I send people here when asked where to go for standard fish and chips fare and feel vindicated now that I've returned in the off season. On the negative side- the vibe is corporate- like you're eating in a hotel lobby in the Midwest. There was one piece of art that looked local and if not for that, you could have been anywhere. Not a damning criticism but also the music made me feel like I was in Ohio not Gloucester. Someone had the station on contemporary country and it was loud. Men singing about going home with drunk women with low self esteem and trying to win back custody of their kids- it's the worst vibe for me. I kept looking at the waitresses trying to determine which one I could pay to change it. If the food wasn't so good and the staff wasn't so nice I would have left. There were so few other customers compared to the other restaurants we passed by I wondered if it was because the music was the reason. There's a way to say "we are a working class hangout " without blasting music that glorifies heavy drinking and dim wits in the background. Although the soup was not very rich and somewhat underseasoned, the fish seemed fresh and was flaky and tasty.
