The gentleman working there was kind enough to stay open after hours for us as we were arriving about 30 minutes til closing. Generous FRESH servings of delicious seafood that seals Sugar Shack as my go to for the best seafood in the area! The sunset on the sound was stunning

Paid $25 for 3 oysters, 4 fish nuggets, a handful of baby shrimp, and a baby's handful of fries Portion sizes are not worth the money

Love the views, service is good. We ordered 4lbs of steamed Alaskan snow crabs. They were $28 a lb! At home in md we can get them for about $15! I wish they would put some apple cider vinegar in their pot though when they cook them. It really helps balance out the fishy taste. They also mixed in some king crablegs in our meal which I didn't care for considering I don't like them nor did I pay for those.

    Salmon! So good

Good sea food fresh from the water made to order. Moist the way it is supposed to be!

Came here one day for lunch in between beach time. They offer both inside and outside seating. It was a little windy that day so I sat inside. I ordered a platter of shrimp and hush puppies. It came with coleslaw and kettle chips made in house. I also ordered a side of hush puppies. Very good and fresh!

So good. After years of eating at a variety of restaurants my friend and I tried Sugar Shack out for the first time. We both ordered the tuna steak sandwich. I got it with fries. My friend had the okra. Both were good. The steak was huge! I tried the she crab soup which was good. The best part was the service. So attentive and friendly. Can't wait to return. I even brought home a pound of tuna steak. It was so drag.

My mom needed a break from my dad so I took her for a ride up the island just, to get her out of the house. I'd been to Sugar Shack in the past and thought she'd enjoy lunch there. Unfortunately, her first impression was really bad. She is quite disabled and uses a walker. The handicap parking spaces weren't really paved, I'm not quite sure how to describe it but it was kind of a honeycomb of concrete with the holes filled with sand. Getting her walker over it was nearly impossible, though somehow, we managed. I had to pull out and pick her up in the center of the parking lot on our way out. Also, the handicapped ramp was rather steep and was difficult for her to get up. While significant, I'm glad to say that this was the only glitch during our visit. The indoor seating area is small but there is plenty of room outside on picnic tables. You order at the counter - the menu is on a chalkboard but they also have printed menus if you'd like. We were told the fish of the day then given a couple of minutes to decide. I opted for the shrimp and flounder with okra and my mom stuck with just the flounder with fries. Both of us were thrilled with our meals. My mom's meal had two pretty good size filets, a giant pile of fries and some slaw. The fish was fried up perfectly and the fries were different in a really good way - I'm not sure if you'd call them battered or what, but they were soooo crispy and absolutely delicious. The slaw was fresh and crispy and a nice complement to the meal. My meal came with one filet and a good portion of nice size shrimp. They also were just right. The okra was fried crisp - no hint of sliminess that you sometimes get with okra. Next time though, I was going to be sure to order those wonderful fries. We finished our lunch and continued on with mom's break from dad. But, that's not the end of my Sugar Shack story. The next day, I had to leave my beloved Hatteras and head back home. I was all packed up and I planned on grabbing lunch on my way off the island. I was driving right past Sugar Shack so my lunch stop was a no brainer. This time i ordered a shrimp plate. I can't tell you how many shrimp there were - I was going to count them for you but I was eating while driving so thought it better to just let that pass. The shrimp were awesome, they really were. And this time, I did get those extra crispy strips of potato we call fries. Everything was delicious. I hated leaving my family, I hated leaving Hatteras, but at least I did have a good send off. Hatteras Island is my "happy place". I think Sugar Shack may just become my "happy restaurant".

During my Yelp OBX exploration I discovered Sugar Shack, adding them to our 'must-try' after drooling over photos of their "Shack Attack Po Boy". When we arrived, the place was a bit mis-leading- first I worried I got the address wrong because we only saw the Sugar Creek restaurant, then when we found the shack upon entering we saw the fish market, but we finally located the menu, realized we were in the right place, and were able to order. I was super bummed to learn they had removed the Shack Attack Po'boy from their menu. I had to opt for trying the combo po boy offered (including only shrimp & oysters) with a side of slaw, corn on the cob, and an order of hush puppies appetizer. They had indoor and outdoor seating, we chose their gorgeous outdoor patio, overlooking the water. The sandwich was quite large, packed with freshly fried seafood. I thought they bun could have used some love (by either toasting it or adding more sauce smothered on) and the seafood could have had bolder seasoning, the sandwich was quite yummy but really relied on the yum yum sauce. The coleslaw was quite delicious, not too heavy on the mayo, the corn was super juicy and sweet, and the hush puppies were crispy, with a dense moist inside filling, not too greasy. The food was tasty, the prices were reasonable, the view and area was beautiful, the staff was friendly. A really great lunch spot!

We were going to another establishment but they were closed because their season has not started so me and my sweetheart came to a lil quaint hole in the wall. This lil place had good She Crab soup, and a departure from my normal delicious Hatteras Clam Chowder, Served in modest styrofoam bowls. Aw we venture into our main courses I ordered the seafood platter with catfish, scallops, shrimp, sweet potatoes fries and scrumptious it was The wife ordered jumbo shrimp and catfish special which was equally delicious. So if your in Nags Head I would stop by this lil digs and enjoy great service friendly people and good food!!!!

We stopped at the Sugar Shack on the recommendation of a local resident of Nags Head, and we are so glad we did. The raw oysters were varied in size and all were delicious. This was our first time trying Hatteras style clam chowder and I think it may no be my favorite style. There was lots of flavor with just a hint of heat. We followed with the fish and chips. The fish was white and flaky and crispy and not greasy or soggy at all. The chips were crisp and cooked to perfection. In addition to the tasty food, we appreciated the friendly and prompt service. It was a bit cool so we sat inside, but still had awesome water views. p.s. We stopped by again the following day for more Hatteras clam chowder!

I had the blackened mahi-mahi BLT sandwich which was perfectly cooked and served with over a pound of french fries. Not going to lie; the fries were fantastic. Nicely seasoned and not greasy. I ended up eating the mahi open-faced to avoid spilling on myself but the fish, tomato slice and lettuce were all delicious. It also came with a crisp pickle spear. My wife got the ceasar salad and added a skewer of blackened shrimp. The shrimp were tasty but could have stood a little more spice. They have a nice wine selection including a good selection available by the glass. Also a nice beer selection with some local/NC beers on tap. I observed all of the staff being very friendly and helpful to patrons throughout the restaurant. I will definitely be back and looking forward to trying it for dinner.

This new location has a second floor! They have daily specials, though I'll always get the fried oysters if they're available. I and my family and friends have always loved anything we get here - delicious! BMBG is family-owned, and you can tell -- the service is top notch. At the front door they have a large selection of BMBG apparel -- take some of Blue Moon home with you! While there, check out the fantastic fireplace made of oyster shells -- I took a picture for you.

Sea Chef is where fresh, quality seafood, a full bar and a casual atmosphere collide. If you don't know much about this spot you may be surprised to find such high quality food served at the local fishing inlet. I went for the shrimp burger and it didn't disappoint. Large shrimp are somehow formed into a patty and served on a potato roll with a somewhat spicy sauce, fresh julienne carrots and arugula. On a good weather day it's easy to sit outside on the second story deck and watch the people, boats and tides come and go. If the weather isn't cooperating, there is seating inside too. To extend your stay, order a drink from the full bar or opt for an ice cream sandwich made by local Surfin' Spoon frozen yogurt company.
