I ate there yesterday. Ambiance is terrific. Food was less than average. I remembered a great meal from years past. Yesterday's meal was terrible. I ordered the baked scallops. The scallops had an unbelievable amount of side muscle, almost every one. I had to inspect everyone carefully for fear of choking, I have dysphagia and choking will cause a cause a medical emergency. If the heimlich metod is used it would not work because it's not a windpipe problem. 20% of adults over 55 could have this problem. I spoke with the manager explained the excessive muscle issue, dyphargia. The muscles should have been trimmed in the kitchen before cooking, as all restaurants. Her responce was no has ever reported a muscle issue but she did the large amount that was in the plate returned to the kitchen. Shehad never heard of dysphargia. Basically she thought I was lying. Then she offered a small deduction from the bill. I accepted the deduction but was totally disgusted that most of my time was spent inspecting my meal instead of enjoying it. It also limited the time that I could have enjoyed the beautiful view. I gave it a two because of the view. Will NEVER go there again. read more

I've learned to be skeptical of questionable reviews. I was unable to get a reservation as we got to Rockport so late. That said, we took a chance and boy am I glad we did! Got lucky to get a booth in this bustling place! First of all the waitress (Buffy) was phenomenal. Second, the food DELICIOUS. We had the blackened/grilled fresh haddock and salmon with rice and yummy beets. They even brought fresh rolls! Drinks were excellent as was the wine. Everyone here works very hard to ensure that you are well taken care of and that you enjoy your dining experience. The food here is really good. We stopped in a few days ago for lunch. We started with some yummy Chowder. It was quite good and very creamy. We had Crab Cakes for lunch and enjoyed them too. I must mention the view here which is absolutely breathtaking and very relaxing. It was our first time at Brackett's but not our last if in the area again. Service was warm and friendly and prices are quite reasonable. We really enjoyed our time here. It is nice to dine at a place that offers stunning views but can also back that up with great food. Came to Brackett's for a late lunch without a reservation. This restaurant has such a beautiful view facing the ocean, that alone made this restaurant very special. They started us with some butter and got bread. I got the fried fish sandwich with Rye bread which I found to be quite delicious for a reasonable price. It also also came with fries. We also got the crab cakes with fries and peas which was recommended but found to be fairly average. The food is average but the view makes the experience special read more

I've read some of the mixed reviews on Brackett's, but I have to say we had a terrific experience here yesterday. No issues at all with the service or food. And yes, the scenery of the harbor from the back dining room is amazing. We didn't have a ton of time, as our bus for Gloucester whale watching was leaving in 45 minutes, but we did have plenty of time to have a nice lunch. We started with a complimentary basket of fresh baked rolls that were great, and it was a perfect accompaniment for my lunch. I ordered a bowl of Spicy Fisherman's stew and it was stellar! Chock full of fish and mussels, in a thick spicy and flavorful tomato based soup. For $8 it was a great value and a great dish. Our party also ordered an arugula and a spinach salad. I was so looking forward to our dinner. Only reservation we could get was 5pm. A bit early but hadn't had lunch so was actually starving . I had seen online the special - Lobster pie and was really looking forward to this dish. Arrived a few minutes before our time but got seated. Amazing view of the water. Masks worn to the table. All wait staff masked. Ordered a Pomegranate Spritz yummy and not sweet (which I love - can't stand sweet cocktails). The Lobster pie - lobster cooked in a sherry, cream and butter sauce topped with crumbs and baked. Came with a choice of two sides, I choose fries and broccolini. Cost of this pie $35 and I'm sorry to say not worth the money. The sherry overpowered the lobster and the sauce was watery not creamy at all. Crumb topping did not work for me either. In my opinion mashed potatoes, a creamy sauce and less sherry. The potatoes would mop up sauce. The broccolini cooked well, al dente but too thick and stem hard and dense. Fish cakes were stodgy, not enough fish and to thick. Fresh scrod was well cooked, a nice dish. Overall food disappointing and too expensive. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because the view was spectacular. read more

Should you find yourself in Rockport with your parents or anyone over the age of 50, Brackett's is your go-to place for classic waterfront dining. The decor is kind of early 80s and so is the menu. Seafood dominates of course. I got the lobster casserole - a sizable portion of fresh lobster swimming in a dish of cream sherry sauce topped with butter breadcrumbs. The kind of thing my grandpa would have swooned over on our family vacations. With the entree, you get the old "choice of two sides plus a house salad." You can probably imagine, but in case you aren't familiar with this phrasing... You get choice of potato plus a boiled veggie of some sort. Pre-meal you are treated to a mini-pile of iceburg topped with two cherry tomatoes and a sliver of red onion. I'm not sure, but I think that "choice of two sides plus a house salad" is why my parents still hate vegetables to this day. I used to waitress at Brackett's-like restaurants in Maryland. They aren't bad. The seafood is consistently buttery, rich, and a little bland. The service is usually awesome. Old-school waitresses in tea-length skirts and teen busboys in ties. The view is great, especially if you hit it at sunset. There arent too many sit down dining options in Rockport. Brackett's provides that much needed "by the ocean" vacation feeling. I was in Rockport for the first time and decided to have dinner at Brackett's. When you walk into the main seating area, the first thing that hits you is the fabulous view. All the tables by the large window were taken but we still had a nice view of the beautiful ocean. Our service was fantastic. The waitress serving us was VERY attentive, helpful, and friendly. I decided to order the Scallop Casserole and Chowder. My dad ordered the Lobster Roll. The food came out pretty quickly even though they were quite busy. The Chowder came out first and it was decent. It wasn't as chunky as I would like but it was still good. My Scallop Casserole was DELICIOUS, however! There were seven or eight small scallops baked in a butter and win sauce with flavorful crumbs on top. It came with beets and mashed potatoes which were also AMAZING. I really enjoyed it. My dad's Lobster Roll was packed with fresh lobster and tasted great! Overall the food and the service were perfect, but the view just topped it all off for us! read more

Wow - Brackett's has really upped its game when we weren't looking! We're local, and stopped in for dinner on a whim because our "go to" place had a long wait. And we were SO glad we did! No wait, a perfect table with an amazing sunset view, and outstanding service but the best part was the food! We chose mostly fried, and the clams and oysters were excellent, but the salad topped with fish was excellent as well. Even the drinks (cocktails and wine) were as good as it gets. The server we had was quite demeaning and talked down us. We were in Rockport at probably the busiest time of year - July 4th week! That being said, this restaurant and many others do not take reservations, so its dicey when you go if you can get a table or not. We had read good reviews and gave it a try. We arrived for dinner around 5:30 pm July 2nd and didn't have too long of a wait...The young hostess was very frazzled and the older woman said under her breath, don't seat anyone else after this couple. We were seated in the high booths before you enter the main dining room (with the ocean views). There was a very large party of 18 people seated just after us in the main room. We didn't mind - there's ocean views all around us all day long! Our server Abigail was friendly. Took our drink orders, my pink lemonade cocktail hit the spot. The caesar salad was fresh, cold and crisp. My Mates Combo: Bakes Scrod and Scallops, fresh scrod and native sea scallops lightly crumbed and baked with butter and wine was delish. My hubs had the Tarragon Salmon special and said it was great. We will definitely go back at another time of year to enjoy the view and food again. read more

We ordered the blackened schrod salad and the mussels and both were really quite excellent. Highly recommend this place. My girlfriend and I arrived in Rockport. We parked at our lodging, walked along the beach, and then looked for a place to eat. We saw Brackett's which had a lobster casserole. My girlfriend was excited. We went inside. We were promptly seated, my girlfriend decided to have the crab casserole instead. She asked me what I would like to eat. I said the lasagna. I might as well have said that I like to eat babies. If you're going to visit Rockport, you should eat some seafood even if you're a landlubber like me. Brackett's is a nice little restaurant with a good view of the ocean. The service is efficient and complete though I do believe that the owner's kids were the busboys and they probably weren't legal working age. However, they did keep my water glass filled and, in the scheme of things, that's more important than child labor laws. The crab dishes are delicious as well as the clam chowder. The soda isn't bottomless though so expect to pay for your refills. And when your only vice is the fact that you have an IV of diet soda attached to your veins 24 hours a day, that little soda faux pas makes little stynxno sad. read more

Don't expect to find restaurants that are open late, but check out this wonderful little gem of a restaurant called Brackett's Oceanview. True to their name Brackett's has a wonderful view of the Atlantic and Rockport harbor. Their staff was friendly, their facility clean and their menu simple let satisfying. Their menu offering consists primarily of Americanized seafood dishes, though that is not all that is offered. My companion and I enjoyed baked scallops and lobster ravioli. read more

Very nice view of the ocean from every table. Seared scallops were good and an ample portion ($20). Asparagus was overcooked, a bit mushy. Strawberry shortcake was very good. Thankfully, there were a couple of local beers. We had Harpoon I.P.A & Frosty Knuckle (brewed in the neighboring town of Gloucester). However, the waitress never asked if we wanted another beer. Decor reminded me of a cafeteria - cross between Picadilly & a nursing home. Luckily the expansive ocean view made up for the floral-print curtains and suspended, somewhat caving in ceiling. Quite a shame since the place is closed for winter till the 2nd wk of April - seems they had lots of time to spruce it up a bit. Music would have been nice. Saw speakers - but I guess they don't play anything during lunch. Considering there are very few places to dine in Rockport, I've still got to give it 3 stars. read more

What a sad story. As I've said before, I've been visiting Rockport every summer for as long as I can remember. This used to be mine and my family's favorite restaurant. We'd go every year. It was classy, had a great view, and had something for all of us. About eight years ago I started to notice it was going down hill. I thought I might just be spoiled by all the NYC restaurants I was eating at now that I moved to the city. Over the next few years I realized it wasn't me, it was them. While visiting Rockport last weekend my fiancé and I stopped into Brackett's around 4pm for a quick bite to eat. This quick bite turned into a dinner and overall I would rate this establishment a 3.5-4.0. The view was amazing, our server (Kerry I believe) was quick, attentive and pleasant. The sirloin was as expected for the price point and overall pretty good. My fiancé had the haddock which she said was delicious and flavorful. In addition the strawberry lemonade cocktail was a nice accompaniment on a sunny day. If I am in the Rockport area again I would definitely consider stopping in here again. The view is great, the people are nice, and the food is OK. It's a little on the pricey side for the quality, but without many options for sit-down comfortable dining, the prices aren't bad. I arrived about mid-afternoon and was promptly seated right next to their main windows. The view of Back Harbor is great, particularly on a sunny day. I had a filet of fish that was tasty, but not exciting. I had broccoli and fries as my side. The broccoli was slighty crunchy, just how I like it. The fries where extra crispy without being burnt; also good. The portions where on the small side by today's standards, but I actually appreciate that. The atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable in the main dining room, though other areas may need a bit of remodelling work. Overall, this was an enjoyable experience. I will likely come back the next time I'm in Rockport. read more

I have eaten here several times and can say without hesitation they are outstanding for traditional seafood fare. The crab casserole in particular is flavorful, tender, and crisp. The Bracketts family runs this place and their personal charm and commitment is evident in every aspect of the appointments, the wait staff who are helpful and patient. So we come here a lot now when we're back to visit friends and family. Maybe our visit a few years ago was a blip but things are really good now and consistently good. We like to try different things and frankly, we haven't been disappointed. Los touristas are sometimes a bit nasty to the wait staff but that's been par for the course for decades and the waitresses handle it very well. Warm rolls and cornbread before dinner.
