Good price for a decent place. Outdated and desperately needs updated but clean. nice suite with a full kitchen and two separate bedrooms each with own full bathrooms and king beds. Plus there's a dining area and living room. Nice full balcony outback with a great view of the ocean. Wonderful breeze out the front but none of the windows worked to let the air in from the front. Only one of the elevators work. Some of the lights don't work. The living room TV has gone bad and often displays the programming as a negative image or mostly green in color. Side of the refrigerator has good amount of rust. The icemaker didn't work. The showers had decent water pressure and they have nice soap products. The food at the restaurant was good. The crabcake was good portion and tasty and the vegetable medley had excellent flavor. I was overcharged when I arrived for what my confirmation said. Hopefully that has been straightened out with my bill when I check out. There was an issue with the elevator the one morning as the employee said it wasn't working. This other lady who looked like a manager, was asking other guests about the elevator. When I told her that is your employee with the supply cart and he's been standing at the elevator and it's not working. She's responded to me saying "I don't know him. I don't know what's going on. I don't know about another elevator. I'm new here. This is my first day." Really? You start your first day on Easter Sunday and you had no training? There is another elevator, but apparently that's been out of order for many months. On check-in I was behind a lady complaining that her room was over 80° and that maintenance said they fixed it. I could tell that was the start of a bad stay. Of course the ice machine is out of order. I was awakened to construction men right outside my balcony repairing the patio of the restaurant. There are signs directing you to the elevator and then you get there it says staff only. The best part was the bistro, but even then the construction men were right on the other side of the wall from my table tearing apart the outside wall. I paid nearly double for a room "on a higher level" and got the second floor out of five. Just another typical tourist trap. read more

This was our 4th stay here and our last. We had always liked this place, recommended it to family and friends. We recently booked a 6 night stay and paid extra for a higher floor. There was no AC during the recent heat wave. When I complained to front desk after two nights, I was told "well you're on the top floor. Heat rises. It's hot and the ac is old and can't keep up. Everyone on that floor is complaining. Just give it time". Also the pool was shut down and ice machines not working. The first time we asked for ice at the front desk, they filled a pitcher from the kitchen's ice machine. The next time we asked, they refused saying kitchen ice machine was running low. Our room was a 90 degrees when we checked out after 4 miserable nights. When checking out early, front desk clerk said someone was coming to try to fix the AC that day. Too late! It's really sad that we had to cut our vacation short and will have to find a new place to stay for OBX vacations. We have many fond memories including getting engaged here! It just sucks that management won't invest in maintaining the property. read more

The view was terrific, and the live music at the restaurant was fun. Sadly, those are the only positive things I can say about this place. None of the elevators were in service, which is non-ADA compliant. The phone in our room didn't work. We mentioned it, but it was never corrected. There was also no information in the room about the local area or anything else, including the Wi-Fi password. A minor complaint, but at almost $400 per night I expect a little more than nothing. Our room felt skeevy and unclean. I had my husband check for bedbugs, which he didn't find, but that didn't keep me from feeling itchy the whole time. We personally didn't see any bugs but did hear other guests complaining that their rooms had roach problems. Maybe this is attributable to their housekeeping, which is non-existent unless you ask 48 hours in advance. 48 hours! They don't even replace bath towels - guests have to bring their used towels to the front desk themselves for fresh ones. Who has ever heard of such a thing? Just gross. stayed over the weekend. got there a little early no issues, we just went to the beach easy access from the office / rooms. my only reason for writing this review is because for 184.91 a night...my Ac should work and it didn't 70/75 degrees in my room the whole time. my toilet did not flush properly..also the back side elevator didn't work either did the ice machine! another big red flag!! while taking the ramp to the elevator you can smell a gas leak coming from the pool area!!!! the room was clean and the tv worked! don't know if i would return but better luck to someone else if you stay read more

started out fine, no issues. room was decently clean, bed free of bed bugs which I made sure to check upon arrival. hallways and walkways could've used a little tlc. lots of dead fish on the beach on what only seemed to be in front of the building itself. Which was odd. We were in condo 321 and the ac went out. maintenance men came and tried to fix it but couldn't. I guess a chiller on the building went out and caused most of the condos To be out of ac on the hottest days. It was 80 degrees plus in our rooms and only a sorry for the inconvenience. I asked to switch rooms and they said no. I asked for a refund and I was only refunded $100 which didn't even cover the night we left early due to i being so hot. Also, every time we wanted to get into our rooms we had to call the front desk. Our card key stopped working and no one offered to fix it. so we had to wait sometimes 30 plus mins for someone to let us in. It was frustrating. Do not go here. Grounds not kept, dirty stairwells, broken elevator (told for 7 weeks), fly and nest invested patio at restaurant, old and dated; unit old with soiled couch, stained carpet, uncomfortable beds, ridiculous square for a pillow. It is clear that no maintenance or repairs have been completed for years yet charging top dollar. The owners clearly do not care about this property. Motel 6 is a better option than this resort. Adding fresh seafood and music two nights weekly is nice, but I would expect this at a resort. What about your grounds, units, etc.? I'm a pretty laid back person, so I went to the front desk and said there was a bunch of mold and mildew in my room, and that I didn't think I'd be able to stay in that room much longer. He told me that if I decided to leave early, I could just leave my key card in the room. This room was a total health concern.black mold staring you in the face. 3 star: Beds were so hard we couldn't sleep. I ask the lady at front desk if all rooms had the same mattress and instead of answering my question she said well you should sleep on my mother in laws bed if you think these are hard. Room smelled very musty and everything felt damp my clothes felt damp when I went to put them on. The boardwalk area that's right outside the restaurant that leads to the beach had trash and a dirty diaper that had been placed in the railing and never got cleaned up the whole 4 days we were there. My wife and I stayed 4 nights at the Sea Ranch Resort in May 2024. What I Liked: I liked the location of the motel. It's very close to the Wright Brothers Memorial, a Food Lion, and several restaurants. I liked that it was oceanfront and all rooms have balconies facing the ocean. What I Did Not Like: The hotel, in general, is run down. There are a lot of corrosion stains running down the exterior walls. The paint is old and worn. Inside our room holes were burnt in the curtains, the carpet was dirty, and in general, the condition was poor. The mattress was old and very hard. The pillows were also hard and thin. After the first night, my neck and back were in pain from the poor mattress and pillows. You have to go to the front desk to get fresh bath towels. Our stay at the Sea Ranch Resort was not a pleasant one. We will definitely look elsewhere for our next OBX trip. read more

Came down to OBX 4 days we got a top floor ocean front room. From the elevator entrance to the entrance to our room you could tell it's not kept up and dirty in those outside areas. Outside our door when we checked in there was bags of dirty towels and bags of trash that was left there until the next morning. Our room was clean but could use updating. The reason we wanted a ocean front room with a balcony is so we could sit out in the morning. The balcony was dirty and the windows were not clean. There was a lot of bird droppings on parts of the balcony that have been there for a while. We got coffee and breakfast go to at the restaurant that's on site which was good. read more

Yes, the beds are hard as rocks. And I mean hard. The tub has rust. Construction blockades are everywhere blocking a lot of handicap parking. I would not consider this a handicap accessible property due to the horrendous incline you have to go over just to get in the lobby. Toilet paper is a hot commodity. And to clarify, there is no "in room" housekeeping. No room service. The back part of the building does not have an elevator which renders that section not handicap accessible. We were unable to get in to the pool area after swiping our card many times while standing in the cold. All the information we reviewed said check in time was 5 p.m. not 4 p.m. and still waiting to be refunded our $50 deposit of which I still don't understand what it was for. We didn't have any small children or pets. Careful of the balcony door. You can get locked out very easy as one lady did for almost an hour in the cold on the second floor. The back exit door was locked. Someone has been putting a rock in it so it could be accessed but the female assistant manager told my 25 Year Old daughter "uh huh! That's a fire hazard" when it's actually a fire hazard that the emergency workers would not be able to access it in the event of an emergency. I give kudos and much appreciate the late evening gentleman that checked us in. He was so nice. This will be on our "do not call" on, again, hotels. read more

The view from the balcony is awesome! The beach is all you see even from inside the room. I gave it 4 stars because the elevator was broke and we had to take the steps as well as we had a smoker near us who apparently chain smoked every time they were out on their balcony. Very hard to enjoy. People should not be allowed to smoke on the balcony. Also, the room was very out dated and didn't seem at all clean. Not sure if I would stay here again or not. read more

I was so scared when we booked this place for the Oceanfront balcony due to some of the reviews. It was the first time we decided to stay in a hotel not an Airbnb since covid began. We booked it because I needed a place I could just sit outside next to the ocean and this appeared to be it. And it was! We got a third floor room on a corner and the view and sounds were simply amazing. I do wish the chairs were more comfortable. It would be perfect for captain's chairs. The room was comfortable and very clean. That's what I was most worried about and my worries about sanitation on this stay were unfounded. Staff was pleasant. Coffee was always available. The main public restroom by the check in wasn't very clean however and is where I knocked off a star. But overall the stay in the room was exactly what the doctor ordered and I would 100% do it again. My husband was able to get a great rate for oceanfront (early April) for $370 for 2 nights and that included tax. I believe he found the deal on Expedia. The ocean balcony is totally worth it! Actually am missing that stay and keep hunting for any deals there as we speak. Beach access is immediately off the hotel. People were using the pool and it looked clean but we didn't. There's also Beachside Bistro attached to the hotel but we didn't try it this time. Our room had a mini fridge and a pull out sleeper sofa. read more

Overall we had a great stay. We were greeted by a friendly man at check in and the process was fast. The room was what I expected and very clean. Beds were good, pillows a little lumpy. The refrigerator didn't seem to be getting as cold as it should. The bathroom had some small scratched tiles and the bathtub was clean but chipping. We did have to ask for a blanket as the beds only had a very thin fleece type blanket on top. Extremely quiet at night. Convenient access to the beach. I would stay here again! read more

Off-season stay was a great deal at the Sea Ranch Resort. Due to the great prices in the winter, we opted to stay in a room right over the sand! We were on the fourth floor, and the view was amazing! Surprisingly, the solid walls and windows did not allow us to hear the surf that was thundering all night, but it was still nice to be right there. The king room was pretty clean. I always take my own wipes to wipe down all the surfaces, and in most hotels they collect dirt here and there. The coffee bar area could have been cleaner, and there was something wet in the fridge. But all in all, it was quite clean! The bed was comfortable. The shower was warm. Everything seemed in good repair. I appreciated the tiny Fitness Center elliptical machine and treadmill as it was awfully cold for an outdoor walk. My husband took advantage of free YMCA passes. The pool looked nice. We wished we had tried the restaurant. It is very cute and practically ON the sand dunes! It looked very nice. There was construction in the parking lot at the time of our visit, but I would assume this was just a seasonal thing. We would definitely stay again but probably only in the off-season as we may not like the high in-season rates. read more

We were glad to see the place has been remodeled and is clean and organized and had a good courteous staff. They have a restaurant and bar and had live Music (sat night) and it was an awesome stay. We stayed here for 3 nights -- first let me say, after reading earlier reviews about "mildew, ants & hairy bathtubs" I was a bit uneasy before getting there, but I left cheerful and pleased. So the hotel upon immediate entrance had a... what I'll call a beachy odor. This hotel is in fact directly on the beach. It is one of the closest hotels or houses to the water. So yes, it smelled like the ocean. Once you're there for awhile you get use to it. I packed a air purifier & plug in for good measure because I'm an over preparer. ;) Even without those things I was perfectly okay with the beachy smell. I didn't have a run in with any bugs AND I was looking for them. It's not your typical swanky resort so get that out of your mind. It does have an indoor pool and they're own restaurant, but I wouldn't consider it a resort. Staff was friendly & pleasant. There are open balcony rooms that overlook the water (amazing) because like I said, the hotel is super close to the ocean. There are also screened in porches. Those were a bit bizarre. I'm not sure if there is a price difference, but keep in mind when you request ocean view you might get one of those. They're not horrible, but didn't look as pleasant as the open balcony. Nearly every room has a door/balcony to the outside (beach views & parking lot views) EXCEPT the rooms we stayed in. haha Our room had 1 window that overlooked the dumpsters. Lovely. We were fine with it because we actually got a deal on the room. So no hard feelings. I understand we can't all have the fancy open balcony overlooking the water, especially when we're paying a fraction of the cost. The bedding seemed inexpensive & older. The bed was firm, but still comfortable. There was a mini fridge, microwave, flat screen tv with cable. We had internet that worked great during hours when people were asleep or out. We had two wifi options (Sea Ranch 3 & Sea Ranch 4) They DO NOT password the internet. So Sea Ranch, if you read this -- I think it's time you password your internet. That would probably speed things up a bit. With the Mariner motel directly next door who knows who is on their internet connection. All & all it was pleasant. I enjoyed the short walk out to the beach and it was never too crowded. It's a short walk or bike ride to the Avalon Pier & Awful Arthur's Oyster Bar. It's also located really close to the Wright Brothers Monument. I would recommend staying here judging off my experience & room. It's a decent price for a room on the beach. They run excellent specials. It was a good experience for our first time in the Outer Banks. read more

BED BUGS!!! BLOOD STAINS!!! Came to get away the weekend before Christmas to relax with immediate family. While this is obviously no 5-star hotel the pictures made it look very nice, but it was definitely not. It was "renovated" with very minor changes in various spots. Walked in the room it made a very well first impression. A tidy monotone hallway with a nice recessed light. The master bedroom had a pleasing aesthetic. The second bedroom was nothing like the master bedroom... White walls, bland decor, the lamp wasn't even plugged in nor did it even have a plug for it to be plugged in, no TV, the beds were ROCK solid, and no, I'm not exaggerating, the bathroom connected had corroded faucets and knobs, the bath tub was peeling. With the rock solid beds... I had to move into the main area (living room?) because I was up until 3 AM, couldn't sleep, while i know that's my problem, hang with me. As I went to pull out the sofa bed I noticed it had a odd yellow tone to it, but maybe that's just the color of the mattress. I noticed a odd, dark red spot on the mattress but I said whatever at that point it was 3:30 AM i just wanted to sleep. I began to throw a sheet on to start with and then I noticed it. Bugs. Bed. Bugs. I instantly threw everything off of that mattress and lost it. I went ahead and started cleaning the counters, which were filthy with grime and dust. We were grateful for the chance to get away to the ocean for a couple of days in late stage COVID times, and we were glad to get an oceanfront room at a reasonable price. On that front, the Sear Ranch Resort delivered, and that's the best thing I have to say about our experience. We did get an oceanfront room, though the windows were so grimy we didn't have a clear view of it unless we went onto the balcony. The staff also came through to clean multiple times a day, especially in high traffic areas like the lobby and the pool. On the occasion when we needed towels from the front desk, they were prompt and polite. Our disappointment mostly came from access to the indoor heated pool, which was our other motivation for booking a hotel room rather than finding an Airbnb. The pool itself is pretty small, certainly not enough to run laps in, but was also completely overrun by children, some supervised and some older ones left to their own devices. From what we saw, there were no staff present enforcing the COVID protocols in the pool area, and parents weren't doing much either. The posted hours were 9:00am - 10:00pm, so we came down right at 9am one morning to see if we could beat some of the rush of children. The lock wouldn't work, and we had find a staff member, who ended up having to find a manager to unlock because the automated clock isn't synced properly with the pool hours. After that, we had about 10 minutes to swim before the first young kids arrived. Of course access to a space like this is at your own risk in these circumstances, but it felt like a lot of money to pay for access to a pool that we ultimately didn't feel safe enough using. Aside from these extremes, Sea Ranch is a pretty get-what-you-pay-for locale. If you want an oceanfront vacation on a budget, it's a solid bet. One other note that isn't the hotel's fault (and therefore isn't factored into this rating) but would have been helpful info for a first-timer to the OBX: do not plan to be able to walk places from the hotel. Even though there's plenty of restaurants and stores in walking distance, there are hardly any sidewalks. Drivers seemed to be careful of pedestrians but there's only so much they can do on narrow roads with no shoulder. Kind of a bummer when part of the appeal of a beach town is the slower place of life (and not having to worry about drinking and driving). read more

This is a great place to stay when you don't want one of the chains. The resort has easy access, plenty of parking, right on the beach and good food in the on site Bistro. The rooms are clean, organized with all the needs for a short or long stay. No mildew anywhere and that is a tribute to the housekeepers. We will stay here again on our next trip to OBX. read more

This place is literally a s___hole. Night clerk was rude to my wife upon check-in (only one guest per party allowed due to COVID) Went to room...found poop in toilet and a bed that looked like someone laid on it. Called front desk. Guy says "I'll look into it" then hangs up on me. I can him back to see if he's finding us another room. He says "that's what I meant when I said I'll look into it". After a few minutes I go calmly down to see how it's coming. I am faced with major rude attitude. Then he lies and tells me Maintenance checked another room for us. How do I know that's a lie? Because the keys Maintenance used to check didn't actually fit the other room!!! So I had to make another trip to the office for more rudeness and keys that actually work. All for just $220/night, non-refundable. No matter how the rest of our stay goes, this is a horrible experience and it's got nothing to do.with COVID. Do yourself a favor - find a different place to stay. read more

We stayed at the Sea Ranch the last week of August, and will never, ever return. The only thing going for it is the view. The chair rental guy is no longer onsite - even though all of the emails and texts that I received said there was, so you need to bring your own, or call a rental company. This is our second time at Sea Ranch, and it was not a great experience. Right off the bat, when we walked into room 323, the unit looked very run down. There were several cabinets that did not close. The floor was not overly clean - there were 2 dust pans and no broom, and the vacuum did not pick up anything at all. It just kept spitting sand and dirt all over the place. The worst thing was in the second bedroom - the carpet was soaking wet between the bathroom and bedroom. There is visible water damage and mold on the rug, which is not only disgusting, but also a health hazard. The units are so old and run down and could be amazing with a little updating. And take that damn carpet out of the bathroom! It could easily be tiled. We called to let the front desk know that the carpet was soaked and there seemed to be some a leak somewhere, and they sent maintenance up. They used a shop vac to suck up the water and dumped it in the sink. There were streaks of black in the sink afterward. Does that seem right? We will not be returning to this so called "resort" ever. read more

In fact, one of the best of my year (2019), which includes some huge resorts in Vegas, California, NY and New Jersey and about 75 small others. 5 stars for Sea Ranch even though they clearly do not have even close to the budget of a Ritz Carlton or 4 Seasons. The manager Alex teaches his staff to be kind, observant and available. Had a nice ocean front room. It's not fancy but it was clean and comfortable. Had breakfast and lunch in their bistro. Perfect NC flavors with a kind NC touch. Spoke in their conference room and could not have been treated better! If you're seeking a quaint NC hotel resort with a wonderfully kind experience...make a reservation and check in...I guarantee they'll be glad that you came! We were able to get a room at the last minute after Phase 2 reopening. Clean older hotel. Ample parking. Great beach access. We stayed on the ground floor & have a private outside entrance. Nice indoor pool. Good restaurant on premises. Friendly helpful staff. Bonus for us is the availability of nice beach chairs and umbrellas for rent at a reasonable price. A guy takes your order for the week and sets them up each day for you. Also, pet friendly. Cons: -Though clean and comfortable, room & bath were a bit dated and smallish. -Due to COVID, there was no daily room service at all. We had to ask each day for towels & for trash to be picked up. Not a huge deal, but wish we had been informed of that when we booked. read more

Simply nasty and gross, what a disappointing experience. Paid $116 per night for a room not worth $20/night. Starting with old smelly carpets, dirty and stained couch, chairs, curtains, walls you name it.. Bathroom had rusty fixtures, moldy tiles, a shower head pipe about to fall off, little bugs on the bath ceiling and to top it off we had dirty bed sheets. We called the front desk in the evening to get replacement sheets and a blanket, they sent the maintenance guy who asked us to install the sheets ourselves. Too tired to argue with the manager at night, I spoke with them the next day and they were dismissive, didn't offer an alternate room or a solution. Had I not prepaid via Hotwire (a big mistake!!!) we would've left the next day. This was a room in the old building on the ground floor, no ocean view and we didn't expect one, just wanted a clean room to stay in. People who stayed in the ocean view rooms seemed to have a good experience, looks like a hit or miss on whether you get a renovated room or a dump. Photos will follow... read more

Very clean. Outstanding and friendly staff. Very helpful. Reasonable price. The only drawback is the menu at the hotel restaurant. Stay was very pleasant. read more
