Uka omakase is a spot that completely blew us away. From the moment we sat down, the hospitality was amazing...our waiter and chef were both so friendly, patient, and took the time to explain every single piece to us. They made the whole experience feel so welcoming and personal. What we also loved is that for an omakase spot in the city, the value is honestly incredible. A fresh 16-course omakase for around $56 is almost unheard of, especially with this level of quality. Every bite tasted incredibly fresh and literally melted in your mouth. You can really tell how much care goes into each course, and the experience felt way more high-end than the price point. Definitely a spot we'll be coming back to, we already want to try the VIP 18-course counter experience.

Amazing place definitely come! Staff is so nice and fish is fresh! 16 courses for $56 and if you do 5pm or 8:45pm reservation you get a free bottle of sake. Really great can't wait to come back. Sean and Jason are the best

I was visiting from out of town and stumbled upon this omakase restaurant near my hotel, so I decided to give it a try. It ended up being one of my favorite dining experiences of the entire trip. Huge thanks to Jason and Chef Steven for taking such great care of my friend and I. From the ambiance and service to the overall vibe, everything was unforgettable. This will definitely be a must-visit spot every time I'm in New York.

Food (5/5): Solid and fresh Omakase with a 16 course for $56 deal. The price is good but be aware they tack on a 25% automatic gratuity. Most of the cuts were melt in your mouth and amazing. Service (4/5): Good service and it's interesting that most of the chefs were decked out in designer clothes. The automatic 25% is a bit bothersome but the staff were helpful and we had no issues. Ambiance (5/5): Upscale decorated interior. In addition to the staff wearing designer, there were also rolex wall clocks and other overpriced flashy stuff around the restaurant. Interesting design choice but made the restaurant stand out.

What a bargain 16 pcs omakase for $56 in Midtown! Started with miso soup and ended with yummy matcha ice cream, so satisfying!!! The service from the two waiters was warm and quite entertaining. Such a great Sunday brunch!

Food 10/10 Service 10/10 Ambiance 10/10 Made a Resy Reservation for 5PM reservation for this VIP 18 course, we were seated on their 2nd floor. Lucky us it was private , just the chief and a staff member. This is probably the most reasonable priced Omakase, the fish were fresh, their sashimi selection was excellent loved their seasoned salmon sashimi and the toro pieces the most. Each nigiri was very good fish to rice ratio was perfect. The service was really something else , maybe it was due to being the only guests in the vip counter but we had a lot of fun interacting with the chief and the staff. Overall I would recommend and would definitely come back.

NYC's only Hermès omakase! Serving a full VIP 18-course experience on Hermès tableware--yes, even the teapot and decor. From delicate bites to premium selections, every course felt elevated, both in taste and presentation. The attention to detail made this one stand out from your typical omakase. They also offer more affordable options, starting from $38-$56, but we tried the $99 premium and it was 100% worth it. Easily one of the best I've had in NYC! Follow me @foodie.elite on IG and Tiktok for more great finds!

56$ for 16 sushi courses (12 nigiri) was an absolute steal. You are seated at the sushi counter depending on what course you make your reservation for. Service was quick - we missed the names of the pieces, but we left happy. The vanilla ice cream lightly sprinkled with some tiny crunch brought the meal together at the end. The unagi nigiri was one of my personal favorites of the night. For the price, we were very happy - notably if you are looking for top tier sushi, this probably isn't the place for you.

In my quest to try all the affordable omakases in the city, I found Uka omakase and was excited to try it out. Be sure to make a reservation! Our timing was full and it was right when they opened. We went during their "happy hour" timing and so got a discount on a bottle of sake. They are also very generous and offer a complimentary cup or two of their house sake to the guests. Overall, we weren't that blown away by the experience. We liked the variety of flavors and topping choices for some of the pieces. The fish also seemed decent quality. Our reservations lie in inconsistencies in the final sushi pieces that were served, and also the sizes of the pieces. I've been to a handful of budget omakase places now and this place had by far the smallest pieces. The size of the fish also had a lot of variety, even between the sizes served to our party. We had a lady next to us with a bright light who was filming and photographing all the pieces and we definitely felt that her pieces seemed a bit larger at times. In summary, Uka omakase wasn't bad but I think I would recommend other omakase places first.

We had a great time Saturday! The food was great and the service was impeccable. We loved that the chef and the sake people came over to talk to us! We had a great time and the selections were superb. Get the VIP room seating, you won't regret it!

$56 for 16 courses? Literally the best omakase deal ever. Uka Omakase somehow does affordability without compromising on quality. My top 3 items were definitely the hand roll, the Chutoro nigiri and the Otoro nigiri. All of the items were super good and it was very well paced. 100/10 would recommend to anyone traveling to NYC p.s they also have a $38, 10-course lunch option too!

I came here with 2 friends on a Wednesday night and they were packed! They currently offer $56 for 16 courses, which includes 2 apps, 12 nigiri pieces, a hand roll, and a dessert. The sushi was very fresh and served in a unique way. I especially loved the otoro piece with chutoro on top (tuna on tuna!) and the salmon piece with foie gras because I just love foie gras. The wait staff was also really nice and even gave us a free shot of house sake during the meal. We also got a bottle of the lychee sake to share and it paired well with the sushi. What really impressed me was the cups they served the sake in. At the bottom of the cup was a lotus flower and it was so pretty! Such a nice touch to the overall vibe and ambience. The dessert was also a nice finish to the meal. I love black sesame and this was a kind of sherbet (so less creamier and icier than ice cream) but still very flavorful! I'd definitely come back again because it's so affordable and the fish is such good quality. - Steelhead trout appetizer - Miso soup - Sea bream - Miso cod - Mackerel(?) with yuzu - Akami (bluefin tuna) with mushroom - Chutoro with wasabi - Otoro with chutoro on top (double tuna!) - Branzino with spicy garlic - Ima aji (mackerel) with seaweed paste - Scallop with yuzu sauce - Salmon with foie gras - A5 wagyu - Unagi (eel) - Chutoro hand roll - Black sesame sherbet - Yuki Nigori lychee sake

I'm always a little skeptical of restaurants that open and instantly blow up on social media, but when something is good, it's good--and Uka Omakase was fantastic. Dining without a reservation is still nearly impossible, but my party of five got lucky walking at 5pm (first dinner seating) on a Wednesday. We managed to get the only open seats, as the rest of the place was fully booked. We each ordered the classic 16-course omakase set, which included a sashimi appetizer, soup, 13 pieces of nigiri, and green tea ice cream for dessert. Every course struck the perfect balance between bold and subtle flavors. The fish ranged from salmon to toro to madai, but each piece was incredibly fresh and savory. For drinks, we ordered a bottle of the yuzu sake, which was aromatic, light, and refreshing. Service was excellent across the board, from the host to the sushi chef to the servers. We even received complimentary sake during the meal. At $56 per person, the classic 16-course set is an amazing value considering the quality and service. If you're looking for great omakase at a reasonable price, Uka can't be beat.

I am a sucker for delicious Katsu and you'll struggle to find better than Katsu-Hama. Katsu-Hama…read morehas a quaint, Japanese vibe in a small but comfortable dining area. It's not especially big, so you may have a bit of a wait if you frequent right at lunch or in the evening but whatever amount of time you have to wait it will be well worth it. Service is top tier but you come for the food. They have a varied menu with a lot of options so if you're bringing a buddy that isn't up for Katsu, they'll have plenty to choose from. The Katsu is the star and I think what sets this place apart is that they offer Berkshire pork katsu as an option. Arguably some of the best pork, it's great to have the option if you're looking to heighten the experience. I love their pork katsu and go nuts over the chicken katsu curry. It's super crispy, slightly greasy but never off-putting. And it's served with the most delicate and delicious cabbage slaw. I could eat a mountain of this it's so good. Highly recommended.

This place is a bit hard to spot, but it's on the same side of the street as the sorta famous (50…read moreyears +) Phil's Stationery. Katsu-Hama is about two doors to the Left of Phil's, and has minimal, very discreet signage. I got some tonkatsu...I forget the exact type, but it was essentially the most fatty of the tonkatsu offered. It came with cabbage (with a sesame ginger type dressing), daikon radish (with some type of sauce on top), and the standard sauce for the tonkatsu, along with some crushed sesame seed and hot mustard. I'd have to say...the tonkatsu was quite good....not quite as sublime as my favorite tonkatsu place in Tokyo...but still, very, very good. The dish also came with a bowl of miso soup (good, and not overly salty) and a bowl of white rice, which I considered the most disappointing part of the meal. The rice seemed a bit dried out...not moist.... All in all, an excellent meal. I'd definitely come back.

The creamy kimchi udon was ok. It didn't feel like one dish, but tasted good. The una don was great. Good sauce and blend of supporting veggies to enhance the taste. Service was super quick. Interior was cramped and loud. Really fitting as many tables as they can in the space. I saw others mentioning to make reservations. I went without one and got lucky. Many of the clientele are Japanese so we knew we were at an authentic place. We got: - Fried oysters: the batter was light and crispy and oysters piping hot - Vinegared Mackerel w/ Ponzu Sauce: fresh & tangy - Intestines Hotpot: comforting & light despite the fattiness of the intestines - Creamed Mentai Udon: they split it in 2 small bowls for us since we were sharing. Udon had a nice bouncy chew and sauce was not heavy We also got a bottle of sake, and they poured it in a beautiful sake decanter to keep it cold. First time seeing cold sake presented this way which was very cool. We tried Suntory draft beer since that was the only draft they had, which was odd since most Japanese places carry Asahi/Sapporo, definitely not as light as the other two beers I'm used to. Even though I was stuffed by the end, I didn't feel lethargic, everything felt light without compromising flavor. Service was attentive although our udon came at the very end, we thought they had forgot about it.

There are a few restaurants in NYC that make you feel like you are stepping into a Japan portal,…read moreand Okatte Tanto is no doubt one of those. As you step into the restaurant, you immediately feel a sense of formality and strictness. It's also very quiet in the restaurant, and friendly to solo diners, adding on more to the Japan-esque feel. The food is high quality here, but the portions are small, and it is pricey. I would budget to spend around $100 a person here after tip and tax, if you ignore the prices on the menu and try a variety of things. The tuna from the bone is the most famous dish here, but I was not able to get it as they sell out very fast. But I tried the sashimi and it was high quality -- just that it was not enough food for me. But that makes it more in line with portions back in Japan. They have an extensive sake list and they also have the casual cocktail options like lemon drops you would find in Tokyo. The atmosphere really transports you straight into Japan if that is something you are looking for. Expect to pay a premium for small-ish portions, but at the same time very well-made and authentic food.
