Spicy tuna and spicy scallop roll
Jessica Y.

I thought I already uncovered the best sushi takeouts in mahattan but clearly I was wrong since I never had shinn beforehand! I ordered the chirashi don and the spicy tuna and spicy scallop rolls.Even after delivery, the presentation was beautiful and the rolls were packed with both flavor and fish. I can't wait to order again and try the literally everything don!

I came for their Endless Salmon Series, and it was delicious! My reservation was for 5 PM, and they let us in a bit before. Inside has two bars and they lead you to your seat. The pacing is definitely slower, but I was grateful for that by the end. The display of salmon was beautiful, and watching the chefs cut each piece was amazing. I ate about 28? pieces in total, and was full by the end of it. The cuts of salmon get significantly thicker by the end, and I wish I had the stomach to eat more!

Endless Salmon - endless fun! Went for the endless salmon situation. They start prepping the salmon as you're being sat. Ordered one of the small sake bottles to try helping digest all the salmon - think they had ran out of our initial option so opted for another. Was lots of salmon in its various forms - handrolls, sashimi, sushi, etc. Was all good. Would def come back next time in in NYC!

Okay. I came for their salmon experience and I was both amazed and disappointed... but it's the experience that makes this a 5 star. They had 3 different salmons with maybe 5-6 different flavor profiles that they would rotate. The three were the Atlantic char, the king salmon and the Scottish salmon. King salmon is your mid to high ground, better quality, fattier, delicious. Scottish is like what you get from most places, but good quality. The all you can eat is 99% the Scottish salmon, hence the disappointment... but the oh man the artic char is the king of the crop. Never have I ever had salmon so delicious, flavorful and tender. I like variety hence I would've dropped a star for how repetitive the meal felt at the end (same flavors all with Scottish salmon) but on the other hand this was my husband's dream omakase as salmon is his absolute favorite.

Came here with some friends for an endless salmon series dinner on Christmas day. The actual store location was a little hard find as the only sign was a paper taped to the door. The inside was very cozy with 2 separate counters for service. The dinner experience was amazing. Chefs did a live salmon breakdown right in front us. Three different salmons were used - king ora salmon from New Zealand, arctic char from New Zealand, and atlantic salmon from Scottland. Although each dish was salmon, they all had their own distinct flavors and textures. Salmon was served the whole night until you ask them to stop. If you love salmon, this is an experience you must try at least once.

Came here for the The Endless Salmon and it did not disappoint. The seating and lighting properly showcase the salmon being presented. Everything was great for the most part, except for the Ikura. This Ikura had a very distinct crunchiness that I've never tasted before. It's definitely an acquired taste. On the other hand all the salmon from New Zealand and Scotland had great texture and consistency. The creme caviar salmon dish was my favorite, along with the salmon w/truffle. The sashimi slices were also very buttery. Service was very attentive, as the chefs would immediately place a new piece in front of you each time, until you tap out. The only nuisance was the two guests right next to us complaining about their love life at 500% volume the entire night.

Our server was excellent. She consistently ensured my tea stayed hot and attentive service never lapsed. The courses themselves were thoughtfully prepared and well-executed. Well balanced and delicious. I deducted one star only because, while clearly talented, the chef did not engage with the room. I'm not referring to casual conversation, but rather a sense of presence. Additionally, I felt somewhat uncomfortable requesting dietary accommodations. I cannot eat certain types of fish, and the chef came across as unapproachable, which made that interaction more difficult than it needed to be. Overall solid experience with a small frame of improvement.

We came for the endless salmon dinner! The location is kind of hard to find. Google Maps said it was on the other side of the street, and the windows to this place were kind of blocked out so it was hard to tell that we were at the right door. Once we were inside, you could see it was split into 2 sides. Both sides were omakase, with 3 chef stations. The endless salmon was really nice. It started with the chiefs preparing the salmon. And once they were done, they started making the different pieces. Once they have finished serving the main sets of omakase, they will serve you a couple of repeats of salmon pieces until you say that you are done! I ate around 28 pieces! I came out of this experience really, really full. I would definitely recommend going, and I would definitely come back!

Love this 13 courses for $69 omakase I love that it's 12 sushi pieces and 1 hand roll-no app fillers. Service was great just know that it's hard to find because the map has it on the opposite side of the street. Super yummy!!

Food: I came here for the Endless Salmon Series which I overall thought was good but not exceptional. The Endless Tuna Series at Tsumo was better in my opinion. The Endless Salmon Series is a 90-minute meal which starts off by the sushi chefs bringing out three whole salmon (different types) for you to see before carving into them. You are served many courses and pieces until you tell the sushi chef to stop. At the end of the 90 minutes, time is up, and you must leave because they need to prepare for the next seating. The fish was very fresh, and mostly everything was delicious. Some pieces/courses included sashimi, nigiri with various toppings (black truffle, pickled wasabi, ginger scallion, foie gras, salmon roe, caviar), and two handrolls (spicy salmon and salmon with cucumber). My favorites were the spicy salmon handroll and the nigiri with the foie gras topping. Some items that weren't enjoyable were the smoked trout roe (hard and flavorless), a nigiri piece with yuzu (bitter and unpleasant taste), the wasabi seaweed chips (didn't pair well with the salmon and caviar dish - it seemed like a cheap snack to go along with the fish and caviar which wasn't a good pairing), and the salmon roe bowl (extremely salty). Someone in another group that was seated near us was still hungry at the end of the 90 minutes, but the sushi said that time was up. Although everyone in our group was very full and satisfied, it didn't seem fair that more sushi pieces could have been served to the other customer; the chefs do take a while to get the first piece of sushi out in the beginning so it didn't feel like a true 90 minutes. For the price that customers pay for this meal, it seems only fair that they are getting the full 90 minutes of eating and not being told that time is up if they are still asking for a few more pieces. Service: Staff were very attentive, constantly refilling water and removing empty dishes. However, one of the servers did knock the glass water pitcher into my shoulder which was a bit strange and shocking. Sushi chefs were friendly. One very off-putting thing to note is that our sushi chef used a wet cloth to wipe down each person's sushi plate after eating every few pieces/courses. This was very concerning for sanitary reasons. I am surprised that any restaurant, especially an upscale one like this, would do this. After wiping down everyone's plate, he rinsed the cloth under water at the sink and continued to use it to wipe down the counter and cutting board. If you notice the sushi chef doing this, I would ask them not to wipe down your plate. I hope this is something the restaurant can look into and change going forward. Ambiance: The restaurant is a good size with two very large sushi bars in it. All seating is at the sushi bar, Seating it a bit tight because they try to fit as many people as possible into the car, but the decor is overall simple and elegant. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant, but there is definitely room for improvement on their part.

Went to unlimited salmon twice! Could not eat more than 5 pieces after the set course

Fresh Salmon before being prepared

Went for The Endless Salmon Series at Shinn West and had a great experience. The featured King Ora Salmon, Arctic Char and Atlantic Salmon prepared a piece at a time and it was truly endless. Unless you don't like Salmon (which means you shouldn't have been there in the first place!) it was impossible to leave not completely full. The fish was extremely fresh and prepared right in front of you. Friendly and attentive service in a relatively intimate atmosphere. Terrific event!

$69 for 13 nigiri/courses. The food quality was great with a variety of fishes and preparations (torched nigiri, caviar, truffle, hand roll). That said, the service was not. While the sushi chef was friendly, he did not explain much of what we were eating nor was he particularly engaging/interactive. We ordered a sake and the waitress spilled a portion of it when pouring. There's one bathroom for the whole restaurant. You get 1 hour to eat and as soon as you finish your courses, you are rushed to leave because they need the seat for the next person. Pricing was not ideal (a la carte is pricy and the charge for tea is $8). Ambiance felt sterile.

The atmosphere here was a bit more lively and crowded compared to the more relaxed vibe of the UWS spot. I enjoyed my meal even more this time around. I started with the beet salad, which was delicious and offered great value given the generous portion size. it featured sliced beets, arugula, goat cheese, and walnuts. I also had my eye on the hijiki soybean salad--which is a bit smaller and reportedly homemade--so I may try that next time, along with the warm mushroom salad which looked very tasty. The edamame was standard but served as a nice starter. For my main rolls, I chose the salmon avocado and the yellowtail scallion. Both were very fresh and definitely worth ordering again. The salmon avocado roll had a nice touch of sesame seeds on the rice, while the yellowtail scallion was prepared with the seaweed on the outside. My boyfriend's sushi entree looked excellent, so I am considering that or the sushi-sashimi combo for my next visit. The entrees provide a substantial amount of food, and I especially appreciate that they allow you to choose which roll comes with your meal.

They share a takeout menu and it's super easy to order--text what you want to the phone number on the website and pickup in ~20 minutes :). You pay on a handheld and they don't ask for tip for takeout. I love this process and truly wish more sushi restaurants in LA adopt the takeout box. The only one I know of is hefty but also $200 each lol, making Sanyuu's $69 omakase and $78 Everything don, not to mention the $30 giant salmon nigiri set, A STEAL! I enjoyed most of the pieces but I will say I don't like their amaebi or uni at all. I'm not sure what kind of uni is used here but it's the type with a very strong mineral flavor & aftertaste that I don't find enjoyable. We're spoiled by easy access to live spot prawns everywhere and fresh SB uni. Despite this, I wouldn't hesitate to come back if I lived in the city.

To be honest, I was getting a little nauseated after 5 pieces, haha~ They were definitely delicious but I'd probably just eat 3 or 4 pieces and share with a friend! It was easy to text the number on the website and coordinate a pickup time, and the staff was friendly when I arrived.
