The screened in porch is just right to just sit and gab during the evening. The outdoor shower helped keep the inside from becoming too sandy. If I ever go that way again, I would want to stay again. The only thing I would mention is that the address on the cottage will not show up on the GPS. It needs to read S. Old Oregon trail and it will lead you right to it. Filthy, Unsafe, and Insulting Response - Do NOT Stay Here!…read more I have stayed in many places over the years, and this was by far the most disgusting and poorly managed property I've ever experienced. This place should not be advertised at the rate I paid -- it felt like a $50-a-night roadside dump, not a $200+ vacation rental. Here's what I encountered: * Black mold in the bathroom and even on the doors, a clear health hazard. * Thick layers of dust coating the ceiling fans, window ledges, and even the walls -- clearly no one has cleaned this property in ages. * Lamps literally falling apart. * The entire room smelled musty and damp, making it feel unclean and unsafe. * Trash scattered throughout the backyard, including a dirty diaper just left behind. * To make matters worse, there was an animal scratching inside the walls at night, making it impossible to sleep. When I reported these issues to KEES Vacations management, they only offered a pathetic $30 "goodwill" refund, which is beyond insulting given the condition of this property and the amount I paid. It's clear they have zero concern for guest safety, cleanliness, or satisfaction. This property is completely unkempt and neglected. I will never stay at a KEES property again, and I strongly urge others to stay far away. There are plenty of clean, well-managed places to stay -- don't risk your vacation, your health, or your sanity here. Most of my DC local friends are still in disbelief that I was able to find anything available at the last minute in the middle of peak tourist season on the Outer Banks. Not only did I find a place to call home, I found Nags Head Beach Inn... For under $200 a night, we got a super cute room with a queen size bed. Not one for the frilly shabby chic of oh so many bed & breakfast places the States over, our room was clean and simple with dark wood furnishings and crisp white linens. No doilies in sight, thank you very much. Ken was the utmost in hospitality during our stay. He keeps beach chairs, bicycles, umbrellas and coolers available for all the Inn guests. We thoroughly optimized on the beach chairs during the day... walking the half block to the beach for some serious sunshine relaxing. In the afternoons we would commandeer the bicycles to get to and from our dinner destination without the headache of having to take the car. Just beach cruising the whole way :) We honestly had to throw ourselves out of the Inn come Monday morning, we loved it that much. If I had every weekend free for the rest of summer, I would happily make my second summer home at this Inn!

The location of our 6 bedroom house, Outer Banks Rental: #SN890 - SEA STAR, was located in a great area right off of the main road and just yards from the beach...it gets points for being near an awesome beach bar shack called the Fish Heads... ...but the house itself, however was very awkward in that the upstairs rooms did not connect to the downstairs inside..you had to physically go outside to get to the lower level amenities...normally for a beach trip this isn't so bad, but on a rainy or cold day, it just seems like poor development property planning in which the realty company bought what was very clearly a duplex and is selling it as a single family house, and trying to make it seem nice and convenient to have a "separate area". I suppose that is true if you're in a group with issues sharing space, but most trips like this people don't want to be isolated so extremely. The house definitely has some repair needs, and seemed to have mildew/mold on the ceiling/walls. shag carpet is brown and discolored from god knows what past incidents, but the house did not smell or have noticeable grave damage, sanitation issues or repair needs. I do not like the nickle and dimming approach to beach house rentals in which linens, TP and other such things are not stocked standard prior to arrival. These should be rolled up into the price and not at a gouged rate. I've stayed in many homes in OBX some for 20 people and smaller ones like the Sea Star, and this one was just simply, not as well kept or nice. There are better options in the same price range in nags head.

I was traveling with four grandchildren under the age of five, which made these concerns especially troubling. Most importantly, the home's decking was in poor condition. Several nails were protruding from the deck. One of my granddaughters sustained a cut that bled. The railing and spindles leading to the pool area were also unsafe. One spindle came off in my granddaughter's hands as she was walking down to the pool, and several others were loose on multiple levels. These conditions present a serious hazard and should be repaired immediately. I would also like to address the following issues: Inaccurate property information: The bed configurations shown on the website differed from those listed in the rental agreement. Both should be updated so guests know exactly what to expect. Misleading photographs: The online photographs did not accurately reflect the property's current condition. Bathroom mold: The bathroom with the jetted tub had visible mold and was unacceptable for use. Our young children had to use another bathroom. Nonfunctioning wine refrigerator: The advertised wine refrigerator did not work. Pool-area cleanliness: The area behind the poolside bar contained cigarette butts and other trash. Beach access: The walkway and steps leading to the beach were covered with sand, making access difficult and footing unsafe. Although I understand that sand naturally shifts, the steps should be cleared regularly. The kitchen was well stocked, and I appreciate the attention given to that amenity. Unfortunately, it did not make up for the numerous safety, cleanliness, and maintenance problems we encountered. My family has visited the Outer Banks for more than 30 years, and I cannot say that this property met reasonable expectations, particularly given the cost of a prime-season rental. A premium rate should be matched by safe, clean, and properly maintained accommodations. Please review these concerns and provide a written response explaining how they will be addressed. I also request an appropriate monetary refund due to the safety hazards, inaccurate advertising, unavailable amenities, and unacceptable conditions during our stay. Please respond with your proposed resolution. If this matter is not resolved satisfactorily, I will consider bringing these concerns to the attention of the local Chamber of Commerce and other appropriate consumer or rental oversight organizations. In August 2018 we planned our 3rd stay with Pirate's Cove in Manteo, NC. We arrived in Manteo to…read morebeautiful weather and upon check- in we were asked to hold in the office while an inspector confirmed our unit was clean and ready. Once we got to our 3rd floor room we found the sand that we expected to find at the beach, all over the floor (keep in mind this is not an ocean front facility). Our crawling 15 month old was on the floor less than 5 minutes and his hands and knees were covered in sand and dirt. This prompted us to sweep, which made it apparent the floors had not been cleaned even on a low standard. There were various crumbs on the tables and counters, indicating that they had not been thoroughly cleaned. At this point we contacted the front office to request a vacuum and mop, and they got us in contact with Ken Herman the Rental Coordinator. He promptly delivered the requested items as well as a bag of cleaning products that we were grateful to have. We spent several hours on our first day of vacation cleaning to mitigate the problem. They did offer to send cleaning staff out, however we feel that they failed the first time even with an inspector's approval, and felt more comfortable cleaning the unit ourselves. Less important than the filthy floors, but worthy of noting- there were ants on the counter, dishes were dirty, the rooms would not cool, the ceiling fan in the master was unusable due to an awful squeak, and there were countless other cleanliness issues. This made for a very uncomfortable stay of which we decided to check out of 4 days early. My family and I do not expect the newest and nicest of things, however we do expect a clean and sanitary environment. Furthermore this building is one of the older buildings in the complex, which is not equipped with fire sprinklers. Typically this is not a bother, however it concerns me when you have a multi story residential building that allows vehicles to park under the rooms, and only has one means of egress. The unit is only equipped with one smoke/ carbon monoxide detector which is on the ceiling just inside the front door. (NFPA 72 for many years states detectors should be placed in every sleep room as well as outside each sleep room.) With fire places in the units, the need for adequate smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are paramount especially when combined with the single means of egress, parking under the building and lack of sprinkler system. With Carbon monoxide being heavier than air, the entire room would have to fill with carbon monoxide to properly activate the detector which could be fatal if occupants are sleeping. (That is if the alarm is even heard in the master when the door is closed with tv or the squeaky ceiling fan on). This is just a side note that should be addressed by the property management to ensure the safety of their guests in the event of an emergency during their stay. Overall it seems they were more concerned about the fishing tournament that was taking place over the satisfaction of their guests. We had hoped to make the OBX and Pirate's Cove an annual vacation spot, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

We normally stay in the Colington area, but decided to upgrade to the beach side. Obviously, this was a mistake. The house appears to be quite old and well used, but the owners certainly have not kept it up and in good shape. The cleanliness was "Eh" at best (but again, Seaside gave us a refund and apology that the house was not clean). The biggest issue we ran into was that on Thu (we rented Sat to Sat) was that the roof started to leak onto the 2nd floor. My grandson slipped on the water. Thank goodness, he was ok, otherwise the owners and I would be having a MUCH different conversation. On Friday, water was coming into the window frame in my stepson's room. We reported both instances immediately, but got no response from Seaside (I even called the after hours emergency number, and was promised 3 times that someone would call me back. Crickets). The kitchen was VERY outdated, they had an electric stove that is disparately in need of replacement. The pots and pans were all out of order and old. Obviously, the owners do not care one bit about this house and the people who stay there. There is a porch that overlooks Virginia Dare and you can see the ocean from there, but the traffic is so heavy, it's quite difficult to hold a decent conversation. In addition, the wood is old and we made the grandkids wear shoes, because we were afraid they would get splinters. All of these events did put a damper and reduced our enjoy ability of our vacation. I'm very shocked that the owners are so callus in the upkeep of the house, and we certainly will not stay there again.

As an annual OBX vacationer, we've stayed in a LOT of different houses, in many different areas…read more This is by far, the biggest one we've stayed in. I wouldn't call it the best, but it's VERY nice! I won't get into the specs like BRs and Baths, etc as you can see those in the listing. There is SO much room, that you can easily have 4 average sized families in the house without ever feeling like you're on top of anyone. Pool is great, tiki bar has sink and fridge, and is a great place to store beach snacks/drinks without lugging a cooler thru the sand, or having to make your way back up to the main house. In the garage is a full sized ice machine, like you would find in a restaurant. So you never need to buy ice. That alone probably saved us well over $200 of buying bagged ice. Only a few things we didn't like. There's a storm drain pipe just to the left of the beach access which they recommend staying 200' away from. There is PLENTY of beach there with no public beach access points tho, so it was never an issue for us. One of the main freezers in the kitchen didn't get cold enough to really deep freeze anything, but the one next to it was fine. They could really use a working can opener!! None of them worked very well, and we almost bought one just to get by. Minor issue until you really need to open the baked beans! And no grill!! We had to rent one for the week for like $60. Overall, it was AWESOME, and we will be looking to rent again next year!

Once we checked-in, Saturday, June 29 we were informed by the Waves Office of Resort Realty that…read morethe Vacation Home (Dolphin Watch - #7534 - Avon, NC) was unlocked due to the cleaning staff being unable to lock the front door. When we arrived at the house, no one in our party could figure out how to lock the front door; the deadbolt simply would not engage. We promptly called the office on Monday, July 1 and spoke with Jeanine to have maintenance come and check the door. That was not the only issue, as the Pool Lights (the underwater light as well as deck lights) were not working at this time. Jeanine advised that she would put a ticket in for maintenance to look at the front door and the pool company to check the pool lights. Tuesday, July 2 no one had come to address either issue. I called back again, and referenced the time, date, and who I spoke with, however NEITHER ticket was placed. I spoke with Angel and she put the ticket in ... again. Luckily, maintenance did show up later that day as I told Angel it was 3 days now that the house could not be locked. When the maintenance man showed up, he was very helpful and demonstrated how to use the door lock, where you have to lift up the handle to engage the 1st part, then turn the deadbolt. Who would know that? That should that be in the instructions for the house. Obviously, if the cleaning staff cannot lock the door, how would a family from out-of-town know? The pool maintenance showed up at some point on Wednesday, July 3 (4 days into our trip). He was also very friendly. The underwater light in the pool was out, so it needed replaced because it shorted the circuit (there was a taped switch by the pool lights, apparently so not to short the circuit). Basically, the underwater light was not replaced and that switch was taped as a quick-fix. Everything to this point should have been addressed prior to checking in for our week at this $5,600.00 rental home. A list of other smaller issues including, but not limited to: - The main sink faucet in the Kitchen was leaking (maintenance completely replaced the faucet, Friday July 5) - The small island sink in the Kitchen drained slowly (maintenance did not fix) - Filter in the hot tub was changed (maintenance completed with us, Wednesday July 3) - A credit card fee to place the reservation online ($45.00 I believe) - Other realty companies do not charge this. The house needed a more deep-cleaning. From the A/C filters being filthy, to black mold in the shower in the Master Bedroom on the 3rd floor (my partner and I scrubbed out with some leftover bleach; we didn't bother to ask maintenance do deal with it). The last issue arose when the A/C stopped working on the 2nd floor (all family bedrooms) on Thursday, July 4. We only noticed it after maintenance had come on Wednesday and changed our filters (they were dark grey with dust). We called maintenance, left a message on July 4 evening, then again on Friday, July 5 as an after-hours maintenance request. We still did not have A/C on the 2nd floor when we locked the house and left on Saturday Morning. This is a great shame; we have rented through several realty companies through our lives and Sun Realty may be the best, Resort Realty has been the worst. Maybe someone should do an undercover rental through Sun and see all that they are doing right. People come to OBX, oftentimes (such as our situation) splitting the cost of a beachfront home so that everyone can enjoy something special, luxurious, and relaxing. This trip was a constant battle of issues with the home and maintenance that should have be completed prior to a guest's check-in. There are too many realty companies to choose from in OBX and I would highly suggest reconsidering the rental if it happens to be through Resort Realty.
