House: the house was beautifully decorated and it felt like a museum ! 10/10 Bedroom: it was absolutely stunning! Love the antique feeling of the room. It was very clean. I'm one of those ppl who have to change the sheets once I get to any hotel or new place but I didn't even have to this time. Upon arriving, I felt safe and things felt nice and clean. The bed was made beautifully. There was not one spot or pillow out of place! Highly anticipated: The Breakfast Our amazing host cooked a fabulous breakfast. Everything was was and fresh! She made pancakes with blueberries and cut up fresh fruits for us to enjoy. The level of care we received at this bed & breakfast was above and beyond! Our amazing host (she felt like a nana) had sweet treats for us to enjoy! The first night we were there she prepared this exquisite turtle brownies! They were very soft and fluffy. The second night she prepared this beautiful coconut cake that was to die for! We had an issue with our toilet and they immediately went to go fix the issue! The service is out of this world! I felt safe as an LGBTQ+ member there if anybody was wondering about that issue. Please come here and book with them if you're looking for a safe and comfortable stay. We paid about ~150ish per night. It's quiet reasonable. You get your own bathroom and she does have a room available if you want to bring a pet to stay!

I really did like like the place, the owner-operator was very nice and although it was a bit remote. It was very clean and nice. Would I stay there again. Sure!

We particularly liked the very friendly koi in the koi pond which came over to say hi when we approached.

We were welcomed by our host Eric, on arrival who was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Our room was very nice, decorated in a birds of paradise decor and had a sitting room and a large, private bathroom. The house boasted a pool, hot tub, roof top patio and various other outdoor seating areas. It was located on the second row of houses from the beach with about a 3 minute walk to the beach and 5 minutes to the pier. Every morning at 9am hot coffee was available and our hosts served us breakfast that included omelets and a breakfast casserole with veggies from the Margie's own garden. There are only 3 rooms at this B&B so only 6 people maximum can stay at one time. Fortunately, we were the only ones there during this weekend so we had the whole place pretty much to ourselves! The RelaxInn was very close to MANY shops and restaurants, just the perfect location! If you are looking to get away and have a quite time with a hot breakfast served daily, you should check out this place!

The breakfast and sitting area upstairs were inviting & bright. Mimosas for a small fee. We did see a few roaches wandering around but I suspect that's part of living in a warm & wet environment. Bikes available to borrow but beware they're not all in working order. My boyfriend's bike wouldn't allow him to use the brakes without the chain falling off. We had to stop mid ride for him to fix the chain which left his hands greasy for the remainder of our ride to the lighthouse. My main disappointment was location. While it is walking distance to the beach, it's not ON the beach. The town of Buxton was fairly run down. Next time I'd opt to stay in Hatteras, which we actually mistakenly thought we were when we booked.

What an incredible disappointment it was. The comparison was stark. The entire property is in need of attention. The porch swing we enjoyed outside our room (#11) two years ago was sitting on the deck this year (picture attached). The afternoon social advertised for Saturday afternoon did not happen. The boardwalk to the road was unusable and while cordoned off for safety didn't have any repairs during our stay. The beach walkway is a joke, and dangerous. The hot, made to order breakfast we'd enjoyed in 2024 was an embarrassment. Sunday morning's breakfast consisted of two small round store-bought waffles and a flaccid, microwaved piece of something unlike bacon. We chose to skip breakfast on Monday and Tuesday mornings and pay to eat elsewhere. In general, the inn appears to be falling to ruin. The bathroom floor was sticky and clearly unclean. The mini-fridge froze our sodas. We never saw any innkeeping staff on premises other than the nice young man who brought us our breakfast on Sunday morning. The quality of the food was not his fault; clearly, the days of having a cook make special breakfasts of the day are a thing of the past. What in the world has happened? First Colony Inn deserves far better than the lack of care and attention it is currently getting and so do its guests. Kirsten S.
