My friends and I went to Taqueria Don Chago on Cinco de Mayo which happened to fall on Taco Tuesday. There was a little bit of a wait but they got us seated fairly quickly. The restaurant is small but has beautifully colored paintings on the walls. The service was quick and friendly. The menu was varied and the traditional Mexican dishes were delicious! Overall a very pleasant experience. We'll definitely go back next time we're wanting Mexican cuisine! read more

I visited when I came out for a meeting back in February. Our glorious host recommended it and took us there (I paid). It's located in a strip mall and has plenty of parking. We walked in and it is a big room with lots of tables for any size party. We had about 15 people. They were able to accommodate us as a walk-in group. We ordered chips and salsa and chips and guac for the table, so we had multiple orders. I ordered the tamales and skipped the beans and asked for additional rice. The rice was tasty as were the tamales. A lot of the time, tamales arrive dry. These were moist and flavorful. Some of the best I've had. Period. Others in our group ordered margaritas, enchiladas, fajitas, and more and everyone enjoyed their meals. We all shared as if family style just so we could at least get a taste of all the different orders. Fantastic! I definitely recommend Don Chago when you're in the area. While in the Cincinnati area for a concert, we stopped here for lunch. My family and I really liked the food. My wife and I had burritos and they were much better than the burritos we find in the Indianapolis area. My daughter loved her shrimp quesadilla. My son didn't really like his chicken tacos but we think that was because he put too much hot sauce on them. The chips and salsa were very good. Service was above average. It's another Taco Tuesday excursion. Don Chago is the Tri County Mall block, right across the street from the FedEx Kinkos on Springfield Pike. It wasn't very crowded for a taco Tuesday night around 6:30 p.m. Nonetheless, the atmosphere and music was very nice. I enjoyed the very festive music, and the servers and wait staff were very polite. We stopped by for an early dinner not realizing that it was Happy Hour. Our drinks were half price!!!! I had a huge margarita and my husband had a beer. Miguel, our server was great! He was funny, friendly and kept an eye on us. He greeted us with comp chips and salsa and started to banter. The menu is traditional. I was craving a salad and had the taco salad with chicken. It was good with a freshly made tortilla shell. My husband had a burrito and enchilada combination plate and raved about the spicy verde sauce. Good meal. The place is colorful and cute inside. Festive Latin music was playing that made me want to get up and dance after that margarita. They have a full bar. I think they are known for their tacos. Next time I would try those. I know that I give a lot of 4 star ratings but if the food is good and there is nothing wrong with the service and I would come back that is where I usually land. I reserve 5 stars for the best of the best. Given that we really enjoyed the food here although oddly there was not another soul in the restaurant at 1:30 in the afternoon. My peach mango margarita was delicious and refreshing. I also ordered the birria tacos and enjoyed those as well. My cousin ordered the nachos, al pastor version and also a tamale on the side. I would suggest that if you are getting the nachos make sure you have a friend with you as the plate of nachos they brought out was huge! She really liked them and her tamale which she said was perfect. The interior has a lot of interesting artwork on the walls and is mostly like any other Mexican restaurant interior. Came here on Taco Tuesday where they had $2 tacos I got one steak and one chicken. They came on corn tortillas. And of course they served chips and salsa. The salsa was spicy but it was good. I loved the tacos they were pretty good and pretty flavorful to me. The restaurant was located in like a strip mall but it was actually big on the inside. I also ordered a margarita. If 3-stars is Okay; this is a 2.5-star review, I really wanted to enjoy a great Mexican meal, but Don Chago did not live up to the experiences of other reviewers. The business was essentially empty on a Monday at dinner time. Weird. The chips and salsa arrived promptly. Both are excellent! The mixed fajitas (shrimp, beef & chicken) followed shortly - hot food, hot. Plenty of tortillas! The beef - just, ugh. Three large pieces of gristle hiding amongst the edible beef. No problems with the shrimp or pork. Service was excellent. The beer was ice cold. The restroom - good grief. The urinal was not draining and filled to the brim with stinking urine that had been ignored for too damn long - all day? Disgusting. Will I return? Probably not. read more

Went to lunch with my husband yesterday and was really craving queso, so we stopped in to Taqueria Don Chago since theirs is extra good. It totally hit the spot. We also, of course, had chips and salsa. The chips are a little different than what you usually get at Mexican restaurants, but still good. The salsa was very black-pepper-y. My husband and I love black pepper, so we were good with it, but it might be a tad spicy for some. My husband ordered the chori-pollo lunch. It was the perfect portion size and came with tortillas to make little tacos. It was super good; they have great chorizo. It seems to be hit or miss when trying New Mexican restaurants. This one however, is a definite home run! The chips (while a bit plain) were far outweighed by the deliciousness of the salsa! Wow! I walked in about 4pm I believe on Saturday not busy at all but it was a nice environment the server was sweet. I got two huaraches-which are flour/corn fried base with beans, your choice of meat and lettuce and cheese on top. I received it as a fried base which wasn't my favorite it was hard and difficult to use to eat how it's suppose to be ate. The salsa does not come on the actual entree I had to ask for it on the side after asking for it on the entree. The chips and salsa were alright nothing amazing. And for almost 20 dollars it just wasn't amazing. It will do to get buy this wasn't true authentic Mexican. I did also purchase Agua de Jamaica or in English hibiscus tea/sweet drink and it was actually really good so that's a win! read more

I stopped by here while visiting an antique mall nearby. The inside was roomy and decorated very nicely the server was very nice as well as the employee who brought out the food. I came with a party of four and we only got one basket of chips and one bowl of salsa for all of us. They were finished quickly and we waited a good while for our food to be prepared. The chips and salsa were very good. The menu was probably one of the worst I have experienced. It is quite limited and a little too a la carte for me. Their combination plates had zero detail besides for them having a burrito, tamale, or taco, so nobody knows what's inside or on top of them. Once the food arrived, it was pretty good and had HUGE portions. The green sauce on the burrito is spicy, be warned. The birria tacos were good but did not taste like authentic birria so I probably wouldn't recommend that. The shrimp tacos were good as well. Some people might not like the tacos because they are made from corn tortillas but I thought they were good. No harm in trying this place. read more

Staff are very friendly. From the chips & Salsa (the best EVER ANYWHERE salsa!!) the Meals are large portion size. Enough to take home for another delicious meal. We have never had a bad meal here. Can't remember the last time I authored a "First to Review" Yelp review, but it seems warranted here. (I'm sure the Yelp Powers That Be will correct me if I'm wrong.) Stumbling onto this fine taqueria was happenstance for us: We drove from Mt. Lookout one Sunday to get pupusas at the Salvadoran place about a mile south of here, but the restaurant was packed, and it looked like only one harried server was on duty. No thanks. We pulled up Yelp and found the well-reviewed "Taqueria El Monarca" and proceeded north. Finding El Monarca wasn't that easy, mainly because the listed address on Princeton Pike has a sign that spells out "Don Chago" in prominent lettering and depicts a stern-looking hombre. And shockingly, once inside we discovered that the restaurant's menus say "Taqueria Don Chago," too. Further, "Taqueria Don Chago" will appear on your check. As it turns out, this taqueria has been named Taqueria Don Chago for more than a year, but the last several Yelp reviewers were apparently oblivous to this name (and ownership?) change. (Fair mistake, perhaps: A sign over the bar still says "El Monarca.") Went with tacos: al pastor, barbacoa, and lengua. (It's always a plus to see tongue on a menu around here!). The prices seemed a bit high for the location--$4.50 for the lengua--but the kitchen is very generous with the meat. Very good, although the lengua could have been a little more tender. The menu generally appears to be seriously Mexican, with things like menudo, but then it also features some Tex-Mex (fajitas) and Americanized (a Chipotle-like bowl), too. There's something for everyone here, most likely. Staff could not have been more friendly--they were in the top echelon on that score. Decor in this rather large strip-center taqueria is industrial style: concrete floors, exposed ductwork, high ceilings. read more

Have been to Don Chago twice now, both times the food was good and it was quick to get a table. It's a nice relaxed place with Mexican music playing in the background, very easy to carry a conversation. The service was great during the first visit. On the second, we were waited on quickly and got drinks and chips, but when we needed a couple minutes more to look at the menu, the waiter disappeared and never came back. After half an hour, we flagged down the bartender and he made it all right. Never did see the first waiter again that evening, was kind of odd. Update - went by here a week or two ago on a Saturday night and had a very different experience. This is no longer a casual carryout type spot, but instead it's a sit down that will also let you walk up and do a "chipotle" style ordering. it's an odd combination and not one that I think is for the better. The price of the burrito went up ($9, which isn't excessive), and the burrito I got was a little less impressive as well. The flavor of the meat was still awesome, and there was a LOT of that, but everything else was worse than I remember and definitely not as accommodating. Still worth a visit, I think? read more

While visiting Cincinnati, I jumped on yelp looking for lunch and it did not fail! Don Chago is spacious with plenty of seating and a bar. The music is festive and the staff is friendly. The chips and salsa are complementary and both are delicious! The chips are crispy and the salsa is not too hot, but has great flavor. We got some bean dip, which had a little queso on top, both were excellent. For drinks, we ordered a small pitcher of margaritas and it was plenty for 3. They have little crushed ice, which I enjoyed. The food took a little while and we probably ate too many chips. We split a few items. The birria tacos are phenomenal! The al pastor street taco was pretty good; I liked the spice and flavor. The huaraches, the "sandal" like dish was amazing. I like the crispy corn base! We wanted to try something new and came across this place on Yelp. It's located in a strip mall just off Princeton Road. They have plenty of seats and very welcoming atmosphere. They have unique metal decor on the walls. We ordered 1 Beef Yaco and 1Chicken Taco, 1 Mexican Street Corn, and 1Steak Bowl. Everything was very tasty and very fresh, but the Mexican street corn was over the top delicious!!! They also offer tongue and goat as meat options. The customer service was really good. You order your food then go through the line choosing what you want, kinda like Chipotle. They offer a lot of options to choose from for your taco, burrito, bowl, or quesadilla. Staff and the vibe of this restaurant are 10/10. The price of the food is good but the food itself is hit or miss. If you are coming here - get the street corn, camarones or lengua tacos. Their chips and salsa are really good! Skip the Baja fish and if you have kids, order them a single taco off the main menu (if your kids like adult food). Tacos (Asada, Chicken, Al Pastor, Chorizo) Topped with onion cilantro and lime. Steak QUESADILLA -This thing is massive, supper cheesy and the meat is abundant. You know you are eating steak and though its layered with cheese, you can taste the flavor. (Don't default to ordering this for a kid. You'll want it for yourself) BURRITO - El Ray - Massive burrito topped with chorizo, queso, pineapple and grilled shrimp. I recommend ordering while dining in.
