I'm from central Massachusetts and found a DIAMOND in Gloucester!!!! Don't let the lack of reviews, 10 minute drive or in land location by the rotary stop you from coming here!!! If you want great food, service and perfect cocktails come here! We came here because all other restaurants were booked and almost drove away when we got the parking lot and it was close to empty. I came with 2 other restaurant owners and myself and other friend are bartenders. Food and Service was a 10! Clean bathrooms and saw them cleaning all tables and chairs as others left. We got Margarita and a Manhattan and for my friend not to say a drink is perfect is rare, normally some type of small criticism is given! Plus my other friend never orders more than one drink and she got 2 margaritas! But she didn't finish it because she got a little tipsy! We found out the owner was the bartender! He came by at end of meal and was very pleasant and did mention his restaurant was newer, I forget the exact date they opened but the restaurant is less than 8 months in and was closed for a few months because of Covid19. Yay, Saltwater Grille is back open and better than ever! We had the Firecracker shrimp app and a fried scallop and clam combo dinner with onion rings, instead of FF's. I know what you're thinking....that's a lot of fried food. Well, I'll tell you, it's not about the fried stuff, it's all about what's in the fried stuff! EVERYTHING was tender and fresh! The scallops were cooked to perfection, melt in your mouth, with the smallest amount of breading, just enough to add flavor. The clams were so fresh and tender and the onion rings are the best in the city (in my opinion). They're thickly cut with a very light batter so you really taste the onion and not a thick breaded batter. We're soooo happy that Saltwater Grille is back in town!! Fantastic experience! I started with the salt water spritzer. It was delicious and refreshing - not too sweet. The salad was fresh and crisp. For an entree, I had the surf and turf. My partner had the steak tips, but they had a sweetness to them I couldn't identify. I didn't like them as much as the sirloin. The sirloin steak paired with the scallops was perfection, and the scallops were tender and juicy. The most memorable part was dessert. I had the pistachio ricotta cake. Don't be fooled by the exterior of this building. It is very nice on the inside, but casual enough to be comfortable just as you are. I have rarely had such friendly service in Massachusetts. The food is QUALITY. I had the seafood stew, which was a special of the day, and wow! Others in my party tried the blackened fish tacos and. We were all amazed by how generous the portions of high-quality fish were in each dish. This place will be my go-to whenever guests are in town, or whenever I'm craving a deliciously brothy seafood stew with huge chunks of whitefish, mussels, scallops, and shrimp served by a person who just makes your life a little bit better with a glowing smile and infectiously positive energy. We stopped here for a late lunch. It was not crowded and we were seated right away. Our waitress was helpful and attentive but not all up in our business. Fish tacos were great - fried haddock and a great spicy mayo type sauce. Unique. Clam chowder was good too - not too thick, but a good creamy base. Seemed like canned clams, took a star away for that. My sons hot dog looked good, a big natural casing that had been grilled on the flat top. Buttered grilled roll, that's the way to do it. We have a French exchange student, she got chicken fingers with fries. Large portions for the kids menu, so keep in mind if you have toddlers. In an area with lots of seafood this is a solid choice. SaltWater Grille is an inviting, casual, and modern restaurant with efficient service and lovely people. The tables are sturdy and the chairs are comfortable. The portions are ample with good presentation (plan to share or bring some home). This is a great place to go for seafood. The salmon, lobster, haddock, and clams are all excellent, which is of course expected of any Cape Ann restaurant - fresh and well cooked. The accompanying foods were less impressive; for example the potatoes in the clam chowder were slightly undercooked. The clam chowder itself was light, which is perfect as an appetizer. The dressing tasted bottled, not made from fresh ingredients and the french fries were bland. The layout is nice. Plenty of room at the bar and a broad selection of beers on draft. The big screen TV's behind the bar are terrific for watching sports events, but they can be distracting if you aren't interested in what is on them. There are hooks for bags and USB outlets under the bar, which is very convenient. The kids' chicken fingers have a good ratio of meat to fries and the fingers are DELICIOUS :) It would be an improvement to have activities like mazes and word searches on the kids' menu. It's very boring for kids without them. Both the men's and women's rooms could use upgrades. They were not consistent with the cleanliness of the rest of the restaurant. At Saltwater Grille you will find fresh, delicious seafood, tasteful tunes, and whimsical marine art. Overall this is a cozy and practical addition to Cape Ann's restaurant repertoire. read more

I was so glad to see this place finally reopened after the pandemic. Had dinner with my mom and she ran into several ex coworkers which was fun. Reservations are recommended. We had about a half an hour wait without one. Most of the tables are high tops and their places close together, so it was a bit of a tight squeeze. The food was delicious. The drinks looked refreshing. Overall a good experience. Next time we'll make reservations and hope to get a regular table. read more

This place is a gem! I could tell the lobster in the lobster roll was fresh, and dressed perfectly. Sweet potato fries were hot and crispy. My bf's burger was still juicy even though he tried to ruin it by ordering it medium well. We each had a fruity patio drink which was delicious and refreshing. Everything was so good, we decided to order dessert. The red velvet cake was moist and fluffy, and the coppa mascarpone was perfection. The outside patio didn't look inviting, but there were three empty tables and I figured why not. The menu had one page, simple, seafood and some side items. I was there on a mission, scallops and clam chowder. No specials, no happy waitstaff, seemed it was just a lazy summer day in New England. Fried seafood platter ordered as well as bowl of chowder. Before a blink of an eye, the chowder arrived, thin, but not super hot, I'm ok with that. Another thing no pepper (freshly cracked or shaker was to be found) Before long the platter came out, rather quickly. Cole slaw was sour tasting, it seemed to permeate the whole meal, not hot, seemed like they were waiting for us to come in and eat. Not finishing the platter as I was starved. No apology from the waitress, just a question about the taste of the fish, no manager called for (didn't ask for one) something to be said about a restaurant next to another (different cuisine) hoping if I do go next time it will be better and fresher. read more

The Salt Water Grille is NOT closed now. We just had lunch there. The pasta with seafood was delicious. There was seafood all in it, not just on the top. And the flavoring was perfect. We had a lobster roll and they were perfect. LOTS of seafood was on the penne. Perfect amount of sauce (not to much nor too little). And the garlic bread was perfection.
