I've left like 2 YELP reviews my entire life but this one felt warranted. I cannot, in good faith, recommend dining at Souaji West. Let me explain why. You get 3 omakase courses (very good). Miso soup (delicious), all you can drink (awesome), then you get to the AYCE. AYCE comes in 3 rounds: lean tuna, fatty tuna, and wagyu. The catch: you are required to tell the waiter how many pieces you want of each round before they bring round 1. Put simply... it is your job to estimate BEFORE having tried any of the AYCE sushi, precisely how many of all three rounds you want. Anything left over (including rice), is $10 a pop. You can't have round 1 and think to yourself "wow, I am more full than expected, I no longer want 8 pieces for round 3." Too late. You cannot tell yourself "wow, the fatty (round 2), is WAY better than the lean (round 1), and therefore I would like a few more pieces before round 3 begins." Again, too late. The AYCE order needs to be placed all at once, welcoming in mental gymnastics and (maybe) a bit of game theory. Their marketing is quite misleading on this. The goal of SourAji is to get you in, and promptly get you out. No wining and dining. Waiters are unfriendly, robotic even, and exist only to bring your courses as quickly as possible so as to usher in the next group as quickly as possible. Our reservation was for 8:30 but they didnt let us in until 8:40ish, and they close at 10. Hard 10 -- like everybody get out, no more drinks, etc. The sushi was good, not great. But being rushed and forced to make split second decisions about all three AYCE meals at once was unenjoyable. For many new yorkers, it's a good deal. what's $100 to people living in manhattan. if that's you, give it a shot. youll likely leave telling your partners, "that was good. wouldnt go back but good." If you are a tourist or working on a tighter budget -- particularly if you are splurging for a birthday/occasion and want a nice upscale omakase -- this is NOT for you. Overall felt commercialized. Never felt "welcomed" in a way a nice restaurant ought to make its guests feel. Oh, and the lighting is way too harsh :) read more

After countless cups of the excellent AYCD plum liquor and 25 pieces of sushi, I left VERY drunk, VERY happy. i left after 25 pieces of AYCE sushi (not including the 12 courses before) feeling slightly sick and very happy from the excellent AYCD plum liquor. unfortunately i dont think im enough of a sushi connossieur to be doing omakase on the regular, u really CAN tell how fresh each cut was from the texture alone. the wagyu foie gras was standout, by a large margin. the moment it hit my tongue i was in shock--so rich smoky and umami, it was the essence of meat. so was the toro uni handroll, but only really because it was my first time tasting whole fresh uni, it certainly did taste like the ocean and had slight sweetness. I've had uni a couple of other times and this is definitely the freshest I've had! other highly recommendeds include the red snapper (texture was so thick and fluffy?) and the yellowtail (so silky, always a classic), but honestly every piece had its revelations. Service was good and the fish/wagyu were good. Only downside for us was the rice -- it's VERY vinegary ("SourAji" makes sense now lol). After the first round, the vinegar taste overpowered the fish. The larger the quantity requested, the more salt/sodium was tucked into the sushi. I made the reservation about 2 days before and still got to chef counter spots. Very cute set up! There's about 3-4 chefs for 20 ish guests. Everyone was talking and eating at the same time so sometimes it's hard to hear what the chef was describing the course. It's so fun though to watch how he rolled each and put it in front of you. This is my first omakase experience and I was very excited since it's in NYC. I was definitely full at the end since there were 3 rounds of AYCE on top of the 14 courses. Don't know why the ratings are low but I went yesterday 4/2/2026 had chef Alan serving us and everything tasted amazing and the fish was high quality. Probably the better AYCE omakase I've had in the city and chef Alan really made the experience for us too. The omakase course was so good, it wasn't gimmicky, it highlighted the quality of the fish, and most were melt in your mouth. The only piece I wasn't a big fan of was the maki piece - not sure if it has radish in the middle but I think they should've kept the soft texture versus adding a crunchy bit just my opinion. The AYCE round? WOW yeah their lean tuna is one of the best I've had in the city and the quality of the fish per round was so good. For the sake, def recommend the Takara Plum Wine if you like it on the sweeter end. Not pictured but yes, they give you miso soup. Coming back here next big back meal! read more

I was a last minute fill in for my friend's party of 8 and honestly, it was a great experience. We had a 5:30PM reservation and we were all seated promptly. The restaurant advertises as AYCE, but it's not really a true AYCE. You get 14 courses / pieces of sushi omakase and then you get 3 rounds of unlimted AYCE - but the rounds are set by the sushi chef. For us, we had the option of tuna, fatty tuna, and wagyu beef. You have to let them know at the beginning of the round how many pieces you want and if you don't finish any, they will charge you. We tried to negotiate to see if we could do salmon instead of one of the tuna rounds, but no dice. I will have to say, they did end up giving us a few pieces of salmon each as a consolation prize at the end, so that was very nice of them. There are also 4 kinds of sake that you can choose from and that is AYCD. Service was attentive and the omakase itself was very good. A lot of tasty pieces. read more

The quality was also very inconsistent to the point I felt like I was just eating rice. The unlimited toro was paper thin and stringy on a glop of rice. They charge 10 dollar per piece penalty for anything not eaten so I forced it all down even though the quality was lacking. We were in NYC for the weekend and were able to make a reservation for a Friday evening. We arrived a few minutes before the seating, checked in and waited outside until it was time. We reserved for seats at the bar, which I highly recommend as it allows you to interact with the sushi chefs and eat each piece as they make it! We loved all of the dishes of the omakase, especially the otoro. We ordered multiple pieces of the AYCE round at the end, saving our stomachs for the fatty tuna (toro) and Wagyu. The meal also comes with unlimited drinks so we got to try all 4 Japanese sakes and wines and my favorite was the plum wine, which was sweet tasting. Came here over the summer for my sister's birthday and this place was awesome! I will preface by saying I'm not an omakase connoisseur quite yet and have only been to a handful as I find them pricey. This place was attractive because you get three rounds of all you can eat after the 10+ courses and unlimited sake which I wish I took more advantage of. There's also dessert included (mochi ice cream). Everything was quite delicious, and there was a variety of fish that participated in the menu. It didn't taste like they were using low quality ingredients as part of the AYCE deal- the only catch is that you have to finish exactly everything you order or there will be a surcharge which I think is fair. Made a reservation for my friends birthday - as a party for 2. If you would like a bit more space I would recommend that you choose to sit by the window instead of the bar. The window seemed much roomier than the more cramped bar seating. However, it might be worth keeping in mind that if you sit at the window you do not get served piece by piece and instead get plates of 3-5 pieces at a time. Not a big deal to us so we appreciated the space the window seating offered. We loved the freshness of the fish but I wish there was a bit more variety to the omakase set. It was mainly nigiris and there weren't any accompaniments or toppings on 90% of the courses. The last piece was a slice of a roll but im not sure what was in it - but it felt like a very random mix of items and didn't really highlight any particular fish or seemed very harmonious. Another somewhat letdown was their drink selection - I appreciated their alcohol drink selection ( included 3 sakes & plum wine) but the only option for non-alcohol drinkers was hot tea. My girlfriends first omakase and it was a success! We arrived 20 mins early for our reservation so we sat down at the bench by the window while the earlier time slot finished up. Once it was closer to our start time, the hostess brought us to our seats. Alcoholic drinks (beer and sake) were included in the price and can be continuously refilled. We really liked the plum sake, it was sweet as advertised. All the pieces that were selected today were delicious. Our favorite pieces were definitely the sea bass, salmon, shrimp, and eel. You can really taste how fresh it was! There were 12 sushi pieces, a miso soup, a mochi, and 3 AYCE rounds where you let the staff know how many of each piece you want. We opted for 4 lean tuna, 8 fatty tuna, and 8 wagyu sushis each and it was definitely enough for us to feel satisfied but not overstuffed to the point where we didnt enjoy the food. The fish wasnt too thin and the rice wasnt too large, it was still a good proportion. There were only two chefs and around 15-20 guests so we didnt get to converse with our chef but overall it was still a great experience. We did the omakase and it felt like the restaurant is prioritizing the AYCE model over quality, because the sushi was honestly poor. The cuts of fish were thin and inconsistent, and everything leaned super rice-heavy, which made it feel like you were paying for filler instead of fish. On top of that, several pieces had an unpleasant fishy smell and taste that killed my appetite. That is not what you expect when you're spending close to $100 per person. For the omakase sets before the AYCE rounds, we were given a plate with 5 pieces, then 4 pieces, then 3 pieces, for a total of 12 pieces. Then we have 3 rounds of AYCE. However, you're only able to state the amount that you want once for each round. The first round of AYCE was lean tuna, second round was fatty tuna and third round was Wagyu. You have to have a good idea of how many you want to eat (and can eat) before ordering each round because you don't have the option to add more later on. If you don't finish it, you are charged for each piece left. Overall, a pleasant experience, but I didn't enjoy the fact that you had to know exactly how many pieces you want for each round of ayce. This was such a great omakase experience! The atmosphere in the restaurant was fun from the moment I entered - it seemed like everyone was eager to have an amazing meal. I personally was looking forward to the "all you can eat" after the omakase, but I enjoyed the courses better than the AYCE, and honestly would have been very satisfied without it. The portions were generous and each sushi was crafted so perfectly. My top favorite courses included Sea Bass, Spanish Mackerel, Smoked Sable Fish, and Fatty Tuna with Uni. Really good quality fish here! The experience was unforgettable, I left feeling extremely full (be careful with the AYCE!!). If you are visiting NY this is a must! My boyfriend and I heard about this place by watching food blogs and needed to try an all you can eat omakase place in person because we were shocked! I was able to book a reservation same day through open table app but you can also schedule online. Omakase is about 12 rounds with all you can drink sake and beer! There is time after the traditional omakase round to order additional nigiri. I believe there were three or four rounds, each a different fish. You have to order up front and cannot change your order. There is a penalty fee if you do not finish but that isn't a problem because the quality of the fish is amazing! One of the best AYCE and AYCD omakase experience and a great price at under $100 ($98 to be exact). You start with a 12 course omakase experience and then you get to order as many pieces of otoro (fatty tuna), toro (leaner cut of tuna) and wagyu beef nigiri. Note, each piece of uneaten sushi is $10. Also to note, it may be difficult to make a reservation so plan! For 4 people, we made reservations the month earlier and got a later time than we originally wanted. The vibe here is minimal, bright and intimate. You'll most likely be making friends with the people seated next to you and they will be able to hear your whole conversation. This is a great place to have good sushi, a nice buzz, and conversations with friends (probably not more than 4). Reservation only; there's only about 20 seats (bar) inside, and it does get quite crowded. As we were leaving, there was a line of people (about 10-15) who had reservations but were waiting for us to finish, so be sure to make a reservation earlier in the day. Staff is very friendly and helpful, offering to check our coats and asking if we wanted tea or sake; our sushi chefs were equally genial and quick when serving us. The menu is set, with omakase (chef's choice) for about $100 per person. It's a first course of 13 pieces of nigiri (see pictures), then 3 courses of AYCE toro (lean tuna), otoro (fatty tuna), and wagyu beef. You'll be asked before each of the AYCE courses how many pieces of sushi you'd like; just keep in mind you can't go backwards and that each piece you don't eat is $10 each. My tip for the AYCE is to save your stomach for the tuna and don't be afraid to skip or have minimal portions of the Wagyu, which was rather tough and not as flavorful. Also, since they don't serve any other foods or sodas, there's nothing but ginger to cleanse your palate, so the AYCEs can get rather monotonous and dry, especially the Wagyu. Regardless, I greatly enjoyed the food here and if you come in a party, your "teammates" can help you eat any food you can't finish. Personally, AYCE isn't worth it for me since I've got a tiny stomach (I could only eat about 20 pieces of sushi total), and I prefer not to gorge myself. However, I'd highly recommend Souraji if you can get a reservation. Prices are superb and the sushi fish tastes higher end, rather than that of value restaurants. read more

The staff seated us and proceeded to provide the menus/beverages fairly quickly. Service was stellar every moment throughout the experience. I felt like our cups were always full. A too good to be true deal that is actually true?? AYCE Otoro and A5 wagyu for just under $100?? While there is a catch, it really doesn't make the deal go "sour". Before you start the ayce, you have to go through their 12 course omakase, which is already a steal by itself since every piece of nigiri was high grade sushi that most $100 omakase would serve you. And those omakase don't come with an ayce round after! After the omakase round, you get 1 ROUND of the unlimited toro nigiri's (you choose how many pieces you want), then you have to move on to the Otoro. Repeat for Otoro, then you finish with the seared A5 Wagyu nigiri's. The fish to rice ratio wasn't out of proportions, but it did feel like there was a bit more rice than necessary. If you're smart like me, skip the round of the toro (lean tuna). I went for 12 pieces of Otoro and the fish taste as fresh as it could get. Naturally sweet and not a hint of fishiness. I wish I ordered more of the Otoro and skipped the wagyu because a lot of the wagyu pieces were cut so thin I felt like I was eating seasoned sushi rice. Last piece of advice, and the last catch - DO NOT be like the man next to me trying to impress his girl. Bro ordered 15 pieces of Toro, 20 pieces of Otoro, and 20 pieces of Wagyu. At the end of our hour and a half sitting, there were a good 10+ pieces of rice left on his plate, without the meat on top. My friends and I had an amazing dinner here for our NYC trip, the staff were so kind and friendly the entire night which honestly elevated our experience on top of a great meal. We were a group of 7 and were able to get the corner of the bar; the interior itself was quite slim and had limited seating besides the actual bar, but I enjoyed the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant. I also really enjoyed the meal; it was 12 courses with an AYCE at the end -- our options that day were lean tuna, fatty tuna, and wagyu. The AYCE aspect was a bit difficult to gauge since you only get one chance to order each option, but it didn't affect my experience that much. Our chef's name was Jay and he was wonderful. This place is definitely quantity over quality, but the quality was really disappointing ): We unfortunately got the window seat, with no bag hooks, and which meant the pieces came in clusters, and not one by one like the classic omakase style. None of the fish tasted fresh and a lot of them had uneven seasoning; for example, one piece was too much like yuzu to the point we didn't taste the fish. The chopped fatty tuna with uni was really disappointing because it was just TOO much rice and we didn't even taste the tuna or uni... ALL the pieces were mostly rice, which I get since they would be trying to fill you up.. But just too much. The fatty tuna/ikura roll was also just... not what I expected and the ingredients did not mesh well together. The unlimited sake and ginger were needed to cleanse my palate and sometimes help myself finish the pieces. After the omakase part, they ask you PER type how many you would like. First round is lean bluefin tuna (tuna is VERY thin), second is TORCHED fatty bluefin (thought this was the worst as it wasn't fresh and was pretty fishy), and lastly the A5 wagyu (once again, too much rice and just SO salty. Meat was very thin and had a lot of fatty parts). It's definitely rushed here and you need to eat as fast as you can once the pieces came because they do give you a time warning since the next set of customers are waiting. The half slice of mochi ice cream comes with your A5 wagyu set, which really hints that they are wrapping things up and getting ready for you to leave. I liked the concept and it looked really good on social media, but I felt like overall the pieces were not fresh, weren't seasoned welled, and had way too much rice for me to enjoy the taste of their individual toppings. Just come here if you want to have a fun competition with friends how many pieces you can eat and you enjoy unlimited sake, but I don't think this is a place I would recommend coming multiple times. read more

Souraji West is easily one of the most impressive sushi spots in the city, and their AYCE End Option is the cherry on top of an already stellar omakase experience and inclusive of alchoholic beverages too. After enjoying a beautifully curated progression of courses, we were offered the All-You-Can-Eat End, where you can reorder lean tuna, fatty tune and A5 wagyu beef. It's a sushi lover's dream--with the same premium quality and care as the initial omakase, not a step down like at other AYCE spots. We went all-in on the lean tuna (akami), fatty tuna (otoro), and wagyu beef--and each bite was flawless. The akami was clean, tender, and deeply flavorful. The otoro was rich and melt-in-your-mouth, exactly what you'd hope for in a premium cut. And the wagyu? Perfectly seared, buttery, and indulgent without being overwhelming. The texture and balance of each piece were on point, with warm, well-seasoned rice that complemented the proteins beautifully. What really sets Souraji West apart is their consistency. Can't recommend this place enough! Unlimited drinks, omakase, followed by AYCE sushi for less than $100 - it's hard to find anything with better value than this. The catch is that any piece you can't finish for AYCE will cost you $10 - given that, my friend and I ordered pretty conservatively. I was pleasantly surprised by the relatively high quality of the fish. Service was also really friendly - servers were egging all of us to have more drinks and cheering on those who accidentally over-ordered to finish their pieces as to avoid the $10/pc fee.
