I honestly wasn't sure if I wanted to share information about The Secret Cove ( @secretcoveanacortes ), in Anacortes, WA! They are literally in this "secret cove" area and have a super cute restaurant, that overlooks Guemes Island, which is one of our San Juan Islands, in Western WA! We thought we'd try to sneak in on a Friday evening during tulip season. There was no way to get a seat upstairs - no real surprise - but we were surprised that we only had a 15-20 minute wait to be seated downstairs. It was pretty clear that reservations are needed, even for the bar upstairs. So make some! Downstairs is a no frills kind of place but most of tables have a view of Guemes island across the channel. No idea what upstairs looks like. Maybe next time. We decided on the grilled crab cakes for an appetizer and then saw neighboring table's dishes and decided nope. The plates looked too big to squeeze an appetizer in! Maybe we could save room for dessert? So we settled on a Caesar salad with salmon and a crab spinach salad (dressing on the side). Honestly, we did have two afternoon cookies each from our bed and breakfast before heading out for dinner... You do get an entree-sized piece of salmon so it's a great choice if you don't want heavier sides. The salmon was very well seasoned and cooked. Both salads were great. We ordered a piece of apple cake and a slice of key lime pie for dessert. It's pretty clear the pie is locally made and was really good. The Apple cake was fantastic. read more

Good food and good service, and the views are nice as well. The upstairs portion of the restaurant/bar can get quite noisy so it is better to get a table downstairs if you want more of a place to have dinner conversation. During the summer months the outdoor deck upstairs is nice, but bring a jacket as it can get a bit chilly once the sun goes down. read more

Service was amazing our server brandi did a great job other than her though the food was bland and way overpriced 5.50 for a Shirley temple 40 for some seafood pasta for that price I expect excellent food and this place fell short I had fish and chips it was hot and crunchy but had zero flavor even the tartar sauce was blah. Was here visiting for a girls weekend and we decided to try secret cove. We pretty much got the feeling like because we weren't locals the bartender, Brian, couldn't care less about us. Food was bland + overpriced. I recommend you skip this place and head down the street to Nonna Louisa's ristorante, you'll have a way more enjoyable time, better food and amazing service. From two visits. We had a good dinner tonight. The fish's was the beer battered. Well seasoned and crispy while the fish was flakey and delicious. I had the spinach salad with shrimp. The spinach was fresh, plenty of sweet bay shrimp. The mushrooms were a bit old though. Overall it was a good salad. The service was good and our waitress was working her ass off. Wow! On a weekend getaway to Anacortes and Bellingham, I wanted to eat seafood near the water! Secret Cove was the perfect spot for beautiful outdoor dining on the second floor patio. Our party enjoyed their fish and chips (cod) , delicious clam chowder, and a fantastic wedge salad. I had a house salad with a piece of salmon. Salmon was great!! The cole slaw is perfection. We went to Secret Cove with friends. It was a first for all of us. I didn't even know it existed until we planned the visit. It's located to the east of R Ave off 4th and T right on the water. There is a large parking lot in front so parking is easy. It was dark so we didn't get the full water view. They have an upstairs lounge and the main floors are dining. The interior is tiered so there are dining areas in levels. The dress is casual of course. After all this is Washington and people's idea of dressing nice is pants with no holes and a real tree camo hoody and ballcap. Men wearing ballcaps in restaurants annoys me very much but that's a whole separate rant. We were seated on the bottom most level next to the windows. It was a bit chilly next to the glass but nothing that affected us negatively. They had specials listed on a board and we were also told of them. Their menu is varied with entrees, burgers, salads, seafood, etc. Sorry to all you vegan friends out there but I did not scope out the vegan/meatless options. I went with the 10oz New York strip with vegetables and French Fries and a Caesar Salad. It came with a sauce over the meat and it was cooked medium rare the way a steak should be. They did a great job trimming it because I did not encounter much fat. The one knock was the steak tasted a little bland. Other than that sauce I don't know if they seasoned the meat with a dry rub or even kosher salt and pepper. I still ate the whole thing of course . Mrs Billy D had a fettuccine with clams and mussels. It looked good and I might get that next time. Our friends both opted for the halibut special with some kind of berry sauce. It looked appealing and I heard no complaints. Our service was excellent and we wanted for nothing. The bill was less than $300 for the four of us with three cocktails added in. If you're a soft drink person beware it's $4.50 with refills. I refuse to pay that much and I can't drink enough to feel like I got my money's worth so I went with water. We liked it there and will go back to check out the lounge. They have a generous happy hour. Give it a shot if you want to get off the main drag in Anacortes for some good times. read more

This place is so secret that it has only 3.5 Stars even though it's easily 5 Stars. The food is probably 4+ stars, but the prices easily bump it up to 5 Stars. The staff was supremely busy on a weekend with extra guests due to the Anacortes Art Fair, i.e. us. I didn't observe any lollygagging by any of them, and for that matter, they had very good teamwork supporting each other. Even the host brought up extra sauce that I had asked of the waitperson. The place itself is "ok". A bit divvy but not too ancient. There is a downstairs patio, upstairs deck, upstairs indoor seating, and upstairs small bar area. The staff were mostly wearing masks; thank you to those who did. They were indeed huffing and puffing in the heat. If you can time your visit for Happy Hour, do so. The discounts are worth it. The Food: HH Fried Seafood Plate, $14 - 5 Stars I'm rarely one to gush about fried foods as I can only eat limited amounts of it, but by golly, they sure did it right. The variety is superb. The breading is thin, light, and not greasy. The quality of the seafood is impressive. One of these platters have 10 pieces of butterfly shrimps, 2 oysters, a thick piece of cod, and 3 sticks of calamari that are cut from calamari steaks, not rings. They are so tender! What a steal at $14 during HH. We ordered 2 of them and took most of one order home to enjoy again. HH Beer Battered Mushrooms, $7 - 4.5 Stars I love fried mushrooms and these are BIG full size mushrooms. The breading is a bit thicker, but with the big juicy bite from the mushroom, the balance remains to be good. HH Shrimp Louie Salad, $10 - 4.5 Stars This was my main dish to balance out the fried foods. ;) It's simple and tasty. I would have preferred healthier salad greens, but iceberg is fine too. Not that I'm near Anacortes, so I've had limited experiences with the restaurant there. But almost them, this has been my most pleasant find so far. read more

This little gem sits down past the shipyards almost hidden by trees and fences but we found it! The ambience is charmingly rustic with touch of undersea kitsch. This place has several levels of seating to optimize the spectacular views, with the bar located upstairs. They also offer patio dining. We opted for the patio and were seated promptly. Service was fast and courteous. Hubby ordered a half dozen oysters on the half shell and he gobbled those down. I passed. He said they were great. For mains I had the Crab Sandwich- it was chock full of sweet Dungeness crab meat and cheddar cheese. It was delicious but it could have used a bit of seasoning or maybe green onions or sliced tomato, I don't know, it needed something more... My husband had the T.B.L.T.A.- Turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado spread on toasted sourdough bread. It was fine. Of course no meal is complete without dessert and I have to say their dessert list was impressive with items that we don't usually find offered, we had a slice of Key Lime pie and a slice of Raspberry-Limoncello Cheesecake. Both were fantastic and the serving size was huge. If you are ever in Anacortes check this place out. read more

This is certainly a little hidden gem. Off the beaten path of the touristy main street but worth the discovery! The unassuming front of the building leads you into a restaurant with a terrific view!! If you love garlic, and you need to LOVE garlic for this dish, you NEED to order the Brie and Roasted Garlic appetizer ($15). OMG .... absolutely delicious! The mix of brie and garlic on top of the light, airy and perfectly toasted bread was just wonderful. Next came the New England Clam Chowder ($9 a bowl). Great flavor and just thick enough to not need a fork. Lol Big chunks of clams and perfect amount of potatoes. The main course was Halibut Fish and Chips (market price on 6/19/22 was $25). It came with 3 pieces of nice size fish. The breading looked thick but it really wasn't nor was it greasy. It was really good!! The food was really good, the service was attentive and the view was great!! My only complaint .... when we got our soup I asked for 2 pieces of bread to dunk with. They came out quick and very that was great. However, when we got our bill they charged $3.50 for 2 pieces of bread. I'm all for paying for goods but considering that our Brie and Garlic came with 6 pieces of bread, at $3.50 for 2 pcs of bread, the bread alone on that dish would cost $10.50 when the entire appetizer cost $15. I just think the bread charge was a little much. Nonetheless, it was a really nice meal. read more

There is a large parking lot out front. Indoor seating by the window is awesome for watching wildlife and the view is great. The raw oysters are not served in shell and already in cocktail sauce. This place has two floors: top floor is a bar with a small outdoor section, while the down stairs has a larger outdoor section with plexiglass to block wind (both have indoor areas). We sat outside downstairs and it was nice enough but the views of the water seem to be best inside. Staff were very friendly and quick throughout our meal. We started with the mussels which were excellent (amazing broth) but it came with two slices of not great sourdough bread covered in cheese. This is the only bread they have (I asked for any other kind to help soak up that amazing broth) and it's rather unfortunate since it's something more like what you would expect for a kids meal or from a Little Cesar's. For entrees we had the Halibut with vegetables and upgraded to Cesar Salad, and a special pasta dish with crab, shrimp, and a lobster sauce over fettuccine and blue cheese wedge salad. The Halibut was perfectly cooked (grilled) and the vegetables were ok; the pasta special was overwhelmingly salty, so much so I had to say something to staff. The pasta also came with more cheesy bread (ugh). Their wine selection is reasonable and we had no problem finding a couple whites to pair with our dishes. I probably wouldn't come back here given all the variety in restaurants near by, including other seafood places. Maybe a visit for the bar experience inside, but unlikely to try a dinner again. Maybe the other entrees and/or specials make up for some of this, but the theme of cheesy bread is tough to overcome. read more

Visited for dinner on a Saturday. Good view of the water, friendly people and pleasant atmosphere. The food, however; was a disappointment. A salad priced at $27 was basically bag lettuce, a hard boiled egg and a thin overcooked chicken breast that could have been mistaken for jerky. The bill arrived which had been adjusted to include a 20% gratuity - evidently a party of six people constituted a large enough group that there was a need to automatically add a tip. Most places we frequent consider eight or more a "large group". The service was fine, but nothing special. I probably would have left a reasonable gratuity. I found it repugnant that this place felt 20% was owed. This place is probably better for lunch, but with so many other good options a short distance away, you should consider keeping Secret Cove a secret. read more

Located on the water in idyllic Anacortes. The seafood is as fresh and delicious as if you caught it on a line this morning. Comfortable, no airs kind of place with something for all palates. We had the daily special bacon wrapped prawn appetizer which came with four large prawns served with homemade tartar sauce. Tender, perfectly cooked and juicy. Our entrees were halibut fish and chips and steamer clam/mussel combo. Both were huge portions and satisfying. Dessert was homemade cheesecake with raspberry sauce and lemon tiramisu to die for. I had the Wild Salmon dinner. I still remember how delicious it was and that was last year. The staff was gracious and attentive. The salmon was tender and flavorful, the accompanying vegetables cooked just right. We must have stayed two hours, talking and watching the marine activity at the nearby dock. A most enjoyable afternoon and well worth the money. I take special friends there when they are in town. The restaurant is historical, the daughter of its founder now owns and runs it. You are on the water near a ship repair establishment with island views, deer wandering through, and vessels use a nearby dock to unload items, e.g., we noticed a vehicle being unloaded that afternoon. read more

Very quiet place around 12:40 pm on a Thursday. We had no issue getting a table without a reservation at lunchtime. The view is mixed with beautiful ocean, sky and far off landscaping, and a busy dock with a large cargo freight vessel being loaded. Aside from this the food was outstanding and the service top notch. The fish for the salmon fish and chips was large chunks of salmon--perfectly coated with a thin, tasty batter. The three piece was a good amount of fish. The French fries were like eating a slice of baked potato with every bite--fresh cut and prepared to perfection. What a great little secret not so secret place. This is on the Salish Sea nice views, indoor outdoor seating, friendly wait staff and all types of food. The fish and chips are incredible. The batter is just right love the shrimp salad and the fish tacos and Nachos... oh, and I forgot about the coconut butterfly shrimp with that delicious mustard, marmalade dipping sauce . We live in La Conner and were excited to check out the Secret Cove. It's right on the water and there's a full bar upstairs. We opted to stay in the bar area vs the restaurant. We chose a window seat and the view was incredible. We even saw an otter in the water. I ordered a Bloody Mary and my partner ordered a beer. Best Bloody Mary I've had in a while. We ordered the cod tacos and a bowl of chowder. Both were great. Our service on the other hand was pretty hostile. The kind of service that says, "I'll tolerate your kind, but only because I have to." Our server never smiled, never seemed happy and never really engaged with us except to take our order, which even that took a while. We definitely felt unwelcome. If you can ignore that, go for the views. Beware of the redhead female server. When we walked out, I told my husband that our server didn't like us, and he felt the same. We saw this bumper sticker and I thought, well said. Jesus would be so disappointed with that woman. read more

I came here two days ago with a friend and also today with family. Sat on the deck with friend and had the crab salad. It was so delicious with the balsamic dressing. The size was generous as well. With family I had the fish tacos and yes the portion was very generous as well. I had to bring some home. I chose halibut for my fish and is was tender and buttery....very nice. To drink I had a mojito which was very well made. Since they have redone this place it is so lovely to visit on a nice day and sit outside as well as sitting inside by a window. Service both times was super friendly and very tentative. I recommend this place for its seafood and beautiful views. read more
