My wife and I took a short vacation to the Outer Banks to celebrate our 16th anniversary. I was able to find a hotel that has access to the beach. The drive was gorgeous as you get closer to your destination. The strip on S Croatian Hwy was filled with eateries, souvenirs shops, fishing station, rentals, miniature golf, go carts and a mall. As we arrived to the hotel, plenty of parking and addition parking across the street. The front lobby was modern, clean and comfortable. The front desk clerk named Angie was friendly, genuine and very helpful. She made our stay at ease, provide valid information and guide us through the hotel. This hotel has an indoor pool, a restaurant, outside seating overlooking the beach, easy access to the beach, 3 options of view: beach, sunrise and street. There are local eateries across the street and some are minutes away by car. You have multiple options for rooms: king, queen, full beds. Each room is clean, non smoking, equipped with a small refrigerator, microwave, ice bucket, AC, remote tv with so many channels including movies. The hotel is pet friendly which is located on the first floor, front desk available 24/7 and all staff are professional and friendly. We will definitely stay at this hotel in the near future. read more

Rooms are very dated and pillows hard. The pool and hot tub are very warm which is great but chlorine very strong, better ventilation needed. Worst offense is the wifi connection here- asked 2 different front desk clerks and one gentleman that seems to handle everything including housekeeping came over, nobody could connect our iPhones or iPads. This was our second visit and the hotel has Pet Friendly down to perfection. Very nice stay and will continue being our go to for when we visit the Outer Banks. The only negative was on our first night we found an uninvited guest in our room, a Cockroach. I know they are prevalent on the Outer Banks, so it wasn't a big deal, but I let the front desk know just so they are aware, but they tried saying the bug wasn't a cockroach but a Palmetto bug. Lol Palmetto bugs are cockroaches. Overall a great visit once I evicted the cockroach visitor. read more

For 200 a night, it leaves a bit to be desired. The restaurant and bar was closed Sunday but we did get to try the breakfast on that Saturday. Bad: Walls and hanging ceiling paint were peeling, what looked like blood on the ironing board, bathroom heat lamp didn't work, light switches and outlets appear dirty, rust on towel bar and ceiling in bathroom, items left under bed from previous customers, crack between balcony door to inside, bathroom mirror lights flicker. read more

No option to change rooms or even a discount. Asked for more towels. Never brought. We had to go retrieve them ourselves. They left out washcloths. Terrible musty odor. The hotel is aged. Upon entering the lobby the service desk people were very friendly. We had two rooms they didn't connect but at least the were close. Hotel is dog friendly but they didn't tell us the beach is closed for dogs from 9am to 6 pm. We were already set up on beach then packed up the dog's and went to Nags head 11 minutes away. That beach is always dog friendly! The hotel charges a daily dog fee. The room is ok smells funny, The full bath is dim if you want to read in the bath bring a light. Our toilet ran on and off during the night. There was a small gym with a couple of machines- I rode the bike. when we were planning to go away for the weekend, we were at some of the reviews for this hotel. The reviews were mixed, but I thought we would let you know that we had a great time! While it is true, that housekeeping was a little lax, they cover the basics and we received new towels and cleaning supplies every day. Also, everyone was super friendly, and the hotel is amazing. make sure you take time to have breakfast and go to dinner at their Tiki restaurant. The food is outstanding! It is a great family, friendly atmosphere and with only a few seconds from the beach, what else really matters anyway? If you were looking for a fancy hotel where you will be treated like royalty, you need to see elsewhere. However, if you are looking for a hotel where you will be treated like family and where you will find a place to rest between walks to the beach, this hotel is excellent! read more

What could be better than reasonably priced, no-frills stay (over long weekend in off season) w/direct access to beach? I will say the staff was very welcoming, friendly, personable, helpful and accommodating. Our 2 queen "city view" room appeared recently remodeled and offered an in-room coffee pot, fridge, and microwave. However, we did not use coffee pot because it had obviously not been cleaned in some time. Room had a balcony, but it appears to be frequented mostly by birds. If you reserve a room w/a "dune view", beware, you most likely be looking at a wall of sand vs beach. If you have pets, there appears to be a floor dedicated to animals, with some of the rooms having direct access to beach from patio on back of building. Coffee, tea and hot cocoa is offered in lobby during set hours in mornings and evenings--I was not aware of a complimentary breakfast, although a for-cost breakfast buffet was advertised in lobby. The pool/hot tub area is in severe need of repair, which as I understand is scheduled sometime in Spring 2023. There's a sizable deck to view the ocean/sunrises without having to set foot on the beach. If you like beach combing, you can find shells (mostly smaller ones), mermaid purses (shark egg cases), whelk egg sacs, beached jellyfish, and other ocean curiosities. The hotel's location is ideal, and within reasonable driving distance to Pea Island, Bodie Lighthouse, Jeannette's Pier, Wright Brothers National Monument, NC Aquarium Roanoke, as well as other great businesses. [A word of caution: Upon entering the lobby, we were a strong, peculiar odor (similar to marijuana?) that persisted throughout our stay. Mind you, we requested non-smoking room (the room was not the issue) but the smell persisted in common areas (entryway, hallways, etc.). They are located on the first floor with a door that leads out to a grassy area. Nearby bags and trash. Very convenient when taking your pets out to use the bathroom -great location. Very impressed with my stay here from start to finish. We luckily had no trouble finding parking, and we were given a window hanger to indicate we were patrons of the hotel so I really appreciate that parking is regulated for guests. The pool was not over packed and the hot tub was amazing. The walk out to the beach was easy breezy. Incredibly beautiful day for us. There is a cute tye dye place directly across the street, so that was convenient. Everything is in such a short drive, or even a quick walk. Including a bar!! The staff have been extreamly friendly. Pet-friendly hotel! We stayed for 3 nights in mid-July 2019 (mid-90s and humid!!) and brought our dog for an additional pet fee of $35/night plus tax. The overall stay was very good, and here are some highlights: 1. Fast & quick check-in with two members of staff available. No self-checkin option. 2. Literally on the beach, can't beat the location. We had a beach-facing room, but because all the pet-friendly rooms were on the first floor and below grade, our view was weed- and brush-filled hill of sand. 3. The room was spacious and comfortable. Limited channels on TV, but not something we needed. There's a door to the patio, but you can't lock it from the outside. There was a convenient side exit to access the beach. 4. There's enough dining and bars all along the two main roads and if you have a car you can practically get anywhere fast. Traffic wasn't an issue; heat was! We accidentally left our Chromecast device plugged in the TV. The front desk manager (a woman whose name i didn't catch) was unhelpful with locating the device and ensuring follow-through and insinuated that I was making it up, but the housekeeping manager Michael later called me having found it and was extremely helpful and arranged to ship it back to us. I stayed here while attending an out of town wedding and it was disappointing how dirty it was in my room. The floors were sticky and had orange stains all over which told me immediately that either the staff doesn't clean the room or they just don't care enough to thoroughly clean. Also, the lamps had unknown spots all over them along with the desk in the room. For how much I paid for three nights, I would expect the room to at least be clean. I reached out twice to try to get answers on this and have yet to hear back and this was two weeks ago. Let me start by saying this hotel looks better on the outside than the inside, and that's saying something. Our room was outdated, but there were also several sanitary concerns that made it feel more like a motel than a hotel. Floors looked moldy and tarnished, paint was chipping from multiple areas of the wall in the room and the bathroom, and I would not be surprised if there was mold growing in the bathroom because there was very little ventilation with a loud fan that did not work. Walls are thin and we could hear our neighbors conversations. The door to our room required us to pull it very hard to close, which made a very loud door slamming sound each time. The hotel does not even provided towels for the beach and prohibits using bath towels. It is very obvious the management is cheap and does not put any effort into making the hotel look the way it claims to make vacationers feel. We would not recommend this hotel to anyone, especially considering the price tag for this kind of service. read more

Our room has mold in the bathtub, behind the toilet. The pool water was so low and foggy, no towels, freezing water. We could have been very sick if we swam in this pool. Clearly has not been maintained. When we alerted the front desk, he just said he would tell a manager. Never heard back. Went to the hotel restaurant and was served THREE fish taco entries that were all bad fish, horribly smelly. The wait staff apologized and refunded our money for the entrees. Seems a HUGE lack of health and safety concern at this location, which we have taken pictures and will be reporting further. The rooms are simple and the roof is low. It's a bit in the way expensive side. The location is great. The view is great. The staff was friendly. They're definitely convenient to the beach access and has a pool. Starbucks is up the street nearby along with a Tesla Supercharger in the Harris Teeter parking lot. Stayed here for three nights this week. We were told when we checked in that since we were staying multiple nights that housekeeping would not be servicing our room each day. We were told to call the front desk if we needed towels. I'm ok with that and I understand most places are shortstaffed right now. As you walk through the lobby and hallway the smell is very unpleasant. Every time we walked down the hallway there were dirty towels and trash outside of rooms. The carpet is gross. We've stayed here before and enjoyed the fact that they have people on the beach who set up Ramada chairs and umbrellas that you can rent for the day for $25. I asked about this on Monday and was told that they don't do this on Mondays. We went out and bought an umbrella and chairs. They never set up chairs and umbrellas on Tuesday or Wednesday either. They shouldn't advertise this service on their website. To get to the beach access you either walk through the gross indoor pool area or through the restaurant. Very weird. They really miss out on selling drinks. The bar used to be open to the outside deck and you could walk up and get a fruity drink to take out on the beach. The bar was closed up and dark our whole visit. We had a king bed and it was the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept on. It was so soft and had a huge dip in the middle. The air conditioner was so loud it woke me up several times and it's almost impossible to hear the TV over it. I always strip the bed and pile up the dirty linens before I checkout just to help out the housekeepers. I wish I hadn't! Gross stains. One big one that looked like blood. The bathroom is so tight. The door is in the way. The tank lid on our toilet was too big and everytime you sat on the toilet it moved around and that sound is like nails on a chalkboard. Arrived after five hours of drive to the hotel and front desk made a mistake with our reservation and cramped us up in one room instead of two that we originally reserved and paid for! Hotel management refused to refund or even offer anything! Evidently, the front desk agent was new and inexperienced. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. They refused to accept their mistake and told us it was our responsibility to ask for the second room, not the agent, and we lost our money, and there is nothing they can do!!! We have stayed at the Ramada several times. Although it is an older facility, the rooms are very clean, the service is great, and the staff are courteous and helpful. I have a disability and use a scooter to get around the large building. I suggest that that all interior doors, including bathrooms, be adjusted to reduce the force to open to not more than five pounds. This would help someone with limited upper body strength. read more

One of the worst places I've ever stayed at. Ramada old and outdated and has not been renovated for a long time. For example carpets are dirty and smelly shower handle was about ready to fall off the shower rod was falling off as well. Also men's bathroom in the lobby was out of service and ice maker on third floor which we were staying was out of service as well. I will say we mentioned at the front desk and maintenance came up and addressed both issues right away so I give them credit for that. Also no daily room service which for me is totally unacceptable since when you're on vacation I think most people want their beds made and place cleaned. I would have expected more from a brand name chain like Ramada but apparently not and for ~$ 350 a night I would absolutely not recommend. read more

Loved this place, once we switched rooms to a higher floor. Staff was very helpful, room was a decent size and clean. Comfy bed. Fantastic views, quiet beach. Restaurant on site was good, had views and food was good too - we loved the wings app with their special sauce so much we ordered then several nights, and drinks were good too. They sometimes had live music (guy singing and playing guitar) which was nice (good songs, and not too loud to be annoying) though the smoking area was too close to the restaurant, so that was a problem for us a couple nights. Move that smoking area farther away and I'd give them five stars! Good location too - not in the busy part of town noise wise but lots of restaurants, stores, Harris teeter near by. Overall had a really good and memorable stay and would def go back! read more

Our expectations were low; we knew the hotel wasn't that well reviewed, but it was oceanfront. However, there was a big problem. All the common areas of the hotel stink of moldy carpet. This is totally unacceptable. If you're charging these prices, a person shouldn't have to hold her nose just to get through the lobby. 5 of us girls came down for a girls weekend. The room itself was a good size and as clean as a hotel room can possibly be. They have a nice restaurant which we did not use. Check in was quick and painless. And they have an indoor pool which was just ok. The main things that we did not like was that they do not offer a continental breakfast at this location. Getting to the beach is a pain in the ass. We kept our beach stuff in our cars so as not to have everything in our room. We had to go thru the lobby, up a flight of stairs and either pass thru the pool area or go around and pass thru the restaurant to get outside to access the beach. They did offer rental chairs and umbrellas but why rent when you already own. Anyways like I said it was a pain. Will most likely choose a different hotel next time. read more

The facilities and rooms were very clean, but the beds were fairly hard, and this made if difficult to sleep. The only thing that will keep me from going back is the fact that I booked the room as a pet friendly room. It was not specified that I would have to pay extra per night for a small dog, and I ended up getting charged basically another nights fee. There isn't much you can do about it once you're there, and it would be impossible to find another hotel such short notice. This information needs to be relayed better through booking.com. read more

Very nice hotel! The rooms are spacious, service was great and the location is breath-taking. The hotel is right on the beach with easy access. There is a breakfast buffet that is inclusive with your stay for only $9.95. If you don't want to eat from the buffet, they will prepare special breakfast items for you. Check in is at 4:00pm, we arrived a couple hours early. We could have checked in but our room was not ready; had it been so, they would have let us go right up. However, they did give us a key to access the property (pool, beach patio, beach) white we waited for our room. The wife and I reserved for only one night, however the hotel was so nice, in a great location and very good price that we decided to stay another night. So the day we were planning to do just that. Until, about 10:00am, when we were taking in some sun on the patio, when workers started removing the furniture. When asked why, they informed us they are clearing the patio for a private wedding at 4:00pm. They did this with no concern of the guest who had already paid for their rooms that night. I was thinking, I'm paying to use these facilities and they are taking them away? Immediately we canceled our next day stay and checked out. I brought this to the attention of the front dest and they agreed. Other than this, the stay was nice. Be advised, the lounge is under construction so before you reserve inquire about that and make sure no private engagements will be going on because you will not be able to use the facilities of the engagement even though you paid for it. One of the only reasons why I booked this hotel was because it was pet friendly and had availability on such short notice. When I made the reservation, I noted that we had a dog. I called a few days in advance just to make sure they had the dog on file and they did not. The gentleman I spoke to said he would make a note to the account and put us in a pet friendly room. I asked if we can check in early since we were driving down and would get there early and he said to call the morning of. I did that, and once again, there was no note about my pet and the front desk had no idea that we were bringing down a dog. When they finally recorded it, I asked if we can check in early and she said to just come by the hotel when we got there and she would let us know. When we arrived in the Outer Banks, we went straight to the Ramada, I went to the front desk asking if we can check in early and they told us there will not be a room until the regular check-in time, 4 PM. We went to the beach until 4 and then came back to the hotel to check in. After checking in, they handed me my key card and told me I was in a room on the second floor. I read on the website that all pet friendly rooms are on the first floor so I questioned it and she said she had no notes saying that we had a pet, but "luckily" she had a couple of pet rooms left on the first floor - and that it's a good thing I told her because we would've been charged $400 if we didn't report having a pet and stayed in a non-pet family room. Not sure how any of that is my fault since I asked in TWO previous phone calls on TWO separate days. Not sure why the staff cannot get their stuff together, but how many times does a person have to request a pet friendly room in order for the reservation to be accurate? Absolutely ridiculous. Little did I know, that was just the tip of the iceberg. I have stayed at other Wyndham hotels before and this was by far, the very worst. Not only was the experience horrendous, the room was filthy (and there was no maid service the entire week because of Covid), the room's back door (which leads to the outdoor dog area) was broken, so there was a huge space around the entire perimeter of the door, allowing all kinds of bugs to get into our room. We were killing at least five flies every day. The room was also super humid, muggy, and uncomfortable because of the extra moisture coming in from the outside, And it smelled of mildew, due to the door not being on properly (all The doors had huge spaces around the edges - we checked as we walked along the outside of the building because originally we were going to ask to have a room changed, but we didn't bother because each room was worse than the next). As soon as we checked in, we saw the room was dirty... the rugs were filthy and smelled, the desk chair had rust all over it, and the side entrance To the building had a broken lock, allowing anyone from the outside to come into the hotel, which is a huge safety risk. Not to mention, for a pet friendly hotel, it was not very pet friendly. They didn't have any dog amenities, not even treats at check in, and when we walked the dog outside in the designated doggy areas, all of the dog stations were empty. There was not one poop bag in the bin, and the garbage was piled so high, the lid wouldn't even close. And obviously nobody was cleaning the outdoor area either, because there was dog feces all over the property (maybe due to The lack of doggie poop bags?!) Absolutely disgusting! When we finally checked out, my dog had to go to the vet because he kept itching and scratching and he was having a bit of fur loss. It turned out, he had mites and I know it's from this filthy, disgusting hotel. Because other than stay there, we did nothing out of the ordinary. I will never, ever stay at this hotel or any Ramada again. This experience has me questioning all hotels under the Wyndham umbrella. It was a dump, and If I can spare just ONE person from this horrific experience, then this post was worth it. There are many other pet friendly hotels in the area... word to the wise - FIND ANOTHER! recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at Ramada Plaza , and let me tell you, it was an absolute nightmare from start to finish. Where do I even begin? Let's start with the bathroom, shall we? It was absolutely revolting. The moment I stepped in, I was greeted by a stench that could only be described as a mix between moldy socks and expired cheese. The sink was littered with loose hair, and to top it off, I found a bloody tissue lurking under the sink like some kind of grotesque hidden treasure. And don't even get me started on the clogged drain, which was practically overflowing with enough hair to make a wig for a Yeti. It was a plumbing nightmare waiting to happen. But the horrors didn't end there. Oh no, they were just getting started. I ventured into the fridge, hoping to find some refreshments, only to be greeted by the sight of old, moldy food staring back at me like something out of a horror movie. It was enough to make my stomach turn. And let's talk about housekeeping, or should I say, the complete lack thereof. The room looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Dirty linens were strewn about haphazardly, and the floor was so dirty and sandy that I felt like I was walking on a beach instead of a hotel room. And to add insult to injury, there was no alarm clock in sight, let alone any outlets to charge my devices. How am I supposed to wake up on time or stay connected without these basic amenities? But perhaps the most infuriating part of the whole experience was the attitude of the manager. When I brought up my concerns, instead of offering a sincere apology or attempting to rectify the situation, they were dismissive and downright rude. It was clear that they couldn't care less about the appalling conditions of their establishment or the satisfaction of their guests. And don't even get me started on the misleading advertising. The pictures on the website bore no resemblance to the grim reality of the hotel. It's as if they were taken in an alternate dimension where cleanliness and basic hygiene standards simply don't exist. In conclusion, unless you enjoy subjecting yourself to filth, incompetence, and terrible customer service, I would strongly advise against staying at Ramada Plaza. Good oceanfront location. Grabbed a bit to eat at peppercorns, the food wasn't bad. Started with a small Greek salad and tried a chili cheese dog along with a burger. They charbroil the burgers and dogs here which we like. Our meals were served with seasoned fries and were reasonably priced. When we walked to our room it was at the furthest end of the carpeted hall, it was difficult to push/pull our luggage on the carpeting. Upon entering our room we noticed it was a bit outdated but as we looked closer we found hair on the pillows, commode, and in the bath tub. Personally I just find that gross. It's something controllable. The other issue was when we went to dinner we noticed the ceiling leaking and water dripping on the floor so we reported it at the front desk. When the maintenance man showed up he said I can fix that, grabbed a trash can sitting in the hallway and put it under the leak and said done now somebody else can deal with it then left. My review is a few parts . We were driving down after work from Ohio--- on weds .... and the front desk person kept telling me to call that day to see if we could get an early check in. Well. That day we started at 8 at night and got at the hotel at 10 am on Thursday. They had our room ready!!!!! We were so happy. (Check in is usually at 4) They were very sweet and accommodating and we got to rest right away. The hotel itself is kind of a work in progress. You can see where they're trying to update. Which is nice. The room was clean and everything was nice. The pool area was nice. I can't imagine it in the busy season because it's not large at all. You have " those" certain ppl that think they own the place and bring everything plus the kitchen sink and blare their music. I am here to tell you that honey---- everybody's doesn't wanna bear Boot Skootin Boogy.... and that's what the magical land of ear buds are for!!!!!!! They just made a new walk way down to the beach and lots of chairs and tables outside which was nice. Now, the restaurant was the biggest let down. The Comfort Inn right next door advertises free breakfast and I guess they did away with this here and added an "affordable" , reasonable and convenient restaurant for their guests in lieu of free breakfasts. We first tried it for breakfast. The little hostess was a gem. She told the shorter older lady with the silver/blonde long bob cut that we were ready. She looked at us. Walked away and never returned. We sat there for awhile , while other ppl that arrived after us got waited on. . I had to flag the little hostess down again and she actually grabbed the other lady who was sweet as pie. Taller gray haired waitress with a heavy southern draw. She was very accommodating and attentive. Breakfast was ok for the price. Now, my husband and I just went tonite (Sunday)for dinner. We chose the ribeye and shrimp. I asked for mine medium rare (aka-- bloody). I have to say this was the worst "ribeye" ever. It was over cooked and about a 1/2" thick...thinnest ribeye south of the mason Dixon line. And---. It was probably 1/3 total gristle and fat. And the waitress, albeit sweet--- never did come back and ask how the steaks were. I didn't feel like making a big deal. But for $61. I won't recommend this place. They tried. The veggies were cut nicely. The salad was good and the bread basket was nice. The steak just wasn't a good cut. If you're not too picky it would be convenient to eat here. But just the fact that the one waitress at breakfast just blew us off and they didn't really act like they cared if we enjoyed our dinners. Was a turn off. Oh. At dinner. We were the ONLY people in the place besides a few at the bar. How can we over cook a steak when it's the ONLY meal you're preparing?????!!!!!! I even told her I still wanted it mooing. Oh welll. Just my 2 cents. we purchased a Groupon for what....-around $700?? Total for 5 nights. I wouldn't do it again. I would look on VRBO and find a condo. Oh. and the microwave/fridge area has ZERO room to prepare anything and no light to see. That the was the other thing that bothered me. We were on a budget and brought our own food. It's kind a like camping. Lol. Sorry. For the average folk. I suppose you would enjoy it. I guess I'm just a snob and have a tad higher standards.
