I am by no means a BBQ connoisseur.. if anything I really don't care for American style bbq... BUT I do enjoy city BBQ and that's for several reasons. I like the fact that their options are quite affordable.. especially given the times. They also had a nice variety of items. They have all kinds of BBQ sauce you can choose from which is fantastic. Here is a pro tip, anytime you look at a "bbq restaurant" and see their sauce features high fructose corn syrup, you can almost guarantee it's gonna be a bad time. That was on me, I should have known better. Very very surprised at the quality of food I received from here. The brisket was so beyond dry I can't believe they served it. Whoever was placing the meat into the wrapper knew better, but definitely didn't care. This has not been my first terrible experience here either. Haven't been back in years and I won't be again. We swung by on a road trip. It was fairly busy with what looked like the after church crowd. Fast service and food delivery. Friendly staff. Brisket, pulled pork and chicken tenders were delicious. The portions for the prices were good. My teenage son liked the Mac and cheese. All the french fries were soggy. Cheese product sauce on the loaded fries was disappointing when the menu said it was cheddar, but the bacon chunks were yummy. None of us liked the fries. The multiple sauce choices were good. Everyone in my family was able to find something they liked. The salad had lots of wilted and brown pieces in it. Clean dinning room and bathrooms. I had city barbecue catered at an event I attended last weekend, and it was delicious. In the past week, I have been craving it, so I scoped out a location near me. My mother and I stopped by on a late Sunday afternoon--and I could tell the place had been busy. We purchased the family pack that fed two adults and two kids. Honestly, it was a lot of food for us two adults, as we took home leftovers and had enough for at least one to two meals after. It was a bit expensive, but it is very difficult to eat out for less than 40 bucks for two people nowadays. Our bill was $38. We originally were going to get two sandwiches, but we found out that this family deal included cornbread, whereas we would have had to add that as an additional cost. Since it was our first time, we got a five dollar coupon off $30 for a to-go order--which gave us our peach cobbler free. Worth it!! I definitely would give the food 4 to 4.5 stars, but we were really bummed that the restaurant did not allow dogs. There was a patio attached to the restaurant with outside seating plus an additional outdoor seating with picnic tables near the parking lot. We were going to sit out at the picnic tables away from the restaurant, and we were told that this restaurant was not dog friendly. My mom asked a man who was working inside, and that is what he told us. We were bummed! We would have loved to stick around and enjoy the ambience of the restaurant, but due to that, we ended up getting our food to go and had a picnic at the park nearby. Overall cleanliness was okay--but to be honest, you could tell the bathrooms were not taken care of recently, as the toilet paper or paper towels had not been refilled--they were just lying in the stalls and on top of the paper towel rack. The area around the self-serve barbecue and drinks station were a little dirty, and there were no lids left for the sauce. I could tell it had been a busy day. There were no workers who were actively out in the restaurant, and the same girl who was packing all the food and taking orders was also running food to the people sitting down at the restaurant. You could just tell they needed an extra person helping clean up and take care of people. Overall great food and okay price but bummed about the no pet-friendly status. read more

My family wanted BBQ so we stopped into City Barbeque on a Wednesday afternoon for an early dinner and weren't disappointed. I was visiting Cincinnati from Texas where BBQ is a food group on its own and was impressed with my experience at City Barbeque. The cashier was friendly and patient with our group as we looked over the menu. I ordered the Pick Two meats platter, I chose ribs and brisket that came with two sides, collards and corn pudding, plus cornbread. I enjoyed the Brush Fire bbq sauce which had a great kick to it and went really well with the smokiness of the meats. The meats were nicely cooked, the 3 ribs were a decent size but not real meaty. The brisket wasn't fatty at all, nicely smoky and tender. The collards were pretty darn good for North of the Mason Dixon Line, not mushy at all, with a nice tanginess to them, perfect to dunk cornbread into. The corn pudding was slightly sweet with kernels of corn and cornbread, I'd eat corn pudding for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I could. The cornbread had a nice deep corn flavor and crumbled like good cornbread does. My Pick Two plate at City Barbeque was definitely worth it in my opinion and would be strong competition for some Southern BBQ places I've eaten at. read more

I'm in the army and have to fly to the area once a month from Colorado Springs, and I stopped here for dinner, I got their two meat plate with two sides for 14.99. chose the brisket and ribs. The guy that took my order didn't tell me that it would be $3 more for each of what I chose, when he told me it would be 22.63 I was shocked. Portions were not big for this choice. I would've thought since a $6 uncharge was applied the portions would have been bigger. But I was wrong. The flavor wasn't bad. The brisket was a little dry. I was hungry so I just ate it. Probably won't revisit. I don't know the area so I guess I'll try the other local restaurants next time I visit. This City Barbecue location has been a staple for family gatherings for us for over a decade and it never disappoints. We typically get the Judge's Sampler with upgraded sides and it easily feeds our family of four, which is a great value. We sometimes order in advance but it's not a very long wait to order through the line, even when they are busy (well staffed). One of my favorite places to get barbecue. I went there to get my favorite smoked turkey sandwich. It was totally delicious and a very healthy portion. The service was fast and friendly. They have a great menu with ribs of course. Brisket which is a very good choice as well that my family loves. The lady, Lisa, at the register was friendly and made a new suggestion of frech dip. Stopped in on Friday 2-2-24 at 5 pm, the place was congested with people, great selection of sides impressed the greens were not mushy, but when served disappointingly not hot and quick cooled to cold like all four sides. Mac n cheese was bland, Cole slaw was not impressive either and did not eat the potato salad. Cannot remember the order but it had enough for 3-4 people and was not hot either. Sauces were cool half Brush Fire with half city barbecue house sauce. The chicken was cooked perfectly as it was still moist inside and thoroughly cooked. Several years ago, my wife and I had tasted City Barbeque's brisket, which cemented a spot in our hearts for it. During those years, whenever we had a craving for good barbeque, we would go to City Barbeque and get our fix. In recent years, we had noticed a decline in quality, which came to a "Straw that broke the camel's back" moment. My wife ordered 2 pounds of brisket, one pound of chicken, barbeque sauce and sandwich buns. When she arrived home, we were shocked and severely disappointed by what we had received. The pound of chicken we had gotten, wasn't grilled or barbequed. In fact, the chicken looked/tasted processed, as if they had scooped it out of the can and into the plastic tub, with a tiny sprinkle of black pepper. I had even tried using the barbeque sauce on it to make it more palatable. It didn't work. The brisket was a fatty, flavorless mess with no smoke flavor whatsoever. I'm not sure what was done, but it tasted like an unseasoned pot roast. Needless to say, our love affair with City Barbeque has ended, as the quality and care are no longer present. We wasted almost 70 bucks on this awful food. Please don't make the mistake we did. Support restaurants/businesses who genuinely care about what they serve. City Barbeque, does not. read more

I really do enjoy city bbq, and I am partial to this location. I tried the turkey taco, which was bland. I later saw that the verde sauce was in the bag. I didn't ask for my food to be deconstructed. Same with my Nashville hot sandwich. A teaspoon of coleslaw was on the side. I like this sandwich but I don't like cold food. Every time I have ordered it, it has been cold. Called in the City Barbecue to ask them to place an order for us. There is nobody in the parking or restaurant. It is pouring outside. I asked if we could call in our order to go and they could bring it out to us at curbside pick up. They told us it would be 20 minutes but if we walked in right away, we could place our order and leave. They refuse to come out so one of us had to walk in and get the order. We are seniors and that isn't so easy for us. We don't appreciate the lack of service at that restaurant when the young woman easily could have delivered it to curbside. Nice place overall. We came here on a food-cation through Ohio and this is our first stop. Loved the pickle ball chicken sandwich ( I believe it was called) it was a fried chicken sandwich with aioli. I would give that a 4.5 by its self. However all of the sides we chose ( cornbread, mac n cheese, hush puppies) including the banana pudding for dessert, all get 3.0-3.5. The food was done very fast. It's not a bad spot. read more

Just checked out The Motherload for a Sunday dinner and it's definitely just that. A sampler of all the meats that City BBQ has to offer and enough for 3-4 heavy eaters or 6 lighter ones. The sides are small so be aware if you have several people that you may need to order up, but for the purpose of the meal it's a decent value. read more

City Barbecue can be good, but just as often, there's subpar food preparation. Especially if you have it delivered, the food quality is really spotty. I've had fatty and/or dry brisket and just ordered the smoked breast/wing chicken for the second time. Both times the chicken looked beautiful outside, with a golden skin, but was over-brined and mealy and mushy. I could literally press into the chicken with my finger and it would indent and stay that way. I would not recommend ever getting the chicken. Inedible. This last delivery, the green beans had zero flavor, tasting as if they were just boiled in plain water. Sometimes that's happened, while other times the green beans are seasoned well from bacon, onion and pepper. My other side, the corn pudding, tasted old. I wish their food quality was consistent and reliable. It's a shame, because when it's well prepared, it's delicious. read more

One, different types of BBQ sauce and City has a good selection for your preference. Plus the BBQ must be cooked slow and maintain its flavor and moisture. This was another plus for City. However, they did have the negative on my visit. This was around 11:30am lunch time. The sauce on the table was fresh out of the fridge. So when put sauce on my BBQ pork it just made it cold very quick. Then as I ate the sandwich the bun fell apart. Pretty darn good place! Was in town for business, and happened upon this spot a few blocks from my hotel. Expect to walk in and order your food, then find a spot to park and enjoy your food! Service was excellent; everyone was attentive and polite, A+ all around! We figured we'd try The Motherload, which is probably most of what's on their menu. The brisket was surprisingly good this far out of Texas; the sausage was hearty; the pulled pork tender; the sides were good (I only tried the mac and cheese and the corn).
