    Jalapeño margarita
    Danielle C.

First let me tell you who I went with: A recently retired health inspector who cant have anything with corn, is on a diet, and doesn't drink. A gluten-free/yeast free non drinker. My not picky husband. Me, a boujee Puerto Rican. Was the food authentic? Not really. Was it delicious? Absolutely. I got a cheesesteak burrito. My husband got fajitas. My mother in law (GF) got street tacos. My father in law got the burrito Colorado. Everyone was thoroughly satisfied. My father in law was extremely pleased with the cleanliness of the restaurant. In fact, that was one of the main reasons why he is a rep at customer. Fun stuff: -Giant flavored margarita selection including passion fruit and jalapeño. The jalapeño was stronger than I thought and very good. But the passion fruit was amazing (sweet though!). -they have a great outdoor seating section with beautiful flowers

Ambiance, food, and service all great. Can't complain. Love the tequila! Everyone friendly! Good came out incredibly fast.

Service is nice and friendly. Food comes out fast and hot. Restaurant always looks clean but has a strong floor cleaner Oder.

Wheat based fake lobster with flour tortillas when corn was ordered.

Misleading advertising, 28 bucks for a lobster fajita. The lobster is fake and contains gluten which is a common allergen. Company was net clear on the website and did not offer any attempt to address the issue. This is what a 28 dollar dish from them looks like. Oh and corn tortillas were ordered, flour was provided, also not edible due to clear allergens.

Chicken Soup with vegetables and avocados. I order it without rice. It's only available at lunch.

This is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. It's pretty traditional, classic Mexican with your enchiladas, fajitas, queso dip, etc. But there are a few things that I think set El Rancho apart from other Mexican restaurants... 1) The decor. When you walk in, the place is clean and really nicely decorated, complete with a fireplace in the entrance. It's really a great atmosphere and they do an excellent job of keeping it clean and tasteful. The bar area looks really cool too. The restrooms are modern and regularly maintained. 2) The servers are all Hispanic and aim to please. If they make a mistake in the ordering process, they always take care of it quickly - very quickly. Not that I'm saying they make mistakes, but it happens. 3) The arrives fresh and hot. Always. We have never been served a cold dish in this place. Everything arrives piping hot and it is consistent - it always tastes the same. Unlike some other Mexican restaurants, the refried beans are not crazy salty. I order Fajitas Tejanas often and when I do, I order the with light oil (which I highly recommend). They're way less greasy this way and you don't end up feeling heavy after eating them. 4) They have healthy options on the menu. One of my all time favorite dishes is the chicken soup. Lately, I've been ordering it every time I visit (see the photo I posted). It's a GIANT bowl of clear broth chicken soup loaded with plenty of chicken and vegetables and slices of avocado. There is so much soup that I usually take home half of it for later. I also get it without rice since that's simply how I prefer it. It's so healthy that I feel like it offsets some of the chips/queso I tend to indulge in. 5) If you're on a budget, you can always find a coupon in the local Reach Magazine or Westsider Coupon books. They always have coupons and if you're on Facebook, you can follow them via Facebook Messenger and get added to an email list that has even better coupons and discounts. Honestly, this is simply our "go to" Mexican restaurant and we always run into friends here. We rarely have to wait for a seat because they have plenty of seating areas (main dining hall, a second overflow dining area, and the bar that can accommodate large groups. They also have a small patio for when the weather is nice.

This is supposed to be jalapeño poppers and mozzarella sticks...

GIRL, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! Very bad language barriers between the staff... we had to ask for things 3-4 times before they understood what were were requesting (We asked for a pitcher of margaritas and carry out utensils and got met with blank stares by several waiters-- and they asked us to "point" at things on the menu). The food was abysmal. Very bland and I couldn't make out where most of the "vegetables" were in my dish. Once our margaritas came out, they gave us coffee STIRRERS to sip them with, not actual straws. We also ordered "appetizers" (jalapeño poppers and mozzarella sticks) which were BURNED and served with some watery sauce that tasted like bbq (very strange). We were wondering why this place was completely empty during the week at dinner time. Please go to Cancun if you're on the west side. This place needs to be shut down.

I'm the Mexican food fan of our family, so I usually convince my husband to accompany me regularly. Despite his initial protests, he usually leaves satisfied and we both end the day happy. Not this time. We were both disappointed. We ordered a raspberry margarita to start with - it was Friday evening, and I was ready to kick-off the weekend. It was so weak, we ended up asking for extra alcohol. I hadn't ordered a raspberry slushy, after all. We followed that with a lime margarita, and that one did seem a little better balanced from the get-go. I ordered #2 on the Vegetarian Menu: Burrito with Mashed Potatoes, a Cheese Quesadilla, and Guacamole Salad. The burrito was decidedly unappetizing, and my cheese quesadilla was far more tortilla than cheese. Half the cheese was missing. The salad just consisted of iceberg lettuce, tomato, and some guacamole, and it was watery and limp. After trying a fair amount of Mexican restaurants in the area, this was my worst visit by far.

Paid for items listed on receipt in pic. PLEASE NOTE: TWO cheese dips were ordered and paid for. El Rancho Grande had an issue w/amount paid to them by DoorDash for our order, penalizing the customer (us) by INTENTIONALLY shorting our order one cheese dip. Our Dasher tried her best to get our full order, even showing them the receipt. El Rancho Grande on Harrison Ave stubbornly REFUSED to send full order. WE were cheated for an issue El Rancho Grande had with DoorDash! I read the DoorDash merchant agreement. ANY issues with payment received from DoorDash are to be taken up w/ DOORDASH in writing via the merchant portal. YOU AGREED TO THESE TERMS! Wonderful food as always! Crappy attitude when it comes to El Rancho Grande's issues it has with DoorDash and lousy customer service.

There was a DJ & a dance floor, but very few people were dancing, which was disappointing. The place itself was cool with colorful lights & fun graffiti-like walls, but the aesthetic was let down by the lack of people. We enjoyed the free popcorn & I really liked my drink, the downside up, although I realize it's probably too sweet for most. Unfortunately, the cocktail & popcorn didn't make up for the dead atmosphere & we left pretty quickly. I would be interested in going again & seeing what it would be like when it's lively; I imagine it would be a fun spot when the dance floor is full!

It was a nice night so we took advantage of being able to sit outside. I love all the random art and set up of the back. To drink I had the chunker, which was gin in a San Pelegríno it was a very refreshing drink! Deceptively doesn't taste like alcohol. I noticed some people with white claws and little airplane bottles so naturally I have to have a strong claw as well. We also had some very tasty shots, all around we had a good time, just hanging out and enjoying drinks, can't wait to come back here and visit again!

Food: 5/5 Dishes are explained as slightly larger plates than tapas style. My favorites: Wood Grilled Octopus, Crispy Falafel, Bouillabaisse. Love the Moroccan Mint Tea as well! Service: 4.7/5 Very friendly! They course out your plates for you which I always love. They were able to accommodate my pescatarian diet (I.e., meats on the side to give to others at the table). On a less busy night, they offered a free toast for my birthday. I've been for other celebratory dinners here on busier nights where that hasn't happened, so it was a lovely surprise! Ambiance: 4/5 A little busy and can get loud on the weekends with table chatter, cutlery clinks, and the brick walls echoing noise around. Tables are also close together, so you can definitely hear the conversation next to you. The decor is pleasant and the lighting is soft and romantic enough that it is still a perfect date night spot! There are also a couple larger crescent booths for larger parties.
