We did both the half day fishing trip and the sunset dolphin cruise. The trips went well…read more Keep in mind that these boating trips are highly dependent on the weather and what may seem like good condition conditions on land are not always the same out on the ocean. The trip can get canceled, so it's best to book them during a time where you'll still be able to reschedule if needed. Both our fishing trip and the sunset cruise were canceled due to poor conditions, but because I booked them earlier in the week, we were able to reschedule and still do both later in the week. My daughter (who is only 9) got sea sick on the fishing trip, which was a bummer but the crew and other passengers were very kind and helpful. There needed up being several sick people on the trip. It seems like a norm for this kind of thing. I guess you don't know until you try it. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more info about how long it would take to get out of the sound and how long you would actually get to fish. Of the 4 hours we booked, we fished for maybe a little over an hour. It took 1 hour to get out and 1 hour to get back. Then there is moving around in between. My son loved it though. He caught several fish and was able to take a couple home. Overall, it was an interesting experience and I would take my son again. The sunset dolphin cruise was great. The crew was awesome and the music was nice. We didn't see any dolphin but I knew booking that it was a maybe. I'm a glass half full kind of person, so it depends on your expectations and how you handle things. Just cruising around on a boat with the sun going down was super nice. I was a little worried because it said smoking was allowed on the boat, but thankfully no one was smoking because it would've made me sick and I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much. Another cool highlight of the trip was that on the sunset cruise there was a kid fishing off the back (a family member of the captain I assume) and he allowed my son to fish with him. A fish was caught, and he told my son he could take it home. The captain even fillet the fish at the dock for us. It was such a fun and unique experience. Everyone run Miss Hatteras was great!

Our leader for the trip was Captain KP Scott, also the owner, and is supported by first mates Chase and Wolfie. Natalie Scott is also a Captain but most frequently is the one booking your trip over the phone and does all kind of other important tasks. All were friendly, helpful and professional. The half day trip is approximately six or seven miles off shore. Trigger fish and black sea bass are most commonly caught. I have to say, never renting a property through Midgett before, I was pleasantly surprised. The house was VERY clean and so well stocked with anything we could possibly need. The pool was definitely a HUGE plus of this house as well. We spent hot mornings at the beach and came back and spent a lot of time at the pool. We booked 2 weeks - Below are the conditions we walked into- Southern Cross 58901 South Beach Dr Hatteras, NC 27943 United States Checked in today (8/23) - pungent odor of mold/mildew throughout the house- first floor kitchen cabinets above the stove were filled with mold - rental agency immediately came and cleaned. There is mold on the all sliders to decks, , "soft wall" with obvious water damage in bedrooms on the 2nd floor. Prominent odor on lowest level - Lower level bedroom (closest to the pool) the slider is nailed shut. 3 lounge broken lounge chairs at the pool. Outdoor shower filled with inflatables. Upper level, esp kitchen was not clean- floors with crumbs & countertops dirty- the renters cleaned upon arrival. Very disappointing entrance to the house - it needs assessed for water damage, mold & mildew! WiFi is slow & spotty - requires rebooting - and 3 visitors have WFH obligations Toaster is filled with rust and the drip Coffee pot - coffee pot has a rusty warmer as well as the spring under the basket is malfunctioning and kicks off when brewing Both of these are "everyday" comforts and advertised for the home in "amenities" that we would appreciate replacements for Rain concerns- Thursday- Sat the forecast calls for rain, the all sliding glass doors on the top & second floor will require some type of mats to catch the leaking. We used beach towels yesterday (8/24) during the rain to control the river of water that was produced as it rained but will expect an alternative method now that you are aware of the problem - Photos- I am including a few photos of the top floor mold & water damage as described - All sliding doors are leaking when it rains and have water damage Sliding (all) doors have mold at the base The front sliding door (facing the sound) when raining leaks profusely into the house Master bath (2nd floor to the right facing ocean) sink to the right drains extremely slow Shower head need cleaned to open the spouts Master bath (to the left) bath jets are moldy (we cleaned) Microwave was rusty and unusable Coffee machine (drip pot) was broken - unusable Pool lights do not function Pool table felt is unusable Game room fridge is rusted inside and out General cleaning - walls are dirty, kitchen & bathrooms require a "deep clean" TV in bunk bed room was cracked and unusable Electricity in half the kitchen blew - and was fixed when called in We contacted Midgett and they stated "we have told the owner, but she doesn't do anything" I find this less than satisfactory, as Midgett employees housekeepers, inspectors and even made a comment " I knew it was empty last week so I went over and turned the fans on to help eliminate the mildew order" but yet - the house has 4-5 star rating? This is false advertising! And unacceptable to push all ownership on the owner when Midgett is renting - Very disappointing This house is a health hazard- If I could give "0" stars I would -

Your vacation is an investment that you protect with INSURANCE. Period. Midgett Realty sells it. You can buy it from their broker or you can buy it from the company of your choosing. It costs pennies in comparison to the cost of a vacation rental. The home owner still has a mortgage to pay whether the road to HIS INVESTMENT is accessible or not. His insurance does cover YOUR vacation, just the loss of his property. If his property was not damaged, it's not like the insurance company is giving him a dime, whether there is a road or not. He SHOULD keep your money. You signed a contract saying that you were willing to lose your money if there was a hurricane or you had a personal emergency and couldn't make it. You gambled and lost and now you have sour grapes.

Feat in the Sand #975 - Avon, NC…read more We will start with the good: Great location! Very nice home with a lots of bedrooms, bathrooms, two refrigerators, a nice washer and driver, a nice hot tub and a large pool. We loved the gates for the steps, the high chair, games/puzzles, and a large selection of books. Lots of silverware, dishes, and pots and pans. The arcade games were also a big hit. Now the bad: COCKROACHES! Dirty upon arrival. Screened in porch had cans and cigarette butts left behind. The home looked like it had been tidied but not cleaned. It smelled bad. We spent the first hour of our vacation cleaning. We bought febreeze and Lysol spray/wipes. We swept and vacuumed. (We had to clean the vacuum as there was something nasty and sticky in it.) Ceiling fans were dirty and there was mold in multiple areas of the home. Screws sticking up out of the deck. One chair was broken and whoever had placed it like it was fine until someone sat in it. Grass at volleyball court wasn't mowed until Thursday so we didn't get to use it. Beds (all of them) were terribly uncomfortable. Sheets were cheap and felt like a paper towel from a gas station. Comforters were dirty, food stuck to them. Couch was disgusting with crumbs all over. The Keurig was broken and we were told that it would be replaced the following day. That day came and went. After asking, we were told that the owners did not want to pay to replace it. I would NOT recommend Surf or Sound. The house itself overall has a lot of amenities but would not stay again because of the cockroaches and terrible beds.

Completely unacceptable condition for an $8,000/ "week" vacation rental…read more I am a licensed home inspector and home builder and I can tell you that the condition of Feat in the sand #975 was completely unacceptable. We paid approximately $8,000 for this rental and expected a clean, properly maintained home. Instead, we arrived to sand in the bedding, body hair and dust from previous guests, extremely overgrown grass, and numerous maintenance issues. That level of cleanliness is unacceptable at any price, let alone an $8,000 rental. More concerning is the visible mold/microbial growth around the HVAC register and on the ceilings, along with apparent condensation/moisture at the vent. As someone who works in construction and understands building conditions, this is not something I would expect to see in a professionally managed vacation property. We also reported the overgrown grass, which was approximately a foot and a half tall, and it remained that way three days later. With young children staying at the property, leaving the grounds in that condition was unacceptable. The biggest issue isn't that a rental property can have an occasional maintenance problem. Problems happen. The problem is that this property was turned over to paying guests in this condition in the first place, and the response after we reported the issues was inadequate. For $8,000, I expect the house to be clean, inspected, maintained, and ready for guests when we arrive. Sand, body hair, dust from previous guests, overgrown grounds, and visible moisture/microbial growth around an HVAC system are nowhere near that standard. I would strongly recommend that anyone considering renting through Surf or Sound Realty inspect the property carefully upon arrival and thoroughly document any problems immediately. Based on our experience, we did not receive the quality or value we paid $8,000 for, and I would not rent from this company again. The pictures below are a small sample of what our home's condition was

Have called multiple times about the crappy cleaning job in the rental and they've done nothing. Dead bugs, human hair, rings from glasses on Unwiped granite. Absolutely disgusting and I had to clean it. There were also dozens of flies in the house, flying around in the kitchen and bedrooms. Also our door code was wrong. We had to call and get bounced around "after hours" (it was 5:45) to get in the house. They have no information about the advertised pool that's "a few streets away" but actually a mile away. No hours or opening times. I called about this and the woman gave me the address to the pool. Unhelpful. And the photos on the website are photoshopped. They make the queen bed look like a king so they can make that bedrooms larger bath look like the master. The actual master bathroom is tiny. Huge rips in the screen doors so we can't have the patio door open.

Jennifer Diane did all florals on her own in addition to making sure the bridal party had what they needed. I helped set up reception tables and did whatever else I was told. There were a few setbacks from the day that we would have never seen coming, as happens with wedding days usually. Though we weren't provided enough cheese cloths for the tables, you would have never known due to the creative thinking of the team and the beautiful set up of the reception. Catering also delivered the bridal party's lunch to the wrong place but Jennifer Diane used her interpersonal skills, kind demeanor and confident authority to make sure no bridesmaid, nor groomsman walked down the aisle hungry. While the DJ worked out sound issues at this outdoor vendor, Jennifer Diane kept the bridal party in place and ready to go while also communicating with attendees in a calm and professional manner. Though any wedding day has its hiccups, Jennifer Diane is the one to handle those hiccups and allow brides and grooms to enjoy their day with little stress over the little things. Jennifer Diane is a joy to be around and even though I was working, I had a fun day - and I know the bride and groom did too! I'd work with Jennifer Diane again in a heartbeat and I recommend you do too!

It was extremely frustrating trying to figure out how to turn off the fan before bedtime. Kitchen has zero amenities. I mean none. The kitchen sink in room 137 is on the verge of backing up as evidenced by poor drainage. The bathroom shower is awful. You turn it on for the tub to run and warm up, as you turn the temperature down to less hot, with no intervention by the user, the shower starts to run. This is annoying if you want to use the bathtub or just wash your hair using the tub spigot with no shower. When you pull up the shower tab, it stops the tub spigot. The bathroom has zero amenities - no tissues, i got these from another guest, twice. No room service but towels are dropped off. The soap was a sliver, no hand soap so you have to bring your own or like i did, use the shampoo to wash your hands. I haven't used soap in years, only body wash and i wish i had brought my own. The soap was very drying. Another issue with the bathroom is the smell of mothballs coming from the ceiling fan. They can deny it all they want but when the fan runs, you can smell it almost immediately. There is no cup for toothbrushing so I had to use the mug from the kitchen. The window treatments are paper thin and do not block the light from outside. The room furniture is left over patio furniture with skimpy seat cushions and horrible to sit on. I padded the seat and back with bed pillows and it was still awful, similar to the comfort level of a medieval torture device used during the Spanish Inquisition. The coffee maker did not work. A new one was provided. The front desk response to issues/complaints was to tell you to check out. I obviously cannot recommend this place but if you do stay here, it is clean and quiet but offers nothing else. You need to supply a lot of items yourself, items that a normal hotel/motel provides.
