Avocado toast, hash, and jumbo chocolate chip pancake
Courtney F.

After driving by George's numerous times, we finally came by for breakfast and had an amazing time! George's is so welcoming and cozy, and they have a really fun and extensive menu. I was so excited to see tons of vegetarian options, too! The pancakes are an absolute must - especially if you get them loaded (they offer chocolate chip, Oreo, strawberry, etc). Great service, outstanding food - we will definitely be back!

Avocado toast

Tip: ask to sit at the bar if all tables are taken, they serve food at the bar too. The avocado toast was pretty good, eggs poached well but too much balsamic and not enough avocado. The avocado was hidden at the bottom of the toast and was more of a spread like guacamole... no slices of avocado. I'd go again but get something else. Service is great ambience is that of any other breakfast restaurant near here. It is George themed so look out for Regina George, George Clooney, George Washington on the walls.

Haddock Piccatta

Full disclosure: We are not locals, but we come to Gloucester every year. George's is one of our "must" visits. What they are not: fancy, pretentious, expensive. What they are: a solid choice with terrific food, great service, reasonably priced. The clever decor with assorted "Georges" never fails to bring a smile. Kim, the bartender, was attentive and made us feel like she was glad we were there. My husband got the baked haddock; I chose haddock picatta. Wow! And Wow! Looking forward to our trip next year!

Family and I from Chicago stopped by this local restaurant before our flight heading out of Massachusetts and this place hit the spot, as we were coming from a wedding the previous day! I had their clam chowder and it was absolutely delicious. The crab cake Benedict was flavorful and filling! Service was great and we were seated very quickly!

Excellent brunch and great service. Food was delicious, good coffee and drinks. There was a bit of a wait on a Sunday but it was worth it.

This is still the best breakfast place on Cape Ann. The omelettes are great, as are the pancakes.

I went to try Choate Bridge Pub in Ipswich with a couple of friends last week. I hadn't been for a…read morefew years. It's just as great as it always was. The food was great, fresh, and hot. Even the coleslaw and tartar sauce were made with care. The servers hustle like crazy. They treat you like good friends. Some diners may have frowned on service. Those girls never stopped, and they smiled and laughed. (Who doesn't need that these days?) It's sea scallop season, so even those scallops are expensive I had to do it. The scallop dinner w/fries and onion strings was a bit over $35, but there were 14 huge, right off the boat succulent scallops. The burgers also looked great. Get on over there.

You can tell the regulars get priority attention from the bartenders, but we eventually got taken care of too - just be prepared to be patient if it's busy and you're a new face. The food was good with very generous portions that definitely give you your money's worth. Drinks were well-made and hit the spot. We loved the setup for watching football - great views of the games from multiple angles around the bar. **Important heads-up: This is a CASH ONLY establishment.** Make sure you stop at an ATM before you arrive, or you'll be making a quick exit to find one. The vibe here is very much old-school local pub - if that's your scene, you'll love it. If you're looking for something more polished or trendy, this might not be your spot. We enjoyed the unpretentious atmosphere and will likely be back, but it's definitely worth knowing what you're walking into first. Bottom line: Come for honest pub fare, generous portions, cold drinks, and a genuine local experience. Just bring cash!

Nice pub with some great food…read more I got the Haddock Sandwich ($17 as of 5/2026) which was light and crispy. Haddock was cooked perfectly and the fries that came with it were great (I enjoyed their honey mustard which you can request on the side). We visited on Friday night and sat at a table as the bar seating was pretty packed. Crowd was pretty chill - a mixture of people in their 20's having drinks & apps, and then older couples/families enjoying dinner. We were happy to see Smithwicks on the draft menu, and we also got a Downeast cider with a caramel/cinnamon rim. We ordered the house made mozzarella sticks, which were ginormous, crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and all around delicious. We all opted with different types of burgers - sliders, fried chicken, and a pub burger. All were served with fries and were perfectly cooked. The coating on my fried chicken was crispy and flavorful. Service was awesome - our glasses were never left empty! Best of all, Dwyers has a free jukebox packed with favorites. Looking forward to coming back on our next visit to Portsmouth - we'll definitely be trying the deviled eggs, wings, and fried oreos!

On a dank spring (typical) early New England spring afternoon, we wandered in for a pre-dinner cocktail. The drinks are solid and reasonably priced. They do have a few high-end spirits and a few surprise special cocktails. There is also a good selection of local beers. We stopped by for a nightcap and were surprised that on a Wednesday night, they were packed and rocking to a live band. We arrived on a cold damp afternoon and quickly joined a few regulars at the bar. Conversations were started and the cocktails flowed. They do have some great local craft beers and a full bar with a few high end liquors like Eagle Rare and Grey Goose. My desert dry Goose martini with a twist was perfect. Plus 1 said her Paloma was perfect as well. We could have spent the entire afternoon here hangin with the regulars and getting toasty but alas we had dinner reservations. We did stop by after dinner for a nightcap and the Whale was rocking to a live band and they were packed on a Wednesday night no less. Toby Keith's "I Love This Bar" song could have easily been written for the Whale!
