Last week while on vacation, my sister and I m, at the recommendation of one of the locals, ate lunch at Seaport Grille. We were NOT disappointed! We were greeted with warm friendly smiles, our waitress was outstanding, the view was gorgeous looking out into the Atlantic Ocean, AND the food was "slap yo momma" good. We shared the firecracker shrimp and had planned to share the clam chowder soup, but our waitress simply gave each of us a bowl--talk about above and beyond customer service! I had the haddock sandwich with fries and my sister had the fried oysters with coleslaw and fries. They make their fries in house--whew, talk about goood!! AND the portion sizes are plentiful. Was passing through at lunchtime and picked this spot based on Yelp reviews and location. Had a wait for a table, less than was quoted so that was great. Server was friendly and efficient. Good portions are enormous. I had the street tacos and could only eat two of the three. Daughter had the lettuce wraps and could only eat 3 of the 4, and I helped with one. Another member had the firecracker (aka buffalo) shrimp which were good but again a huge portion. Seating area was nice got a bit chilly but that is our fault for leaving the long sleeves in the car. Date night with my boyfriend and we wanted something familiar so we decided on SPG. We ordered the crab cakes for the app and it was the delicious. For entrees I got the haddock sandwich and my boyfriend got the fish and chips (regular). The food was unfortunately a little on the cold side but nevertheless still good. We told our server Stephanie (a literal angel) and she asked if we wanted fresh onion rings and fries but we declined because the food was still good. For dessert we ordered the strawberry shortcake and it was amazing. Although the meal was cold the level of service we experienced from Stephanie was 10/10. Absolute gem! We love you girl! read more

The Seaport Grille is a Gloucester institution. It's always a good time and they're really great if you have a large group. This time we sat at the bar and just ordered some beers and dinner. Lobster ravioli is always a go-to of mine so it was an easy choice. The waiter was really quickly with our order and super chill. The ravioli though... it was soooo salty. Something must have been messed up when they were making the sauce because it was almost inedible. Other than that it was a great time. I'll still go back and try something else next time. read more

Nice atmosphere and ample parking lot. We went to dinner early as they don't accept reservations, but allow you to call ahead to put your name on the waitlist. It was my birthday dinner. I order the Caesar salad for an appetizer. The salad was overloaded with shaved parmesan and heavily dressed. It was rather excessive. I ordered the seafood trio of baked scallops, shrimp and haddock. Unfortunately it lacked seasoning (and could have used some butter drizzled on top). I took the salt & pepper shakers to it a couple times. The shrimp were over cooked and the yellow & green squash side dish lacked flavor as well and also needed salt & pepper. My husband's steak and fries were typical. I am glad we got dessert because they were the stars of the meal. We split the Big Dig, which is 2 very large fresh baked chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream in the middle drizzled with hot fudge and a delicious whipped cream with great consistency. This was the dessert I knew my husband was interested in, but since the Oreo Chocolate Cream Pie was my preference and calories don't count on your birthday, I opted to get that one to go. So glad I did. It was expertly packaged and I ate off of it for 3 days. Other items I saw brought to neighboring tables looked very good like the Fisherman's fried platter and the Seaport tacos. Last Sunday was a gorgeous blue-sky sunny autumn day and my husband and spent a few hours at a flea/antique market in Rowley. Afterwards we decided to drive a bit further north and visit Gloucester, Mass. We hadn't been in a long time. We live over an hour away on the South Shore and Gloucester is on the North Shore. We are not familiar with the restaurants in this neck of the woods but with a quick Yelp search we located Seaport Grille which has a number of 4 and 5 star reviews. It's a fairly spacious and pretty restaurant overlooking the water. There were a number of fishing boats and pleasure boats docked. Even though it was a beautiful day, it was cool out and they were unfortunately not offering outside dining on their large deck. We opted for a high top table right by the windows with a great water view. Even without a reservation we were readily seated although within the hour the place filled up so I think reservations are probably a good idea. A waitperson greeted us right away. My husband order a Stella Artois draft beer and I had a seltzer water with lime. As we perused the menu we were annoyed by a couple of flies and a yellow jacket. There was a door leading out to the deck that was open to let in some air and likely this was the cause of the insects. That said, I am seriously grossed out by flies...who isn't? I wish the restaurant would have dealt with this prior to opening. The yellow jacket disappeared after a short time and the flies seemed to make haste after a few swats at them but still it really was not a good start. Other than the flying insects the restaurant appeared clean and neat including the bathrooms. Gloucester is known for its fishing industry and hence fresh seafood and so although the menu is varied with "something for everyone", we opted for seafood dishes. My husband ordered the calamari platter and I had the haddock tacos. What my husband received however was a small plate of calamari as the waitperson had incorrectly placed his order as an appetizer. This was quickly rectified. My dish came with three huge tacos filled with fried haddock (you can also get the fish broiled) and accompanying toppings of lettuce, salsa and fresh tomatoes. If fish tacos are offered on a menu, that is often what I will order, such is my love of them. These were good but not the best I've had. I didn't think they tasted as fresh as they should have particularly given we are in one of the seafood capitals of Massachusetts. My husband tried my tacos and he liked them better than I did. He said he liked his calamari but that they were not the best he's had and he also felt they didn't taste as fresh as they should have. The irony of this is that we were looking out over commercial fishing boats as we were eating our meals. Both dishes came with fries and his with cole slaw as well. The fries were in desperate need of salt but were otherwise crisp and tasty. We had food to take home as the portions are quite generous. When we received the check we noted that the waitperson had not taken off the cost of the calamari appetizer that she had mistakenly brought to my husband. We had to ask her to remove that item. She was apologetic. It's a good reminder to always review your check. The restaurant has booth and freestanding table seating as well as the aforementioned high top tables. There is also ample seating at the bar area. There is a lot of parking in the lot in front of the restaurant so parking is a breeze. I would consider returning but I would respectfully ask the management to better handle the situation with flying insects. I know it's still warm weather outside and I appreciated that they had a door open to provide fresh air inside but there has got to be a way to manage flies and bees in a food establishment. Those flying insects and my husband's initial mistaken order, and then being given the incorrect check and my less than enthusiastic response to my tacos accounts for the 3 stars. This is obviously based on just this one visit which I know isn't entirely fair but first impressions are everything. Given how filled and busy the restaurant became and how many 4 and 5 star reviews there are, this place is clearly a fan favorite, just not ours. read more

Wow! Fabulous! We just had lunch here. Husband had a seared tuna on rice and I had the lazy lobster casserole, which was pricey at $45 or so but totally worth it. Utterly delish and the portion was so generous I took half of it home. It came with excellent mashed potatoes, too. The blackberry Old Fashioned was also good and the service was speedy and friendly. Too cold to sit outside today, but in warmer weather I think they have an outdoor deck with a nice view of the harbor. Also there's plenty of parking. Yay! read more

What a cute setting right on the water! If you've ever been to a Red Lobster...I think they are trying to model off of this restaurant because it is the true seaside experience. We got on the waitlist about 15 min before arriving and were seated immediately. Since this was our lunch, we didn't get any drinks but they had plenty of options. Our waiter let us know that they had some fried oysters as their daily featured app (which sounded amazing, but we were trying not to get too full on lunch so we opted to pass). We ordered our food and did wait for what seemed like a little while (we were starving, though). But when our food came - WOW! Both plates of food were piping hot. I got the seafood trio (fish, shrimp and scallops with a lot of breadcrumbs) and the sides of the day (mashed potatoes - surprisingly good, which is impressive as I'm a southerner) and green beans (a little crunchy). My boyfriend got the seafood pasta, and it was delicious as well!! I took more than a few bites right from his plate. Great experience right on the water. Went for an early dinner. Our server was nice. The food was so disappointing. I ordered the swordfish and repeated three times to have it cooked medium. It was beyond well done. Ugh!!! I didn't send it back and have a new one started because I would have been eating after my friend was done with her entree. She got the haddock tacos and really didn't enjoy that dish. Shrimp was dried up and I thought they left the shell. You could tell it had been sitting out and put under to heat up. Meal for our other person at our table came 15 minutes late. And they had the same meal as mine and theirs was not burnt crumbs on top. Tried to alert the waitress that one of the meals were missing and she ignored us. Very disappointed! I wanted to love this so much but it was just an ok experience and not a "love". First off the service staff was really nice and efficient. Which is why they earned three stars. I absolutely loved the unique drink menu with seasonal drinks. I wasn't feeling up to ordering an alcoholic beverage but if I would have I would have tried that pumpkin spice martini! I saw other people around me enjoying it and I really wanted one too! We started with the bang bang shrimp but I feel like the name is misleading. They are really buffalo shrimp and they were delicious. The portion size of buffalo shrimp is very generous it comes with a lot of shrimp. My husband and I both ended up ordering their lobster roll. He absolutely loved the lobster roll and for me it was just OK. Although nothing was wrong with my lobster roll, I decided that I would like lobster rolls with butter more. Our food was served quickly and efficiently. I ended up ordering dessert. We ordered the coconut cake to go which was supposed to come with rum Raisin ice cream but ours had vanilla ice cream in the bag. We asked a server about it before we left the restaurant and he mentioned that they did not have any rum raisin ice cream. Which was no big deal for us but I felt they should've told us, instead of just letting us "find out" when we opened our to go bag at home. Overall the food was good and the server was very good. I saw that this place had glowing Yelp reviews so I knew I had to give it a shot! My friends and I came on July 4th during a road trip around the Gloucester/Rockport area. I ordered the seafood trio with mashed potatoes and coleslaw. The casserole had scallops, haddock (I think), and shrimp. The bread crumbs and the sauce were so delicious! I added a drizzle of lemon on top - it was amazing! The sauce was so good I even scooped the mashed potato and dipped it in it! The coleslaw was pretty good, and there was a lot of it. For its location, I was expecting some average-tasting, overpriced seafood, but what I got instead was the complete opposite. First off, the portions were HUGE. That lobster roll was overflowing with lobster meat and the plate was overflowing with fries. Even the fish sandwich had a huge piece of haddock inside. Overall, I'd focus on finishing all the seafood and taking the fries home...and believe me, you get a ton of fries with your order. My only complaint is more of a personal preference: I typically like a thicker clam chowder than what we had here. read more

I have a family of four - me, a vegetarian, and two that refuse to eat seafood. Yet we were in the North Shore, where it's all amazing seafood. So I had to find a place that could accommodate my picky family. We called ahead on a weekend and were able to be seated fairly shortly after we arrived. We sat on the patio, which was very lovely. I got the seafood trio and was SO HAPPY with my food. It was delicious. Just like mom used to make; delicious seafood covered in butter and ritz crackery crumbles and baked. Proper North Shore dish. Took Mom out for a little birthday lunch one day while on a little drive and we happened upon this place. My cousin had actually been married in the Cruiseport next door so we had been there before. The menu was limited due to COVID, but still there was tons to pick from. Got a few apps and then shared a Fried platter - OMG it was giant (yes, more fries than other stuff, but still LOTS Of seafood) The Octopus was GREAT, Mom had never had it and it was cool for her to share. Drinks were good, service was great, staff was friendly and attentive. Then I had the lobster roll with fries and he had the fried fish platter. It was an abundance of food - no way could we eat it all - and it was very very good! The lobster roll was my second of our trip and I'm glad I gave it one more try, as my first one (at Pool Lobster Goldthwaite's) was a measly dry sandwich with nothing on it and no sides. Oh my GOODNESS I am happy Yelp brought us to Seaport Grille. This has easily topped our list of favorites in our area! This gorgeous restaurant has plenty of waterside outdoor dining. When I say the portions are HUGE, I'm not lying. It might be in your best interest to plan on sharing with friends! Plenty of vegetarian friendly options and an extensive drink menu. Such friendly service and a classy atmosphere, but with reasonable prices too! I cannot stress this enough... you MUST get the key lime pie for dessert.
