They may not have the typical amenities of a 5 star hotel, but they do check all of the necessary boxes. This hotel is clean, comfortable, and well-maintained and It offers exceptional customer service. The rooms are spacious, well-equipped, and provide a range of thoughtful amenities like quality bedding, pillows, and towels, and a coffee maker. Although oriental NC is small and a town that is all about the water, it is not the most walkable town in NC, which is why location is key. Not only is this hotel closer to everything that matters, they have the best view right off the water than any other hotel in town. This is the most comfortable stay in town. Cheers!

It was ok, kind of like a Motel 6. What you need, but just…read more First, some things that were unusually nice: - The location right next to the water and a nice park - An easy and pleasant walk to many businesses and the main marina - Generally clean and tidy - Good water pressure from a nice showerhead and well marked soap containers in the shower - Full-sized coffee maker and microwave Here are some things that weren't so nice: - upon entry, there was a strong chemical smell - Importantly, there were very few outlets near the nightstands for chargers and other accessories - The bed made a fair bit of noise as you got in and out - The TV was small and would not connect to the network, and there was nobody available to help - Fridge was up against a wall to the right, but the door hinges were on the left so it was difficult to get into - There is one sink that shares kitchen and bathroom duty - The water got barely hot enough for a shower and took quite a while to get there - The floor was quite slippery when it was wet - The blinds would not raise and lower correctly - The toilet room door was very awkward; it was in the way as you went in, and if you tried to leave it open, it would swing into your legs - The heater was quite noisy - The heat was turned off when we arrived so it was chilly in the room - There was a barking dog at 3 AM on our first night - There is an instruction manual for the room, but it was clearly out of date - No windows in the bathroom or kitchen area - A fair bit of dirt on the door from hands - Coffee tasted stale - a kitchen, but no table despite being a large room

Big bathroom with lots of vanity space and a large mirror - and nice bathroom products. Working hair dryer. Nice kitchenette area with coffee maker, mini fridge, microwave, sink, ice bucket, and cabinets. It's out of the way from Nags Head by about an hour, but close to Manteo.

Someone did come fix it. The water pressure is very low in the shower and the sink is super low. The ice machine is not working so they give you a block of ice if ask at the desk. The continental breakfast was really good. The pancake machine is a great touch. The little one enjoy the pancake freshly made for them. The cinnamon bun they always served are still full of southern sweetness. Great breakfast after my morning bike ride. The pool remains to be the highlight of my stay. I can't swim, but walking in it for couple hours is great for my arthritis knees. The gym is small. A bike, treadmill, an elliptical. Each piece of equipment has its own tv. Which on the bike the TV did not work. Nor was the TV on the wall working. There's was no sanitizing wipes available. The room was not vacuumed or dusted. The elevators are not being wiped down daily. Adv easy as this would be to be wiped down and it looking bad that you want a napkin simply to hit the floor button. Not good at all. Definitely all this place needs is a caring staff. A manager that wants his hotel to be the best hotel. I hope they get it back to the standards that made me want to return.

We ended up at Captain's Landing more or less by accident (at the last minute we decided to take…read morethe Cedar Island-Ocracoke ferry instead of driving via Manteo to Hatteras Island, and this was the only hotel we found with room -- most hotels on Ocracoke close in winter, and one that was open, Pony Island, didn't answer its phone or return our calls.) A helpful person at NC Ferries gave us the tip on Captain's Landings. We're so glad we did! We got the next to last room available at this inn, and probably on the island, a one-bedroom, one and a half bath suite for just $110. Rates in summer rise to $280, but there's a discount for weekly stays, and I would guess that this place stays fully booked much of the time. The inn, painted a light yellow and patterned after another, long-gone hotel on the island, the Ponzer Hotel, is owned by a ninth generation Ocracoker, Betty Chamberlin, and her husband. It is perched right on Silver Lake (the Ocracoke harbor) in the heart of the village, within walking or biking distance to just about everything, including one of the best and most pristine stretches of Hatteras National Seashore beach on the entire Outer Banks. In a Frommer's guidebook I wrote to the coast of the Carolinas and Georgia years ago, I rated this 14 miles of Ocracoke beach the best beach in the three states. In my view, it still is. You're also just a short bike or hike away from the lighthouse and the shops and restaurants in and around the village. Although they are closed in winter, you'll probably find as most do that the Flying Melon and the Back Porch are the two top restaurants on the island, and that Howard's Pub is a great watering hole. On this visit, we ate at Jason's for dinner -- it has good, fresh seafood and probably the best pizza anywhere around. The views across the harbor, including the Ocracoke Lighthouse, are wonderful. Our first-floor suite had everything we needed -- fully equipped kitchen, a balcony overlooking the inn's 10 boat slips and the water, a pleasant living room with a large flat screen TV with DirecTV and DVD player, and a comfortable bedroom with a quality queen bed. There's free Wi-Fi. The manager is very friendly and helpful, and she gave us good advice on the three restaurants that are open for dinner this time of year. We've visited Ocracoke many times during annual stays at Avon or Rodanthe on Hatteras Island, but I have only stayed overnight on the island only a couple of times. This visit, in late February, we lucked out on the weather. It can be surprisingly cold on the OBX in winter, but this time it was sunny and around 70 degrees in the day, perfect springlike weather. Ocracoke is one of the jewels of the North Carolina coast, and in our book Captain's Landing is the top place to stay on Ocracoke.
