Take the Trip: Pickles and Bones BBQ -- A Flavor-Filled Welcome in Milford, Ohio Every now and then, you find a place that doesn't just serve great food -- it serves good vibes, too. That was exactly our experience today at Pickles and Bones BBQ in Milford, Ohio. With its bright exterior, welcoming charm, and the irresistible scent of slow-smoked meats drifting out the door, this little BBQ joint made a big impression. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted like old friends. Renee, who runs the front of house with a warm smile and an even warmer heart, shared the story of how Pickles and Bones got started. It began as a humble food truck -- just a dream on wheels -- and grew into the cheerful brick-and-mortar spot it is today. At first, it served breakfast and lunch, but since breakfast crowds mostly came on weekends, the team decided to go all in on what they truly excel at: BBQ. And thank goodness they did. You can taste the passion in every bite. And you can hear it in Renee's voice when she talks -- with unmistakable pride -- about how far they've come. This isn't just a business; it's a labor of love. Now, let's talk food. I ordered the Brisket Reuben, minus the sauerkraut (I know -- a German who doesn't like sauerkraut... I'm a walking contradiction). Instead, I added a side of their creamy coleslaw, which brought just the right crunch and tang. That brisket? Unreal. Smoky, tender, and melt-in-your-mouth good. Layered on marble rye, it hit every note of comfort, flavor, and satisfaction. Each sandwich comes with two sides, and I didn't hold back. I picked the hoe cakes -- think cornbread and pancake had a delicious baby -- served with sweet, rich sorghum butter that melted in all the right ways. My second side, the cheesy potato casserole, was everything you dream of in comfort food: gooey, golden, and outrageously good. Now here's where it gets funny -- my wife pulled a classic move and copied my order... well, most of it. She duplicated the Brisket Reuben minus the kraut and the cheesy potatoes without hesitation. But she took her own path with the second side and went for the macaroni salad -- creamy, cool, and perfectly seasoned. So technically not a total copycat... but let's just say inspiration was heavily borrowed. Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but in this case, it was also the smartest lunchtime decision of the day. Another standout? The house-brined pickles that come with every meal. But these aren't your average deli pickles. Pickles and Bones adds jalapeños to the mix, giving them a bright vinegar kick that's slightly sweet but not spicy -- just a perfect, tangy crunch that balances out the richness of the BBQ. We both had iced tea with our meals -- mine was a half-and-half with lemonade, which hit the spot and paired perfectly with the smoky, savory flavors of the meal. Just when we thought our experience couldn't get any better, the staff surprised us with a complimentary dessert to welcome us on our first visit -- a cup of banana pudding. Light, creamy, and packed with nostalgic flavor, it was the perfect exclamation point to end a fantastic meal. But what truly makes Pickles and Bones special is the people. The staff greeted customers by name, checked in often with genuine smiles, and made everyone feel like family coming over for Sunday dinner. That kind of warmth isn't something you can fake -- it's the real secret ingredient that makes this place shine. We left full, happy, and beyond satisfied with our pick for lunch -- and already talking about making a return visit. So if you're ever in the Milford area -- or even if you're not -- make the effort. And get to Pickles and Bones BBQ. Your taste buds (and your heart) will be glad you did. Until the next time, don't forget to take the trip, See you soon! Brian

Our lunch at Pickles and Bones was so good! We stopped in on a Saturday and split the pulled pork sandwich meal. A good sized portion of pulled pork, along side the two side of our choice, macaroni and cheese along with tater tots. OMG, it was all SO GOOD! The pulled pork had great flavor and not dry at all. The macaroni and cheese was ooey gooey, just like I like it. The tater tots had the perfect crispness to them. We will definitely be back here!

I have recently discovered one of my new favorite barbecue restaurants and this is the place. The food was excellent, the service was awesome, and the atmosphere definitely laid back. I'll admit to being a little picky on barbecue places after growing up with so many in North Carolina but this place did everything right. My boss and new coworker were interested in going after I found it right here on Yelp. Plus it wasn't far away from pur office which made it even better. We went on a Thursday for lunch and it was just starting to get a little busy ar 12:30pm. Their menu is right on the wall as you enter the place and it's full of tasty options like wings, quesadillas, sandwiches, salads, and the classic barbecue meats and sides as well as desserts. They also have a nice little beer list with great prices. Brisket is always my litmus test for a good barbecue place, because I've found that if a place can do brisket right, they can do everything right. I was curious about the brisket Reuben, but I decided to get brisket plain for my first trip. I ordered that with collard greens and cole slaw. My boss got brisket too along with a spicy cheddar mett and collard greens and spicy baked beans. My new coworker got pulled pork with mac and cheese and collard greens. We also decided to try some jalapeno hush puppies and the pimento cheese. Even though the place was busy, service was very quick. The hush puppies and pimento cheese came first. The hush puppies were very moist and the pimento cheese had a nice little spicy kick. It was hard to stop eating both. Then our mains came out and everything looked just as good as it tasted. The brisket was so tender that you could cut it with a plastic fork and super tasty. The collard greens tasted almost as good as my grandmother's did years ago, which is a first, because I've never praised ANYONE'S collards that highly EVER. My boss and coworker couldn't stop raving about their food too. This is definitely a new favorite barbecue spot. They know their stuff and how to make it right. I'll certainly be bringing my lady along with me next time.

This place is a BBQ gem. We stopped by for lunch the other day to try the special and loved it. It was the Cuban. Plenty of flavor! We also got the Brisqette Quesedilla, my favorite. The staff is always friendly and the seating is both inside and out. Delicious! You'll get the meat sweats after this place

Brisket quesadilla

The meat at this restaurant is delicious. My favorite item was the brisket quesadilla - great flavor and loved the dip it came with. Also really liked the pulled pork sandwich as well, but the bun was really the star of the show there. The side dishes were just ok - not a lot of flavor. You did get to pick two when you ordered a sandwich, which was nice. My partner didn't love the coleslaw on its own, but did like it when he added it to his sandwich. Service was great. Wait staff was very friendly and attentive. We got our food pretty quickly which was great. Would come back and get another quesadilla!

Food was good! It was a little pricey, my husband got the brisket and only got two slices so he felt that that was a little extreme- but he said it was good! The potatoes were really crunchy, they were not my favorite. I got the pulled pork and that was pretty tasty and I tried their sweet sauce. My husband reheated the leftovers the next day, and he said they actually tasted better heated up in the potato softened up a lot. It was a great experience, but definitely only maybe every once in a while due to budget. The brisket was $18 with two sides and then pulled pork was $16. The inside was cute and service was good.

I have to start by saying that Pickles and Bones makes some of the best chocolate chip cookies I have EVER had. I tried them right before Christmas and because they were so good, I didn't really want Christmas cookies because ai knew they wouldn't compare! My husband's company ordered Pickles and Bones catering for their Christmas party. Were were all truly blown AWAY by the food. We had cheesy potatoes, cheddar brats, pulled pork, coleslaw, salad, smoked turkey, baked beans, cornbread with sorghum butter, house made sauces, and chocolate chip cookies. The cheesy potatoes were definitely good, but not the star of the show. I did not try the baked beans as I don't eat beef and was unsure if they were made with brisket. The pulled pork had insane flavor. It was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. The sauces were SO good. My favorites were the spicy vinegar and Carolina gold. We actually made salad dressing with the spicy vinegar the next day, and it was great. The smoked turkey was moist and had good flavor. The cornbread was next level and the sorghum butter took it up 3 notches beyond that. The cheddar brats were not part of the package, but the owner loves them so much, we added them and they were by far the crowd fave. I agree they were delicious. The coleslaw was one of the best things we ate as it was truly the best coleslaw we have ever had (literally only complaint was that they brought a little too much and we had to toss more than we would've liked even after taking it home to eat for several days.) It paired perfectly with the pulled pork. The side salad was simple, but the Italian dressing and ranch that came with it were both good. I appreciated the salad as a light and fresh addition to the meal. I was not there when the food arrived, but my husband's coworker raved about the service and how kind and efficient the team was. They even brought little cards to label each item. I'm really excited to stop into their restaurant to eat there sometime, and am SO hoping we order from here again for next year's Christmas party!

Delicious beef brisket and pulled pork combo with collards and baked beans. Bright, clean locale with great service. Love the new location.

We were quickly greeted and advised that we order and then pick a seat. I chose the turkey with cheesy potatoes and green beans. My husband ordered the hush puppies to start and they were really good! The turkey was great! I tried all three sauces and ended up liking the spicy vinegar with the sweet sauce as they kind of merged in my tray anyway. The green beans were so tasty and the cheesy potatoes were good too, but I was so full. My hubby also ordered the banana pudding and I had a bite of that. So good!! Also-ago doesn't live a bright pink bathroom with a pic of Dolly?!

Hillbilly charcuterie

Take out review. A-mazing! It was a weekend night and we didn't want to cook. Hubs and daughter said "let's have BBQ take out" - I was not ecstatic (I find it can be dry and I just wasn't feeling it), but the draw of not turning on a cooking appliance was overwhelming. So, we ordered from Pickles and Bones. I'm so glad we did! So delicious! Their menu had some creative takes on the standards that appealed to my jaded tastes this day. We ordered the Hillbilly Charcuterie , the Pulled Pork Fried Rice and an order of pulled chicken. We loved every bit of all three dishes, from the savory bites of the charcuterie, to the tangy zing of the fried rice and the slightly sweet and perfectly moist chicken. Their menu has all the standards, but these 3 dishes hit the spot for us! The only thing missing were some delicious biscuits (you know what I'm talking about, P&B proprietors). Location on Rt 28 is easy to get to (I know, 28 is ugly and...ugly) but fortunately this is located at the beginning. We ordered online and picked up easily.

Excellent food, service, ambiance! Is there a place for 10 STARS people!!! They're ease of the ordering process is perfect! Plating is beautiful! They're great for children! The kids meal for breakfast can include baked apples, yum. The ordering system seems like it will get even easier, order with QRcode. The utensils are plastic and the bowls and plates are durable hard plastic. Good on the servers not a lot of cleanup, unless dinners are messy.. They have unique eats and a new beautiful dine in location. Breakfast is not a daily option, but what a tasty treat it is when it is available!!! Thank you Pkcles and Bones!

Quality Food bursting with flavor. From the smell of the smoker as you arrive and get out of your car, to the smell of the food as it arrives, hot and fresh at your table. All around great selection of high quality meats, sides and dessert. The wings are hearty and we chose the dry rub. The flavors are a mix of smoky with a kick of heat. Sides: Mac and Cheese- cheesy and kid approved Potatoes: crispy, well seasoned and delicious. No condiment needed All the smoked meats were very tender and full of flavor. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They also keep the place looking good too.

Half-eaten meal! Split with another. The homemade pickles were de-lish!

Service very friendly and helpful! Picked up 2 meals plus pimento cheese and crackers to take home. We ate the 1 meal and saved the other for tomorrow. Delicious double cheeseburger!

I've eaten my way through every smokehouse in Cincinnati, so when I say Midwest Best BBQ is the real deal, believe me. My arteries are practically Yelp-certified. The team of servers and cooks seems like they recruited an entire football team of young men from the University of Cincinnati; service so fast you'd think they were running a two-minute drill, attentive enough to make your mom jealous, and coordinated like they're protecting the quarterback only this time, the quarterback is your pulled-pork sandwich. Their wings, rubs, and sauces? Every single flavor profile was so good I nearly proposed to the coleslaw. And don't get me started on the G-Funk wings. They're delightful, though naming wings after a rap genre means you half expect Dr. Dre to hand you wet wipes. And let's talk about the smoking schedule. They've got a night smoker and a day smoker, which sounds less like a BBQ setup and more like a buddy-cop movie: "Day Smoker plays by the rules, Night Smoker breaks 'em, but together they deliver justice... in the form of brisket." Mark, one of the owners, literally smokes meat during a half-day shift with the love and passion of a Michelin-star chef who moonlights as Cupid. This guy makes ribs like he's serenading them. If Hallmark made a "Brisket Romance" channel, Mark would star in every single movie. I bought several pounds of meat to take home. Not "a pound." Several. Because nothing says "self-control" like hiding a bag of smoked chicken behind your kale in the fridge. Exclamation point. Period. Now, location... ...here's the kicker. They're hidden off the road over a hundred yards. That's right, it's the Area 51 of BBQ. You basically need Google Maps, a Sherpa, and divine intervention to find them. Yet, somehow, when you do, it feels like stumbling upon the Ark of the Covenant... ...only tastier, and fewer Nazis melting. Inside? Casual. TVs locked on Bengals or Reds games, so you can watch disappointment while you eat happiness. Patio? Shaded. Perfect for when you want to sweat from the hot sauce, not the sun. The sides? Top echelon. Beans, slaw, cornbread, each one a little sidekick to the main meat superhero. And for the low-carb crowd, this place is a protein paradise. Keto bros rejoice: you can bench-press your brisket guilt-free. Bottom line: Midwest Best BBQ doesn't just feed you, it baptizes you in smoke, sauce, and joy. And if you're not leaving with meat sweats, did you even go?

We, of course, had to grab a brew and bite at Little Miami Brewing. As Wisconsinites, we take the opportunity to try a new brewery as second nature. We stopped in on one of the nicest days of the year so far, and going here just made sense. The doors and windows were open, the sun was shining, and people were everywhere. We ordered a few different beers to try. I love that they only sell their own brews on tap! We also got a pizza to share. We sat outside on their beautiful back patio, and it was perfect. The clear view of the river was gorgeous, and the day could not get better until I had the pizza. It was cheesy, warm, the crust was so tasty, and it was amazing. I have no idea how I have not been here sooner. Trust me when I say this place is a must!

Weird how that works. Especially in a mostly self-service setup where the "team experience" is supposedly what we're tipping for in the first place. Now, the place itself? Always a vibe. The ambiance is a consistent 10. Hanging flowers everywhere, riverfront energy, live music, sunshine, cold beer, people laughing like they don't have mortgages... it's basically Pinterest with an IPA tap list. The taco salad? Meh. The $14 "large" version looked like inflation personally assembled it. Nothing offensive, just forgettable. Cincinnati has better versions of that exact thing hiding in random strip malls next to vape stores and tax prep offices. Oddly enough, some of their other salads are actually much better. And salads at other Milford establishments rock...but it's not about the food. The Hawaiian pizza also came out looking like it attended the meeting but didn't contribute. Crust was underdone, chewy, and about as flavorful as a city council subcommittee. To be fair, I've had better pizzas here before, so maybe order it well done and pray over it briefly. But honestly? Nobody comes here because Anthony Bourdain's ghost whispered about the taco salad. You come for the atmosphere. The people. The flowers. The live music. The river. The one perfect cold beer from the homemade beer list that hits after a long day and briefly convinces you your life is organized. And in fairness... sometimes that's enough. and my wife loves this location.
