Our group of 9 ate there last night and sat outside on their patio area. First time for all 9 of us , and we totally enjoyed everything we had. We shared the Mussels Charmoula, Crispy Potstickers. Both were yummy! Everyone enjoyed the amazing beer selection. Myself and two of the other girls really enjoyed our " not today satan" drink. All the drinks sounded great. For our entrees, some had salads , burgers and their specialty hotdogs. We loved both choices of fries , truffle or duck fat.. amazing!! My husband who is a incredible cook and sometimes a hard one to please, really.. really loved his Greek Gyro. Worst hot dog I've ever had. Too lean, no flavor, dry. The bun is like a huge sofa. Impossible to put your mouth into a bite. Totally a knife and fork situation which is weird. The condiments and veggies were fine. I tried the Chicago which is insulting to a Chicago dog, and the actual hot dog is so bland you just can't. A liberal dash of celery salt (as the menu says) may have helped. It's like fine dining for hot dogs in a fancy place where you are afraid to say the hot dog sucks. It sucks. I ordered the Chicago so I could taste the dog without all the extra condiments to mask the flavor. I also had the duck fat fries which were not crispy and the potatoes were limp. Seems like they were old? Sodium did not stick to them from the kitchen so they also seemed bland, limp, and greasy. And the choices are so fun and delicious! If hot dogs are not your thing, no problem! They have many other menu items as well (like poutine, mussels, burger, etc.)! Now let me tell you about the duck fat fries....Of all the fries I've had at the many restaurants around the country, these are hands down one of my favs. They're perfectly cooked, hot, topped with rosemary, and come with a great dipping sauce! Heaven in a cup! In regards to the restaurant itself, both the Over the Rhine and Blue Ash locations are very clean and modern, but with a personable feel. The Senate in OTR is legendary for its hot dogs and long waits. Seriously, why would anyone wait over an hour for a hot dog? No matter how good it is, it's still a tube of meat, not much different than what you can get at any decent grocery store or ball game. With the new location in Blue Ash now open, DLW and I had an opportunity to sample the wares at last. It's in the new development on what used to be the airport, along with Brown Dog Café among others. The whole development is sleek, clean and modern, and so is the Senate. It's quite large, probably 200 seats including the patio, and on their first weekend they were hopping even at 4 pm. Still we didn't have to wait long, and were seated near the kitchen, which is big and open to the dining room. Everyone was hustling, including our friendly waitron. DLW was quite happy with her lobster BLT, with pretty generous amounts of meat. My croquet madame dog was as expected served with sliced ham and a nicely poached egg, messy to eat but the requisite flavors were there. Duck fat fries are the best kind of fries there are, and these are pretty fab versions. Not a cheap meal, $30 before drinks for two sandwiches and one fries. They get away with it in town, so there's no reason to suspect it won't work in the burbs. read more

Mussels were out of this world surprisingly. The grilled bread that came with it was so good and the sauce was . I wanted to just drink it straight. I've tried the Korean and the trailer park hot dog and they are gourmet hotdogs for sure but it's just kind of a lot, was not able to finish the whole thing. Honestly when I go back I think I'm gonna skip the hot dog and go straight for the mussels. Highly recommend. read more

They serve these behemoths on a tray-like plate because there is no way you're going to pick this puppy up and pop it in your mouth. It's a HUGE dog that requires a little civility via fork usage. I've been wanting to try the Senate for a very long time now. The idea of gourmet hot dogs sounded amazing. We finally got a chance to make it out to their new location in Blue Ash and overall I really enjoyed it! We went on a Saturday night. The wait was about an hour. We walked around outside for a bit, that area of Blue Ash has really been built up lately and they've made it a really nice place to hang around. Once we were seated the service was pretty fast. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. There was a jar of water on our table to share..the water wasn't cold, it was pretty lukewarm..which we found a bit odd..but really not that big of a deal. We went with the "Sticky Chicken Wings" for an appetizer and I have to say, they were really really good. They looked great, there was a decent amount of meat on each one, and the sauce that was on them was spicy and sweet..overall very savory. I ordered the "Trailer Park" hot dog without coleslaw. It came with bacon, cheese, and crushed grippos (?!?). It was delicious. The combinations of flavor was just perfect. The hot dog itself had such a nice flavor to it..the bacon and cheese complimented it nicely..and the grippos added a really nice bbq flavor as well as a nice crunch. Overall very very tasty. My girlfriend orderd the "Cleo McDowell Burger" (which in itself is an awesome inside joke to anyone who is a fan of the movie "Coming to America") and I had a couple bites of it. I got to tell you, it tasted like a gourmet version of McDonald's Big Mac. Imagine a Big Mac made with high quality beef and cheese, and a fresh bakery bun..that's what you get there. We also split an order of the Truffle Fries. They were the type of fries I really like, almost like steak fries. They were seasoned very nicely and served with an interesting dipping sauce. The cost of everything was pretty high. We were slightly shocked when we got the bill. But I have to tell you the food was well worth it. We've eaten at the downtown OTR Senate many times. One of the most entertaining evenings was way back in 2008 when they had the Mett Romney and the Brat Obama on the menu. They were keeping a tally on the wall as to which hot dog was favored by their clientele. The meal here at Blue Ash was wonderful as we had the Mussels, Poutine, and great hot dog. The service was wonderful and obviously we'll go back again. The one disappointment was the bill when I was charged for extra toast points that we were to dip into the sauce that came with the Mussels. That cost them a star. read more

We came here on opening night of this location and had a wonderful evening! We sat at the bar so that we could watch a Cavs game while enjoying the delicious food and drinks. The place has a good-sized bar and 3 large televisions, so this is will be our new go-to place to watch games. The service was warm and attentive at the bar. You felt that the staff genuinely enjoyed being there. The food was phenomenal--particularly the poutine. There are tons of pictures and reviews hailing the virtues of the poutine, and I have to agree. I have eaten many poutines in my life, even in Montreal and Quebec, and the one at Senate is by far my favorite. For me, the soft cheese curds make the dish. Other places tend to have hard, chewy ones. We also had the steak frites and the Lindsay Lohan, which were both good. This was my first time here but I had already planned what I wanted ahead of time and it didn't let me down. I got the Mexico City Dog and split an order of duck fat fries with my friend. There was a bunch of guacamole on the hot dog which I like but don't love so I scraped some up with the fries. Had to fork and knife the dog it was so big. The fries were very crispy and fluffy on the inside with the right amount of salt. The sauce that came with it was a nice salty pale reddish mayo based sauce that I loved. Then dessert. I got the pretzel beignets that came with caramel mascarpone and it was one of the best desserts I've had. I've been thinking about this thing still a day later. They basically taste like a syrupy pancake that was deep fried and then covered in ground up pretzel sticks and sugar. I went here for lunch during the week and had a great experience. I got the spuds makenzie hot dog, which has duck fat fries, cheese, sour cream, and chives on top and it was DELICIOUS. Cooked perfectly and served hot. I would definitely recommend it. I was worried just the hot dog wouldn't be enough food but it's a good lunch serving, so I wasn't still hungry when I left. The restaurant is nicely decorated and all the staff I interacted with were friendly and helpful. This is a good spot for a date night, and it has a big patio area for nice weather. So so good! I have nothing but good things to say about this restaurant. It's very unique. I highly recommend trying one of their hot dogs, they are delicious and definitely different. I had the hot dog of the day, not entirely sure what it was called though but it was tasty! So many different flavors. Their truffle fries with the sauce are also incredibly good. I've had those before and will always order them. The staff is so friendly and attentive. We had our small kids with us and they made sure to include them and be accommodating. Plus, I would drive to Chicago to get a great Chicago dog but luckily the Senate serves a great one. I get it every time even though their menu has many choices that I should try. I am a huge fan of Senate. I've been to the one in OTR several times and was thrilled to hear this one would be opening, closer to my home and without the parking annoyances that come with a trip downtown. First impression was good, the facility is beautiful and a bit more spacious than the OTR location. They were busy when we arrived around 5:45 on a Saturday evening, but there we still some seats available. We made our way to the hostess stand, where we decided we would rather sit outside to eat--partially because it was a gorgeous evening, and partially because it was FREEZING inside the restaurant. We were told the wait would be 30 minutes because they had some outdoor reservations they needed to accommodate first. This was completely fine by me, and I was even excited to learn they accepted reservations (since the location downtown does not). So I put in my name and number and headed outside to wait for the text message the hostess said I would receive. After about thirty minutes, we wandered back into the restaurant, assuming my phone would buzz with a text any minute. But it didn't and we kept waiting. And waiting, and waiting. Eventually I walked back up to the hostess to find out where we were in line, and initially she couldn't find me. When she finally did, she said she had me down for a 7:30pm reservation. It was only 6:30pm at this point in time. I tried to politely, but firmly explain that we had not put in a reservation and that we were told 45 minutes ago we would have a table in 30 minutes. She didn't really apologize for the mistake, but did have us seated outside immediately. Things got better from here. Since we had been waiting for so long, we had already grabbed a menu and decided what we wanted to eat. So when our (very friendly and helpful) waitress arrived to introduce herself, we ordered our hot dogs and fries right away. The speed with which they took, made and delivered our food was less than 10 minutes, maybe less than 5. I am not complaining, because we were SO hungry. Everything was hot, fresh and delicious, just as I expect from Senate. My husband and I wanted to try their dessert and had the waitress bring us back a menu to decide what we wanted. The waitress gave us some additional information on what the desserts were like, and strongly recommended the bread pudding. Because my husband is not a huge bread pudding fan, we opted for the pretzel crusted beignets. These came out in about ten minutes and were extremely hot. That's about where the good ends for me. The pretzel part of the dessert is literally just crushed up pretzels that the beignets re tossed around in instead of powdered sugar. The "caramel mascarpone" tastes like nothing. You can't taste the caramel and it's basically just a flavorless cream to dip your bland pretzel-y beignets in. I like Senate, but I hope their hosting staff can get their act together. Hot Dog Hot Dog Hot Diggity Dog- the Senate was the best hot dog I've had! It takes a lot for me to rave about an $11 hot Dog but the Trailer Park & the Lindsay Lohan lived up to hype. Piled high with toppings (see the menu pic for details) each bites leaves you wanting more, by the way, these are fork eating dogs, top much to lift up and eat. Also had the General Yao's chicken wings; crispy, well seasoned & saucy they were a great start to the meal. The Duck Fat Fries were disappointing, lacking any real flavor, barely dust from the fries that came on my daughters kids meal. Senate has a strong craft beer selection, actually their bourbon selection was just as impressive, and the bar service was excellent. I love how this place look inside! but right off the bat our experience was horrible... they set us directly in the sun and said "it will be going down in about 10 minutes" as if it wasn't going to be directly in my eyes for those 10 minutes. The food was honestly horrible. They only had american cheese with no substitution, no ranch or blue cheese for the wings, the server said we could get taziki instead which people do because they don't have normal wing dipping sauces then proceeded to come back and tell us they actually can't do that anymore. i wouldn't recommend coming here. read more

SO DELICIOUS. The duck fat fries are to die for. I had the Spuds Mackenzie and my hubby had the Croque Madame & we cut them in half and shared. The bun is fantastic, the dog scrumptious, and all the toppings are perfect together. My only complaint is that the poached egg wasn't gooey in the center. I really wanted to try one of the desserts, but we were just way too full. I really love that there is another option other than the OTR location. With a baby going down there, trying to park, and sitting squashed up next to other people would be way too much of a hassle. At this location there is PLENTY of parking, the tables are much farther apart - enough that we brought in the whole carseat/stroller combo. My senior fitness group chose Senate for our first group outing. Senate provided a curtained off private room for 15-20 of us. I enjoyed the menu selections but a there weren't enough bland options for some. I highly recommend Korean hot dog with beef short rib and Kim Chi. Plain wings appetizer was delicious too. Service was prompt and attentive. Server did not gripe and provided about a dozen or so separate checks with a smile. I had heard that Senate was a bit pricey but it's about average. Let's be clear, the food is typically amazing. Anyone can have an off day, but it is the manager's job to appropriately deal with a faux-pa. A couple month's back in July my friend ordered the steak. When he received it, his steak was badly prepared and inedible. Zero char, no rendering of fat, a cold block of compote butter on top, and an intense flavour of liquid smoke. He was only asked once how his food was once and he had barely touched it, so he had not yet formed an opinion. I noticed he hadn't touched his steak after everyone else completed their meal and we decided he had to say something. When the manager was approached, instead of dealing with the the problem professionally he made endless excuses for why the steak was fine, instead of accepting that the kitchen prepared it incorrectly. He treated my friend with contempt. Not only was he rude and argumentative, he didn't offer to comp the meal or offer him a replacement. He acted as if he had actually done something wrong! On a Sunday if you choose to eat at this wonderful restaurant be warned if there is an error with your meal the working manager may not know how to handle customer service and may treat you very unkindly. read more

I used to work around the corner from the OTR location and enjoyed getting carryout, but I mostly avoided going in for lunch because the space was overly loud and very tight. When I heard folks repeatedly raving about the Blue Ash location, I wanted to give Senate another try. My husband and I stopped for lunch yesterday. I was impressed by the comfortable, beautiful space. It was rainy, but the outdoor space overlooking Summit Park would be lovely on a warm evening. They have a nice, big bar with a good beer selection, as well. The space was overshadowed, though, by a sub par meal. My husband said his Spuds Mackenzie was just okay. The cheese sauce saved otherwise bland flavors. My Mexico City dog was absolutely gross. There was one piece of bacon buried under about 3 cups of guacamole. There was so much guac that I literally could not taste the bacon underneath or the sprinkle of queso fresco and tortilla chips on top. I couldn't even taste the hot dog itself! I tried scraping most of it off, but then I was left with just the hotdog and bun for $11. Very disappointing first visit. Maybe next time we come back for just fries and beer? read more
