Food was good; the steak bruschetta was flavorful and an interesting combination of flavors. Haddock sandwich was decent. Nicely portioned, flaky piece of fish with fresh lettuce, tomato and thinly sliced onion. The fries were crisp, hot and salted perfectly. The tartar sauce was predictably if uneventful at best. The fried shrimp and fish n chips were cooked perfectly and portioned well. The ambiance was nice, decor is contemporary nautical, elegant and tasteful. As the crowd gathered, the noise level became unbearable. Couldn't hold a conversation without shouting across our tiny table. Our server was pulling double duty as bartender and handling two tables across from the bar which was unmanageable for one person. Service was slow... like really slow. 120 min for three fried entrees and one app. and we weren't in a rush but it took forever. I felt badly as they could have easily turned this table 2-3 times more than they did. Beer was cold. Ice water was aplenty. Food 7/10. Service was polite and friendly but slow as molasses. They need a full time bartender asap at least for weekend evenings when it's busier. For some added yet unexpected entertainment a rude senior was addressed by the manager for clanging his silverware on a glass for no reason other than to be rude and annoying while trying to get the attention of his server. This caused a bit of a stir because he raised his voice in disdain to being criticized for not acting appropriately. His childish tantrum was handled efficiently by the manager. She admirably suggested he leave the premises which would have been supported by the other patrons. Those present seemed to think an apology by this customer to the server for being disrespectful was in order but that didn't happen. Just an unfortunate event for an already struggling staff trying to shake things out at a newer business. The server didn't deserve this at all. We arrived on a Thursday evening and and were asked if we had a reservation, which we didn't. It honestly didn't seem like the type of place that you would need a reservation at. Then she said they were full so we asked if we could sit at the bar and she said yes it was open seating. We got there right in time because within 5 minutes of us sitting at the bar, all of the bar seats were taken. This place filled up fast. The male bartender you could tell didn't like us from the start. He was short with us and then he would just ignore us sometimes. There was a female bartender who you could tell was fed up with him and was having to pick up the slack. She asked if he took our drink order yet, which he hadn't and she let out a sigh and then took our order and made our drinks. We ended up getting some calamari and sharing the Captain Jack's baked seafood platter. I expected the plate to be a bit larger but everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great. I ordered caesar salad with rare salmon - the salad was mediocre and the salmon was not not at all rare but I didn't bother to send it back because it was such a thin piece of fish that I could see why it would be difficult to cook as rare - that said, i was surprised at how unusually thin it was, given this is a seafood place(?). We stopped in here for lunch between visiting the Hammond Castle Museum and the Cape Ann Museum on a cooler than normal kind of wet day on Cape Ann. Lunch here was excellent. The restaurant was spacious, clean and well built out. Parking was free. We were seated right away and service was excellent. I had the NE Clam Chowder as my throat was scratchy, and my oh my was it delicious! Hot, distinctive and curative like chicken soup only better. My wife had a garden salad which was very fresh, and quite delicious. I ordered a coffee that was excellent, and a lobster roll on gluten free bread that was superb. My fries were perfect. My beautiful wife had a haddock fish sandwich that was excellent and reminded her of fresh grouper. While we were eating, the owner came by and chatted a while about beanpot hockey, our love of the Sawx, how beautiful the North Shore is, how he and I were both over the hill ex jocks, and other such. This is one of our go to places. Great selection of beef, chicken and of course seafood. From fried to baked all well prepared and plated. Taste and cooked to our liking. Drinks are very,very good prices are more than fair and quality and quantity is excellent. Service has always been five stars. Thank you Ashley. This is an old Friendly's location. They did a great job redesigning the inside and the large horseshoe bar brings you close to the action. It's fun watching the bartenders work and interact with the patrons. So here we are in Gloucester, we go to the saltwater Grill located off a rotary. I found this place through the yelp reviews. Otherwise, I do not think I would've attended this place. But the food was very, very good, fresh and authentic. The service was excellent. The waitress was very hard-working, we sat outside, even though bees were a problem and we regretted sitting outside. The waitress worked very hard to serve everyone outside. The food was excellent. Salad, fried food, steak, all the food was very good. And a good price point too. We stopped here for an early lunch while visiting Rockport. This place doesn't look like much from the outside but we came with two dogs and our options were already limited. The friendly host sat us outside, asked where outside we wanted to sit (important with our dogs as we prefer to sit as far out of the way as we can) and put up our umbrella so we had some shade. The waitstaff was friendly and efficient. We had a food allergy in our party and they were knowledgeable and accommodating. We had a couple of salads (very good) and a burger. We also had the firecracker shrimp app that was also really good. Food is overall decent, although on one occasion the calamari was undercooked so the coating was raw, plus the clam chowder was clumpy with flour. The biggest reason we won't return (we've been 4-5 times) is that the hostesses are rude, lack professionalism and quite honestly, not intelligent enough to do a good job. read more

I took my husband to Saltwater grill for his birthday, wouldn't you know that the class of 2027 was having a fun raiser. We arrived at 4:30pm for our dinner reservation our waitress was Ashley Stanton, She was wonderful. A table with children on one side, a table of 6 on the other side. With smiles all around she was able to show calm with all the noise and talk with us about our choices. Give us information on what was happening in the reserant and served us right on time with everything.the food was wonderful all through my husband was upset that his shrimp scampi had tails. While we were at the North Shore Mall on June 1 I researched your Restaurant and suggested to my better half let's drive to Gloucester this place gets excellent reviews just to find out after driving 16 miles that your Restaurant was closed with a sign on the door that said "Open at 4" even though your website states 12pm-9pm? Thanks a lot for wasting our time and gas, not good since you just opened! Ended up at the Black Cow in Newburyport and sat on their outdoor deck upstairs. Great food and views! So, you being closed actually ended up being a good thing! It might be a good idea to straighten out your hours unless you want to piss off more people after just opening/reopening! Good luck! These guys have had a tough four years but are still hanging in there and are still worth going to. Nice atmosphere, wonderful staff, and the food qualifies as Gloucester-fresh. Covid has not been kind to Gloucester restaurants, and a lot of places that have been around for decades were forced to close. Loved the ambiance and food . Without reservation , about a 40 min wait . Not bad and comfortable waiting area . We ordered steak tips , haddock and salmon . The steak tips and salmon were amazing ! Haddock chowder was lacking haddock . A lot of broth . Ratio was off. Service could definitely be better as a bit slow and not alot of check ins at our table. A "pet peeve" in any restaurant is not clearing plates when finished eating . The table next to us was filled with dirty dishes and the dessert was just placed on the Tables . Clear clear clear ! Our server Colleen was great. We ordered the shrimp and calamari apps. Both were very tender and delicious. I had the blackened fish tacos and shrimp scampi. Love the tacos. Good foods and good drinks at reasonable prices! The only downside is the outdoor seating is basically in a parking lot.

So happy to see Saltwater Grille back again this spring! The parking lot has been jammed night and day and have dropped by for lunch and dinner! Saltwater has a great team, Colleen is a server and host, always has a smile and when serving she is there before you need her - she's fantastic! Jack, one of the owners is always visible, so friendly and wanting to know how things are and the chef/co-owner is there behind the scenes cooking up some great meals! LOVE they have daily specials, love that - keeps things fresh and we usually order one basic menu item and a special! Their caesar salad is a mainstay and so far have had the haddock sandwich with onion rings and baked scallops with squash - both amazing! Food and drinks are consistently good - plus know that everyone says they are here to make you happy and they really do! Tweaks never upset them...and I usually ask for one or two! The French fries looked good but were not crisp but rather limp and flavorless. The cocktails were good. The salad has way too many onion rings on top. Most of us order salad to be healthy.
