The old world charm and architecture of the building nicely complemented the vast array of amenities providing us with the best of "all" worlds. In a day and age when vacations and resort destinations can be as tiring as everyday life, our stay at Saltaire was a welcome dose of privacy and personal luxury. And, yes, the front right burner on our stove didn't work, but, the three other burners did. So, what am I saying? Despite the shortcomings, our unit was reasonably clean and comfortable. And, the TV's and washer and dryer were updated. Check in staff was courteous and thorough. The beach was fantastic although I went after 5 most days. Yes, I've read the reviews telling folks to stay away. You can, but, you'll be missing out on a diamond in the rough. A Sleep Inn opposed to a JW Marriott. When checking in, I noticed some story boards highlighting some changes that may be in the future. Could it be fractional ownership? It could work if fees are reasonable. Privately owned BIS condo fees run up to around $1,000 per month but also include some stuff like tv, Internet, flood insurance and the like. I've seen quarter shares,as in 13 week ownership PLUS annual maintenance fees for EACH WEEK!No way, ever, would I fall for that. Instant bankruptcy, lol. BIS, if they're like most timeshare associations face maintenance fee delinquency rates of about 50% of owners. Not good. One I belong to is dissolving and selling units outright, starting with mine, so, I'm done there. Sad. Perhaps folks with vision and consumer value in mind, while making a decent profit, of course, can turn these properties into gold again. Recommend.

Near Balcony collapse!!!…read more I've been vacationing in OBX for twenty years with various different rental companies and have never had a worse experience than with Stan White Realty and Construction. We arrived at the house to find a dilapidated deck with evidence of partial repairs. Nails popping up on the stairs and loose boards on every level. Kids had splinters Day 1. Not super clean. Old and dated. Rusty pool ladders. Flickering lights. On Day 4, after several days of spotty internet, we discovered that the internet router was connected to an outlet that turned off every time the lights were turned off. Why would you do that?!? We had multiple adults trying to work remotely throughout the week and we never knew if we'd have WiFi. But it was Day 5 that will haunt my dreams for years to come. After a rain storm, some of us (6 adults, 3 kids) went out on the second story balcony to view a double rainbow. What was awe inspiring turned horrific in an instant when I heard a loud crack and watched my husband and loved ones sink three inches into collapsing deck boards. Thankfully everyone was able to make it safely back inside. No one slept that night though. The following day's "repair" (read: twelve or so new nails shot into the boards, no inspection) and no one dared use the balcony for the remainder of the vacation. The worst part of it all was the rudeness and complete lack of empathy from the company, specifically the broker in charge Kristina. They seemed annoyed and unapologetic throughout the whole experience. To date, no compensation was rewarded for the physical and mental damages for the loss of access to the balcony and hot tub below. Edit: After multiple emails, we were first berated for leaving the house in an "unacceptable" condition (trash in bathrooms canisters, sand in the house, and two sliding doors unlocked ) and then credited a measly $500 on a $10K+ lease for "losing the time on the deck". Bitch, we almost lost LIVES due to your negligence! Edit again: They rescinded the credit!!!! No financial compensation to date. The CEO took over communication. The BBB and NC AG's have been notified. There are plenty of companies out there who rent properties with integrity and are willing to address issues with quality and care. This ain't one.

The listing says the house is handicap ready, but there is no way for a handicap person to ever get to the beach!!! The cabinets were falling apart. The house smelled musty and when questioned, I was told it was cleaned to EPA standards. How could this be if the AC vent cover is caked with dust and the filter on the vacuum is black and chewed up? The house had many broken items and the grill was unfit to use. And don't get me started on the roaches!!! Yes ROACHES! I had to wait 3 days before pest control came to spray the entire house, which was basically for show. Mold and mildew around exterior doors on the second level From water damage. The list could go on an and on. My vacation was spent contacting the company repeatedly, documenting these issues and not relaxing. When asked for a partial refund, I was given the run around and finally offered $200. This is not even 2% of the money I paid! Stay away from this property and company!!!

It is a 8 bedroom house with 5 master bedrooms, 3 regular bathrooms, and an outdoor bathroom and shower. It's 3 floors with a working elevator. It has a sauna, hot tub, swimming pool, and hammock. I love this house and it will be the only house we rent. The truth is, this place is straightened up very nicely but isn't clean. Don't expect it to be. Even with our recent visit, there were clothes in the dryer, trash under the bed, and food left in the fridge. Their housekeeping is trifling and lazy. Each time we come, there is something broken e.g. AC in the guest house, players in the movie theater room, etc. But when we call Paramount, they have sent Bobby each time. Bobby is awesome. He's responsive, knowledgeable, and kind. He fixes it then we're good the rest of the trip. But don't expect that someone is being proactive before your arrival. We absolutely love this house. The amenities are well worth it. As a group we know what to expect. We wash our linens and bring Clorox wipes to disinfect. Just to reiterate, when you walk in, the house is straightened up very nice and looks great. The attention to basic cleaning is just sometimes lacking. However, the awesomeness of the house overrides the foolishness. I will come here again and again.

There were so many issues with the house and the CDR maintenance staff tried to be helpful, but most issues could not be fixed at all or fixed on our last day. We vacationed in OBX every year when our kids were little and decided to do oceanfront for our kids and grandkids to have a fabulous vacation. For a $28,000 oceanfront rental property, we expected more. 1. Nails sticking up from wood decking to beach (granddaughter cut her foot) 2. No hot water in both kitchen sinks. Seriously! Many maintenance visits resulted in it getting fixed the afternoon of our last day! 3. Pool lights and pool deck lights not working. 4. Outdoor shower was pretty disgusting. 5. Pool deck and hot tub area was lacking. One single (insufficient) hose, laying in pile of sand under the house was the ONLY way to clean sandy feet. 6. Gazebo - which should be a nice outdoor gathering spot - was completely overgrown, dark and dingy, and you could not sit in there for the spiderwebs, old broken chairs and mold. Ewww. 7. 2nd floor dryer never worked the entire week. 8. House was not adequately equipped (no broom, dustpan, mop, missing trashcans etc.), and the outside doors to the decks didn't close properly, basically a HUGE disappointment. I had the opportunity to view my sister's family rental 1 mile down the beach - SAME PRICE - and it was immaculate! Shower and foot sprayer coming off the beach. Hot tub on the oceanfront gazebo. Furniture in great condition, etc. I wrote to CDR and asked for a partial refund. Below is the answer I received. "To provide a bit of background, each home is individually owned, and our role is to serve as the Rental Manager ("Agent") on their behalf. The Vacation Rental Agreement notes that refunds are not typically issued for inoperable appliances, utility interruptions, equipment malfunctions, or maintenance-related concerns." I urge you to NOT rent a house from Carolina Design Realty. They should be more aware of what a $28,000/week rental should provide and be able to negotiate with owners.

We CAREFULLY selected our home due to 2 RELYING on the elevator to get up and down the stairs. Upon arrival, one person who RELIED on the elevator due to mobility issues was UNABLE to exit the elevator. The mechanism which unlocks the door upon its arrival to the designated floor WOULD NOT UNLOCK. They rode the elevator up and down trying to exit on each floor but remained STUCK IN THE ELEVATOR. Finally, after 10 minutes and much anguish (they also suffer from heart issues and severe asthma) they were FINALLY able to exit the elevator. I placed a call to the on-call repairman who arrived a few hours later. He stated the elevator was running as it should but the elevator company would need to come out to repair the door lock because if he did it would affect the warranty for the elevator. I asked him to get in the elevator to test it be he replied he would NOT ENTER IT BECAUSE HE DIDN'T WANT TO GET STUCK INSIDE. He said a work order was submitted the week before we got there and it was SUPPOSEDLY REPAIRED. Guess what, it obviously WAS NOT. He said he'd call in an another work order but since it was September 13th they no longer worked on weekends. They would more than likely be out on Monday. This was UNACCEPTABLE as what would happen in case of an emergency with my friend who was dependent on the elevator? I called Beach Realty and spoke with their office manager on duty. She said there was no need to create scenarios that may or may not happen. SERIOUSLY??? She said there was nothing she could do and if something happened just call the fire department. She assured me she'd call with information from Atlantic Elevators. When it was late afternoon on Monday, I called Atlantic Elevators and was told they would not be out until sometime on Tuesday, September 16th. The office manager I previously spoke with was NOT happy that I called them. Fortunately, we had picked up a limited number of items at Food Lion and a large pizza before entering the house on Saturday. We were STRANDED on the top floor of this home for 3.5 days of our vacation. I would NOT leave my friend alone in that house if she experienced a medical emergency. Our other friend who has more severe mobility issues decided NOT to make the trip since they were afraid they'd arrive and not be able to use the elevator. I told the person I had been in contact with at Beach Realty that I was considering contacting an attorney because of the runaround I was getting. Her response was "YOU DON'T WANT TO MESS WITH THIS OWNER." That definitely was a serious threat from her. The weather on Wednesday and Thursday was not conducive for using the pool so we did some souvenir shopping and sightseeing after being STRANDED on the top floor for 3.5 days. Friday arrived with sun and bright blue skies. We made our way to the pool for what we thought would be a relaxing afternoon. Upon getting to the pool steps, we found a HUGE, DEAD RAT off to the side. ( I've included 2 photos). A call was made to BEACH REALTY and someone removed it between Friday night and Saturday morning. Our original check-out date was Saturday, September 20th. I called Beach Realty on Thursday to see if they AND the owner would grant us 3 extra days since the elevator wasn't in operation for 3.5 days and we were stuck on the 3rd floor. (NO ONE HAD RESERVED THE HOME FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 20-27th). The owner granted ONE EXTRA DAY.... OH WOW!!! I WILL NEVER RENT FROM BEACH REALTY, AGAIN!!! They DO NOT value their customers NOR care about their safety. If you're smart, you'll rent from another company.
