This was our first meal as we entered Maine. We drove around looking at the cute little town and saw this on our way through to see the Lighthouse. We decided to stop in and grab lunch. I always use Yelp to see what is around and this looked like a good option. So glad we stopped! My husband had the swordfish. He said the best swordfish he had the whole trip!!! Nice large piece of fish and he said it had little too much blacking seasoning but he was it was amazing. I could not decide what I wanted because it all looked so good. It was lunch and I really wanted the Risotto. But, I didn't want anything super heavy. Glad I chose it anyway. Holy smokes was it delicious. The risotto was perfectly cooked and not too buttery. I have found Maine loooves their butter & often drown their dishes. This was perfect. The fish was amazing and I definitely over ate!! We arrived just before noon, and by 12:30 they were packed, and after sampling the fresh seafood, we could see why. My wife and I both had New England Clam Chowder - rich, thick, smooth, briny, hints of bacon, and large pieces of fresh clams. She had Thai coconut shrimp for her main, and I had their 2-lb. Steamer bowl. Both could not be fresher. Our server was friendly and thorough, but somewhat over-burdened, which resulted in a delay paying our bill...but thats the only ding I could give The Lobster. The clam chowder was delicious. Thick and creamy- loaded with bacon , potato and plentiful clams! My coconut shrimp appetizer was the size of a regular meal with at least 8 large shrimp( I forgot to count- sorry..). I expected fried shrimp but this was a bonus and delicious! The sauce was a Thai chili sauce - it was not terribly hot which was FINE for me and then topped with baked coconut and scallions. The view was wonderful overlooking the fishing vessels that deliver local seafood! Staff was attentive and helpful if anything was needed. I had a really good eating experience with the friendly service and good food. I had scallops with Parmesan fries and green beans and the most amazing crabcakes ever. It was all meat, sweet and plump and them using Jonas crab was a complete win-win! We went whale watching and then decided to have a local meal. My colleague chose this restaurant, which is probably the highest-rated on Gloucester. It was incredibly crowded on Friday night, with wait times starting at half an hour, but the food was just average. Good restaurants are rare in small towns. 1.5 lb Steamed Lobster: The lobster was very cheap, only $32 for 1.5 lbs. It was relatively fresh, with firm meat and some paste, but not particularly plump, especially the claws, which were rather empty. Halibut Risotto: The halibut meat was coarse and tough. The risotto was cooked more like porridge than a firm, undercooked texture. Clam Chowder: Extremely salty. Truffle Fries: Quite ordinary. The fries were a bit cold, and it had black truffle and Parmesan cheese, but that was just about it. Pasta Chix Caesar Pesto: A seasonal dish, served to the kids at our table. The pesto had a strong raw nutty flavor, and the pasta was overcooked; no wonder the kids didn't like it, lol. Prickly Pear Spritz: It tasted like no alcohol, and no pear aroma; it was just like a glass of berry lemonade... and it was even served in a plastic cup--so unrefined! read more

on vacation with a group of seafood lovers who really wanted to try this place - i was rightfully apprehensive since i didn't see any vegan options on their menu. i had hoped they could modify a pasta dish (by just removing the sausage/fish) but the kitchen advised they wouldn't do so because it would alter the flavor. disappointing but i was hungry so i ended up ordering a baked potato and the seasonal veggie which was corn on the cob. i did really enjoy the lavender sunset martini, though, and our server kyleigh(sp?) was very friendly and attentive. read more

My son and I decided to share the 6 lb lobster with a side of asparagus. I was doing a happy dance when it arrived. So fresh and tasty. The rest of our party ordered French onion soup, clam chowder, lobster Mac n cheese, steak tips with truffle fries, lobsters (1.5 and 2 lbs), baked haddock, pan seared halibut, smash burger and fried clams. Before making our trip to Gloucester from Bedford, I looked through Yelp at all the restaurants in Gloucester, specifically reviewing the pictures of their respective lobster rolls. I was surprised by the number of pictures from many of the restaurants that had lobster bits, resembling shredded lobster! Reviewing The Lobster, every picture of their lobster rolls showed big chunks of lobster! While looking through their pictures I came across a pic of their Lobster Cobb Salad and we knew where we were going! My wife and I arrived in between normal meal hours, and we're quickly seated. We wanted to sit on their deck; however, they have no shade umbrellas so we opted to sit inside with a view. After reviewing the menu we ordered our beverages. I ordered an iced tea while my wife ordered a Sauvignon Blanc. One of the nice things about their menu is that they actually have a market price page so you don't have to ask! I opened with a half dozen oysters for a starter before my Lobster Cobb Salad. My wife decided on their Thai coconut shrimp. Our meals came out relatively quickly and were absolutely gorgeous, huge, and delicious! They source all of their own seafood with exception of oysters, which come from a few miles away and the shrimp come from South Carolina. By the way, the shrimp are not farmed either. This place!!!!! I've been back 5 times in 3 different trips to Boston. An absolute gem!! This is the kinda place that attracts locals and tourists alike! Extremely reasonable prices, amazingly fresh seafood and delicious lobster. I chose 2 lbs of steamers to start which came out in a delicious broth, tasty crostini and a drawn butter dip. I loved it! I then ordered 2 twin chix (1.5 lb twin lobsters) which were tender, hot and mouthwatering!! The service is local, friendly and welcoming! Easy five star review... A restaurant with an unapologetic name like this really needs to deliver, and they deliver. It's right next to the water where the fishing boats bring in the fresh catch every day. You know it's a good sign when you go to order the lobster roll and it says market price.... Nice restaurant with excellent service and good food. We sat in the pub on a busy Saturday. I had lobster Mac and Chee which was very tasty, but I wish it had more lobster . The clam bellies as an appetizer were excellent. My only complaint is that the coconut shrimp appetizer was not what I'm used to. It wasn't a finger food...it came out like a baked scrod. The sauce was lacking. There was no taste of any lemon. To make things worse our server disappeared from our table until both meals were done. He did offer a to go box with most of the risotto left in my dish. I had such high hopes. If we would have received either better service or better food I would give the restaurant another chance. What a great addition to Gloucester! We love that Lobster of Gloucester benefits the local fisherman community. There is a lot of seating inside, the wait staff is very friendly, and the food can't be beat. The prices here are just amazing - if I remember correctly, $20 for lobsters (totally fresh) which I don't think you can get anywhere else. They also have some fun merch - I got my husband a rash guard in the front of the store. When family from out of town has come to Gloucester to visit us, we will frequently take them to this restaurant. We also got our neighbors a gift card as a thank you to this place. Worth visiting if you're in the area for some fresh catch. Easy parking too. read more

Visited the Lobster of Gloucester restaurant last night. There were four of us. My cousin and his girlfriend (who had been before) and my spouse and I (first timers). Loved the decor and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Drinks: a Pain Killer, an Old Fashioned and a Cocoaberry Mohito. They went down easily and another round was ordered and enjoyed. Dinner: My cousin ordered the surf and turf (1st picture), his girlfriend had the Tomatillo Chimichurri Ribeye Steak (2nd picture) and my spouse and I split the Fisherman's Platter (3rd picture). The steaks were 'delicious' and cooked to order perfectly. My wife and i thought we would be able to polish off the Lobstermen's Platter but we were mistaken. There was just too much lightly battered and perfectly fried seafood on that platter. There was (all fried) lobster, scallops, shrimp, calamari, clams and haddock (served on a bed of French fries). We gave it our best shot but came up short (4th picture). I would definitely go back to this restaurant and I'd recommend them to anyone that loves good, quality, fresh seafood. read more

Was a little apprehensive at first because it's described more like a salad than your typical surf and turf. The waitress explained that it is pork belly that has been oven braised, grilled and pan seared along with scallops.
