Had to try to this icon of a restaurant. It's been a staple of the Cincinnati- Price Hill and surrounding areas since the early 1960's. We picked a busy Sunday afternoon and had a wait. But it was well worth it. The atmosphere is that of a family and neighborhood diner. Don't expect posh updated surroundings. Expect to be invited into a comfortable homey space -like that of walking into grandma's kitchen. The menu has everything from breakfast to dinner - and lots of variety. Although known (and named after famous Cincinnati style chili) they also have other hometown favorites such as goetta (look that up if you don't know!) We tried an appetizer of pretzels and beer cheese. They were Absolutely melt in your mouth delicious. The double decker was so huge it made for a couple of take home meals! The 5 way was good. I'm surprised I haven't reviewed P.H.C. Long time patron of this westside staple. Surly it has changed over the years from a small dive to a rather large restaurant. Specializing in Cincinnati style chili and breakfast foods makes this place the gem that it is. The other menu choices are equally good as well. My only complaint would be that they bread their wings. Who does that? Anyway I passed on those and had the Sams Salad at my last visit. Full bar and drinks in the lounge area makes it a great spot to watch the competing teams on tv. I recommend you try Price Hill Chili if you have not. The restaurant had a wait for lunch on Sunday which makes me think this is a popular place! The restaurant also has the bar attached to it to allow for a lot of seating room. The food was very filling, but we were disappointed in the appetizer, Spicy Spuds, as we were expecting potato skins with the description it listed but it came out as fried cone balls where we couldn't taste any potato. First time visit. We had about a 15-minute wait for lunch on a Saturday. Lots of empty tables so they must have been working through a staffing issue. Lots of TVs to watch the college football games. I'm not a fan of seeing a wide open dining room and then being told it will be 10-15 minutes to be seated, and then being seated at one of the empty tables I've been staring at for 15 minutes. Our waitress can best be described as "just doing her job" which is fine. We got our drinks, our food, and the couple of things we asked for. The food was good. There was a large group of people that came in right before us and I'm not sure if their big order affected ours, but it can best be described as "probably sat there a little long before being brought out". I ordered cheese fries, and I've never had fries brought out with just a big handful of shredded cheese on it. The fries weren't hot enough to melt the cheese, so every time you picked up a fry, the cheese would just fall off. That was the only issue with the food. I hosted 9 friends at Price Hill Chili last night, and discovered that the dining in experience here was even more enjoyable than getting their take-out. The hostess walked us through their many dining rooms, to arrive at Golden Fleece Lounge, their attached bar, where I assume they could best accommodate our larger group. Unfortunately, they couldn't seat us at one table, putting 6 of us at one table and 4 at another, and it had the noisiness of a bar setting, making conversation within our group difficult. However, the hospitality was amazing -- very proactive, friendly and engaging. Our group arrived 1 or 2 people at a time, and the waitresses were right on the spot with each arrival, immediately taking each person's drink order as they were settling in. We ordered an assortment of appetizers, which definitely seem to be one of Price Hill Chili's fortes. Each were ample, delicious and the epitome of comfort food, though the real "hits" among the group were Sam's Spicy Spudz, a type of jalapeno popper, and the fried pickle chips -- the taste of the pickle comes right through the hot crunchiness of the coating. The entrees were equally amazing, with kudos in particular to the goetta and cheese omelette, the clam chowder, the spinach salad with salmon, the Little Hippo ham-and-cheese double-decker -- and, actually, pretty much all of their double-decker sandwiches. These are plentiful -- and affordable -- helpings of hearty comfort food. And -- an added attraction -- on Friday nights they have live music, so we enjoyed acoustic versions of 60's rock classics from The Two Steves. We were visiting this area on Sunday morning and someone suggested Price Hill Chili. I wasn't aware of their menu or even the idea that they offered breakfast items. I decided on an order of buttermilk pancakes , no meat. They were a decent size and the flavor was very good. Not overly sweet, which was good. I started to order lunch items but I was hungry and I wanted breakfast food. Even for carry out, it was good. I can't vouch for the ambiance or service but my son in law didn't gripe about it. We arrived on a Wednesday right around 9 am. They open at 8 am and we figured we were there plenty early to not have to worry about finding a seat. Boy, were we wrong! The place was hopping! We found a table in the back of the room next to the bar. There seemed to be one person waiting on all the tables and we were concerned we wouldn't be noticed. It did take a while, but we completely understood why. We ordered coffee and by this time someone else had arrived to help out. The coffee came pretty quickly. Next we ordered and waited a little while longer. I didn't time it and I think that means that while it did take some time, it wasn't an extraordinarily long wait. I ordered corned beef hash with eggs over easy and fried potatoes, crispy. I also ordered a side of goetta. I'd seen pictures of the hash on Yelp, so I knew what to expect. It was a little more nondescript than I was hoping, but it was okay. I'll skip the corned beef hash next breakfast and just stick with the goetta, which was beautiful! It was a huge piece of goetta and it was cooked perfectly - good and crunchy. The potatoes, as requested, were also nice and crispy. We shared some appetizers (spinach artichoke dip, fried pickle slices, "spudz" which are potato/jalopeno poppers, Greek bread with marinara) All were really good. For my main meal, I had a bowl of clam chowder. a 4-way onion and a cod sandwich on tye. The 4 way was forgettable--odd for a chili parlor, but the cod sandwich was large and crispy and I really enjoyed it. We had some good conversation until the live music started just after 7, then conversation was almost impossible thereafter since we were in the same room as the band. But the music was mostly 60s and 70s favorites and that seemed to make up for it. Service was friendly and attentive. They have a pretty large menu with something for everyone. I would recommend the double deckers and appetizers. Prices are very reasonable here. This place is a big hit with the locals. And there are 4 different rooms, so it is bigger than it looks from the outside. Plus a bar, so to call it a chili parlor is almost an understatement. One of Price Hill's gems. read more

I was in town for a wedding and my dad said we HAD to come here before leaving town, as he used to be a Cincinnati native and grew up here. I don't like chili so the name was a bit off putting, but if you feel similar, don't fear! The menu selection is huge. We personally came here for breakfast, so I got French toast. The rest of the table got pancakes and an omelet, with goetta of course. First of all, the portions are HUGE. I was shocked! The food is also delicious. The pancakes were fluffy, the flavor on the French toast was exquisite, and the omelet was cooked perfectly. This place was spectacular, and a lot bigger than I expected it to be! Chili it's something that is very common even more so in Cincinnati as they do their own way of it here and oh how yummy it is! The chili that can be found in this city is unique as it seems like most of it is made from a base of cinnamon and chocolate so it gives this distinct flavor that you really can't find anywhere else in the county which is awesome because it's a cool unique thing to find in the area when your here. Coming here I already knew it was all about the chili so that's what I ordered I got the one that had beans in it so it added a bit more zest to something that was already unique and flavorful in it's own way I mean with a pile of cheese on top of it how can you go wrong! For a starter we ordered some fried pickles they were super yummy just the way they should be and came with a sauce that had a good zest to it with just a dunk of the pickle into it. This really felt like it was a locals place as there were a bunch of cops eating next to us and it just seemed like everyone here knew each other which was cool as it's always the places like this that an outsider wants to find. Overall yummy Chili and delicious fried pickles who knows if I'll make it back here again but it's definitely not out of the question as it had what was totally good for this given chili of a cold day! read more

Price Hill Chili is a great neighborhood chili spot. Over the past ten years I have visited on countless occasions. On my most recent visit, I went with a friend for lunch. I ordered a BLT sandwich and well done Greek fries. The sandwich had a nice amount of all of the toppings, so this is a sandwich I would order again. It had been so long since I had eaten their fries and they tasted heavenly! Ordering them well done resulted in crispy perfection. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. Soooo I am from the East Coast, where diners are a dime a dozen - but also, we have some of the best diners in the world. I have very high standards for a greasy, diner-style breakfast that is meant to soothe your hangover woes. Price Hill Chili scratched the itch, but honestly can't hold a candle to what we have over here on the east coast - so perhaps I have a bias. This place was up the block from our Air BnB, and we opted to call for takeout. The gentleman on the phone was pleasant enough and was able to accommodate our needs. As anyone from NJ would know, the classic BEC, SEC, and THEC (or PEC) are a clear cure for a hangover - it appears not so in the Midwest. Sure, there were omelettes and eggs your way, but the only breakfast sandwich available was The Mailman, which was your choice of egg, breakfast meat, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on an English muffin, rye, or wheat bread. No kaiser rolls or bagels to be found! Honestly, though, I can forgive that, and I don't want this review to be too much of a competition between East Coast and Midwestern breakfasts. (That's not the reason why I gave this restaurant only three stars.) I opted for a bacon, egg, and cheese Mailman on an English Muffin - hold the lettuce, tomato, and mayo, please. We also got another Mailman on rye, plus an order of French Toast, biscuits, and two sides of homefries. The food was ready quick enough, and we opened the bag to indulge. My Mailman sandwich was actually quite decent - it was loaded with perfectly crispy bacon, and did its job well. The other Mailman sandwich, from what I understand, was mighty fine too. The other items, however, left a lot to be desired. The French Toast was served dry - no powdered sugar, syrup, or butter at all, just battered and fried toast. It was the same issue with the biscuits - they were tasty, but dry - no butter, jam, or anything to put on the biscuits. Perhaps this was a mistake on Price Hill's part, or perhaps this is the way it is - but being that we were in an Air BnB, we had no condiments to help the situation, and we were hoping that the diner would provide breakfast necessities like butter and syrup with our order because that is how it's done in NJ. I think, though, the worst sin of all was the homefries - they were honestly the worst homefries I've ever tasted, and it's what truly knocked down my rating from four stars to three. They appeared to be sliced boiled potatoes - no salt or pepper, no crispy edges, no peppers or onions (again, maybe that's an East Coast thing, but still). They were just two Styrofoam boxes of steamed sliced potatoes. And again, being that we were in an Air BnB, we could not crisp them up in a pan because we did not have the materials to do so. We shouldn't have to do that anyway - homefries should, at the very least, be crispy and salted. I know this place is an area staple, and I would venture to give this another try - from the reviews, their chili seems to be excellent. Also, my friend's fiancé is a West Side native and absolutely loves this place. I would try this again the next time I am in the area, but as of right now, this was my breakfast experience as an East Coast Italian. read more

The food is served up quick and with a smile at this local chili parlor. While they're known for their chili, and beyond comparable breakfast, it's their wide variety of lunch and dinner options that is sure to please any palate. They have 6 rooms and a bar to serve parties large or small but the food is not small on flavor. Every dish (many made with a little bit of flair from their Greek heritage) is made fresh and to-order and I can't say I'd have anything I would not order again. As a Cincinnati west-sider, I've been here more times than I can count and would encourage anyone coming across this review to do the same and visit this small business. You can even purchase their famous Greek dressing to take home if you desire. My son said this was the BEST Cincinnati chili. We were surprised how big it was, and then at the debth of the menu. Everything looked good. I was amused neither of us got Chili in any form since that's what we came for. I had a roast beef sandwich with coleslaw on it. It so reminded me of a New Orleans poboy...just as messy! And delicious. My son had a bowl with tater tots, gotta, gravy, eggs. It was huge, and he polished it off in little time. Service was great, prices reasonable. Too bad it's not in my hood. It was my first time here and I heard the food was good. I went with a couple of friends and we had to wait a bit because it was busy! Parking was hard because it was super full. I got the corned beef hash and eggs, which also comes with home fries and toast for about $7! The price of everything was incredible for the big sized portions. The corned beef hash and home fries were a bit more wet than I usual expect it to be, but still pretty good. I expected crispy fries, but they were a bit soggy. However, everything was made well and tested good. The sandwich that we ordered was huge! It was stacked with meat and very much worth the price. This visit was recently part of a Cincinnati Chili mission I was on to try all of the best in the city. These guys are up toward the top of the list. Their building is HUGE. They have multiple dining areas and a really big bar. I sat at the bar and got great service. The menu is also huge with lots of other great offerings, but I was here for the chili. I ordered two chili cheese sandwiches and a coke. The chili was nice and flavorful and not too runny. The mustard and onions gave it a nice kick. I loved that they had their own hot sauce. I feel like after I finished visiting all of the parlors around the city, if they had coke instead of Pepsi and had their own hot sauce, they were top notch above the others. Just my observation. I dont get to this area often but I am definitely coming back to try some of their other food offerings. It all looked so good and the place was very comfortable. read more

I visited this restaurant for a meeting dinner. There was a lot of staff and made people feel welcomed. I ordered chicken gyro, no tomatoes and Greek fries with Dr pepper. Did not take long for us to get our drinks although we had a large group. The staff did well refilling until the meal came. My gyro came just with onions, no lettuce, and the pita bread was hard. The fries were cold so I requested they provide fresh, hot fries. The meal was just okay as a result of the sandwich not prepared as I requested and waiting on the fresh fries. Didn't want to send sandwich back too just because of the fear of people messing up order more. Got my receipt but the waitress grabbed cash and cards faster than I was able to get mine out. This place is/was the first stop after arriving at the CVG airport. We were told by family friends that this is much better than Skyline, so no doubt they drove us here to try it. From someone who has never been to Cincinnati, I must say that this whole chili creation is an amazing thing to take pride in, because I sure did enjoy my meal, especially here! Our server was SO nice and accommodating for us. She wiped down the largish round table for us, and her attitude was extremely positive during our entire dining experience. In fact, when she found out my friend & I were visiting from out of town (and were first timers), she gave us a small complimentary Greek desert at the end. So tasty! At the beginning, she gave us some popcorn to share around the table, and then someone ordered some spinach dip (it was just ok; chips were a little too salty in my opinion... and spinach dip was decent, not amazing). But, my friend & I split an order of the 5-way chili (great choice) as well as a Hipo sandwich which were both the perfect choices to start off our hunt for bomb food on our trip. Divey place with a solid menu. It was too early for chili the day I was there so I opted for a breakfast selection - I got the omelet with spinach, feta and mushrooms, home fries, rye toast, side of goetta. The omelet was fine, the egg was so thin as to be a crepe which I thought was great, but the ingredients inside were not warm, the feta was still as cold as the refrigerator. My favorite was the goetta (pronounced getta for all you non Cincinnati folk). Its a type of sausage specific to this area made of meat, oats and spices. Will definitely order this again. I honestly cannot believe I have never left a review for Price Hill Chili. This is a staple in my life as a west sider, quite honestly. My husband and I go here so often for breakfast and it's one of our favorite places to go even still. First of all, I have always loved the maze of this place. It's always fun to wonder what room you'll end up being seated in. None of which are bad. Fun fact, they have sports memorabilia and articles on the walls. One day I looked up and saw an article about the reds and the columnist had the same last name as my friend. I jokingly texted him a photo and asked if he knew the guy and his response was, "Yeah, that's my dad!" Price Hill Chili, bringing friendships together! The food isn't gourmet, but it's the delicious comfort food you crave in a place that feels like home. We love the Mailman sandwich and get that quite often. The Hangover Bowl is amazing, but you have to come very hungry for that. If I'm being honest most of what I've had here has been breakfast food, but the chili is good too! And I always love ordering a Bloody Mary or a mimosa with my breakfast. Service is also always friendly and familiar, even if you're being served by your waitress for the very first time, it just feels like you're a regular and they've waited on you a hundred times. Another thing I love about Price Hill Chili, which may not still be true because of e current pandemic, but they at least used to open at 6am and I would meet my husband there for breakfast sometimes. There was something really homey and soothing about being there at 6am drinking a cup of coffee and enjoying breakfast. I can't explain how wonderful this place is to me.
