My husband had an amazing stay at the White Doe Inn celebrating our first wedding anniversary. We stayed in the beautiful Scuppernong Suite that had a fireplace and separate sitting room. We splurged on the charcuterie board upon arrival which was 100% worth it. From 4-5pm they had happy hour with complementary wine and appetizers. The Inn owners were so nice and offered great recommendations for things to see and do in the area. We took their suggestion to have dinner at Salt and Cyprus with waterfront views and great cocktails. In the morning, the inn's breakfast was perfect. Fresh fruit, homemade muffin, coffee, juice, biscuits and gravy, and scrambled eggs. With our short stay, we ran out of time to try out their fire pits and take a bike ride through town. The hosts were delightful and Tonia was an incredible chef. The rooms were recently renovated and ours had a wonderful jacuzzi tub and extremely comfortable bed. Complimentary Happy hour every day at 4pm with some new delectable treat prepared by Tonia and wine. WOW!!!!!!! We went to Manteo (Roanoke Island) and booked here last minute and are so glad we did. This is a 150yr old house and the new owners are absolutely amazing. There spare no expense to make the guests feel like royalty. First of all, high end coffee machine, fresh made cookies every day, ice cream sandwiches in the freezer... Then, the breakfasts are like dining in a Michelin star restaurant. Easily would be $25-30 in a restaurant. They have a happy hour(s) each night from 4 to 6 and serve 3-4 high quality wines and an assortment of local and regional beers. David and Tania are amazing hosts and we will definitely be back. The White Doe Inn far exceeded my expectations in every way. The 1910 house, which is on the National Register of Historic Houses, has been lovingly restored and beautifully decorated. We were warmly welcomed and before being taken to our room, we were given a tour where we told when breakfast would be served, informed of the afternoon happy hour and where the treats for each room are left each afternoon. Let me say, these are not to be missed! We were also shown the guest refrigerator where waters and homemade ice cream sandwiches reside. We loved the Turret Room with its sunny, calming decor and balcony. The bed was very comfortable and every convenience we needed was provided. Our room featured a fireplace with gas logs which would add to the romantic atmosphere had it been cool weather. There are two rooms that are pet-friendly. The breakfast was a real treat. Each morning we enjoyed a four course Southern breakfast in the beautiful garden. Our breakfasts included fresh fruit, grits, Garvy biscuits, omelette, French toast, pancakes were all delicious. The perfect way to start your day. The location is terrific. Located just a few short blocks from Historic Downtown's restaurants and shops, it is an easy walk to shop and imbibe. If you prefer, bicycles and helmets are available for your use. Access to the rest of the Outer Banks is only two blocks away. We were able to reach Corolla to the north in just over an hour and Hatteras to the south in an hour. You can't find a better location to explore most of the Outer Banks. The White Doe Inn has beautiful lawn and gardens. Relax with a glass of wine on the shaded patio, in a rocking chair on the large porch, or around the fire pit. Definitely enjoy the finely curated landscaping. The White Doe Inn provided us with one of the truly nicest getaways we have experienced. It is the perfect location for couples. They do allow "Well behaved children over 12", but this is a place for couples. read more

Welcoming staff & very cute B&B. We arrived during a torrential downpour, and it was cool sitting underneath the porch listening & watching the storm. The owner gave us a great recommendation for dinner - The Blue Water - food is amazing! Breakfast was delicious & the young man and young lady who served us were both polite & efficient. A recommendation that I have is to have all the guests around one table instead of small 2-party tables. From other B&B experiences, this was always a fun time getting to know other people. My only complaint, and in my eyes, a huge one, was that our room was infested with ants, which I discovered in the morning. In addition to the ants being in the window seat cushion, they were also at the foot of our bed, and some managed to get into my clothing. I made the situation known to the young lady in the kitchen as well as showing her. When we left, I texted the management, and received the following response: "thank you so much for letting us know. We've been battling the ants with all this rain. We'll get it taken care of." Having paid a decent price for our room, it would have been nice to minimally received an apology. read more

We recently returned from our five day getaway to The White Doe Inn! Wow, just wow, it was more than we had hoped! Just a lovely and serene Inn. A beautifully and meticulously renovated historical property, preserving its history while implementing modern amenities! The owners Dave and Tonia elevated our stay to perfection! They are personable and comfortable to be around. They truly want you to have the best experience and you can feel the love they have for their Inn and their guests. We enjoyed daily gourmet breakfast prepared by chef Tonia, each day was more delicious and each course was creatively presented! There was a lovely server for 2 of our days, I didn't get her name but she had dark hair and was so sweet, we chatted about our pets and Tonia's freshly made dishes, she's a gem to the Inn! After exploring the charming areas for the day, we returned to the Inn for the daily social hour, (it's actually 2 hours!) Select wines and both savory and sweet house made snacks were provided! It was great to sit and play cards, games, read a book, or socialize with other guests as well as Dave and Tonia, who share their amazing stories of how they came to own the Inn! Wow - am I glad I picked this B&B to stay at on our much needed vacation! What a wonderful location & setting! Location: On Roanoke Island - the perfect place to stay as it's away from the touristy area of OBX & very close to the charming center of town in Manteo! Parking is on the side-street. B&B Experience: The Garden room was amazing with our own entrance, sitting area, & spacious bathroom with a whirlpool bathtub for 2! The breakfast was so good & prepared carefully in to go containers due to COVID-19. I loved the ice cream sandwiches - a little too much ;)! The complimentary glass of wine & snacks in the afternoon were fabulous & we made friends with people we met at the B&B. Disposable masks & sanitizer were abundant & the place was very clean! Ensure to bring bug spray as there are a LOT of bugs outside! Plenty of places outside to sit & enjoy the tranquility. Hospitality: Wonderful! The chef would come out & describe the breakfast. This was a quaint B&B in an old historic house in Manteo, NC. It was our first experience at a B & B. It was clean and nicely decorated inside. My husband and I reserved the East Lake room and it didn't disappoint. We had a shared balcony, claw foot tub in our spacious bathroom, and a fireplace next to the bed. The B&B also had complimentary wine, beer, bottled sodas, bottled water, tea, coffee, and snacks for the guests to access to most of the day. The house was just over the bridge from Kill Devil Hills, NC and main areas of OBX and it was just a 5 minute walk to downtown Manteo and the pier. COVID-19 safety protocols were applied and followed: they put plenty of hand sanitizer and mask stations in necessary areas of the main level and in the guest rooms. The staff also follows COVID 19 safety protocols by providing all breakfast and afternoon snacks in plastic containers so you can eat in your room or in their indoor and outdoor areas. Now to the extra good stuff. What really made our stay even more comfortable and awesome was Pam!! From check-in to check-out, Pam always made us feel welcomed and took really care of us. It was fun talking to her and she would leave us extra treats just because. Pam made these delicious ice cream cookie sandwiches (chocolate chip and Reese's) and it was soooo good. She was so personable and attentive that my husband and I convinced each other that we should come back to White Doe Inn this Thanksgiving or something. Pam's dog was also popular with the guests. He was so adorable. Lee was the chef and he made some very delicious breakfast! Luckily, we stayed there a week so we got to eat it almost everyday. He was the nicest chef ever. Lee would bring the food to us, when we chose to eat outside in the cold (don't judge, their outdoor patio was really pretty), and he would explain what each food item was. My husband booked here for our one year anniversary, and we both love it. Very friendly staff, who immediately showed us around. We love they give you snacks, treats, drinks, s'mores packs, popcorn, even a glass of wine at your leisure. Very cozy feeling, and close to places to walk around. We either walked or biked to restaurants or to just get out. We also loved the 4 course breakfast, very good. There is also a beautiful backyard which features two fire pits. I've traveled weekly for over 25 years and so have a lot of experience with various lodgings. Rarely do I come across any that I feel is exceptional until now. The staff is friendly and accommodating, the breakfast flavorful, fun and plentiful, the evening snacks, wine and beer a nice treat, the rooms are tastefully decorated and immaculately clean. We loved that we could borrow beach towels, umbrellas and beach chairs by simply asking. BUT the true sign of an exceptional experience is not in all they do for you when things go right but in how they handle those times when an issue arises. Our smoke detector in our room decide to go off at 6 AM one morning for a few moments. When it happened a second time I realized it was just our room and not an accidental toast burning in the kitchen, which I've experienced at hotels in the past. The White Doe Staff performed flawlessly and resolved the issue politely, efficiently and with a sincere apology. We slept like babies the rest of our stay. We spent 7 days at this lovely inn and have never felt so welcome. We are definitely planning a return visit. read more

This is a beautiful place and the attendant and owner, Pam, was so accommodating to me for a late check-in. I was traveling on vacation and to arrive to such a tremendously beautiful place after traveling the outer banks at night during a thunderstorm made the trip so worth it. The rooms are immaculate and they pay very close attention to detail in terms of even the little things. I was surprised to have a fresh sprig of lavender and a delicious piece of pound cake in my room when I arrived. Parking is free on a side street This place is Southern hospitality realized. The breakfast was all gourmet prepared by their kind and welcoming Chef, and Pam even came out to chat with me and get to know me before I checked out during breakfast. She was and is so sweet. Why stay anywhere else in Manteo? I love this place. It was love at first sight, and whenever I return for a visit with family or while traveling alone I will definitely stay here. My Hubby took me here for my birthday and a little vacation. We spent four nights in the Garden Suite. This was a great room. There is a huge comfortable bed, sitting area, and a large bathroom. The whirlpool tub was awesome. Big tall shower with all the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash you need for your entire stay. Our room has a private entrance and outside the door is a little sitting area with a Koi pond. Very relaxing place. It is on the first floor. The service is exceptional! The four course breakfast was a special treat every day. Convenient to everything. Anyone will give you a recommendation. Manteo is defiantly the place to stay. Remember this is an older home that you are sharing with other people. There are little imperfections (It's on the Historical Register). You can hear the other guests the same as you can in your own home. None of this was a negative for us. This is an amazing B&B! I happened upon it when Highway 12 was closed during my visit to OBX (thus preventing me from reaching the house I rented) and safe to say this was one of the best last minute change of plans. The place was absolutely beautiful and Pam was the best. She gave me some great recommendations of things to do in both Manteo and Nags Head, as well as was also super flexible as my travel schedule was subject to the reopening of the highway causing me to stay two additional nights. The breakfast was also amazing and due to covid, they were put in to-go boxes. In addition, I have severe food allergies and they were able to easily accommodate them, which is always a major plus for me. They also had complimentary wine and snacks in the afternoon that you could enjoy in one of the many outdoor and indoor seating areas. (Be sure to bring bug spray as OBX has bugs everywhere!) All in, I would highly recommend and I plan to go back for a night or two during my next visit to the OBX. read more

My husband and I stayed at The White Doe Inn for New Year's Eve and enjoyed it so much that we want to make it a tradition! We stayed in Manteo for the fireworks last year, but this was a completely different experience. Pam is a charismatic host and the chef Lee was fantastic, as was the menu...did I mention homemade ice cream sandwiches and fancy coffee whenever you want! Enough said. The whole inn is cozy and comfortable and we loved our room with the fireplace. We felt welcome and the staff made sure it was a safe getaway. 5 stars for cleanliness and following covid-19 protocols and some. We can't wait to go back for more memories! Stayed two nights in mid December. Due to my wife's broken ankle we had some trepidations about dealing with stairs. Pam, the ever helpful innkeeper, moved us to the garden room which suited our every need. It's a delightful inn made all the more welcoming by Pam's warm and sincere attentions. I couldn't end the review without mentioning the breakfast prepared by Justin. I encourage you to come to the table hungry. My mom and I LOVED our stay!!! Pam was so kind and welcoming! The rooms were comfortable and cozy. There's a fancy coffee machine you can use whenever you like, old timey sodas on hand, homemade cookies, a popcorn station, a well lit jigsaw puzzle table, and a library with plenty of local reading selections. We enjoyed our yummy homemade breakfast (included with your stay) on the covered porch in the company of cardinals and flowers on the beautiful grounds. The location is super close (less than 1/4 mile) to the downtown area- all the shops, restaurants/bars, and the waterfront. Manteo is not to be missed if you are doing an outer banks vacation. We absolutely loved the White Doe Inn. We got in late because we miscalculated travel time & we got lost (a few times) but Pam took great care of us! She left us a snack in our room along with a bottle of Prosecco (our favorite!) to celebrate our 6th anniversary. Pam placed out a doggie bed & doggie bowls for our dog even though we brought our own - she truly went the extra mile! We had the garden room & it was perfect for our needs & even though it was winter, the gardens were still beautiful! Pam made us feel at home & we were so thankful for the kindness after such a long journey. We had a delicious breakfast in the morning - the Chef is talented! We wished we had more time to stay there but we were moving on to a resort to spend the rest of our anniversary celebration at. I am a huge fan of B&Bs, and what a surprise when I checked in and the young lady who was showing us the premise and such told us that this B&B was listed in the 'creme de la creme' list of B&Bs in the states! I do have to admit, the inn was very charming. My husband and I had reserved the Garrett Room, and this was decorated with Asian antiques and such. The bed was one of those foam beds, and it was somewhat firm. Since this room is on the third floor, it tends to get warm very easily. There was, however, an extra AC unit in place, so that was good. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub for two, and next to it was the fireplace (in which you switch on). There are some bath products, and one of them happened to be bath salts that were nice to dump in the tub and relax in. There were a few noticeable stains on the carpet, but it was overall clean, nonetheless. One thing I was quite iffy about was the fact that my husband found a massive amount of termites by the tub (which was located near the bathroom windows), which he told me afterwards (since I would have had a massive freakout). The breakfast was prepared by a chef that came from a local restaurant, and it was a 4-course breakfast: pineapple with orange marmalade with shredded mint leaves; grits with some shredded cheese and a spoonful of butter; German eggs (which was like an egg souflee - cheesy, airy, and greatly seasoned); and cream puffs drizzled with chocolate for dessert. The chef was nice. During the evenings, you can get sodas, water, ice, and random baked treats and goods that are set out on the dining table if you happen to get the late-night munchies. The White Doe is amazing! Husband and I had an amazing time with our dog. We can't wait to go back and enjoy the amenities, location, and people. First, the grounds are beautiful. The first night we were busy exploring the banks, but the second night we luckily hung around the inn. We had s'mores (which they provided) at the outdoor fire pit they have, had take out on the back grassy lawn, and enjoyed some complementary wine. The location is great for going anywhere in the banks (we chose to go to the northern outer banks). Every employee was incredibly nice and accommodating. We stayed in the Scuppernong Room, which was lovely, bright, and simple. The bed was super comfortable and we slept very well. The only slightly negative comment about the room is that my husband is 6'3" and did hit his head a few times on the sloped ceiling. The breakfasts were large and pretty good, but not really our favorite (each for a slightly different reason). I am definitely not the easiest to please and would LOVE stay here again. read more

Our first visit to the White Doe Inn was magical. Each room is uniquely decorated to highlight the character of this historic home with luxurious comforts. Innkeeper Pam is the hostess with the mostess and certainly made us feel instantly at home, even part of the family. We laughed with her like we'd known her all our lives! I can not say enough good things about my stay. My best friend and I came for a girls weekend away and we got so much more than we could have ever thought of. Let's start from the time we arrived. We got in at about 5 on Friday evening. We were met with the warmest welcome, I am sure had we not been in COVID times, we would have been greeted with a hug by not only the receptionist, but the owner and inn keeper as well. We were given a tour of the inn, shown our snacks (YES, You get snacks, EVERYDAY), then taken to our room. We stayed in the East Lake room and it was phenomenal. We had a large (shared) balcony, our own fireplace, an amazing claw foot tub, and a queen bed. The room was nothing but exquisite. The next morning we woke up to the delectable smells of breakfast, made by the inns chef, Lee. I wish we could taken him home with us. All of the food they served, breakfast and snacks were beyond what we could have dreamt. Lee put his entire foot into making those grits and even shared his recipe on how he made them with us! On our last day we were discussing keeping our scones from breakfast for our snack on the ride home, and do you know they told us to enjoy our scones and gave us a snack for our trip! They made us feel at home for the weekend. The location of the inn was very convenient and we enjoyed walking to the water and "downtown" area. The breakfast was also to die for! I have celiac disease and finding a place that can accommodate my need for "gluten free" is nearly impossible. My first bed and breakfast that i had ever been to and it was definitely more then i could of ever asked for. My boyfriend at the time had brought me here as a surprise and the whole atmosphere was so relaxed and welcoming. The staff was so sweet, as soon as we got there we were greeted with a warm hello and a tour of the entire old Victorian house. This place was beautiful. I was in awe the entire time i think my boyfriend enjoyed seeing my reaction more then the actual place! Our room was on the third floor and i think was the biggest in the house. It had a huge king sized bed with a fireplace and also a jacuzzi in the bathroom with another fireplace. I think i took 1,000 pictures of it. The location was another plus by being only a couple blocks away from the little town that had cute, quaint shops right on the water. And at night when we were looking for something to do, a quick 10 minute ride on the highway lead us to some decent bars to sit and have a drink. I'm not the morning person but he made sure we didn't miss the 5-course breakfast served promptly at 8 outside on the veranda. The food was amazing! It was the first time this northerner ever had grits! Each couple had their own private table and it was set up so pretty. I felt like i should of been wearing a dress! My wife and I spent 3 days here and had an awesome time. We frequent B&Bs all over the country and this was one of the best we've ever been to. It had all the amenities you could possibly want (down to an incredible single serve coffee machine straight out of Starbucks 2020) without losing too much of the B&B feel. The breakfasts were 4 course affairs and left us stuffed (and we have big appetites). The rooms were all quite nice. We stayed in the Virginia Dare room which I'd imagine could get quite hot in the summer but was PERFECT when we stayed in late November. It's location is also great for walks to the coast (not beach front though) and through the quaint town of Manteo. They even have guest bikes (including the two seater) that are free to use. Only potential drawback is that it's run TOO professionally. What I mean by that is that it's definitely not a ma and pa B&B....this thing is a business run a little more like a hotel. I'm writing this after finishing a divine breakfast in our bed in the garden room. Our fireplace is on, rain is pattering in the garden, and I can hear ospreys in their near by nest. The hosts have been welcoming and easy to be around. The inn and grounds are beautiful and quiet. The freezer is stocked with homemade ice cream sandwiches and Pam gave us a perfect recommendation for a dinner spot. Come stay here. You'll be glad. read more

Gorgeous old house, centrally located to many attractions and off the main highway so away from the bustle of Kitty Hawk. Wonderful four course breakfast every morning and snacks in the evening. It is very clean and well kept. An added plus of bikes and other beach items, I highly recommend if you want a laid back trip to the outer banks. read more

My wife and I visited again for a short stay. Once again the White Doe Inn was magnificent! The B&B is absolutely the best in the OBX. Pam and Chip are always welcoming and have done allot to make the inn even more enjoyable. Pam has done allot to continue the vision of Bob and Bebe and I just hope that the place never changes as this is paradise on earth! Rooms are beautiful and the amenities are nothing short of top notch. The breakfast was outstanding in one of the nicest venue in Manteo.
