi experiences in New York, and I am excited to come back for more. read more
