Located directly across from the Owens restaurant is this tiny motel with its own private beach access. The most affordable place to stay is here which means it books fast. Outdated but serves its purpose - sleep, shower and bathroom. Our room was considered ocean side which is true but for someone who is a stickler for the details I think it should be renamed to beach access as you can not physically see or hear the ocean. The ocean view / side rooms are located at the back of the motel and these rooms are more expensive. Room comes with towels, bar soap, mini shampoo / conditioner, toilet paper, extra trash bags, tiny coffee maker, mini fridge, window ac, base board heat, microwave, small tv, closet, dresser, nightstand and free WiFi. Ice machine and drink machine located in back motel. Oh and .... living walking disgusting cockroaches! Almost stepped on a cockroach as I went to the bathroom ! Yes it was alive ! Yes I am allergic !!! No wonder my allergies are giving me a fit. :( Note to self: Bring roach traps! Room 6 : has a leaky toilet and a constant dripping sound Not many electrical outlets in our room so I would recommend to bring a four way. Beds not the very comfortable. Wear socks on carpet. Do not stay here. They break federal law regarding service animals, first by denying them. Than by trying to prize a necessary disability from the handler. Federal law states what you all did is ILLEGAL! Plus from all the Customer generated reviews, not staff generated, this place is dated. Filled with bugs. Not clean. Nor has working amenities. Spend an extra buck. I'd stay away from the restaurant too if their hotel is so run down. Probably roaches in the kitchen. For the uneducated slug Jim: Trained for Security yes, but as stated they went through compete Service Training. And are registered as such, you don't know what Security entails. Let alone how to run a business by the way you've responded to past guests, or by how run down and bug infested your establishment is. As stated, my SERVICE DOGS go to Children Hospitals as well as retirement homes. My dogs are trained to alert to danger, as well as medical emergencies. Just because I myself have no disability does not diminish the fact that they are FEDERAL ADA PROTECTED SERVICE ANIMALS. I will be filling a civil rights violation suit against you all, seeing as my Service Animals are accorded the same rights as you or I. DISGUSTING!!! Cockroaches scattered as soon as I entered the room and turned on the light. I booked the room in advanced and thought how bad could it be for the price, it was worse. The window air conditioner was so loud and the bed felt like a pullout couch. The carpet is so bad it wasn't even sock worthy I kept my shoes on to walk around. When I checked out she charged me more than what she quoted me over the phone. My room shared the parking lot of their restaurant and faced the back of the building over looking the dumpster and workers smokers lounge. Never going to eat at Owens Restaurant after seeing how they keep their rooms. The office was clean and smelled of bleach sending the Fake Message that they are a clean Motel, farthest thing from it. This place reminded me of a motel out of Breaking Bad. There are other inexpensive places to stay for just a bed and a bathroom, this place will leave you with hives. read more

The motel us walking distance from many stores and there's even a restaurant right by the motel, there's a pool which is considerably clean but no stairs just one ladder. May I rate less than one star? I made reservation in mid Jan 2020 for May 6th and 7th through Travelocity at this hotel I called in-laws to confirm the dates. I learned I needed to pick another week. The next week Jan 17th, contacted Travelocity who tried to cancel the reservations on our behalf. Travelocity told us that the for "economical reasons" they wouldn't cancel them even though their website states they would if given 14 days notice. I called the hotel; their voice mail recording stated they were closed for the season.The Travelocity website didn't contain this information I wouldn't trust this hotel nor the efficiency of velocity Mike Gibbs read more

I too am in the vacation business in Key West and love vacation destinations on the beach with both the great ocean and a swimming pool a few steps away. They are also kind enough to give hotel guests ten percent off their family restaurant across the street. We have found and love paradise north and plan to stay here every year! read more

I love this place. It was perfect for our labor day weekend getaway. We arrived the Friday before labor day around 11 am. I knew check in was at 4 pm, but i was hoping it would be ready since you get lucky at times. We checked in and our room was indeed ready. That made me happy. The motel is situated very close to the beach which was a win for us. Our room was ocean side... about 15 steps to the beach. It was very convenient. I loved being able to walk back and forth to the beach from our room for snacks, drinks, etc (the ice machine is right next to the beach too). The room was very clean, spacious, and cozy. The housekeeping was consistent in bringing us what we needed. We were always in the room when they arrived, so we opted for fresh towels and toilet paper. The pool is across the street and was a nice size. The pool was clean and the water was nice. We were close to everything we needed. You have a market, 7-11, tacobell/kfc, a few restaurants within walking distance. Customer service is great...the reception guy let us park there on our last day to enjoy the beach and pool after we checked out. Everyone who works on the grounds is very friendly and accommodating. Motel is clean, and spacious with ample parking. I recommend this place to anyone, and I am definitely coming back here again! read more

The motel is fairly clean but is certainly outdated. Can't complain much for $125 a night right on the beach. The pool is across the street but it is less than a minute's walk from the ocean front rooms - and some of the rooms are on the other side of the street by the pool anyway. 4 Stars because it is outdated and the shower felt old and a little gross. There was also a giant spider web with a spider in my room my first night here (killed the spider) and then on my last night I was in the shower and a GIANT spider was sitting there on the ground looking at me when I looked down (and I screamed). read more

Motel did not live up to others reviews. Carpet was very grimy, bring extra socks because it turns your feet black. Chairs outside room were broken, as well as curtains. We found a dead roach in the room, but in fairness didn't see any live ones. Management was not very accommodating, asked for a late checkout and they acted like we asked for the moon. Also bring your own pillows because theirs are thin like paper. Can't say I'd stay here again. read more

My husband and I stayed here my very first visit to OBX. This year, will be our third time at Owen's. The hotel is conveniently located. Beach access is a few yards away, within walking distance of the Tanger Outlets, souvenir shops, 7-11, a small grocery store, the Dunes, Fat Boyz, and it even has its own restaurant. The restaurant has delicious seafood, steaks, and dessert. A picturesque dining area was a perfect place for my husband to propose. The hotel has comfortable beds, plenty of room, dressers, dining table, chairs, mini fridge, microwave, air-conditioning, closet with hangers, ironing board, iron, etc. It is great to go back to the hotel with leftovers and know you can keep it cold and heat it up whenever you want. The hotel is clean- cleaning crew is friendly and helpful, quiet, and quaint. With reasonable prices, you can't beat it. The managers of the hotel are great. The location for this hotel is quite good. Right on the beach, you can hear the (large) waves crashing on the sand. Several restaurants and shops within walking distances. The building in the back has rooms with outdoor decks overlooking the beach. Very nice. This is not a luxury place, but a clean comfortable room to lay down at night. If you're looking for the hyatt or marriot, you are not going to be happy at owens. If you're looking for a moderately priced MOTEL, right on the beach, right in the middle of everything in nags head with a super friendly staff... you're going to be good. Pros: Staff is all sorts of friendly. Right on the water (at least all but the courtyard side of the motel). Easy walking distance to a host of restaurants and shops, easy drive distance to the rest. Price is definitely fair, even in season. Very clean. Cons: It's an older motel - so sometimes it smells like one. But it's on the water, salt and sand do damage. Not a deal breaker for me. I have always been happy staying here - though we have rented houses the past two years, owens is my go-to for a long weekend or shorter trip down where renting a house can't happen. Place is always clean, if something isn't working or whatnot, they'll fit it or trade rooms for you. Best place to stay are the oceanfront "condos" but the rooms are fine too. I have never stayed across the street on the courtyard side so can't account for them but I'm sure they're equally good. Super bonus, owens restaurant - don't miss that. read more

My husband and 2 children checked in on Monday. Everything was OK until Wednesday night. The family above us had 2 children. These children stomped and what sounded like jumping off the beds. They did this until well after midnight Wednesday and Thursday. Also, on Wednesday night, I had a very bright LED light pinned at me as I sat on the beach by someone in that room. The children ran up and down the stairs yelling. I spoke to someone in the front office. He only said he'd say something to them. Whatever he said, had no bearing on her. First, the pros: Owens' Motel was located in a great spot, within walking distance of a few restaurants, the Tangier Outlets, and most importantly, it was close to the beach. The price was also good, and while the rooms are small, most people go to the beach to, well, be outside, not inside. The cons: the motel office wasn't open 24 hours, there wasn't an ice machine on the ocean side, just a cooler sitting next to the office. The room's mini fridge seemed to be at least 20 years old and wasn't particularly efficient at cooling, even on the highest setting. The pillows were very flat, the tiles in the bathroom were loose (as in, I stubbed my toe in the shower and a tile fell), there were stains on the ceiling, there were no bottles of shampoo or conditioner provided. If you're going to stay here, I'd recommend getting one of the efficiencies located on the ocean side, as those have their own private balcony overlooking the beach. With a view like that, it would totally make me overlook the cons I just mentioned. read more

This hotel is very basic. Basic is just fine, in fact perfect. We had a clean room. The beds were made up and clean. The bathroom was clean. We couldn't hear the people in adjacent rooms. Property is very close to the beach. The staff was very friendly. What more could a person ask for? I don't need a fancy room with room service. This had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Didn't meet my expectation and was very displeased. This was my first visit to Nags Heads, NC. We stayed in the Westside Courtyard of Owens Motel; I would have to say that I was displeased with my stay. The room had a faint smell of mildew as we entered the room. There were no toiletries available -hand soap, facial soap, shampoo/condition or hand location, nor facial tissue. The space was small and there was no access to Wi-Fi in or around the surrounding area and there was no phone in the room to call for room service, but there was a phone book. The location of the hotel was great not far from the Jennette's Pier or the beachfront. For the value of the money I will have say, "You pay for want you get". If you just looking for a place to lay you head for a reasonable price, then you will be happy at this motel. Room was small and again I will have to say that cleanliness was not on the high level if I smell mildew. Service I would have to say Staff was friendly when addressed but I can't really say. read more

Housekeeping was super nice & gave us a lot of extra towels & toiletries. The room is small but fit perfectly for me & my husband. Room was out dated but still fitted our needs. The staff was friendly and check in was very smooth and fast. It is a motel whose heyday was likely the 1950s. Rooms are small but clean and no weird smells at all. My daughter and I stayed here on a daddy daughter trip Mon-Fri. We are literally just in our room to sleep and for that it was totally fine. We liked the pool too which is 9 feet deep which you never see anymore. There is also a attached Owen restaurant which ranks very highly here on Yelp but was too pricey for our needs. Since price was my main driver I have to say that location and price where all spot on with Owen Motel...The only Con; for me was the door to our room was a Interior Grade door...yes thats right a hollow core door with the ONLY lock being a doorknob lock. I'M VERY safety minded and a 10 year old boy could have kicked this door in...no inside dead bolt nothing! My carry permit and pistol were big comfort added items but without those I think I would have felt very concerned. read more

I love Owens! I have stayed here several times and have always had a great experience. It's inexpensive, quiet, friendly, and clean. The best thing about Owens are the owners and staff. I was there a few weeks ago and there was a mix-up with room keys and the owner and staff when above and beyond to fix the situation. Incredible customer service. It feels like staying with friends. The beach is on one side and the outlets are on the other - perfect! The pool is great, too. And the restaurant - delicious! If you go to the restaurant (or even if you don't), be sure to get some of their housemade poppyseed salad dressing to take home with you. I seriously can't get enough of the stuff. Just ran out yesterday and I'm so sad! Can't say enough good things about Owens. I'll definitely be back - wouldn't want to stay anywhere else! See you again soon (I hope)! :) read more
