This is a winner for my family. We are all picky eaters - especially the one complaining about us being picky eaters (specifically them). The poutine is huge and you can't get that and a meal. I have tried. Several times. It's a hot dog OR poutine. Not both. The hot dogs are a lot of fun, I usually get the Lindsey Lohan because I am also a train wreck. It's possible I don't even like it but my fidelity to the bit is essential. The service is always amazing. I am devastated that they are closing! This is one of the best spots in Blue Ash. They have such a nice atmosphere and decor at the park. Their food is amazing. I love the duck fat fries, hot dogs, poutine, poke bowl, etc.... I've heard the success of Mad Tree has taken from their business. The food at Mad Tree is just awful. Its nice to have a bit of a nicer option in the area. The only thing they were missing was a private dining area. Had lunch at Senate and I can say I was actually surprised. Last time I came I didn't think it was very good but this was pretty good. I got the Lindsay Lohan hot dog and it was way better than the Chicago Dog. Coming home from shopping in Cincinnati and we found this gem. It seemed unique so we wanted to try it. Very quiet late on a Saturday night. Inside is spacious. Casual yet classy. To start, we ordered the fried dumplings. They have a pork filling with a sweet chili and cream cheese drizzle. They were very good. Think crab rangoon but with pork. I ordered the Lindsay Lohan hot dog with goat cheese and onions based on the servers recommendation. It was very good. Very different from any toppings I've had on a hot dog. They do cut the hot dog in half to cook. I do wish they left them whole so you get the "snap" of a good hot dog. My husband ordered the chicken tikka hot wings. There are 6 to an order and they are a good size. The sauce was good but lacked a punch of flavor. As our side, we ordered the cheese curds. They were very good with a cheese pull that is very satisfying. Server was great. Kept our drinks filled and was happy to give recommendations. Overall, recommend giving them a try. I stumbled into this place with some work colleagues when we were working in the area. When we walked in the door, I had no idea what kind of food they served. The menu wasn't particularly large, but it had some really interesting choices. I'm not a big hot dog person, but there was a broad selection of very unique hot dogs. I've rated SENATE previously, but after going back yesterday I wanted to give an update since I tried completely different things. I dined outside, which was nicely kept & maintained, & the employees were pleasant. I very much enjoyed the chicken tikka grilled cheese (spiced chicken, white cheese, cilantro, & toasted sourdough - $16). The sauce was delicious & the bread was sturdy enough to not get soggy without being too hard. I also had the poutine (french fries, local cheese curds, braised short rib, & gravy - $17). Everything about these fries was perfect. They were seasoned well enough that you could eat them alone & be satisfied, but I'm glad we didn't because the extras were amazing. We were there on a very hot Saturday and needed to cool down in the A/C and have a refreshing dish. The tuna poke bowl was the perfect choice. We loved all of the ingredients and how they worked together. Thanks to our very cheerful and knowledgeable server, she brought a bigger bowl for us to dump the dish into so we could eat it without it falling out of the original bowl. Why, then, hasn't this been remedied if she keeps having to bring extra bowls to people? Also, we did have to ask for more sauce as there was not enough sauce on the bowl. And there could have been a bit more tuna so you could enjoy a morsel in every bite. The place has a cool vibe and an open kitchen. So basically this review is only about one dish, so take it with a grain of salt. We will return to try more of the menu because the service and atmosphere were great. My non-hotdog favorites to order at the Senate are: -Lobster Mac: buttery, cheesy perfection (every now and again they're stingy with the lobster but they're open to constructive criticism) -Poutine: Fries, gravy, cheese, braised short rib...what's not to love! It always comes out piping hot, the portion size is perfect for a group of 4. This time, I tried the Chicken Tikka Grilled Cheese for the first time. It was a solid 8/10! Any sandwich with sauce is going to get soggy. I'm a slow eater so it got a bit messy but the flavor was great! Also, the drinks were top tier. Quality of the food has gone down. Didn't understand their take on a lobster roll, it was on what looked and tasted to be a Kroger bun. The bacon was also flimsy. Hubs said his tikka wings were terrible. Worst $100 I've spent in awhile. The drinks were amazing though. To top it off...3% credit card fee and before you say...bring cash, absolutely no one thinks of going to the atm before dinner to avoid a fee, you don't even think of that. Lee's chicken on vine street has a 3% processing fee but I expect that from them. We will not be returning. read more

I really wanted to love this place. We came here for dinner on a Wednesday evening. Service wasn't bad, but the food was pretty disappointing. The lobster Mac and cheese had maybe 2-3 small pieces of lobster, it was basically just a Mac and cheese, but at least it was hot. Both hot dogs came out pretty cold from the fries on top to the hot dog inside. No one came over to ask how anything was, so we didn't bother mentioning it. I love where Senate is located, as this area has so much to do. We came when the Bengals were playing, and the restaurant was not very busy. As a table we shared the poutine, and everything about this dish was amazing!!! The short rib was tender and I loved the gravy and cheese sauce. I decided I had to try one of their famous hot dogs, although many of the sandwiches sounded delicious. Love the location. I had high hopes for this restaurant but was underwhelmed, possibly because I was looking for healthy food options. There are not many, to be honest. I ended up with "my wife's salad" and was disappointed. It was very red onion forward and the balsamic vinaigrette wasn't sweet enough to overcome the onion on the peppery arugula. Did not enjoy it at all sadly. My husband loved his truffle fries but described his burger as good beef patties on a soggy bun. We were underwhelmed and expected more based on reviews. We enjoyed a cheeseburger, truffle fries and a loaded hot dog. All delicious! The relish on the hot dog was homemade, I never had fresh relish before! I can't give enough kudos to Ian and our server for the attention they gave us and our 2 & 4 year old granddaughters. Everyone was hangry & hot. Dined here with girlfriends recently. Our service was spectacular and food came out quickly. I loved my Lindsay Lohan hot dog, no bun. A friend loved it with the bun. I shared the beet salad- amazing! They offer a great cocktail list and the bartender even made a mocktail when I asked if they had any as they are not offered on the menu. The Sazarac cocktail was very good, not too sweet. RRR life his Havana Good Time, but a bit sweet. Wow, the mussels!!! (We split these.) Do not miss these if you like mussels. There is a real chef at work here. Seriously, they should include a spoon for the creamy broth, although I appreciate the cocktail forks for the mussels. We got extra bread for the broth, so glad. Where do I begin.... First off I've never dined in at the senate and heard nothing but good things since they first opened up their location at the Over the Rhine location a decade ago. My friend at work just recently dined here a month ago and raves about this place. He's been bugging me and My Mr. to go and finally we met up for lunch on a Saturday. Their menu is super simple but yet it's hard to choose what to get even though they specialize in hot dogs. And I'm talking unique and gourmet hot dogs. My lady and I have been wanting to try the hot dogs here for quite sone time. I'd heard people rave about them all the time, and after my own experience here, I'd say the raving is certainly warranted and THEN some. The food was epic and the service was too. My lady and I were meeting with two friends for lunch and we got there first. The very friendly hostess sat us right away as we waited for our friends. The place itself isn't huge but has a very relaxed atmosphere. The menu isn't overwhelming and has a nice diversity. Betty, our server, was absolutely awesome. She had such a positive and welcoming energy. We told her it was our first time there and she took the time to tell us all about the place and the menu. We started with a couple drinks and an order of poutine. Around that time, our friends had arrived too, so Betty took care of them too. They ordered drink and poutine as well. How was the poutine, you ask? Possibly the best we've ever had. I definitely recommend getting the poached egg of top because it adds a unique richness to the dish. It's pretty much a meal in itself. After savoring ann that goodness, we ordered our main courses. My lady ordered the Chicago dog, I got the Lindsey Lohan, and our friends got the Trailer Park dog and the garlic parmesan wings. The hog dogs were HUGE and loaded with delicious toppings. Mine had a great mixture of sweet, salty, and savory flavors and every element was extremely well-balanced. After a bit, we decided to split one more hot dog just so we could experience more of the place. We split the Spuds MacKenzie, and it was phenomenal. I called it a super deluxe dog. While we were enjoying everything, the manager, Merideth, came up and talked to us for a bit. She was super friendly and thanked us for coming. We made a suggestion of possibly doing half hot dogs or smaller "slider" hot dogs so people could try more of a variety. She liked the idea so we're hoping they could turn that into to a sort of hot dog flight (I suggested making it three different dogs and calling it a "Three Dog Night"). To finish this amazing meal, we all decided to split the bread pudding, which made for an awesome finish to our meal. Everything about this experience was totally five stars. The food was epic, the service was beyond top notch, and we really loved the overall vibe of the place (it's not often that I hear a restaurant play Belle & Sebastian). The poutine fries were good but 1/2 bites ended up on the saltier end-- and the salt was not cut by any of the other ingredients. We were practically full by the time we finished it and had forgotten that we still had our lunch to eat! For lunch I ordered the Hawaiian Tuna Poké bowl. This is also large enough for two people. Senate is a cool concept IF you like hotdogs and fries. My friend wanted to try their Poutine week offerings, so we went in today. The one they had today was a Chicken Pot pie poutine. Poutine is a whole dish predominantly made of meat, fries and cheese. Honestly, I've not had a legit traditional Chicken Pot pie, so I'm not sure how close this one was to inculcate those flavors. I have to admit, the gourmet hotdog thing is pretty good! I had the K-Pop, wings and truffle fries. It sounds like a lot of food, but I was hungry because I skipped lunch. The flavors of the kimchi worked well with the meat of the short rib and the hotdog. There was enough juice to moisten the bun, without it being soaked and falling apart. (it's not like you're gonna pick the thing up and eat it though.... fork and a knife kind of meal here). My dinner cost me $34.50 before tipping. What was the first place I headed upon landing back in CINCINNATI? Of course! Sat at the bar (4/16) right around lunch... awesome service, perfect drink - there's something special about their tonic water- and every bite was perfection!
