This review is for the location at Clark and Deming. I just had an exam with Dr. Novak, who is amazing! She was very friendly, happy to explain things to me, and very straightforward, no medical jargon and no agenda to push. I wear glasses, but I asked her about contacts and Lasik, and she gave me helpful information but didn't push anything, just told me what my options would be, and, given my expressed preferences, what her recommendation was. I had the standard glasses exam and dilation ($74 total, which I can totally live with), and Dr. Novak not only confirmed that my current prescription is still appropriate, but wrote out a copy for me, which no one has ever done for me before. The sales clerks were also super friendly and non-pushy. When I arrived, I was given a one-page form to fill out (address, insurance if any, history of eye issues) plus the standard HIPAA release to sign. I was asked if I wanted to look at frames, but neither of them asked again or suggested that I just look around anyway (as I've experienced other places), and both complimented my current pair. They were also efficient about checking on my dilation and getting my bill taken care of. I was very happy with my experience at See, and I will definitely be going back again next year when it's time for my check-up. Dr. Novak is the best! read more

I get complements on my frames all the time. Sure, I could have gotten a pair of Derome Brenner, Oliver Peoples, or Alain Mikli Frames, but I'm not willing to drop that much for just the frames alone. No.. See Eye wear definitely has that design that can be funky yet functional. My only gripe is with the lenses themselves. Absolutely the best customer service I've ever received. I was immediately offered a water. I began browsing and was quickly approached by Adam who asked what I was looking for. He began bringing me samples from all around the store just based on my comments as I tried on frames. I love the frames he found me! I feel like a SEE stalker as I have been there so often this month. I bought the Groupon and came in about a month ago for an eye appointment. The optometrist is wonderful and professional and everything one hopes for from a medical doctor. Unfortunately, my eyes were dilated so I couldn't choose my frames right away. I came back later and fell in love with a pair of wireframes, though I was warned against them with my prescription and told that I would have to pay an extra amount for them to make the lenses fit in the frames. Okay, no big deal, these frames are rad. The folks who work there know what they are talking about, people. The lenses didn't fit in the frames and they just looked old. Luckily, I decided to come back the next day and ask about their exchange policy. Kipper, possibly the nicest man alive, told me that if I wasn't happy, they were going to make it right. He let me choose another pair of frames (plastic this time) and a week later Kipper called to let me know they were in. They fit beautifully and I couldn't be happier. This is a company that really does care (FINALLY!). Definitely coming back for my next pair. read more

I spent several hours looking for new plastic frames, and no other place even came close to SEE. First, I love the funky atmosphere and layout. The attitude of the whole place is great. I knew initially that I was just browsing for new frames, told the sales people that when asked, and they were really great about letting me do my thing. They commented on a few pairs I'd found (and were quite honest) which showed that they hadn't abandoned me, but were letting me have some space. I absolutely LOVED that. Every other place I've visited while shopping for new frames makes me feel like I'm being pressured into buying something. Second, the selection is AMAZING. I like that there aren't designer frames- I'm more into style than name anyway. Plus, it makes the frames cheaper than designer ones would be. Speaking of price, I was quite impressed with the price of my glasses. $230 frames and lenses, and an eye exam for about $50. I've never had vision insurance, so this is pretty reasonable for me. Other chains will expect insurance and charge significantly more- not SEE. I ended up loving one pair of frames so much that I absolutely had to go back the next day and get them. This place is by far one of the best eyewear places I've visited in the last 5 years. EDIT: I've come in for about 1,000 adjustments on my glasses and the guys are always great! As a long time four eyes, I've always loved looking in the windows of See, but I didn't think I'd ever be able to afford such fabulous eye wear....well, I was wrong! I finally went inside and sat down with one of the ladies at this location. She pulled some frames for me and we went through my options, and it turns out this place is totally reasonably priced! I placed my order on a Friday afternoon and got them Tuesday morning! I LOVEEEEE my new glasses!! Their anti-reflective lenses are so clear that some of my friends didn't think I even had lenses in the frames! I recommend anyone go to See for their eyewear needs! I love this place. Previously have been using For Eyes. Until I broke my Gucci frames b/c the lenses were not cut correctly. I was in the neighborhood and stopped in for a look. As currently unemployed and with limited funds, found 50% off section. Found 2 pairs of glasses for less than many outlets would charge for 1. Their selection is great and the pricing is reasonable. I recently stopped into SEE on Clark to have a vision test as well as potentially purchase a pair of new glasses. Everything was smooth from beginning to end, and I really liked the doctor (who happens to be an Indiana grad as well!). With that said, the real reason for this review is for Vanessa. She's a rockstar! I was looking for glasses after having my eyes dialated, so I clearly (unclearly?) couldn't see a thing more than an inch away from my eyes. However, she was extremely patient and helped me find frames that fit the proportions of my face. She was extremely pleasant and friendly, and I felt really comfortable around her. She priced out the glasses which ended up being out of my budget, so I unfortunately didn't buy them. I wish I could have if only to give her the sale! Regardless, it's been a long time since I've felt so cared for by a sales associate/manager, and I would highly recommend SEE to anyone looking for cute, unique glasses. LOVED IT! They were extremely helpful..From the doctor explaining what astigmatism is (silly question, I know), to the sales associates picking the best glasses and Rx sunglasses. Very thoughtful and very conversive. The only thing that bothered me was that my glasses were delayed due to a minor scratch on the lens, which took another week or 2 to get fixed. But overall it was a great experience, and would definitely consider in buying my next pair of glasses here again. read more

SEE Eyewear in Chicago was a lifesaver! I got glasses from SEE in Denver in June and was moving to Boston in early August when one of the arms popped off through no fault of mine. We happened to be stopping in Chicago to visit friends on our way and so we showed up at SEE on Armitage at 6:50pm. They noted that I didn't do anything to cause the break and immediately found that the SEE on Clark had my frames in stock so called them to have them held. Since it was closing time, Bridget did a quick fix on my current frames to get me through the night and the next morning I went to the Clark St store where they popped my lenses into the new frames and everything was good to go. I came here for my initial exam back in February, and had a really bad case of dry eyes (first Chicago winter and all!). I eventually started on Restasis eye drops, and have been going back to Dr. Bhatt regularly for checkups. She has been amazing and patient with me and my worry-wart ways, and always takes the time to reassure me. I also bought a pair of prescription sunglasses here, and all the staff (especially Vanessa and Amanda) were great about giving me their honest opinions about my choices. I'm a pretty indecisive person, so having their opinions helped me make my final choice. I've also gotten trials for daily contacts, and they were able to get me multiple boxes to try out, which is amazing. All of the staff is super friendly and never make you feel as if youre being rushed. Overall, I love the entire staff at SEE, and am super grateful for all of them (especially Dr. Bhatt, as my eyes are starting to finally feel back to normal!). read more

We chose this store based on great reviews, however so far an experience has been nothing but dissappointing! First, I must say they have good but limited collection of frames and they are all private label (i.e. not branded and made for them only), however price wise they position themselves like brands. Frames quality seems good though (and hopefully will be) so my husband chose a pair of glasses. However, its been second month now and he still does not have them because the two times he went to pick them up something was wrong with the lenses. We hope for the third time, but I definitely do not recommend this store to anyone else. I wear glasses myself and never yet been to a store that specializes in glasses and can not make them right already twice!!! This makes me question their expertise in glasses or simply dont care attitude to the customers. read more

I had the most absurd consumer experience here and will never return. I was early for my son's appointment at the Children's Hospital next door and stopped in to quickly get my Ray Ban Wayfarers tightened. The very friendly tech, Adam, said it would be no problem and then promptly smashed my glasses to pieces as soon as he got his hands on them, just seconds after he had me sign a waiver "just in case." Adam gallantly offered to fix the glasses for me - for $50. I literally thought I was on Candid Camera. I am convinced that this is a scam the store runs. There was no offer of apology or attempt to meet me halfway on the repair, just a snarky attitude ("well, that is why we have people sign waivers") and a phone number for the corporate customer service line. I don't know why some are claiming See is expensive or complaining about charges for special coatings or that See doesn't accept insurance. To begin with, yes, they accept insurance. Both BCBS and Humana. I'm sure others as well. Most people don't bother asking because they assume See is a upscale boutique. Its true that they don't have huge banners hanging up in the store about insurance. That doesn't mean they don't accept insurance, just that they advertise more tastefully. Yes they charge for anti-glare and anti-scratch coatings. So does every eyewear shop on the planet. If you don't want it, you just decline it (my personal recommendation is get the anti-glare but not the anti-scratch). Yes, they cost more than the $99 frames that the one-hour places sell. And for that cost you will find a wider selection and better quality. Frames generally run from $175-$225. This is within typical insurance coverage, for those who have it. Other boutiques in town like Eye Spy and Eye-dentity charge over $300 for their frames. And in comparison to these other shops, See is very anti-boutiqueish. The frames aren't locked up in cases, so you are free to just walk in and start trying things on. You can try every single pair on in the store and you don't have to have a salesperson following you around with a key. Some of these other upscale boutiques even keep their front door locked, so you have to be buzzed in. That may feel exclusive to some but to me it is just a hassle. My review is based on using See for 8 years. My comparison to the industry is based on being a prescription eyewearer for 25 years and having been to eyewear shops in over a dozen states. read more

Although you will walk in and feel like you've entered spectacle Nirvana, after about 8 or so months after purchasing (what you think is) the most awesome looking frames you could find, the said pair will wither and wilt and practically fall apart on your face. Oh, and, please, please, don't go for the extra $100 coating those well-trained frame specialists will try to gently talk you into because your lenses will scratch AND you will still see reflections in them! It's a trap, unless you want to buy a new pair of frames every 8-12 months. read more

I have purchased 5 total pairs of glasses from this shop over the past 6 months and have never had anything but the most positive things to say about the quality of the eye wear or the staff, with the exception of....how I was treated on the telephone by the (new) store manager, Michelle. Her phone manner is appalling. Since I was calling regarding a matter previously referenced to the earlier store manager (Angela - an extremely engaging, competent and pleasant person), I obviously attempted to be brief, friendly an professional in my inquiry - only to be treated to the shrill (on the verge of shreaking) voice of this new "manager", her complaints about her job???!!!! before she virtually hung up on me, telling me not to contact her further. NO Problem!! This woman should not be managing a phone, never mind a store since it is clear that she cannot even manage a conversation in an even vaguely appropriate fashion. Previously a satisfied customer, made to feel valued by the friendly and competent prior management - never will I "set eyes" on this shop again and would advise others likewise - to be wary of the shopkeeper who behaves like a fishmonger. read more

Wouldn't take a pair of glasses if offered for free from SEE. Why? 1--Sales associates who lied about features and costs. (Fact: Frames broke within one month of purchase. Fiction (sales assoc comment): "They're durable. Will last you ages." ) 2- Staff who could care less once you've purchase glasses. (Fact: No follow up, apology or offer to fix the above broken frames. Fiction (sales assoc comment): "We stand behind all our frames no matter what." 3- Poor quality. (Fact: I paid an extra fee for anti-reflective lens coating which began chipping and cracking within the first year. Fiction (sales assoc comment): "There's nothing we can do. The glasses are too old.") Actually, that last associate comment is fact, regrettably not fiction. When it comes to SEE, unless you want to see red, caveat emptor! read more

Can I give the doctor 5 / 5 and the store 1 / 5? I love the doctor! Her presence is completely calming and she is very professional. I have some dry eye issues and she has always walked me through everything to try. She is probably the best optometrist I have ever had. The rest of the staff is a completely different story. They have always been attentive and never rude, but they don't see to know what they are doing and/or terribly trained. I have been to this location multiple times since I really like the doctor, but after my last experience I think I might have to go somewhere else. First visit, my eye allergies were acting up so I wanted to have them looked at. The staff told me they didn't take insurance if you make an appointment that is not for an annual exam. It didn't seem right, but it only costed $20 so I didn't make a fuss about it. Second visit, I had an annual exam that took me over 2 HOURS. I get that it is busy on the weekends, but the major problem was the staff had issues with my medical insurance. I had my insurance card and I have never had any optometrist take longer than 5 minutes to find my eye insurance information, SEE staff spent 45 minutes and could not find it. My insurance also didn't have anyone in the office since it was the weekend so there was nothing that could be done. I coughed up the $70 for my exam and decided not to order any glasses or contacts there since it wouldn't be covered. My insurance usually covers the exam and then either glasses or contacts. I now have to file a claim with my insurance for reimbursement, which is just an extra step I should not have to do. I also went to another glasses store to look at frames the SAME DAY and they had no problem pulling up my eye coverage so I have no idea what was the problem at SEE. The SEE staff also told me it was wrong that they didn't take my insurance the first visit. They also said I initially would get a discount because they had a deal with my insurance provider, but that ended up being wrong as well so no discount for my exam. read more

I have been going to SEE for eyeglasses for many years...maybe since they opened. I have always had a good experience but recently I realized what really keeps me coming back other than their amazing frames. I purchased glasses with expensive lenses in February as a back up to my regular glasses, and they also had transition lenses so that I could use them as sunglasses. I later regretted my purchase and SEE went above and beyond to make my mistake right. I was so grateful since I made an expensive mistake. They appreciate their customers and know what it means to nurture long terms client relationships. I can't recommend them highly enough! read more

Needed glasses, so I spent a large sum of money EU of absolutely no guarantees glasses. $300 later I feel like I have 5 year old glasses that don't fit. The exam was thorough and gentle--we all know the routine, but some practicioners are callous. I ended up finding frames I liked more at a different shop, but was impressed by the selection and the friendly staff. The frames are interesting and varied, and though they're much more expensive than LensCrafters, etc., they're on the lower end of the boutique shops I've visited. My shopping partner got the impression that the other sales clerk was offering his "Those are AWESOME!" opinions just to help his partner make a sale, and added that he'd never accept advice from someone wearing glasses as god-awful as that. He maybe had a point there. But the clerk who helped me was straightforward and friendly... and wearing cute glasses. They didn't have much in the way of men's sunglasses when we visited, and they mentioned the stock turns over quickly and the monthly delivery is a mystery until it arrives. Therefore, if you don't find anything you like on your first visit, it sounds like it may be worth it to keep checking in until you do. read more

I wanted glasses that are fun enough to be, well, FUN, and professional enough that I don't like I'm trying to be something I'm not (i.e., 15 years younger than I am). My husband found See online, but I was the guinea pig who went in for glasses first. Two points here: 1) They have AMAZING glasses. They run the gamut from stylish-professional at one end to crazy*funky*supercool at the other, and everything in between. I found two pairs that are somewhere in the middle (and another that was a little too funky but boy were they fabulous - tortoiseshell cat-eyes with lilac across the top? Yes, please!) and looked great on my face, which is really the most important part. I couldn't decide between the two, and Adam was so helpful by explaining my insurance benefits and noting that I could get both for not a whole lot more than I was originally planning to spend. And they came back so quickly!! I went in on a Friday afternoon, was told "5-7 business days but they usually come back more quickly than that" -- Tuesday afternoon I was rocking both new pairs. And their "small batch" manufacturing means that they have new styles all of the time, and not everyone I meet on the street is wearing my same frames. 2) Adam is THE BEST. He was fun and patient and honest about how the frames looked on my face. And as I mentioned above, he took the time to really review my insurance so that he could provide me with the best service possible. Reading these other Yelp reviews, it appears that Adam is just a hit all around. GOOD ON HIM. He was terrific, and I will go back to him every time my insurance makes that financially feasible. The glasses are trendy and fun and also a bit pricey. The customer service is awful. I was hung up on by an "optician" who it was like pulling teeth to get information about my own account. When finally in the end it was like playing 20 questions. She did finally offer up a solution begrudgingly. SEE please hire mature, "people first" associates so that you business will go beyond the first pair and you don't get reviews like this. I was informed all managers were at a National sales meeting so not a good idea to leave people in charge who are so difficult and unprofessional. Horrible, horrible people skills. I don't have insurance and I really needed the $29 eye exam they were offering, and the doctor was friendly and helpful (my right eye is weaker than my left, and he asked if it had always been shy). The two people selling frames, though, didn't seem interested in helping me at all -- they were markedly more interested in other customers and offered them advice instead of me. I could have used it, too, because the glasses were mostly trendy and hipsterish, not built for people who don't have cheekbones carved out of iron or something. Most of them were $300+ (including lenses, but I'm still not paying that much for something that makes me look like I ate a hipster and then stole his glasses). I left without buying anything, and I really needed the glasses, too -- I've been wearing a really old pair of contacts instead. read more

WOW, wow, wow. I did not think service like this even existed anymore. I am seriously amazed. Had an eye exam, which was affordable (69 for the whole shebang) and the doctor was fabulous. She was kind, explained each step, and listened to my concerns. You can tell she really loves her job and her patients. I will be seeing her for my yearly exam for sure! Choosing glasses usually stresses me out like crazy... so many options... second guessing myself...nothing seems to fit right... its like shopping for a pair of jeans, only worse = ugh. But thankfully Kipper was an amazing help. He set aside 6 pairs that fit my face well and helped me narrow the selection down from there. That sure beat endlessly searching the store and getting frustrated and trying to send pictures to friends for advice!!! Kipper was such a blessing. He gave me honest advice and helped me narrow down my selection to the perfect pair. He was kind, engaging, and obviously passionate about his job. SO IMPRESSED. Prices were not bad either!! I went to 4 eyewear stores in one day and SEE was by far the best one for 2 reasons -Quality/stylish frames and fantastic customer service. Adam at the location on Clark was so helpful and patient. He stayed passed closing to make sure we were well taken care of and even recommended a place for dinner, which we also loved!! (Del Seoul). My only regret is that I wasted my time at other places and should have just gone to SEE first. Also, don't let the prices scare you because they often have a great deal running. read more

Hip as heck. Had a Groupon for this place and was still treated like a queen. Wide selection of styles and colors, and attentive staff. My sales associate even sent me a nice note a few weeks after I got my frames. They find frames they think will look good on your face, even with a face like mine!
