Went to El Vaquero for dinner with two friends and was very pleasantly surprised! It is smaller than some of the huge, fancy-decorated Mexican restaurants in the Cincinnati area, but oh my, the food was much higher level than the "famous" restaurants. All three of us had outstanding, different meals. My chicken fajitas were the best I have ever had, anywhere, and I try them first at any place I go. Large portion, enough for two days' meals, was bursting with flavor. There was a generous amount of pico, lettuce, cheese, etc. to make the "taco" portion just wonderful. I went to El Vaquero Mexican Restaurant with family for a birthday celebration. When we arrived, I did not expect much...just the usual Mexican fare. However, El Vaquero showed me there is no such thing as "the usual Mexican fare...especially when it tastes so good! El Vaquero Mexican Restaurant has the look and feel of a local casual joint. There were a good number of people on the patio and (fortunately for us), a few people on the inside. The friendly host showed us to our tables and got our drink orders. Our host was patient, knowledgeable, and answered all of our questions. He kept the refills, chips and salsa coming, which made our dining experience better. I ordered the "Make Your Own Combo", with a Chicken Quesadilla, Chicken Burrito and a Chicken Chimichanga. Everything including the rice and beans came out hot. The taste was remarkable! I enjoyed every bite, and even had leftovers to take home. Everyone at our table had the same reaction as mine and also had leftovers. This place was clean with delicious food and drinks. We visited with a baseball team, and it was also the birthday of one of the players. They did a great job of checking in on us and keeping the bills straight. They also made the birthday very fun with a wrestling mask-wearing server coming out with a sombrero and a song that got all the kids pumped up. The only reason I deducted a star is that some of the guest's food came out 15 minutes later than others, and I had to ask for water 4 times before getting it. The servers were friendly but we could tell they were a little overwhelmed. They're probably great for a smaller party but I wouldn't visit with a multi-table group again. read more

We ordered carnitas dinner - with a delicious scratch made tomatillo sauce which was so much better than too-salty commercial products, nachos (without the chips so it looks like a salad in the photo) a chili relleno. The salsa was very flavorful and delicious with fresh tortilla chips. Our dinners were very good, carnitas excellent. Service was excellent. The only item I didn't care for was the chili relleno. It had only the tiniest amount of cheese in it and that had spilled out into about a tablespoon of hardened puddle of cheese (maybe had been microwaved?) and that was hiding under the sauce on the plate. So basically ate an empty cooked poblano pepper with sauce. I would not order that again, but the rest of the meal was very good so I would return again and recommend this location. read more

We went here for Taco Week and to celebrate some good news me friend had gotten this week. As for the celebratory aspect, the margaritas did they're job. We were there during happy hour so the jumbo margaritas were discounted. We all tried a different flavor and I really enjoyed my peach version. My friend's blue Curacao version was very strong, but it's all good, we were there to celebrate right? I arrive a few minutes after my friends and it was a chore getting my drink order taken and I requested a straw for my water that I never received, which caused me to resort to switching my lone straw between my two beverages. We were finally able to flag the waiter down to get our order, but we when received it we didn't have enough utensils for everyone in our party. I think they may have been a bit overwhelmed with the restaurant week crowd, as our server seemed a bit frazzled. This was my first time dining here - I had won a gift certificate in an Instagram giveaway and had never heard of this place before but I'm glad I know about it now! My party of 4 was seated right away, and a server promptly showed up and took our drink orders. I only have great things to say - we sat inside, which was smaller than most Mexican restaurants around the city. I enjoyed the coziness. The patio looked very welcoming and it appeared it could open into the inside on warm days. Our server was attentive with refilling waters. Drinks and food came out quickly. Chips were hot & fresh, the salsa had a good flavor, and the queso was perfect. I order the carnitas platter, which came with rice, beans, pica de gallo, lettuce, guac, and flour tortillas. I came to this area for work in April of 2021. I was there until June 2022. I went to this El Vaquero dozens and dozens of times. Their "orange" Texas margaritas are absolutely some of the best around. I've been to Bakersfield and these margaritas are better. Their burrito California is just amazing. Try it, I doubt you regret it. Staff is awesome too. Got to know quite a few of them during my year here. Funny thing, there is an El Vaquero in Reynoldsburg and was so excited to take my wife there to have what I get when I'm at Blue Ash El Vaquero. Total night and day difference. Doesn't make sense because it is a chain but Reynoldsburg food and margaritas were not good at all. Don't dismiss Blue Ash El Vaquero because they are a chain place. Margaritas are spectacular. Ask for the orange Texas margaritas. Look forward to next time I'm in that area. read more

Used to be Cazadores and then rebranded themselves. Their menu since expanded with more options but I've also noticed that the service has been spotty since that transition. Some times it can be slammed and you'll get your food within 10 minutes and other times it can be a little slow, and it will take 30 minutes or longer. As far as the food, it's pretty good. I tried this place without reading the reviews. And while I've taken away a star due to inconsistent food quality, I have to disagree that the service is bad or the restaurant unclean. My serves was prompt and friendly and it was definitely clean. I came once on a Tuesday and my guest ordered three steak tacos - they were so good! The beef was fresh and well seasoned! I had a fajita quesadilla with pork - which was good but the veggies were barely cooked. I assume one could specify well done. I returned the same week on a Friday by myself dreaming of those tacos but found the beef to be unseasoned and less than fresh :/ I got pork, fish, and beef. The fish was fresh and well cooked (NOT fried!) but it wasn't served with the broccoli slaw as described on the menu. The pork taco was outstanding and bursting with flavor! So, overall I'm conflicted. But intrigued enough to come back. I might be pushing it with 4 stars, more than likely it's a solid 3... but I have a soft spot for the lil guys. read more

Wow! Such fantastic food and great service! We came in an hour before close on a Thursday night after apartment hunting all day. We just wanted some food in our bellies- nothing fancy. I already felt bad coming in so late, but they greeted us warmly and sat us in a cozy booth. Our waitress was so sweet. You could also hear the kitchen staff laughing and singing. I felt like I was at someone's home at a family celebration! Awesome. Now for the important part: The food! Seriously, though - this was some of the best Mexican food I have had in ages! The food was not really all that special or flavorful. None of the three of us thought the food was of any real good quality. The service was really poor, took forever to get refills on our beverages (refills were wrong, even when we repeated the order). I ask to have my drink order corrected, and it took 10 minutes to get it right (just no ice, unsweet).
