Excellent location, the best for sunrise, clean accommodations, kind staff, nice breakfast Stay in ocean view if you can, but if not available the morning stroll out to the beach is delightful. The pools are amazing and it is so nice to have an indoor pool/hot tub option!!

My wife and I stayed in a main-building, pool overlooking efficiency room 201 for five nights and four days starting Thursday, 8/28/25, after Hurricane Erin passed by offshore. We loved the cleanliness of the room and the newness of the furniture and appliances. While we missed being able to see and hear the nearby ocean, we did enjoy the room's quietness. The "room" consisted of a small but fully equipped kitchen area in the entranceway, two queen sized beds with dresser drawers and closet, a large, high definition, wall-mounted cable TV and a full bathroom. The kitchen area had a window that overlooked the pool. We were glad to see that there weren't any ants in the room and that everything was clean. One thing that we felt that the room was missing was a living room area. If you wanted to relax, you either had to sit at a kitchen table or you had to recline on one of the two beds. The hotel did, however, have a main living room that was available to all renters near its entrance. We were also glad that the hotel's parking lot was spacious and clean and that Shutters provided unlimited, free ice. I loved Shutters' complete breakfasts that were available every day from 7 am until 10 am. There were too many things to choose from, i.e. waffles, grits, oatmeal, corned beef hash, biscuits with sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage patties, cold cereal with milk, bananas, oranges and apples, pastries, bagles with cream and cheese and jelly, coffee and tea, orange and cranberry juices, yogurt, and hard-boiled eggs. It was nice that there was also an enclosed, outdoor place in addition to the often crowded indoor dining area for having breakfast. The only fault that I could find was that I felt that their coffee was very weak. My workaround was to make the hotel's coffee in our room each morning and this was actually pretty good. Probably the biggest fault that I had was that the pool seemed too small and too shallow for any lap swimming. The pool's depth probably ranged from two to four feet. Also, the deck area was small and, while there were some lounging chairs, there wasn't enough room for deck umbrellas. Based on the pool size and the hotel's policy of letting children 18 years old and younger to stay for free, I assumed that Shutters intends to attract families with children as opposed to attracting older adults. There was also an indoor pool and a small exercise room as well but we didn't spend much time in these areas. Lastly, we also greatly enjoyed the hotel's direct access to the beach through a boardwalk, it's outdoor showers and the sand dune top beachside gazebo. Overall, we really liked the hotel's cleanliness and convenience and close proximity to the beach. We recommend them !!! Oh, also, if we ever go to the Outer Banks during hurricane season again, we'll be sure to get hurricane insurance as well !!!

Very clean and classy place! Rooms are super cute and the beds 10 /10 for cleanliness and comfort. Breakfast was awesome, fresh scrambled eggs and bacon, (none of that powdered stuff) fresh biscuits and pastries. 2 pools, 1 indoor and 1 outdoor. Friendly attentive staff. Well kept and maintained property! I would highly recommend the establishment to anyone, especially families. Also has private beach access , outdoor showers and a gazebo too! Very convenient.

For our spontaneous get-away, we stayed for one night. The check-in staff was fantastic; they were extremely pleasant and accommodating. The gentleman that was there (I believe his name was Ron?) recommended some good restaurants to try. The motel is located right on the beach. The view of the ocean is just breathtaking. The room was not horrible, however it had an unpleasant musty odor. For $250 + tax a night, I accepted more.

They are not flexible even if your flights change they will not let you check out early if you do they will charge you full price... they also say that all the hotel here do that. The beds on the lower floors are not as good as the 2 second floor. MAKE SURE YOUR FLIGHT IS NOT CHANGING. YOU WILL EAT 200 A NIGHT. CHECK OUT AT 11AM BUT CHECK IN IS 4PM SO TELL me why peoples cant check out early? Money hungry get copies of everything.

Disappointing. Staff: Friendly, but not accommodating. Room: MAJOR improvement is needed. See photos The beds are very uncomfortable and feels hard. There is a funky smell in the room. Carpet is messed up. Dunes view... literally the dune is blocking my view, not overlooking it, but actually stayed directly in front of it. Bathroom: Disappointing. Not pleasing to the eye. The faucet is broken, visible rust in the tub. Internet: Poor connection Cellular signal from the dunes view, NO SERVICE. Not happy. Beach is accessible, indoor and outdoor pool available.

I stayed here for our mini-moon and we had a lovely time! We stayed in an Ocean view junior suite in tower building all the way on the end/corner and it was lovely. The room was large and had a tv for both the bedroom and the living room area. The bed was comfy and we didn't hear a lot of noise or other disturbances. The sunrise view was great and you could hear the ocean. The balcony provides a great view and location for relaxing. Beach access was so convenient and the beach was really good quality Breakfast was pretty good - bacon, bagels, eggs, cereal, coffee etc. Its not the same as a restaurant but it's included in cost and quick and convent Location is convenient to restaurants, bars, and shops. Parking was plentiful and easy to find. Staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the bathroom was spacious and nice Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would happily return

There are absolutely things about this TownPlace Suites that I would like to see changed or that I…read moredidn't like, however I'm still giving 5 stars because of the location and the setup they have here and because I personally would go back without a second thought. First, some of the issues I have: The room layout puts one bed very close to the air conditioner and because they have the old-fashioned hotel style AC units, that leaves at least one person getting directly blasted with cold air all night. Using pool towel clips to put a towel over one side of the vent did help but reduced the efficacy of the AC and made the room warmer for everyone else. Breakfast is nice (and free) but the setup of it seems to be done as if this is a business hotel and not a beach front hotel. The cereal choices were all boring adult cereals, the bread for toast was VERY whole grain (as in it had pieces of grains in it), and the only milk they had was white milk (for example). Adding a small amount of more kid-friendly breakfast elements would go a long way. The outdoor pool is sheltered from the wind by the sand bank and gets really hot in the sun, a lightweight shade over the whole (or part of) the deck would probably be a welcomed addition by most people. As for what's great about this place: The location includes a beachfront pool + small snack shack with beach access which is directly across the road from the hotel itself. This gives the best of both worlds with beachfront access as well as having better parking and more room on the hotel property. On non-weekends the price is super affordable for a beachfront Marriott property. Not to mention the only Marriott property on the Outer Banks. It's very close to great food options, many walkable. Stuff for both adults and kids is easy to access. It's also not far to many interesting sightseeing or cultural things to see. All-in-all, I would love to see some minor changes but even with some flaws this is definitely a 5 star option.

Do not stay at this hotel…read more I've stayed in many Marriott properties over the years, but I wish I could give minus five stars to TownePlace Suites OBX. Infrastructure The website photos are completely deceptive. The hotel is not well maintained, despite being built in 2017. There are leaks throughout the property, and visible pockets of mold. The "Blue House" across the street (the beach access point) feels like an afterthought. There was only one deck chair, and it was broken. The handrail leading to the deck was also broken. Hygiene Poor. The interior is not properly cleaned, and both elevators were consistently dirty. Outside, there were empty bottles and trash bags scattered around the parking lot. Beach access Disappointing. If you're expecting easy, relaxing beach access based on the website photos, you'll be let down. You have to cross a street where pedestrians don't have the right of way, pass the poorly maintained deck, and then use stairs to reach the beach. Not worth the hassle. Breakfast Very poor. It's grab-and-go, extremely limited, and tasteless. Skip it and eat elsewhere. Service Unhelpful. We prepaid for a three-night stay but decided to leave after two nights due to the issues above. The front desk did not offer any flexibility or even a credit toward another Marriott property--we simply lost a night. Save yourself the headache. Stay elsewhere--areas like Duck or Corolla offer a much better experience. I'd also avoid Kill Devil Hills altogether; it's not walkable and doesn't offer a pleasant stay.

When I booked The Loft, I was unsure what to expect as I hadn't read other reviews about it, so here is my take for those potentially interested in booking: The Loft * it is basically a one-bedroom apartment -- with a bed in the living room area and a bed in the bedroom. There is a microwave, a refrigerator, and a Keurig. You have a full sized bathroom as well, and a legit living area with a couch and a couple chairs. It is perfect to split amongst 4 people; you won't feel crowded! * It is a walk upstairs. You can get to The Loft using a separate entrance from the house. You do not need to walk through the main house to get to The Loft. We liked this a lot, for privacy. But, you may need to make several trips to/from your car if you are carrying a lot of luggage. If you are unable to carry luggage on your own, I'd recommend having a friend help you or, if you are staying alone, I would recommend a different room at Cypress. The walking up the stairs was not an issue for me and my friends, but I think it could have been an issue for my parents. * It has a outdoor patio area with 4 chairs around a small table, and you have a distant view of the ocean. It's lovely. The B&B experience: Bill was simply fantastic throughout our stay. The breakfast was delicious every morning. My husband and I are early birds so had no issue making it in time for the 8:30 breakfast. The breakfast was fresh and yummy! You are walking distance from the beach (like a 3 minute walk!). The B&B has chairs for your use, so you can grab one of those chairs and walk over to the beach. You're also walking distance from a few restaurants and to Duck Donuts if that's your thing. We tried Duck Donuts for the first time on a morning walk; it was ok -- to each their own! Tips: If you are driving to Duck for a wedding, please leave the Cypress 2 hours before your event start! We had no clue how bad traffic could get. What should have been a 20 minute ride took slightly over 2 hours. Apparently, it's just like that on the weekends (especially Saturdays), so you've been warned! All in all, we had a fantastic experience here and will be excited to return.
