I'm new to the neighborhood, so when I found out that there is a vegan restaurant right down the street I nearly wet my pants with with excitement. When my WATER BOTTLE almost spilled on me...get your mind out of the gutter silly Yelp reader! Went here on a Thursday night and my wife and I ordered two dinner entrees. One was cajun fried chicken with collards and potato salad, the other was chickpea stew with green beans and potato salads. Why did my wife and I order two of the same sides? That's something you'll have to take up with her. We were pleasantly surprised as both were flavorful and delicious. For $10.50 you get an entree (of ample size), two sides, and come cornbread. I sampled the jerk chicken as well which was also muy bueno. Everything is vegan, so no meat, diary, eggs, or anything of that nature. 1/4 of a star off for not making their own, or having good, vegan desserts. They had some sort of chia seed pudding that I wasn't adventurous enough to try. The interior isn't much to look at, but the food is fantastic. The neighboring vegan food store didn't have much available for sale, but their prices were VERY reasonable. It reminded me of a Yes Organic Market that's run by some hippie vegans who weren't sure whether they should restock the shelves after most of their groceries had been sold. I went here for the first time as part of a vegan-themed bachelorette party (yes, your read that correctly!) The staff was incredibly kind and accommodating, especially considering they typically don't host large parties in their cafe/take-out style restaurant. Everyone went out of the way to make sure we felt welcome (and hydrated- it was super hot that day!) The large outdoor area in the back of the restaurant was perfect for our group and everyone loved what they ordered! I had the BBQ tofu, vegan macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. Oh, and a huge piece of delicious corn bread! Summertime goodness! I never would have known this place existed because it's a bit off the beaten path but it's definitely worth the trip and I'm so glad to have discovered it. Epic. Vegan Cajun Fried Chicken: A million little layers of meaty deliciousness, coated in seasoned breading. I am a faux chicken connoisseur, and Senbeb's is ties with Everlasting Life's for best I've ever had. Mock Beef & Broccoli: Again, I've had a lot of mock beef, and this ties for favorite with the Vegetarian Plus kind you can buy at the supermarket. Delicious Vegan Food in the middle of my neighborhood! I had this on my neighborhood yelp list to try and I was not disappointed. I've tried several of their dishes and they all were good. I literally came back 3 days in a row! The only thing I may favor somewhere else is their vegan "mac and cheese". I have had better but it is definitely a preference as theirs is a whole different consistency. It's not "baked" like other restaurants more like kraft so to speak. The "crab cakes" and "seafood " pasta are yummmmm..... How they have come to master that I have no clue but they definitely will have you coming back. Oh and before I forget, vegan hot dog egg rolls! Don't knock it until you have tried it, especially accompanied with the liquid crack they disguise as a mustard sauce. The lady who works there most nights, is sweet as pie a real pleasure. Senbeb is one of the best vegan spots in the city. It's not huge so seating can definitely be an issue. It's more of a Carryout kind of situation. But the food is really good and prices are reasonable especially considering you'll be eating healthy. The crab cakes and potatoe salad are like no other. Every time I good I'm greeted with a smile. Love this place! Their Cajun Fried Chicken is a weekly staple at my house. Situated in a weird place near the Washington DC/Takoma Park border and was a little hard to find my first time. We are not vegan, but becoming more health conscious and more adventurous! We've tried: Cajun Friend Chicken (****+ Mambo Sauce = *****) Chicken and Mushroom Curry (****) Salmon Cakes (***) BBQ Tofu (***) Black Bean Burger (**) Jerk Chicken (***) Sides: Coleslaw (*** - used to be four *, but they changed the recipe to be more mustardy and less spicy...but some people like that) Yams (*** - a little watery yes, but its not drenched in syrup like other places) Collards (**** - yes, a little water too, but its not super salty like normal southern collards and you can actually taste the veggie) Mac and Cheese (***** - i LOVE their mac and cheese! Cant tell its vegan!) Green Beans (*** - little bland) So overall, they get four stars from us...service is always impeccable and the ladies there are soooo sweet! I have looked forward to coming here for ages and finally got in. I had the chicken salad sandwich on toast and it was very good, and it came with a side salad, also good. The down side was that the lady behind the counter was not at all friendly and we even had the sense she didn't want us there. The prices were not listed, which always troubles me--do they make them up as they feel like it? I may go back again but I hope that lady isn't there. read more

The Mr and I went here for breakfast on 12/23/18. They had just opened and they were ready to serve. I got the pancakes and potatoes and was ordering the platter, but b/c I can't do soy, the cashier told me to just get the sides. Thanks for saving HIM some coins. He got the breakfast biscuit, potatoes, apples, red lentil soup and sea moss (and he's tiny) and everything was good. This place has a great menu. Excellent waffles and pancakes on Sunday. I dined in but I don't think there's a lot of seating available, but they package your order in a way so it's very easy to get it take out. I think not good. :( the sides (greens beans/yams) were soggy and yucky, like they'd come out of a can. The chickpea and spinach soup was good, creamy, but not spectacular. I wouldn't go back again just to have it. The cornbread was average-- not as moist as I think it should be. Pretty hard. Meh. The garden salad was crisp and fresh, but tiny as a side. I just felt like I was eating at my mom's house on a day when she just threw together leftovers out of her unhealthy food repertoire. Meh. Now, here's where the two stars come in-- the girl at the register was very sweet, and let me know about the frequent visitor program. Also, the prices were very inexpensive-- but I'm a living foods junky. I like it clean, brightly colored like it just came out of the earth, and organic-- I also like it fresh and mostly raw, so I'm not their target audience here. Went here during a flash blizzard, which added a nice ghostly atmosphere. It was also Valentine's Day, which meant there were actual ghosts just gliding up and down the street outside. It was cool. Cajun chicken sandwich was fried really well but could have used more seasoning. Steak and cheese sandwich was the best vegan steak and cheese I've ever had, though. The food was really quite tasty albeit a tad on the greasy side. I had the steak and cheese sub. I was large enough that I saved half for later. The chocolate strawberry cream cake was absolutely amazing. If my meat eating, non-vegan husband will eat it, it's a winner. My only issue is that prices aren't listed so you can't adequately gauge what you want to spend. This is the Place for health and nutrition. Not only that but the food is amazing. The have a large variety on the menu from day to day and food is warm and tasty. My favorite dish is the Beef and Broccoli. For a Vegetarian meal is greatly priced. Also if you stop by to the health Co-Op next door you will find a variety of supplements, fresh vegetables, drinks, and more. *sigh* Yet another disappointing raw vegan restaurant review I have to write. The cold part about this one is that I attempted to eat here 3 times and ended up getting no food. Well, here goes... Different restaurant, same problems. The person at the register was absolutely clueless about the raw vegan food at the establishment. With each visit/call, they had no knowledge of how the raw food was prepped or when it was prepped. Ultimately, I learned that the food was not made to order or even fresh. With each visit/call, there was limited or no raw food available. The excuse for the consistent lack of food availability was that the raw chef didn't show up, the raw chef had taken the week off, or the raw chef just prepped what she wanted to prep earlier that day and left. After giving this place 3 opportunities, which is more than fair, I have decided to not attempt to dine there in the future. read more

Amazing vegan food at a good price. Do not order food if you're in a rush and want something quick. I always call in my order 30 minutes before I will arrive, and sometimes I will still have to wait for the food...but it's worth the wait. The food is very good and full of flavor. This is the first and last time i will ever be visiting this restaurant. If I wanted something this nasty I could've gone elsewhere. The wait for this food lasted well over thirty minutes, and I thought they were truly cooking up something good. Then once I get the food, it tastes like nothing.
