Roast Beef with Cheese Sandwich - after the fixin' bar add ons.
    Michelle D.

We stopped in for lunch yesterday while in the area. We were disappointed enough we likely wouldn't ever return. First - the counter service was so unfriendly and unwelcoming it was off-putting. Even when greeting her and asking her how she was doing - she did not make eye contact, smile or even attempt to be friendly. My husband ordered the 1/4 lb Cheeseburger and a small Fries. I ordered a combo meal of a Roast Beef sandwich with Cheese, a small Fries and a small Coke. What a disappointment! The roast beef sandwich is fairly small for the price but was enough for me. The roast beef was dry. The cheese is just a cold piece of unmelted American cheese slapped on the beef. My husband said his burger tasted like preformed frozen meat and that it was very, very dry. He had a hard time even wanting to finish it because he said he didn't like it but was hungry. The fries were fine. The place was clean. And there were barely any customers at lunchtime. I can understand why. I know it's hard to compete with chains - but good food and good service go a long way. We had neither yesterday and so we won't be back.

Large roast beef with fixins and regular fries

Stopped at Roney's for the first time in over a year, maybe 2 years. First thing I noticed is that all of the Roy Rogers memorabilia is gone and replaced with generic cowboy items. It would appear that this location may have also been sold to new owners. The next thing you notice is the menu has changed and that the prices took a big spike upwards. Not deterred by the pricing I wanted my Roney's fix but decided to pare back on what I was originally going to order. I typically get 2 sandwiches and a cup of water. Instead, I decided on the Large Roast Beef ($7.89), Regular Fries ($2.69) and a cup of ice water. The sandwich (with fixins bar) was great. The service was great. It was nice eating in the quiet, clean dining room. The drive thru was consistent as was the flow of customers in the lobby. You can also buy jars of the barbecue sauce at the front counter.

There are pictures of their roast beef sandwiches and fries so I'm not going to add more. Roy Rodgers was a childhood memory so when I am in the Milford area I always have to make a visit. If you like real roast beef and not pressed Roney's is the place. They are know for their chicken which I've never gotten since the roast beef sandwich is what I want. It's a typical "fast food" place so nothing extravagant and don't expect top class service.

    Apple Cheese Crisp

I'm honestly really upset with the new owners and not keeping the old family recipes and consistency. Apple Crisps are not the same anymore just tastes like apple filling from a can with some brown sugar on top. I miss the old Roney's and the owner but I understood he had to retire just really upsetting ): You a real one if you remember they used to put cheese in the crisp crust! Not an Apple CHEESE Crisp anymore

Affordable, Speedy Service, and Relaxed Atmosphere…read more What a wonderful surprise! My friends let me choose the somewhere we went and I chose here. One friend got the buffalo mac, the other got the teriyaki chicken with rice and broccoli. Both were very happy with their orders!! I ordered the teriyaki salmon with a side house salad with raspberry vinaigrette and mac n cheese. I'm not a big vinaigrette girly, so I'm not sure what came over me to order it, but it was DELICIOUS. 0% bitter and the slightest hint of sweetness - I was in love. The salmon was cooked wonderfully and the glaze had a sweet hint of something that I couldn't fully pinpoint (pineapple chunks, perhaps?) The mac n cheese was the low point of my meal and not even because it was bad...just because it wasn't anything to write home about. I totally will go back and it was very much worth the visit!! **can't remember how allergy friendly conditions were for the meals. Double check their menu before you go!

We were fine to wait a few minutes though for a table. Once seated, we tried to order drinks. Someone from my party tried to order a French martini, and we were told by the our waitress that the bartender could not make. They gave us no reason why. She then tried to order an espresso martini from the menu, and we were told that they were out of espresso. Lastly, she ordered a cosmopolitan, which came out light pink and tasted nothing like a cosmo - we all tried it. So the drinks already left us a muffed. We then ordered appetizers, and made the mistake of not ordering our dinners at the same time. The appetizers, which was the spinach dip and buffalo chicken dip, came out not too long after we placed the order. They were hot and had good flavor. The spinach dip was cheesy and had good texture, and the buffalo chicken dip was not overly spicy. We were glad to have these, as we then had to wait over an 1.5 hours for our dinners. By the time our dinners finally came to us, some of us were not even hungry anymore. During this entire time, our waitress probably checked on us twice and we had to ask other people for refills on our waters. I enjoyed my simple salad, but was told that some of the sides others got came out cold and the only burger our table ordered came out over done. At the end of all of this, our waitress then gave us the wrong bill, which made us wait even longer for her to come back to give us the correct bill. We were a group of 4, who all got drinks, appetizers, and meals, and we were given a bill with two meals and kids chicken tenders on it. Overall we had a less than great experience this Monday evening. We left under-satisfied and way later in the day than we originally planned. We felt the service was greatly lacking and the food did not make up for it. While we really wanted to like this place as the vibes are nice, the menu has many options for all eaters, the regulars at the bar looked happy and well taken care of, and the patio is huge, we did not and will not be back.

They seated us promptly and immediately someone was taking drink orders. Our waitress was very kind, offered helpful recommendations, and made the visit fun. I ordered the goomba fromlette and my coworker got the chicken sandwich. We also ordered sides of potato pancakes and garlicky greens to share. The fromlette is huge! It looked so good and tasted even better! The vegetables in it were well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The cheese and sauce on top complemented all the flavors very well. And the eggs themselves that made the base were perfectly done. I ate it all and left feeling so full and happy. I also have to talk about the sides. The potato pancakes are heavenly, and I could make a meal out of just them. The outsides are perfectly crispy and the inside melts in your mouth. I am literally still thinking about them. The garlicky greens are also fantastic and actually were the same vegetables that came in my fromlette. I loved them so much I was happy to eat more. They are very savory, saucy, and hit the spot. My coworker also really enjoyed the chicken sandwich, and ate all of it even though it made her so full. I will for sure be back. Bite has been on my husband's list for awhile because he's all about local small businesses. Any who, here is what we ordered.. Blue crab smothered fries 7/10 - So I don't know if they used fresh blue crab or in a tin, but nonetheless this was fairly good. Quite an innovative plate I would say.. I didn't know what to expect, maybe something more like a poutine...? The flavor of the blue crab and shrimp were seasoned very nicely. My only two recommendation would be... 1) they should make their fries fresh in-house - I could tell these were frozen fries and then 2) I would have like to see the "smothered" cheese/sauce be thicker because it was quite watery. Chicken alla vodka 6/10 - The crispy chicken cutlet was very good! Probably the best part of the dish. As for the vodka sauce - I thought that this was just okay and possibly its just my taste preference. There was a heavy taste of possibly too much cream? Or maybe even sour cream? I can't put my finger on it.. I don't know if it's me (it probably is), but I tasted even a hint of mustard...? Anywho... this dish was okay, the chicken really saved it for me. I recommend that they should do grated pecorino vs slices only because the cheese would be even distributed throughout the dish. The vodka pasta tasted better the next day as a leftover because I put a ton of parmesan cheese. Blueberry maple salmon 9/10 - My husband ordered this dish and I would agree that this dish was the winner of the night. Another innovative dish for a quaint local establishment. The salmon had a real nice crisp, cooked perfectly to medium, and there was a really nice smokey taste to the salmon. Overall a good dining experience - definitely small recommendations on a couple of the things we ordered on execution, but nonetheless we'd come back here to support.

I was with a friend that I hadn't seen in a while, and chose to sit outside. This is a perfect place to have a long lunch as they don't care if you stay and visit (we were there for over 2 hours). Our service was good and very friendly. We ordered the fish sandwich with mixed vegetables, and the chicken Caesar sandwich with fries. They were able to blacken my chicken instead of fried chicken, which I appreciated. I also wanted to have my side be onion rings, but they said they couldn't make a side of those, so I ordered the appetizer of onion rings. Holy smokes the serving was HUGE! They were also some of the best onion rings I have had. The sandwiches were cooked perfectly, and the side of broccoli, cauliflower, and asparagus was fantastic. We also ordered iced tea, and it comes in a very large Mason jar and was brewed fresh. Yum. I have read some reviews about dinner that were not as favorable, but for a leisurely lunch, this place cannot be beat and was worth our drive.

We had room for dessert as well: crème brûlée and a decadent chocolate dessert. Perfect! Our server was excellent. We made reservations through Open Table and were glad we did - some folks without reservations couldn't be accommodated inside (but could sit at bar or outside -- which would be nice if it weren't so hot and humid the day we visited). We had a great table at the front. Plenty of street parking - we parked right along side the restaurant. This is definitely on our list of favorites.

We have visited several times in the past, but this visit reflected a noticeable decline in cleanliness and service. The bathrooms were poorly maintained. In the dining room, the windowsills were dirty and had visible dead flies, which was very concerning. The chalkboard area did not appear to have been cleaned recently, and the floors were also noticeably dirty. Service was below expectations. Our server seemed to be covering the entire restaurant, making it difficult to provide adequate attention to each table. While we understand the challenge of managing a full restaurant alone, customers still deserve proper service. We were not asked if we needed additional sides, and given that this is advertised as an all-you-can-eat experience, we expected more frequent check-ins. After finishing our meal, we were ready to leave--I was holding my purse, our food was gone, and I was waiting for a takeout box for my fish and our bill. A group of 16 guests arrived, and our server got all of their drinks for them and then took all their orders first before returning with our bill and takeout box, further delaying us. The salad portion was also disappointing. We were given one small bowl to share between two people, and the coleslaw was extremely sweet, as if too much sugar had been added. It is disappointing to say this, as we have enjoyed coming here in the past, but based on this visit, we will likely not return anytime soon. We hope The Schoolhouse Restaurant can address these issues, as it has had a lot of potential and many good memories over the years.
