I was much impressed with all aspects of this family eatery. The menu is original and causes your mouth to water. We had brunch - when I saw that goetta was offered. I had to ordered it. The goetta was served on a bun with lettuce, onion and tomato and deli mustard. It was awesome. Background on goetta, it's true German - American delicacy. Only in Cincinnati and northern Kentucky offer this. I am fortunate to live in Dayton Ohio where Kroger's carries goetta. It is pretty expensive to eat there ~$30 for a hot dog, side and drink per person. The food is great, but not for the price. The My Wife's Salad is really good if you're looking for a starter or salad for lunch. They have a kids menu, but it's pretty expensive ~ $11 and too big of a portion of a child. Given they're at a park next to a playground, hopefully they will come up with better options for kids in the future. read more

This was my second visit to Senate in Blue Ash, the first for my family. The kids actually agreed that this was a good choice after reviewing the menu in advance. I appreciate the vote in confidence from the kids, but I already knew they would be happy. I started with a Vandermill Totally Roasted apple pecan cider and an IPA for the hubby. I was very happy with the refreshing cider. We shared an order of poutine for the table. I'm glad that everyone wanted to eat it because I could have easily inhaled the whole thing myself, but would have felt disgusted with myself later on. I feel like you need an extra carb or starch to have to clean up the gravy and left over goodness. I felt like handing over the plate with short rib and gravy was like I had sinned. When we order, dessert always has to be considered. If you want to partake in the desserts, then you better keep that in mind when ordering because the servings are generous to say the least. Kids hot dog is a full size dog. There is no skimping on this. WHOLY COW! Kid #2 order the Croque Madame and she could not have been happier. We did have to take 1/3 of it home because it is a huge serving, just like everything else. Kid #1 ordered the crispy pot stickers and she cleaned her plate. Hubby and I shared the General Tso's chicken wings and they were finger licking delicious. Did we save room for dessert? Heck yeah! We ordered a salted carmel frosty, bread pudding and beignets. Favorite flavor was the bread pudding. The frosty was a much nicer version of what the fast food place serves. The beignets were very crusty and covered in sugar with a delicious mascarpone on the side. Parking and location are awesome. You aren't having to find a paid parking lot downtown. After dinner you can walk off your food belly at this fabulous area. Kids can go play on the playground as well. Will I be taking the family back? If I don't, I fear that I might regret it. I'm still a fan of the Senate and especially the Mussels, but I wanted to send an update based on a recent visit with a few dishes that were disappointing. Chicken Wing appetizer: This dish is essentially chicken wings served General Tso style, however, this dish fell completely flat for me as the amount of sauce on the wings drowned them. It comes served in a bowl too so by the time you get to the bottom then those wings are completely soggy. I would recommend serving them on a plate and coating them with the sauce rather than submerging. Wedge Salad: They replaced the old wedge salad that I raved about with a new one. I'm not sure why they changed it because the old salad converted me from a non-salad eater to actually being something I would like to order. The new version of it just seemed to be lacking in flavor which I think ties back to the dressing. The previous version was distinctive and this one not so much. Sweet Potato Falafel: Served in flour tortillas with way too much chopped pickles. Again, this dish was bland and the flavors didn't flow together very well. I wanted to provide this feedback as I still very much enjoy the restaurant (mussels, hot dogs...) but these latest dishes just weren't very good in my opinion. read more

The Senate is a great spot for hot dog lovers. The main character (hot dog) becomes the supporting cast and the (toppings) end up stealing the show. I had the Kimchi dog: a beef hotdog with homemade kimchi, braised short rib, pickled cucumber brioche bun. The sandwich was moist and sloppy. The flavors of this combination was incredible. The wife had the Lindsey Lohan dog: goat cheese, caramelized onions, bacon, arugula, balsamic. This definitely lives up to its namesake. The duck fat fries were definitely a must have along with the dipping sauce that came with them. For dessert we ordered the Beignets: Deep fried Pretzel donuts with Caramel Mascarpone: sweet, salty and crunchy all in a bag. Wow - if you are in the mood for a hot dog - this is your place. They have some crazy concoctions, but we like both of the dogs we ordered. The wife and I took a friend here for dinner today. The service was unfortunately awful. More than twenty minutes between the delivery of the food and the first check on said food, which isn't acceptable. He didn't even ask about it when he finally did stop by. However, another member of staff spoke with the manager and expedited my meal and our drinks. The night was saved by both of them. My wife and I visited Senate for an early first-anniversary lunch. We'd heard a lot of good things from my sister, who's lived in the area far longer than we have. We finally made our way out here, and man is the Summit park area gorgeous. Great location and there's a nice area for a short walk after you're done eating. When we arrived, about 12:30, there was ample seating and we were shown to our table immediately. Our waitress was prompt, polite, and she explained the menu, since it was our first time, and made recommendations based on crowd favorites, as well as her personal preferences. We were each definitely going to order a hot dog, since that's their specialty, but it took us a bit to decide. In the meantime, we were trying to choose an appetizer--either the poutine, as suggested by our server, or the potstickers, which are a personal favorite of mine. We opted for the latter. The potstickers came out less than five minutes later, which we were happy and a little surprised about. At this time, we ordered our dogs: the Trailer Park for my wife, and the Cardi B for myself. And then we dug into our appetizer. Which had to be the best appetizer I've ever had in my life. The potstickers were perfectly crispy on the outside, with an amazingly flavorful and juicy meat center. They were topped with a a sweet chili, miso cream cheese, and green onions. Though I was initially unsure how the blending of the sweet sauce and the miso cream cheese would taste, I was instantly repentant of my lack of faith. They were perfect. And I've never said that about a food before. Absolutely sensational. I only wish there were more! The portion was five potstickers (two-three bites each), but the flavor made it worth it. If I had to sacrifice one iota of flavor for the portion to have been quadrupled, I wouldn't do it. They were just too good. Anyway... When the dogs came around, I was on a high like no other. They came out probably just ten minutes later, more impressive speed. They looked tasty and were a good size. When I took a bite, it was good. But not the best food ever, as I had anticipated at this point. Initially, I thought it needed a sauce to bring it all together, as my first few bites were dry. As I approached the center, I realized there was cotija cheese, which acted as a sauce, but there was just a small dollop in the middle, so I had a varying experience throughout the dog. I tried my wife's Trailer Park, and it was also good, but the cheese sauce was also distributed unevenly, and much of it leaked out of the bun. We both agreed that we liked the Cardi B better. Great service, great appetizer, and good entrees. Also, each hot dog is only $11 for a lot of food. Reasonable prices too? Definitely a restaurant you'll want to visit. read more

A must for dinner!! The fan favorite starter is Poutine. There was plenty to share and even take home. Plus if you order this there was no need to order a side of fries! I highly recommend the Lindsay Lohan hot dog! Enough arugula comes on it to act like a side salad so it is two meals in one basically. And this location has something BIG going for it... SPACE. This place is much larger than the OTR location and has a fantastic atmosphere. The kitchen it open and visible from most parts of the restaurant which is a nice touch. Additionally, they have a private room/area able to reserve, which we did for my dad's birthday. All of the food we enjoyed was excellent but special shout out to the mussels (the best of all the appetizer selection in my opinion) and the poutine (a close second). The food was excellent, and the serving staff are friendly, well trained, attentive, and plentiful. Good beer and wine selection as well. That part was great. We were seated at a table along the kitchen side of the dining room. The noise from the kitchen was terrible, including the chef calling out every order, and yelling 'yup' every time an order was ready for pickup. And the A/C was really uncomfortably cold and breezy... papers would have blown off the table! Overall, I'd definately go for the food and service, but sit in the bar area or outside if you can, or at least as far from the kitchen as possible in the main dining room. read more

This location is truly awesome on a beautiful warm day. The newest Blue Ash Park is fantastic, big open green space, swings, playground, observation tower and 3 great restaurants to choose from. This Senate offers the same fun menu as OTR, but in a more relaxed, no-rush atmosphere and a much more spacious setting. The place, as we all know, is strong on fancy gourmet hot dogs and Poutine. On my last visit, however, I decided to try something else and enjoyed a great (not lean, though) appetizer of Potstickers and an A-OK falafel tacos. The falafel itself was delicious, but the tortillas were cold and straight from the package and together with simple shredded lettuce and tomato slice, it felt subpar and made without love. We had lunch at the Senate in Summit Park today. If you like gourmet hot dogs then this is the place for you. Although, they do have a few more offerings. We decided to sit on the outdoor patio since it was such a beautiful day. The outdoor tables aren't super comfortable since they are long concrete slabs and concrete slab benches. But it's not too uncomfortable for a short lunch. My husband ordered the Chicago hot dog and I ordered the Lindsay Lohan. We also ordered Truffle Fries to share. The hot dogs here are really good! They have a great flavor and the unique take on the toppings for each hotdog add to the great taste. The Chicago hot dog was topped with tomato, mustard, onion, neon relish, sport peppers, and a pickle with celery salt. I had to grab the pickle from my husband and eat some of it because I've had that hotdog before and remembered how delicious the pickle with celery salt tasted. The Lindsay Lohan hot dog is topped with goat cheese, caramelized onions, bacon, arugula, balsamic. And, as the menu states, tons of drama! The Truffle Fries are amazing! We've had the Duck Fat fries before and they are just as yummy. Some of the best fries we've had. The only downside is the buns are huge. I guess they need to be for all the toppings but it's a lot of bread. Also, they are a bit pricey. It's $11 for a hotdog and $7 for a smallish order of fries. We didn't order any alcohol but did look over the list and it's a bit pricey too. The service was fine, the patio was nice on such a pretty day, we had a view of Summit Park and the food was yummy. Then we took in the views of Summit Park and Blue Ash from the observation tower. If you haven't stopped in yet you should definitely try it soon. read more

My college friends and I got together for a holiday/reunion dinner at Senate - Blue Ash as it was close to the house of the friend who was hosting everyone overnight. The restaurant, sister to the Over-the-Rhine hot spot, is located on a former airfield in the outer suburbs. There are several other restaurants in the complex as well as an ice skating rink. It was an interesting locale for sure. Senate has well appointed, minimal interior design. We were seated near the bar at several tables that have a booth on one side. Industrial doors/windows looked out onto property which would have been a cool view in the daytime. The majority of the girls are meat-eaters and decided to share several plates including the wings, poutine, a gourmet hot dog (their specialty), and a tuna poke bowl. Portion sizes weren't large and the prices were generally in the $10 - $12 range. Some folks had wine or beer, but I went with one of their imaginative cocktails, the Fidel Castro. It was a twist on an Old Fashioned. Delicious! A drink created with bourbon-barrel aged rum, how could that be bad?!? For dinner, I ordered the Lindsay Lohan with their housemade, veggie dog (which is no where to be found on the menu) but hold the bacon. It was very tasty, but pricey at $12 a la carte. I sampled a few of the other shared plates as well. My favorite was the lobster mac & cheese side dish. With it's large chunks of lobster and slightly garlicky cheese sauce, it came out bubbling in it's own mini cast iron pan. I'd easily eat one on my own for an entree. One friend had the sweet potato falafel which surprised me by being scrumptious. Sweet potato in falafel, sounded weird? I would order that over the dog if I visited again. All in all, we had a good server and a lovely night. With six of us, the tab was around $250 including tip. That's a bit more than I wanted to spend on a Thursday night, but covered multiple drinks for several of the gals. I might try Senate's OTR location, but doubt that I'll venture back to the burbs for this one. read more

Anyone that knows me will tell you I feel some type of way about Senate. As Senate was the first restaurant to break the OTR scene, I am not only forever grateful for their presence, but genuinely in love with every single menu item I've ever eaten. My con with eating at the OG Senate is that it's super busy all the time & it's small and hard to get seats. Imagine my joy when I found out they had a larger restaurant in Blue Ash that is much more convenient for business lunches! Senate Blue Ash is located in the new business district next to Summit Park. There are many restaurants that have opened in the area that I can't wait to try. My friend works in Blue Ash and wanted to get lunch. She mentioned there was a larger Senate located just a hop skip away from her office and I was instantly sold. This Senate is much larger than the original so we were able to be sat immediately. My life problem with Senate is that I always want EVERYTHING. I always feel the need to eat a hot dog because that's what they're known for. But what about the poutine? The Mac and cheese? Mussels? What is a girl to do???? Our fatasses ordered far too much for lunch (as you can see from below picture). We ended up with the poutine, heirloom tomato salad, lobster Mac and cheese, croque madame hot dog, and dumplings. Why would we have such a gluttonous lunch? Well we're idiots, so I don't know why, but at least I can say we were well fed. I've never gone to Senate and not gotten the poutine. It's rich and flavorful and that #yolkporn you get from the poached egg is up there with the best. I could pull a Guy Fieri and eat that short rib "on a flip flop" and be satisfied. The Mac and cheese is perfectly seasoned and had I not been sharing four other entrees I would have licked the skillet clean. The dumplings were large and tasty - didn't exactly go with the hodgepodge of items we ordered, but that is our fault and no one else's. We had so much food I took my entire hot dog and my friend took some poutine and Mac and cheese back to work (salad does not travel well). Here's the crazy thing: the hot dog was good as leftovers! The dog had the perfect snap so that it could be reheated and the toppings were good warm or cold. I'm so so happy they opened up a second Senate. I'm an impatient mess that can't wait 45 minutes for a seat in OTR, but I can very easily walk into Blue Ash and get my poutine ASAP. read more

My wife and I went to Senate on Vine street many, many years ago (I think it was 2010). I would have given that experience 2 stars, but only because the menu back then was extremely limited and paying $12 for a hot dog seemed nonsensical. It's now 2021 and I visited the Blue Ash location yesterday. I still think paying $12 for a hot dog is asinine, but the menu now has a lot of other food options. I was at Summit Park with my son and we ordered a couple things to eat at the park. The service at Senate was good. The staff was friendly. The atmosphere seemed nice while I waited to pick up food. Used to come regularly and haven't been back since we went on lockdown. Looks like we will be staying away from now on. We ordered the poutine, marrow, the Lindsay Lohan, Korean dog, and two steaks. The good: Poutine! One of my favorites and it failed to disappoint. The meh: Bone marrow app was meh, had a bit of a funk to it. Hot dogs arrived cold, the bun overpowers everything on the dog. The ugly: the steaks were ordered medium rare and medium well but they came out near black and blue and rare respectively. Had a very strange and unpleasant funk to it that could not be ignored. Both our steaks were around 40% fat and gristle and when we commented to the waitress after leaving it 90% untouched, she defensively argued with us "ribeyes are supposed to come with more fat." Like I don't know what a ribeye is and I definitely know it's not supposed to be mostly fat and with so much gristle I'm struggling to trim it off while I'm speaking to her. And to top it off, we got food poisoning from the steak as a delicious after dinner treat for spending $120 pre-tip!
