on vacation with a group of seafood lovers who really wanted to try this place - i was rightfully apprehensive since i didn't see any vegan options on their menu. i had hoped they could modify a pasta dish (by just removing the sausage/fish) but the kitchen advised they wouldn't do so because it would alter the flavor. disappointing but i was hungry so i ended up ordering a baked potato and the seasonal veggie which was corn on the cob. i did really enjoy the lavender sunset martini, though, and our server kyleigh(sp?) was very friendly and attentive. read more

We went whale watching and then decided to have a local meal. My colleague chose this restaurant, which is probably the highest-rated on Gloucester. It was incredibly crowded on Friday night, with wait times starting at half an hour, but the food was just average. Good restaurants are rare in small towns. 1.5 lb Steamed Lobster: The lobster was very cheap, only $32 for 1.5 lbs. It was relatively fresh, with firm meat and some paste, but not particularly plump, especially the claws, which were rather empty. Halibut Risotto: The halibut meat was coarse and tough. The risotto was cooked more like porridge than a firm, undercooked texture. Clam Chowder: Extremely salty. Truffle Fries: Quite ordinary. The fries were a bit cold, and it had black truffle and Parmesan cheese, but that was just about it. Pasta Chix Caesar Pesto: A seasonal dish, served to the kids at our table. The pesto had a strong raw nutty flavor, and the pasta was overcooked; no wonder the kids didn't like it, lol. Prickly Pear Spritz: It tasted like no alcohol, and no pear aroma; it was just like a glass of berry lemonade... and it was even served in a plastic cup--so unrefined! read more

Before making our trip to Gloucester from Bedford, I looked through Yelp at all the restaurants in Gloucester, specifically reviewing the pictures of their respective lobster rolls. I was surprised by the number of pictures from many of the restaurants that had lobster bits, resembling shredded lobster! Reviewing The Lobster, every picture of their lobster rolls showed big chunks of lobster! While looking through their pictures I came across a pic of their Lobster Cobb Salad and we knew where we were going! My wife and I arrived in between normal meal hours, and we're quickly seated. We wanted to sit on their deck; however, they have no shade umbrellas so we opted to sit inside with a view. After reviewing the menu we ordered our beverages. I ordered an iced tea while my wife ordered a Sauvignon Blanc. One of the nice things about their menu is that they actually have a market price page so you don't have to ask! I opened with a half dozen oysters for a starter before my Lobster Cobb Salad. My wife decided on their Thai coconut shrimp. Our meals came out relatively quickly and were absolutely gorgeous, huge, and delicious! They source all of their own seafood with exception of oysters, which come from a few miles away and the shrimp come from South Carolina. By the way, the shrimp are not farmed either. If you're looking for the real deal, this is the spot to visit! read more

Easy five star review... A restaurant with an unapologetic name like this really needs to deliver, and they deliver. It's right next to the water where the fishing boats bring in the fresh catch every day. You know it's a good sign when you go to order the lobster roll and it says market price.... I especially love that you had the option of getting it without mayonnaise so you could just concentrate on delicious drawn butter as the compliment. Do yourself a favor and grab this. read more

Before heading back home to MD, my husband and I decided to take his mom, his aunt, 2 brothers and their families out for dinner tonight at The Lobster of Gloucester. Highly recommended local spot. We had reservations since we are a big group. We waited for about 5 minutes at the bar since they were cleaning our table. Our server was very friendly. My son and I decided to share the 6 lb lobster with a side of asparagus. I was doing a happy dance when it arrived. So fresh and tasty. The rest of our party ordered French onion soup, clam chowder, lobster Mac n cheese, steak tips with truffle fries, lobsters (1.5 and 2 lbs), baked haddock, pan seared halibut, smash burger and fried clams. Came here with the whole family (3 kids ages 7, 10, 12 + my mom) after a morning whale watch. There was something for everyone which was great since my husband doesn't prefer seafood but many of us do. We were lucky enough to be sat at a window seat near the back with a view of the harbor. Our table had the swordfish, bacon cheeseburger, lobster BLT, kids Mac & cheese, kids burger and kids pasta. Everything was well portioned and looked great. I had the lobster BLT and it was full of lobster, tasted great and would get again. We did spy a fish sandwich and it was huge! Nice restaurant with excellent service and good food. We sat in the pub on a busy Saturday. I had lobster Mac and Chee which was very tasty, but I wish it had more lobster . The Manager was super friendly, my husband was asking where some of the boats are that are featured on Wicked tuna and she was happy to give him directions to see some of the boats even called one of the boat captains to see if his boat was at the dock. What a great addition to Gloucester! We love that Lobster of Gloucester benefits the local fisherman community. There is a lot of seating inside, the wait staff is very friendly, and the food can't be beat. The prices here are just amazing - if I remember correctly, $20 for lobsters (totally fresh) which I don't think you can get anywhere else. They also have some fun merch - I got my husband a rash guard in the front of the store. When family from out of town has come to Gloucester to visit us, we will frequently take them to this restaurant. We also got our neighbors a gift card as a thank you to this place. Visited the Lobster of Gloucester restaurant last night. There were four of us. My cousin and his girlfriend (who had been before) and my spouse and I (first timers). Loved the decor and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Drinks: a Pain Killer, an Old Fashioned and a Cocoaberry Mohito. They went down easily and another round was ordered and enjoyed. Dinner: My cousin ordered the surf and turf (1st picture), his girlfriend had the Tomatillo Chimichurri Ribeye Steak (2nd picture) and my spouse and I split the Fisherman's Platter (3rd picture). The steaks were 'delicious' and cooked to order perfectly. My wife and i thought we would be able to polish off the Lobstermen's Platter but we were mistaken. There was just too much lightly battered and perfectly fried seafood on that platter. There was (all fried) lobster, scallops, shrimp, calamari, clams and haddock (served on a bed of French fries). We gave it our best shot but came up short (4th picture). I would definitely go back to this restaurant and I'd recommend them to anyone that loves good, quality, fresh seafood. read more

Was a little apprehensive at first because it's described more like a salad than your typical surf and turf. The waitress explained that it is pork belly that has been oven braised, grilled and pan seared along with scallops. Unfortunetly things seem to be going downhill fast with both the bar and kitchen lately which was not the case when the restaurant first opened. The mixed drinks are watered down and the fried food is greasy and soggy and the wait staff which is seasonal and forgetful at times over and over again. The freshness of the seafood is undeniable but the execution of serving it is disappointing and the prices are out of line considering that the owners buy seafood off the boats with no middleman involved. Weird and disappointing lunch at The Lobster in Gloucester. I have always had good luck with their takeout but my spouse and I will never go back to eat in the restaurant. First, there was some confusion about whether there was a 25-minute wait, but that worked out because they were able to seat us right away, ok, fine. It took about an hour for the waiter to take our food order. Then, it turned out there were no baked potatoes, ok, fine. Then, we somehow got three orders of french fries, which is A LOT of french fries. No concession on the bill for either the wait or the extra order of french fries.
