Bald White Guy Reviews - First Review! MISSION BBQ - Mason, OH Rating: ‍‍‍‍ (4 out of 5 Bald Heads) Had to run an errand today and decided to meet up with my University of Cincinnati student son for a quick lunch. He suggested Mission BBQ in Mason. I'd never been, so while waiting on my lunch guest, I did what any modern diner does--scoped out the menu online www.mission-bbq.com. Brisket, pulled meats, fries, and all the fixin's. Sweet tea, lemonade, and a soda lineup that could make a gas station jealous. Pulling into the lot, the first thing I noticed--besides the fact that my stomach was already growling--was the smell of the smoker drifting through the air like a meaty siren song. The exterior was spotless, and the military/first responder theme was clear before I even walked in. Inside, it's a tribute wall of service--military photos, law enforcement, fire, and EMS patches (I'm guessing donated by patrons). As a first responder myself, I appreciated the respect baked into the atmosphere. Pro tip for first-timers: You order at the counter, grab your own drink, and find a seat. When your food's ready, they call your name and bring it to you. Simple, efficient, and no awkward "who's my server?" moments. I went with the pulled pork sandwich, fresh-cut fries, and a sweet tea. The pork? Tender, smoky, and full of that slow-cooked depth that makes you want to close your eyes for a second bite. The fries? Fresh Cut, Golden, crispy on the outside, fluffy inside--basically the potato equivalent of a standing ovation. On the table: a BBQ sauce tour of America--Texas Twang, Smoky Mountain, Memphis Belle, KC Classic, South Carolina Zing, and my personal favorite, Tupelo Honey Heat (sweet, spicy, and just dangerous enough to keep you coming back). Bonus points for the vinegar bottle--perfect for fries, just like the county fair. Mid-meal, an employee came around offering samples of their corn casserole. I'm not saying it changed my life, but I wouldn't turn it down if it showed up at my table again. The verdict: $34 for two lunches. The frugal side of me thinks that's a bit steep for a quick bite, but let's be honest--everywhere's pricey these days. The food was solid, the atmosphere was genuine, and the service was warm. Mission accomplished. I will go back for sure. If you in the area it is worth the stop! First Responders - Take a uniform patch from your department to add to the wall! Final score: 4 Bald Heads. Not 5--because my wallet still remembers.

This isn't sliced brisket!! Not sure what is was. Not a great flavor

Well, I travel almost every week and I'm looking for BBQ across the country. This place had 4.5 stars but I don't understand why. Seems as if everything is made in the oven. Rib meat fell off the bone but they didn't look very appealing and tasted about the same. Brisket was blaaa. No smoke ring, turkey was good Water was good All in all. I won't be back

The staff is super friendly. They are very first responder friendly. The brisket was amazing and the corn bread to die for. Highly recommend!

It is exactly what you want if you're craving good barbecue. Levels above other known chain places and it's an easy 9.3 out of 10. That's a really high score and this places is definitely deserving of it. Service was also exceptional.

This time around my review has changed to 5 stars . All the employees were very pleasant from the moment I walked in until the moment I left . I got the chopped brisked sandwich combo w/ 2 sides and a drink. I added on a extra size . This was a tad pricey for one person but oh so delicious . All my sides were phenomenal - Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. Green beans had a great bacon and onion flavor , the mashed potatoes you could tell were freshly made and they had good flavor. The brisket was juicy and delicious. I will be back !

Go right before noon to experience max patriotism! Everyday at noon, Mission BBQ pauses and all staff and guests sing the national anthem. I got the brisket meat combo with a side of coleslaw. The brisket itself was okay; even though I requested a fattier cut, the meat itself was a little lean and dry. Big fan of all the different sauces available! I like to try a different sauce with each bite, so it's more fun to eat at the restaurant itself.

Food: 4.5/5 This place is a great lunch spot but also is open late so that you can get BBQ for dinner. We got the sampler platter with moist brisket and jalapeno cheddar sausage, the brisket sandwich, two sides of mac n' cheese, and rountain drinks. The sampler platter allows you to select two or three meats to try and is served with cornbread. I can not say enough good things about the moist brisket. It is flavorful and tender. The brisket sandwich also comes with an option for moist brisket. They have tea and lemonade fountain drink options for Arnold Palmer if you like that flavor. Finally, they have eight different sauces to pick which speaks to you. Service: 5/5 It's a bistro-style restaurant, so you order at the counter and take a seat. Everyone is friendly, and they always have someone on the floor to check in if you need anything. They employ veterans, and everyone always has a smile on their face. It seems like the people like working there and take the job seriously. Atmosphere: 5/5 It is themed to honor veterans and is well-decorated. The space is practical with a fun twist. Everything is always super clean. They have an open kitchen, so you can see them assemble the plates, and sometimes you can see them smoking things outside.

I've eaten my way through every smokehouse in Cincinnati, so when I say Midwest Best BBQ is the real deal, believe me. My arteries are practically Yelp-certified. The team of servers and cooks seems like they recruited an entire football team of young men from the University of Cincinnati; service so fast you'd think they were running a two-minute drill, attentive enough to make your mom jealous, and coordinated like they're protecting the quarterback only this time, the quarterback is your pulled-pork sandwich. Their wings, rubs, and sauces? Every single flavor profile was so good I nearly proposed to the coleslaw. And don't get me started on the G-Funk wings. They're delightful, though naming wings after a rap genre means you half expect Dr. Dre to hand you wet wipes. And let's talk about the smoking schedule. They've got a night smoker and a day smoker, which sounds less like a BBQ setup and more like a buddy-cop movie: "Day Smoker plays by the rules, Night Smoker breaks 'em, but together they deliver justice... in the form of brisket." Mark, one of the owners, literally smokes meat during a half-day shift with the love and passion of a Michelin-star chef who moonlights as Cupid. This guy makes ribs like he's serenading them. If Hallmark made a "Brisket Romance" channel, Mark would star in every single movie. I bought several pounds of meat to take home. Not "a pound." Several. Because nothing says "self-control" like hiding a bag of smoked chicken behind your kale in the fridge. Exclamation point. Period. Now, location... ...here's the kicker. They're hidden off the road over a hundred yards. That's right, it's the Area 51 of BBQ. You basically need Google Maps, a Sherpa, and divine intervention to find them. Yet, somehow, when you do, it feels like stumbling upon the Ark of the Covenant... ...only tastier, and fewer Nazis melting. Inside? Casual. TVs locked on Bengals or Reds games, so you can watch disappointment while you eat happiness. Patio? Shaded. Perfect for when you want to sweat from the hot sauce, not the sun. The sides? Top echelon. Beans, slaw, cornbread, each one a little sidekick to the main meat superhero. And for the low-carb crowd, this place is a protein paradise. Keto bros rejoice: you can bench-press your brisket guilt-free. Bottom line: Midwest Best BBQ doesn't just feed you, it baptizes you in smoke, sauce, and joy. And if you're not leaving with meat sweats, did you even go?

I got the Coca-Cola Short Ribs and they were so good. The mashed potatoes were creamy and the short rib fell apart like butter. My friends each got a sandwich and they loved them. We ended the meal with dessert, their bread pudding and chocolate lava cake. They were both delicious, and the cake was nice and warm. Our server told us that the lava cake is supposed to come with ice cream and they ran out, so she took it off our bill which was very nice. While the service was very kind and welcoming, it was a little slow. Our server took a while to come to the table in the beginning and was somewhat absent during the dining experience. (These are way different than other pics from earlier reviews) Really neat selection of house drinks (adult beverages) wide selection of Bourbons, whiskey and tequila. My wife got the Berry Naughty, (see menu pic for description) Evan waited on us. I ordered the Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich, Hickory-smoked pulled pork + Tangy Carolina gold BBQ sauce + Southern slaw + House pickles + Cowboy Crack Sauce + Buttered brioche with fries. It has coleslaw and their special Cowboy Crack sauce on it. The pulled pork was cooked well, huge amount of meat. Definitely not shredded, but pulled apart. A few chunks were at least 2" in length and about 1 1/4" wide. Also, it comes with a boq sauce already on it, besides their special sauce. My preference is the pork has no boq sauce on it but it's at the table to add if it's needed. But, gotta say this, HUGE amount of meat, and a tasty bun. Fries were good, but not spectacular or special. Their ketchup has some kick to it, so that was pretty neat. But, my taste buds were almost confused with the special sauce, the bbq sauce and then the ketchup. My wife ordered the Coca-Cola Braised Short Rib Slow-braised short rib + Coca-Cola reduction + Buttery whipped potatoes + Smothered green beans + Crispy tobacco onions. Next time I may order that. I tasted the meat and mashed potatoes, yeh, really yummy! All in all, a good night, really good service, not too noisy, nice decor (several lights looked burnt out in a corner chandelier and a a dark evening, it would be difficult to see a menu. Just sayin') Not a big drinker but definitely a large selection of adult beverages. Would definitely make it a fun evening. Yeh, warrants a return visit with friends!!
