But it's been a while since I've been this disappointed in a restaurant. I'm not talking about the parking (it's small) or the decor of the place or even the service. I'm strictly talking about the food. The good thing about the food was that it was hot, and I mean so hot that I was afraid it was going to melt the take-out containers they packed it in. Also, the serving sizes are large, and in the case of the Seafood Marinara pasta dish, they give you two full large plastic containers for a single order. The fish chowder and clam chowder were definitely full of seafood, but they were underseasoned. I guess if you were to eat them concurrently with really salty food, then they'd be perfect. But I ate them before the rest of the meal, and by themselves, the chowders' taste is a bit lacking. But the real shock was the pasta. I ordered the two most expensive pasta dishes on the menu: Seafood Marinara and Shrimp Scampi. The amount of seafood on the plates was admirable, but a lot of it tasted generic. And the pasta definitely tasted like it was pre-made. The killer was the lack of seasoning in both dishes. I can understand if one of the dishes was underseasoned because mistakes happen. But when both pasta dishes were as bland as these two dishes were, well, you have to worry about the standards. Just to be sure, I waited a few hours until the dishes had cooled down, and I tried them again. It's easier for me to taste the seasoning when the food temp is lower at around 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Both pasta dishes were pretty much tasteless. I even had a friend of mine who has an excellent palate try everything, and she literally asked me if I specifically ordered the food to be cooked without seasoning. I wouldn't have been so surprised if I had gone into a place that had average reviews, but The Causeway has a great reputation. I guess if I go back, I'll have to try their fried seafood (e.g. the Peters Platter). But the problem is do I really want to go in there and spend about $30 per dish after my experience with their pasta dishes? I hate writing a negative review about a family restaurant, but inflation being what it is, people are going to be choosier about where to spend their money, and restaurants have to make sure that their food is on point to justify the high prices.

My hot in-shell boiled lobster arrived several minutes after, pre-cracked. Carefully poured out the green water, and I went at it. Making use of the sink by the bathroom afterwards to get cleaned up. A delicious way to start our outing to Rockport! BTW parking in the nearby area is paid and seasonal. We shared a salad to start and for entrees I ordered their Scallops which were cooked to perfection but the sauce they were in was a bit much. My husband had their burger which was also good. Service wasn't great or attentive and since it was my husband's birthday you would think they would do something nice for him but they didn't. We did have a nice table on the water but that was all. We ended up going someplace else for dessert but we did enjoy our dinner with a view!
