i was looking for a brunch place open in gloucester on a sunday at 1pm, and george's restaurant & bar seemed to be the only place open (in winter season). i am so glad i found this place! it's on a corner after the main rotary, street parking available. lilly & other staff all provided excellent service and a warm welcome. i tried their florentine benedict with a single jumbo blueberry pancake. their florentine benedict is so scrumptious, loaded with spinach & tomato and perfectly poached eggs. the blueberry pancakes are huge and completely stuffed with blueberries. i was so pleased when i asked if they had real maple syrup, and the gentleman who served me went and got it right away. and they don't overcharge for it like most places! they also have plenty of drink options available which all sounded delicious. florentine benedict 9.5/10 blueberry pancakes 10/10 overall, the meal was absolutely delicious, clearly a hometown staple for locals, and for good reason. not only that, they're reasonably priced and i will definitely return when in the area for breakfast or brunch. ambiance: 4.8/5 food: 5/5 drinks: n/a services 5/5 george's restaurant & bar: 5/5 read more

My husband and I sat at the bar last night and Kaylee waited on us. She was so nice. She made an excellent pear martini for my husband and a margarita for me. We started with the arancini balls appetizer which were hearty and delicious. Then we shared the steak tips dinner that came with mashed potatoes and a medley of fresh vegetable, but we substituted the potatoes for onion rings. All were very yummy! Then for dessert, my husband had the apple pie with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. That too was good but he said the pie should have been served warm not cold. George's is our go-to place over the summer. Cozy diner feel, a menu with a ton of variety, and yes -- coffee in a big diner mug! While the wait can get long on the weekends especially over the summer, George's has a great wait-list app that shows you where you are in line and your estimated time to get a table. We have young kids, so try to avoid this by just going early (by 8am). The wait staff is really nice, they always bring fun sticker projects out for our kids. Tip: ask to sit at the bar if all tables are taken, they serve food at the bar too. The avocado toast was pretty good, eggs poached well but too much balsamic and not enough avocado. The avocado was hidden at the bottom of the toast and was more of a spread like guacamole... no slices of avocado. I'd go again but get something else. Full disclosure: We are not locals, but we come to Gloucester every year. George's is one of our "must" visits. What they are not: fancy, pretentious, expensive. What they are: a solid choice with terrific food, great service, reasonably priced. The clever decor with assorted "Georges" never fails to bring a smile. I think the ones that had been there for years need to get a new course on etiquette and how to carry themselves, very staunch with no manners. Had never been here, before. Heard it was good. Walked in with my elderly mother, who has to use a cane. Wait staff did not seat us right away, despite fact that there was a clean table for two, right in front of us, and seeing there was an elderly person, using a cane. Waitress took our order and brought coffee, but then the absurdly long wait for our breakfast began. After nearly 30 minutes, we had to leave, without having eaten, so we could make a doctor's appointment. Will not be returning. read more

We chose prime rib Friday for our first time here. Our timing was lucky since right after we arrived customers had to wait for a table. We had prime rib and filet mignon. Both were tremendous.
