I did just that, nice night for a walk and visiting the area so of course after my walk in the park I pop up YELP to look for some recommendations..and there is Senate. Now as much as that name just pisses me off (this day and age of politics) they had beer and a good rating on YELP. Very good choice, thank you to those who have reviewed. I wanted to have something light so ordered a local beer and tried the Mussels with a side of Truffle Fries! Now, I am just a month off of having the BEST mussels ever in Portland Maine...so I had that in my brain as I waited and drank my beer...well, this was a perfect follow up! Came with some delicious bread for dipping and if not for my social graces I would have used a straw to get all the sauce from the bottom of the bowl...I mean, it was very good! This was just as I remembered. I got one of my old favorites, poutine. I ended up getting it to go because my kids wanted to play at the park. I walked in to get a to go order and the service was pretty fast. I would say the kid's meals are extremely over priced ($12 for a grilled cheese and fries). Came here for the first time in years, and it didn't seem as good as when I left. Definitely doesn't match up to the old OTR location. Got the Guaca-saurus Rex, and found the guac to be uninspiring. Though it was somewhat salvaged by the chipotle crema, which was fire. Fries were nicely crisped, but undersalted. Wish I'd had more of the crema for dipping purposes, as I ran out quickly. Also, as an FYI, the prices are higher in person than on the website. Dined at Senate last night. They were closing early for Halloween and I arrived just a few minutes before. I was warmly welcomed, promptly served and had delightful conversation with the bartender. He recommended several menu items of which I chose the delicious Gyro. It was delicious!! Restaurant was full of young, energetic staff and atmosphere was very pleasant. I've always wanted to try the hot dogs at Senate and this weekend I got my chance. An event had us not too far from Blue Ash so we headed to Senate's Summit Park location. The weather was fine and we picked a shady spot outside. My husband and I both opted for the Mexico City dog. This all beef hotdog came with applewood bacon, guacamole, chipotle crema, queso fresco and tortilla strips. My husband braved eating it with his hands but I had to use a fork and knife. It was REALLY good. I paired mine with one of the many draft beers available (50 West's Model Tea) and we shared an order of perfectly cooked truffle fries that came with a delectable harissa aioli. I enjoyed my visit but it's important to note that these are upscale hot dogs and the prices reflect that. read more

Probably like many people not currently living in Cincinnati, I was first attracted to the Senate restaurants by seeing the profile on the Food Channel. My wife could not figure out why I would want to go to a place that highlighted the hot dogs that they serve so I went when she was i on t of town. I will be happy to report to her that there a lot of things on the menu that she would like that are not hot dogs. I was here in the middle of the afternoon so it was pretty quiet, and I got served very quickly. I can say that I really liked the location (new building on the edge of the Summit Park), the building (looks like part of the developers' plans to make an integrated part of the park and fits in well with the other businesses; also has outdoor seating), the menu (more than hot dogs!), and the service. I ended up having the Korean dog (very tasty), fried pot stickers, and a beer (on tap; very nice NE-style IPA). My only real disappointment was that fried do not come on the side with the hot dog, I assume that this is because they are "gourmet" fries (e.g. duck fat fries) and they can charge a fair amount for those. From a consumer's perspective I would rather get fries on the side as part of the meal, but be allowed to pay a little more to upgrade. In any case, I ordered and ate the hot dog first because I was not getting the fried and was not sure how filling it would be. Thus, I essentially had the pot stickers as dessert. I would recommend this place to friends and family with the caveat re: fries above and that it might be hard to get out of this place on less than $20-30 per person. Everything that you order is about $10 on average. And be careful about your bar tab. The beer selection was nice but like so many places these days, it's about $7 per beer. Can't tell you about the cost of the other drinks though. Go check this out. I am sure that I will do my best to convince my wife to experience with me in the future. read more

I like the ambiance and look of this restaurant. It's modern and open and bright. Ok a Friday around 7:30 there was no wait which was nice. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I'm giving it a 3 because the food is not all that great. Each dish comes with no size and is kind of small. There's also no theme to this restaurant. There's steak, but also muscles. There's gyros but also burgers. And there were only two desserts in the menu. They did have a big drink selection though. I brought a few friends here on a short Cincy day trip/foodie tour. I can't visit Cincinnati without stopping here for their poutine. More than just a specialty hot dog place! Honestly, I rarely order any of the hot dogs whenever I visit either this or the OTR location. If you read nothing else, order the mussels, and extra bread from the get go, to sop up that amazing broth. Maybe even just order the broth and the bread, it's that good. For this visit, we came in mid-afternoon on a sunny day. We wanted to be seated outside, but were told there were no more tables available. I pointed out three that were, clearly, available. They said, yeah .. that means we would have to open that up so .. you can either wait or just sit inside. I still don't really know what that meant. I was slightly peeved but even more hungry, so decided to just sit inside. The west coast oysters were crisp and fresh. I never know why I order the potstickers. There are only three to an order IIRC, and they're nothing to write home about. The wings were above average. My friend ordered the gyro. It didn't look that appetizing to me personally, but he said he enjoyed it. We split a wedge, which a single order is massive, and they kindly pre-split it for us prior to serving. Very delicious with extra chunks of bacon. I always feel bad coming here because I know it's the "gourmet hot dog place" and I never order one. The Lindsay Lohan was .. forgettable, and made me remember why I stay away from the dogs in the first place. It's an overpriced hot dog. I think all of them are. I get it, that's their thing, and some people like that, but it's not for me. They have so many better options here. I remember enjoying the burger and the Nashville Hot on other visits. The hot dogs though? Not very memorable. It's a little gimmicky and I feel mean saying that because I'm sure a lot of thought goes into preparing each with their specific ingredients. Mine however was so stuffed that the bun, which honestly just looked like a piece of white bread, ripped on me before my first bite. It was a mess. Dropped all over my plate and I ended up eating it like a salad. A hot dog salad. Take that for what it's worth. That said, Senate is a fantastic option here in Blue Ash. Especially for outdoor seating .. if they let you sit there? The food is smart but not intimidating. The vibes inside and out are relaxed and fun. The staff is polite and prompt. Solid draft list. Excellent experience here for an early Sunday lunch! We were on our way back home to Columbus from a weekend in Cincinnati and decided to pull off the freeway to check this place out. Sooo glad we did! First off, our server was the best!! Kayla I think her name was? She was sooo sweet, always checking in, and just so pleasant. The food was outstanding! We ordered the mussels, duck fat fries and the Bourbon chocolate bread pudding. All delicious! We were having a tough time deciding what to eat because everything on the menu sounded awesome. And even the Poutine was amazing. But the hot dogs (the item that they are known for) were not impressive. The average cost of a hotdog was $11, I can see paying $9 for the size of it... however, it was completely lacking in flavor. (Hotdogs tried spuds McKenzie, Mexico City). The guacamole on the Mexico City hotdog that I had today on December 15, 2018 was incredibly under ripe. The location is convenient if you're down downtown. Perfect spot to grab lunch or dinner if you're driving by Blue Ash or Sharon Woods. There's a park that is nice so if you want to take your order to go and have a picnic, you can easily do that! We opted to sit inside (they have outdoor seating with full service and a bar too). The hot dogs are a good size in case you're wondering if this can really fill you up for dinner. I went with the Croque Madame (I think that was the name... it's French and it has a runny egg on top!). Husband went for the Lindsay Lohan. We each got a side: lobster Mac n cheese and duck fat fries. The fries are hot and delicious and come with aioli. Seasoned well. The Mac n cheese needed some salt and sadly there are no salt and pepper shakers on the table. You do get chunks of lobster so that is nice since it costs a pretty penny. Our hot dogs came out next and they didn't disappoint. I opted to eat mine with a knife and fork while the hubby went sans utensils. Both dogs were delicious and I particularly enjoyed the satisfaction of my "yolk porn" moment where I cracked runny egg on top of my hot dog; slopping up the runny egg with my brioche hot dog bun was a bonus!) If hot dogs aren't your thing and you prefer something else, they also have a burger (their version of a Big Mac), salads, and other food options. They have donuts and shakes as well. I mean, this place is fun and the food is decadent. Service is great with a friendly staff. There is ample parking for this location in Blue Ash, but it can get crowded during peak hours (weekend dinner time). Not impossible to park but can take a few loops. read more

This is a great place to dine. My mom and I were in town and based on reviews thought we would try it. This is one of the best!!! We both had the Chicago hot dog and some fries (cooked in duck oil)and the taste of both is to die for Very flavorful. To top it off had the bread pudding in bourbon sauce. That was spectacular. Senate is apart of my top five favorite places to eat in Cincinnati! I am so happy that they made it through the pandemic and were able to reopen, I was very concerned with the announcement of having to close all the restaurants. We went opening weekend again because it had been so long since we'd had our fix. Trailer Park was ON. POINT. per usual (hot dog, bacon, cheese, coleslaw and grippos on top!!) The duck fat fries are still top tier as well. Another favorite is the Korean. The short rib is a great topper. The service is great always, the atmosphere is laid back and fun. The ribeye was about a half inch thick and served room temperature, with a bunch of grizzle and overcooked. The fries didn't arrive until we reminded our server. They were hot and decent. I was much impressed with all aspects of this family eatery. The menu is original and causes your mouth to water. We had brunch - when I saw that goetta was offered. I had to ordered it. The goetta was served on a bun with lettuce, onion and tomato and deli mustard. It was awesome. Background on goetta, it's true German - American delicacy. Only in Cincinnati and northern Kentucky offer this. I am fortunate to live in Dayton Ohio where Kroger's carries goetta. This was my second visit to Senate in Blue Ash, the first for my family. The kids actually agreed that this was a good choice after reviewing the menu in advance. I appreciate the vote in confidence from the kids, but I already knew they would be happy. I started with a Vandermill Totally Roasted apple pecan cider and an IPA for the hubby. I was very happy with the refreshing cider. We shared an order of poutine for the table. I'm glad that everyone wanted to eat it because I could have easily inhaled the whole thing myself, but would have felt disgusted with myself later on. I feel like you need an extra carb or starch to have to clean up the gravy and left over goodness. I felt like handing over the plate with short rib and gravy was like I had sinned. When we order, dessert always has to be considered. If you want to partake in the desserts, then you better keep that in mind when ordering because the servings are generous to say the least. Kids hot dog is a full size dog. There is no skimping on this. WHOLY COW! Kid #2 order the Croque Madame and she could not have been happier. We did have to take 1/3 of it home because it is a huge serving, just like everything else. Kid #1 ordered the crispy pot stickers and she cleaned her plate. Hubby and I shared the General Tso's chicken wings and they were finger licking delicious. Did we save room for dessert? Heck yeah! We ordered a salted carmel frosty, bread pudding and beignets. Favorite flavor was the bread pudding. The frosty was a much nicer version of what the fast food place serves. The beignets were very crusty and covered in sugar with a delicious mascarpone on the side. Parking and location are awesome. You aren't having to find a paid parking lot downtown.
