This afternoon, I took my wife , for her birthday to Seabutter on Brand. It was the best sushi I have had in a long time. The yellowtail is off the charts, the rolls we ordered were perfection, the sweet shrimp was excellent, crispy rice with spicy yellowtail was delicious. I also need to say that the service by Bo was A #1 ! There was also a Gentleman there by the name Alberto who oversaw everything. He was charming and a fabulous conversationalist. He made sure we enjoyed everything and he sincerely cared about our opinions. We are definitely coming back soon. There's parking behind the restaurant . We decided to park across the street at the Americana so we could do a little shopping after lunch and see the Christmas decorations. We went here for dinner on Valentines Day. The food was delicious. The miso sea bass was amazing! The issue we had was with the service. We ordered appetizers including miso soup. We were told the sea bass would take 30 minutes which was why we ordered appetizers. The sea bass showed up in about 20 minutes and was there before the soup and salad. We asked several times about the appetizers but the staff did not seem concerned at all. Tables around us kept getting their food in a logical order. The sushi showed up about 3 minutes later so we had food crammed on our table at all different temperatures. We eat sushi often and are aware that it comes as it gets done but getting the main before the appetizers made our meal difficult to eat. In addition, I never got my water refilled despite asking. Again, the food was wonderful but the lack of proper service made it difficult to enjoy our meal. read more

I'm going to start with the service for the first time, the service alone I gave it 5 stars! Our server Marcus was exceptional, we had a really big group that included 3 kids and a new born and he was so nice and positive from start to finish. Typically a big group like this with kids and everyone being disorganized and not paying attention would irritate any server, totally thought he would be faking his 'niceness', but he was so genuine, he was awesome. Their staff were all hands on and everyone was great, but Marcus definitely stood out. This location was much bigger than I anticipated, great if you have a big group or even if it's just the two of you. Very casual, and great location right across from the Americana. Now to the food, I did not focus too much on the food with everything going on around us, but everything I tried was great! I had a little bit of everything, it wasn't my absolute favorite sushi in La but it was better than most. I will definitely come back again. This was much better than their handroll bar in studio city. I really liked the pressed tuna, has a great Smokey/char finish, and also really liked the hot night roll. Those I would definitely order again. The tuna explosion was a bit underwhelming, but it's still good. read more

We dropped into Seabutter for a late lunch on a Sunday. We go lucky and found parking in the back, else we would had to park in one of the neighboring lots. I dropped off my partner and then found parking on my own. When I tried to use the back door of the restaurant, I found it locked and walked thru Phil's Coffee to get to the front (sorry Phil's!). My partner however said when he tried the door, it was open. So FYI. The food and service were both top notch. We enjoyed our food and the calm ambiance of the restaurant. We got 1 sashimi style order which was very fresh and 2 rolls (as that's my partner's' preference). I would dine at Seabutter again when I'm in the mood for sashimi. If I'm mainly ordering rolls, I'd likely go elsewhere as despite their rolls being good; I find that the rice and other items in and on top of rolls really mask the fish's quality within. As such, roll style sushi can be gotten elsewhere for less (if you're being budget conscious) and taste about the same. Just my opinion. I'll happily pay for quality sashimi though. read more

If I could give this place more stars I would. I walked in and was greeted by their host and a waiter. Every staff member is really friendly and I love the ambiance in here. It's very beautiful inside, there's a sushi bar you can sit at and a bunch of beautiful white tables to sit at. Now the food, there's a lot I can say on the sushi but one thing I do want to highlight is the quality of fish. Usually I don't like thick cut pieces but their yellowtail is insane, I love the pressed sushi as well as the chicken teriyaki! You guys SO close to me, you're officially my local sushi spot! First time here, we chose Seabutter randomly while at Americana at Brand shopping area. It was an anniversary dinner for my brother and sister-in-law. The restaurant recently opened in Glendale and the space they are in is on the smaller side, but light and airy. They call their food modern sushi and they do have some unique items on the menu. We shared an order of the garlic edamame and ordered a rainbow roll (made with blue crab vs dungeness), daddy long legs (soft shell crab), the hottie (low carb) and pressed toro (think a layered roll cut into rectangles). The Wasabi served seemed to be freshly ground based on texture, but I didn't confirm that. The food was tasty, although my brother said he prefers dungeness in his rainbow rolls. I throughly enjoyed the items I tasted, including the rainbow. Everything was super fresh. Only three minor things keep this from 5 stars, our main waiter seemed a bit aloof and distracted, but that could have been due to how many tables he was managing. The support team was attentive and friendly. The cute, but super messy soy sauce pot (I understand they are replacing them) and lastly, there was no acknowledgement of the special day we were celebrating, even though I mentioned it when we were seated. One of my favorite sushi spots in Glendale! They serve your food super quick and always provide a free small ceviche app, which is delicious. Their nigiris are small but soft and delicious. Top notch service! I've never had so many different hosts/servers come by to check on our table at a restaurant before. Didn't think that was absolutely necessary but thank you for your care and attentiveness. Also love that they brought out a kids' water cup without us having to ask. The marinated carrot in that roll brings back happy memories of eating at traditional sushi spots on the westside. Gyoza was deep fried very well. Typically I hate it when gyoza is deep fried because it's usually too thick and too crispy/hard but theirs is expertly prepared, maybe their gyoza skin is thinner? It was just so light and airy, I really enjoyed it! The pressed roll had a fun presentation and a nice seared flavor but I barely tasted the truffle in the salt/paste topping. Also, I think if fresh pineapple was added to their chicken teriyaki rather than a canned looking version, it would really elevate that dish. But overall those plates tasted good. My son loved their version of the dragon roll. Difference with most establishments is that they use salmon tempura rather than shrimp tempura. Honestly I feel that the salmon overpowers the roll a bit and would prefer shrimp tempura but I'm sure anyone who loves salmon, like my son, will also really enjoy it. At the end of my meal there was a sweet thank you note attached to my to go bag! 9/8/24 .., located next to Phil'z coffee on the corner of Colorado & Brand, we chose to have dinner here on a Sunday evening (2 days ago) . Looking to get our sushi fix, my girlfriend & I chose this spot for it looked highly recommended. There is parking behind the restaurant & is metered hourly. Upon entry the ambiance was nice, clean, & modern. Having no reservations, even though the restaurant wasn't packed at 6pm we decided to sit at the bar to avoid a wait. Service was friendly, and after we ordered our starters consisting of edamame & 2 orders of Crispy Rice (2 pcs. per order) the place eventually became busy. Our server was friendly but soon forgot about us after we received our appetizers. We ate them slowly hoping he'd return so we could order our entrees without having a huge gap between meals but given they were only 2 pcs. per order they were done within minutes. My only critique with the Crispy Rice rolls is that the rice isn't fried on all sides of its square base which makes grabbing it from the side with chopsticks a hit or miss for it can fall apart if grabbed by the uncooked side. Other than that the flavor was awesome. Due to a previous review, someone had mentioned a sushi chef reprimanding her for using soy sauce & wassabe on his sushi creations. But during our experience while seated at the bar the sushi chefs kept to themselves & hustled throughout the busy dinner service. Only downer about sitting at the bar was the constant reaching over, under & around you by the servers as they got their orders. If you value your personal space then the bar isn't for you lol. After our main server passed us multiple times avoiding eye contact? I was able to get his attention as he was walking with another patron's order. He apologized multiple times and his attentiveness improved. His recommendation of the Hye was appreciated, for that was indeed delicious. We also ordered the Mr. Crab & that was also enjoyed with its generous morsels of baked lobster on top. I understand the nature of the sushi bar environment but 2 of the servers would not say excuse me or anything when grabbing a plate and grazing my head or shoulder with their elbow as they got their orders. One female server would always reach under my girlfriend's arm as she was eating to grab an empty plate without saying a word which made it uncomfortable for her. Towards the end of our meal, another female server reached over my girlfriend's head to grab a roll & a flower garnish fell off and into my girlfriend's water. All she said was oops sorry and walked away without offering a new glass? Other than that the other servers were great and checked on us when our main server was absent. There are so many sushi places in Glendale, but Seabutter steps it up a notch. It's modern, clean, and offers some of the freshest fusion-esque sushi without breaking the bank. They have a good variety on their menu - sushi, sashimi, rolls, a few hot items, handrolls, and to my surprise pressed sushi! I don't see this often, so this was a nice surprise. Their nigiris, Pressed sushi, and "Sushi Style" portion of their menu are my favorite so far, and the way they prepare their fish is literally like butter. I've tried their omakase select, which is a good variety, and highlights all the best flavors Seabutter offers. This was our third visit to this SeaButter location, and we keep coming back for a reason! While we're personally not the biggest fans of the hand rolls, the seaweed can be a bit tougher compared to other popular hand roll spots nearby, the quality of their sushi, sashimi, and rolls more than makes up for it. We tried the 911 Roll for the first time, flavorful, but we still much prefer their nigiri and sashimi options. Our absolute favorite has to be the Golden Eye Snapper (Kinmedai), it's packed with flavor and melts in your mouth. Another standout is the Salmon Medley, we also swore it was our favorite thing on the menu. The variety and balance of flavors in that dish are exceptional. To make the experience even better, one of the chefs surprised us with a complimentary ceviche, such a kind gesture and a great way to round out the meal. Oh no, I really wanted to like this place! It started off with so much promise and really devolved after an unfortunate situation with one of the dishes. It was a pressed tail that was made incorrectly- they loaded the bottom with too much rice and allowed it to get wet. By the time it arrived to us from the kitchen to eat it, the roll had collapsed. My wife tried to send it back and the manager brought back spoons to help the crumbled stacks and took it too personal for such a simple ask (there clearly were major issues with the dish). After that our server disappeared and we weren't able to order anything else, nor get a timely check. I'm really hoping this is just a one off, the chicken teriyaki seemed normal, and the wait was minimal so the service is usually good around 5pm. First, let me say that the sushi at Seabutter is first rate. Wonderful fish, Fresh and Delicious. So why only a single star? I had a very unsatisfying exchange with a woman who identifies herself as "Director of Marketing." The friendly staff at Seabutter in Glendale (THEY are great!) told me to email letstalkseabuttsersushi and any issues would be handled. Well, Tammy responded , but the issue was handled quite poorly and unprofessionally. Here's what happened: I ordered sushi for take out directly on the Seabutter website. I did that because I don't like dealing with third-party delivery brokers like Grubhub and DoorDash. I prefer to deal directly with the restaurant so I can have any problems handled by the original vendor (in this case, Seabutter in Glendale.).I ordered some sushi, including what was advertised on the menu as "King Salmon Sushi." The menu indicated it was fish on rice. Period. Like a normal nigiri salmon sushi. When I got home and started to eat my salmon sushi, I was assaulted by a noxious odor from the fish. Was it bad? Actually, no. The fish was apparently OK. BUT, it was soaked with truffle oil! Many people like truffle oil, but many (like me) are sickened by it. Truffle Oil is an acquired taste, and should never be automatically added to a food item if a customer has not asked for it or has not been made aware that it will be part of the standard preparation, even if it is not indicated on the menu. Naturally, I called Seabutter in Glendale and asked for the offending item to be credited back to me. It is very unfair to not warn a customer that he is getting a truffle oil soaked piece of fish. I was told it should not be a problem, and that by contacting letstalkseabuttersushi I will be refunded my money. Unfortunately, Tammy was the one who answered my email. With no apologies or concern, she said I had to call Dootdash. I told her I ordered directly from the Seabutter website in order to NOT have to deal with DoorDash. Tammy told me that DoorDash is the third-party broker that services their website (this fact is not disclosed on the website.) Over several emails back and forth, Tammy was rude, very corporate, and completely uncaring. In fact, when I appealed to her humanity by telling her that the menu never mentioned truffle oil, she actually told me that I should have ASKED for no topping on my sushi.! Who would EVER suspect that "King Salmon Sushi, fish and rice" would have a topping, particularly a controversial one like truffle oil? (The menu needs to be changed, or staff needs to warn customers...but that's for Seabutter to deal with.). My reason for giving one star to a very good sushi restaurant lies with the way Tammy in Marketing rudely treated a good and consistent customer with such low regard and such a protective corporate style. It's a very bad look, and so unhelpful. Yelp ratings have many facets to them...a five-star food rating minus a poor rating for customer service results in a single star. So Seabutter: please fix the misleading menu entry, train your staff to make customers aware of peculiar toppings being added without the customer's knowledge, and try to get your marketing dept. to have empathy, a desire to perform true customer service, and to basically behave decently and with concern for the customer. I am not contacting DoorDash. If Tammy (or her superior) wishes to issue me a credit, I will accept it. But assuming that won't happen, I will eat the cost...but I won't eat a piece of salmon nigiri covered in truffle oil. read more

I want to start by saying that my sister and I are originally from Hawaii. Although we don't live there anymore, I still live in a state that is known for fresh seafood. And my sister married a chef who is also Japanese. During my recent visit to CA, my sister and I chose sushi for our first meal. Seabutter was in close proximity to our hotel and only required a short walk (like short, short, kitty corner to our hotel). It was just after lunch on a Friday afternoon, so the restaurant was pretty empty. There were servers and wait staff who were trying to find ways to keep busy and prep for the dinner crowd. We were greeted and seated quickly. We probably had about seven staff members ask us if we needed anything, if we were ready, if we wanted anything other than water, if we had been there before, and if we had any questions. It was a little overkill with service at the moment, but again, they were all trying to find something to do. Anyhow, we ordered the shrimp & veggie tempura, a sunset roll, and a salmon avo, as recommended by the wait staff taking our order. Everything was excellent. The chef even gave everyone (only maybe four parties in the establishment) a small serving of ceviche to taste. After all of our food was served, the staff didn't bother us much, only checking in if we needed more water or tea. We stayed a while, chatting and savoring our hot tea while contemplating ordering more, but we didn't. On Sunday, before our scheduled event, we went back for sushi. The restaurant was fuller this time, but we didn't have to wait for a table or service. We ordered a soft shell crab, U.S.C, dragon, and kanpachi yuzu. We could have eaten more, but had some walking to do and a four hour sitting event to attend. Both times, everything that should have been crispy was. And everything that was should have been buttery was. Everything was pleasantly fresh and melted in our mouths. We would have had this for dinner that night, but it was closed by the time we walked back that way. If we're ever in the area, we know where to go! read more

I can't remember his name but he has a man bun, it was probably the best customer service I've received in LA. The food was delicious as well.
