This was such a neat place to stay. The owners are so accommodating, kind, and really just treat you like family. Not to mention, they create an incredible breakfast experience. If you are interested in doing something around the area, or need suggestions, they have so many recommendations. I really just can't say enough about how wonderful they are. The house is like going to an aunt and uncles house, we just felt very cozy and comfortable. The pictures are exactly how the house is. Kill devil hills. OBX. The owners are so friendly and accommodating. The inn is Hugh. With 2 screened porches upstairs and 1 downstairs. The other downstairs porch has tables for breakfast. There is also 4 high top tables on the deck for outside eating. We get the Boat Room. 1 king size bed with a bathroom big enough to dance in. Shampoo, conditioner, soaps and beauty pack filled with toothbrushes, q tips , dental pics. The views are fantastic. We watched dolphins and otters while eating breakfast. The breakfast is a work of art. Fruit cups, yogurt eggs with ham and cheese. Freshly made crepes with bananas and homemade Carmel sauce. There is a microwave and dishes, silverware and cooler with sodas and water upstairs with couches and games. Fresh baked cookies outside your room in the evening. There is fishing and crabbing on site. If you don't have the equipment they Wii loan you what you need. There is also a pool, several swings and chairs outside. We'll be back!!! We stumbled upon this bed and breakfast through an Airbnb booking. Unfortunately we only booked it for one night! Dawn and Darrell are so pleasant and make you feel right at home. The other guests were just as welcoming and we enjoyed talking to all of them. We just wish we would have stayed the entire weekend to get to know them better. If you're looking for a community of fellow travelers that love having a good time and sharing with you what adventures they did during the day. This is definitely the spot for you. Several of the guests even mentioned that they were returning in a few months and also made a bookings for July 4th of next year! A perfect balance of feeling welcomed while still being able to sneak away for some quiet time! The breakfast and cookies we had were spot on! We were also offered homemade pear jam made form the pear tree out back. Also make sure to say hello to the family of ospreys that live just off the dock out back! We found Colington Creek Inn via reference from a friend. What a gem sitting here in OBX! You won't find a better breakfast at the Outer Banks. Dawn and Darold are attentive and generous with their time and guidance. It's like a built in concierge service. We got chairs, umbrella and beach goods from to head out to the beach. They just make the whole experience relaxing and fun. Kayaks are also available. The saltwater pool is an absolute treat and the views are quite nice. The overall experience here is just as they want it to be - relaxing. Each room has its own semi-private porch area and we spent a ton of time with coffee and wine overlooking the sound. My husband and I stayed one night at Colington Creek Inn. We definitely should have stayed longer. This is a hidden gem in the OBX. It's peaceful & relaxing. There is a spot for everyone to enjoy the view. The host are lovely and very welcoming. The small touches like wine upon arrival to sweet treats before bed were very much appreciated. This is definitely the gem of the Outer Banks. You step through the front door and you feel like you've been transported to England's Countryside. Our room was quaint and unique, and offered all the comforts of home. Our breakfast is crafted each morning by Dawn and served by Darold. We had our own private porch or we could choose to sit outside in comfortable chairs overlooking the water. After five days, it was hard to say goodbye. Just had an AMAZING experience in the Outer Banks! I stayed at the Collington Inn which is a Bed and Breakfast located in Kill Devil Hill. The owner Dawn and her husband Darold are quite amazing! This B&B only serves 100% Organic Gluten Free meals. I had an awesome breakfast every morning during my stay that Dawn prepared which was homemade. EVERYTHING was delicious!! I did not once have a meal that I disliked. Dawn also leaves a small dessert every night by your door which was such a great treat after a long day! One night I had chocolate covered strawberries which were so good, second night I had brownie bites that were super moist and quite tasty with the chocolate that was used, and the third night I had pear and raspberry muffin bites (it was not a breakfast type bite, but best way to describe it) that were so good too! This was all homemade!! The grounds around the B&B are gorgeous, it makes you feel like you are apart of a movie scene because it's so beautiful. The rooms are spacious too! When we left the Colington Creek Inn after a 4 night stay in the cottage I told my husband I felt like I was leaving a sweet aunt and uncle's house. Dawn and Darold are the most wonderful hosts. They bring a freshly made treat every night and each morning they serve a lovely multi-course breakfast. In addition to the food and comfortable accommodations we enjoyed the pool, kayaking, watching a storm from the sun room, lounging in a hammock, and the close approximation to the beach, shops and seafood market. Extremely nice - so superior to a hotel! The breakfast is a culinary delight. The hosts are warm and hospitable. Romantic, on the water and tons of extras. They offer kayaks, fishing poles, beach chairs, a small pier and plenty of comfy places to look out over the water and relax. No television so bring your own entertainment. I can only start with: WOW!! My husband & I had a PHENOMENAL experience at Colington Creek Inn. From the start to the finish of our stay we were met with above and beyond hospitality. We stayed in the Suite and really felt that every detail they put into our room (as well as every where else in the Inn or on the property) was thoughtful, practical, and from the heart. The breakfasts were indescribable-- utilizing home/Inn grown, local and gluten-free ingredients & they really showed off their culinary knowledge with different and delicious recipes. A tiny fraction of the reasons for this 5 star review not yet mentioned: recommended amazing local restaurants (literally down the street), large & clean pool, fun porch swings on the screened-in porch and overlooking the water, the jacuzzi tub in the Suite was fantastic (and Epsom salts were provided!!), they had their own little dock, great quality linens, towels, robes, and mattress, and lastly-- all of the personalized details that I'll keep as a surprise. While we were relaxing on the enclosed porch outside our room on the 3rd day of our stay, my husband quoted, "I feel like we've come to a vacation home that we've known for so long." That truly speaks to the warm & inviting ambiance of this Inn. Please stay here!! We can't recommend this place enough. Dawn & Darold have huge hearts, love people well, and are proud owners of a gorgeous and relaxing property. Ambiance ***We stayed here during COVID and they were awesome about following every rule of COVID compliance. My husband and I have stayed at a few bed and breakfasts and this one really stands out for us. The B&B is really well done and everyone who stays there has a porch next to their room where you eat breakfast. We were greeted by Mae when we arrived and she is a sweetheart. She had freshly baked cookies waiting for us! She stayed open late for us because we had a late arrival for our long weekend. Mae figured out we were celebrating our anniversary and put some champagne and glasses in our room. Also one night she gave us wine and a cheese plate! We also brought our own wine and it's great to enjoy on the property. They have a pool, picnic tables, swinging benches and other places to chill and relax. Every room has a great view of the bay! Breakfast was good and simple, we had omelettes one day and sweet potato pancakes another morning. Her husband Bob is also awesome and super helpful. Bob and Mae gave us great recommendations for places around the OBX and really know their stuff. We would definitely stay here again. Not only is this home beautifully situated on the sound, but the owners are amazing. They brought us a beautiful breakfast and included mimosas (when they found out it was my birthday). The room was nicely decorated, with windows overlooking the sound and sun rooms. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was exceptionally clean with a rain shower head. There are only 4 rooms in the home, so it makes for a quiet and very personal evening. They welcomed us with a glass of wine, served warm cookies and milk in the evening and we awoke to fresh coffee and sunny sitting room. We will be back!! read more

Thank you for a simply relaxing and incredible anniversary weekend! Upon arrival, the surrounding water took our breath away, the inn so innviting (get what I did there?!), and our suite oh my goodness did we feel like celebrities! The view, private dining, porch, comfy bed, spacious bath with jacuzzi, walk in - it felt like a dream home all for us even though others were residing as well. We cherished every second lounging on the swing, chatting at the table, taking a much needed breather. Darold made our anniversary so special, making sure we had everything we needed and providing champagne, chocolate strawberries and cookies! His breakfasts were so yummy and offered extras of anything we wanted! He also helped us with kayaks, what a wonderful adventure taking in the beautiful scenery, and bikes - we were able to bike to the beach! His recommendations were great, easily available via phone when we reached him! Truly great to talk to, we enjoyed his chats and he felt like family. If you want to be at the center of it all in the Outer Banks, but don't really want to be in the middle of everything, this is the place. Minutes from the main drag, Colington Creek Inn is a quiet private place on the Sound side (as opposed to the ocean). The rooms are lovely, the porch peaceful. But what really makes this place are innkeepers Bob and Mae. They are so gracious and friendly, and they've got all the right touches. Every morning when we stepped onto the porch, there was coffee and juice waiting, and shortly one of our hosts would appear with a delicious breakfast. When we returned from our evening outings, there was a plate of cake, cookies or some other tasty treat--we quickly learned not to bother ordering dessert at dinner because something delicious would be waiting for us back at the Inn. We booked a last minute trip and were really lucky that a room in this home was available. I really really enjoyed my stay here. We stayed in the luxury suite and it was amazing! A full living room area plus a bedroom and a sunporch that runs the length of the building and provides wonderful views of the sound. I only wish it was a little more private. As the sunporch and living area are connected to the kitchen and another outdoor area on the opposite end, you never really feel like its your private space. However, that isn't enough to keep me away and I believe it deserves a very high review (4.5 stars?). The owners are very nice and you really do feel like you're in your home away from home. I did not particularly like that you cant lock the doors after you leave your room, but it wasn't too bad after they assured me that they keep an eye on things when people are outside of the home. It is actually refreshing that there are still places with that much trust in people! The breakfasts were really nice and our dietary requests were accommodated. The hammock and swing in the back yard by the sound were welcomed touches and allowed for a few minutes of peace while gently rocking through the wind. Can't wait to go back! read more
