And its not like the dishes are of a higher class of dining. We have been dining at El Pueblo for many years now. We have always found the food to be hot and fresh. We dined there this evening and the dinner sized Taco Salad I had was filled with very crisp shredded lettuce and a generous amount of shredded chicken. The drinks are outstanding, particularly the Margaritas. Personally, I favor a shot of Herradura Reposado and a Dos Equis Ambar with it, but I vary my tequila requests, and their tequila selection is one of the best in the area. El Pueblo was one of my pre pandemic go to places. I am guessing we ate here a couple to three times a month. Recently we started this back up again and I was happy they remain a good place to get a decent meal for a good price. The staff is always friendly with quick service. They used to have a band every Thursday, I'm not sure if they still do but to be honest I always thought it was a bit small to pack in a group of singers. Don't come to this place if you want real legit Mexican food. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, and they were covered with the same red sauce that is sugary sweet like the local skyline chili restaurant. It was completely gross. I have been to this little restaurant right off Plainfield Road in blue Ash a couple of times but it's been about five years. We tried to order from the à la cart menu because we are seniors and don't eat that much, but that was a problem, right away with the waiter, he would not listen to what we wanted. He kept telling us what we wanted to eat from the menu. I've never really experienced anything like that before other than that the service was pretty quick, and it seemed to be a busy place and it smelled delicious. Definitely not the best Mexican food place I've been to, but not the worst. They have pretty strong margaritas so that's a plus. They have a few different fruity flavors, such as strawberry and peach, and then they have just your regular lime margarita. I've tried a couple of their other drinks and they're pretty strong as well. I will say the food wasn't the prettiest, but it was pretty tasty, especially the enchiladas. I've been there twice now with a group of 8+ people and we've never had to wait for a table. The is attentive enough and nice enough. Not the best serving experience, not the worst. They will always keep the chips and salsa coming, though, and that's usually the best part of going to any Mexican restaurant. My husband and I stopped in for dinner last night after not visiting for about 2 years. We stopped coming to eat here after a couple bad experiences in a row. We decided to give it another chance last night and were glad that we did. Shortly after being seated complimentary salsa and chips were brought to the table. Both were fresh and we enjoyed them. There isn't any heat to the salsa but it's good. Their menu has changed a bit since our last visit. It is smaller, which is a good thing. My husband ordered a combo meal and chose two Crispy Beef Tacos and a Chile Relleno. I ordered the Shrimp Stuffed Chile Relleno. I'd never had it before but it sounded really good. It was delicious! The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the rich, spicy sauce that the Chile relleno was sitting in was yummy! There was just enough spicy kick to know you were eating a hot pepper but not so much spice that you sweat or have a belly ache. My husband said that his Chile relleno was also quite good. He said it was better than it had been on previous visits and he really enjoyed it. He said the tacos were ok but he didn't care much for the spices used to flavor the beef. But he said that everything tasted fresh. Both of our dishes were served with rice & beans. His were the standard creamed pinto beans and mine were a black bean with feta cheese. I thought the rice & beans tasted really good but my entree was both filling and heavy and I could only take a bite to taste them. Our server was great! He's been there a long time and has always been the one who makes sure everything runs smoothly in the restaurant. The one downside is the noise level. It's not a huge place, and it wasn't super crowded last night, but it's an incredibly loud restaurant. read more

Its very difficult for me to rate El Pueblo because the service is excellent and there's always room for a group. But maybe that's the main reason why my team likes to eat here so much. However, doesn't matter how great the service is, the food is...hmm. I have never gotten sick but I have felt that regret and strong remorse after you eat something you probably shouldn't have. I was aching after I had two soft tacos here and I will stand ground to never go here again no matter the occasion. Prices aren't great, especially for the quality of food. Quantity definitely exceeds expectations and the portions are gigantic, but I will take a delicious $2.00 taco at Mi Ranchita or a $2.50 awesome taco at Mercado ANYDAY over the $3.75 blagh taco here!!! I went with a large group from work for a team lunch. I don't know how they got everything out quickly, correctly and tasting so good! I had fajitas which were wonderful! I went with the lunch serving so it was perfect being a bit smaller serving size! I didn't feel bad for eating a lot of the chips and salsa...which are also great! Great service and great food! Another great lunch today at EL Pueblo. This seems to be the go-to place this month for people at work. This restaurant features a quick and affordable lunch menu, so its a no brainer when you only have an hour lunch from work. As with any mexican restaurant, they always start off with chips and salsa. Their salsa is very simple, but pretty flavorful. The chips always come hot, but seem to carry a strange aftertaste (nothing their salsa cant cover up). They Feature daily drink specials including 2.50 Margaritas on mondays (and i think we could all use a drink to get us though monday). Their menu isnt as extensive as other Mexican places, But does carry alot of great options. I tend to lean toward anything with their verde sauce, which is amazing. The fish taco is always a good choice as well. Most items are served with a size of their guacamole salad which tastes fresh and has really great flavor, a great addition to any meal. They have great lunch menu options including 8 buck Lunch fajitas. El Pueblos dinning room is always booming around meal time, but they have a great patio for extra seating. Their patio tables and chairs are big and comfortable and a great place to eat your meal during the spring and summer. The Wait staff is very friendly and Ive never been unhappy with the service or the prices. This will continue to be one of my frequent lunch places. read more

Eating at El Pueblo will make you long for hospital food (and you might get your wish). The chimichanga consisted of unseasoned, boiled chicken wrapped in an undercooked tortilla covered in a flavorless, white cheese sauce. The fajita fixings, which you would expect to be served on a sizzling iron fajita skillet, arrived at the table dried out and lifeless like 3 day-old leftovers that you probably should have thrown in the garbage a couple of nights ago. The "ambience" has all the charm of an abandoned 1980's Pizza Hut and was exceptionally noisy despite only having a few tables of customers. The server was competent but bizarrely effusive as if to overcompensate for the disappointing meal he was about to serve - we never saw him again until it was time for the check. The beer was cold so there's that, but I can think of better ways to spend $80. read more

We live nearby and go there roughly once a week. It's a great local hangout where the staff always remembers you and seems happy to see you. Great place to bring young kids, as it's always a bit noisy and crazy (in a good way). The patio is large and is a great spot for spring, summer and even some fall evenings. Even in the summer, the patio starts dipping into shade around 5 or 6pm. I'm just a dumb American, and I have no idea what authentic Mexican tastes like. El Pueblo has decent Mexican food to my uniformed palate. The salsa seems fresh and homemade because every time we go, it is a little bit different from the last time. I see some reviews talk about bad service, and that honestly confuses me. We've been going regularly for almost a decade and have never had bad service in any way. One small complaint: If you order a pitcher of margaritas, they bring out mason jar glasses. Those don't seem well-suited to margaritas. It's hard to get the liquid and the ice in the glass without washing off all the precious salt on the rim. read more

The atmosphere is fun with a mariachi band on occasion, bright with fun life-full colors, and a nice patio outside to enjoy the spring breeze and the summer sun! I am a huge queso fan whenever enjoying Mexican cuisine and El Pueblo has some of the best queso. Nothing special about it, just your typical great tasting queso. Tonight was cinco de Mayo. So naturally, the place was extremely busy and chaotic. Not sure the name of the gentleman who was taking calls, walk in orders, serving drinks, directing door dashers, and handing out food orders but he did an AMAZING JOB. There were 3 other workers that I observed helping him out and they did great as well. The food was still warm and tasty. They even added chips and salsa to the to-go bag without request. When I think of El Pueblo, I think of their delicious chips & salsa and friendly service. I don't get to go very often, but when I do, they always remember me. They have an awesome Chile Relleno and I really like their rice as well. It's a little different and you can give it an extra bit of yumminess if you squeeze a lemon on it. My only complaint would be the shredded chicken. I typically love a chicken soft taco, but there's so much juice, it's almost a stew in your taco. It's a bit too messy, but it does have good flavor. A little extra straining would be perfect. There's a nice outdoor eating area as well as a separate indoor bar area in the back. My favorite Mexican restaurant. Not only does it serve up tasty, fresh Mexican food, but it's also staffed by some incredibly warm and friendly people. Most have been there since the place opened a few years ago. Owned by two brothers who worked in the business for some time before deciding to start their own restaurant, it has the feel of a labor of love. All the food is prepared fresh every day. The salsa and chips are so fresh and tasty it's easy to make a meal of just that. They've recently updated their already satisfying menu to include a number of new dishes, including omelettes. El Pueblo is packed for peak lunch and dinner hours most days, but the in-between hours are great for a quiet place to sit for a while, alone or with others, talking, reading or working. I've been to El Pueblo by myself and in small groups many times. I've also been there as part of a group of 10-12 people and enjoyed it just as much. Happy hour and evenings in the bar are also busy, with drink specials and occasional entertainment. Did I say it's my favorite Mexican restaurant? If your idea of Mexican food is burritos, nachos, tacos and enchiladas smothered is a red sauce and a cheese sauce then El Pueblo is for you. I am not surprised to hear this place is always packed. This is white suburban boring mexican food at its best. For my meal I had the taco/burrito combo plate. I had the choice of ground beef or chicken, I went with chicken. When my plate arrived I found a hard shell taco (I was completely surprised by this) and a small burrito doused is red sauce and white cheese. To be fair, the cheese sauce is good, like most other places like this. My plate also featured rice and beans. It was all meh, the word bland comes to mind. This would all be fine and dandy, except this combo cost me 9.99, yeesh, and I would have preferred taco bell. I also ordered a margarita. More of the same, it was overly sweet, for sure a mix, but had a decent amount of booze in it. I suppose this is worth ordering, especially when it is 3 bucks on special. The service was alright. The waiter was very patient with my indecisive friend and check in with us regularly. It would have been a perfectly fine experience except that the waiter forgot my margarita until after the food had arrived. He was very apologetic, but not sorry enough to give me a deal on it. Oh well, the service really matches the food. I would give El Pueblo more stars if it were the best example of the style of "mexican" food. Sadly, I have had better. I have certain favorite dishes in Cincinnati - and el pueblo has the honor of my top entree. You must hit this place for the el zacatana -- grilled chicken and pineapples w chorizo sausage, smothered in white cheese. The perfect salt, sweet savory combination. I have at least 7 friends who swear by this as their fave too. I'm enough of a regular that I've tried lots of things on menu - all good. Texas fajita w shrimp, chicken and beef is yummy. The margaritas are delicious (go on Thursday for discounts on pitchers), the chips and salsa keep coming, and the service is quick and cheerful. It's also a good place for families - the staff seems to like when kids come in. Just last week, I watched a waiter entertain a baby with a puppet. That doesn't happen at Don Pablo's. read more

Margaritas are just a bit worse than the bottle you buy at the grocery store. Decent tequila selection. Margaritas WAY overpriced for what you get. Daily specials are good deals. Stay away from the wine unless you love terrible wine. Salsa is decent at best. Vegetarian selection is mediocre to me because most options are loaded down with oil-soaked, rubbery, char-flavor grilled squash, mushrooms and onions. Refried beans are bland and boring. Think of the tasteless, colorless food eaten by the people of Zion in the movie The Matrix. Very loud bar atmosphere. It's almost impossible to talk. By the time you finish your meal, you want to close yourself off in a room and put a pillow over your eyes while the noise slowly drains out of your ears. read more

Came here with a friend and I can say with conviction that the best thing about our visit (aside from the company) was the cheap pitcher of beer that was on Happy Hour special. My friend ordered a quesadilla (that was about $6 if I remember correctly) and this teeny, pathetic looking quesadilla came out on a plate by itself (no salsa, no sour cream), with a sprinkle of half melted cheese on the inside. Seriously, I take more pride in my quesadillas I make at home and eat in my pajamas on my couch. We asked the waiter what was going on with this and he just said that we didn't order the "entree" version (note: he didn't ask which one my friend was ordering- she said quesadilla and he said "ok") and took it back to the kitchen and brought out another for my friend about 10 minutes later. It was good this time, but first impressions are lasting! I ordered enchiladas and they were just OK. Chips and salsa were really good too, but I was just unimpressed with the food in general. Nothing wowed me, but nothing disappointed, either. The portions are large enough for any diner, I would say. Chips and salsa that come out before hand are equally reliable and "fine," but nothing exceptional. As far as the food goes, I would say it's slightly overpriced for the area. Drinks, however, are a pretty good deal. They have nightly specials, the sangria is pretty good, and the margaritas are comically huge -- if you order the larger sizes (I never have, since I always wind up here on a weeknight, and am always driving. I remember reading a positive review of El Pueblo from CinWeekly and decided to make the reservation. I was wowed and my husband and I recently went back on our own, even though it's not in our neck of the woods. In my opinion, a lot of area Mexican joints tend to serve food that all looks and tastes the same. This restaurant has distinct dishes with great flavor. The food comes out quickly, even when it's crowded. Anything with their white cheese sauce is incredible! Of course, the free chips and salsa are a nice touch. One issue we had at the birthday dinner was that my sister-in-law said it was too loud for her children. I'm not a mom and I'm in loud places all the time so it didn't phase me, but I wonder if this place is best suited to young couples, especially late on weekends. This is a pretty decent place for lunch, but not a place to seek out for higher purposes. A co-worker wanted to come here for the chips and salsa, but I have no idea what she sees in these. The salsa is mild to the point of tastelessness, with few peppers or onions evident. They do offer everyone at a table their own serving of salsa, so you can doctor it to your own taste. The green habanero sauce saved it in my book. Lunch specials are pretty routine Tex-Mex. My fish tacos were okay, and I liked that they came with black beans instead of refried. Dishes aren't smothered in cheese and sauces, which is also a positive. Portions and prices are pretty good as well. Our server was a character, at one point balancing a platter on his head.
