OBX Sunrise

Rooms with a view, a pool, an awesome restaurant & steps to the beach. Staff were friendly and accommodating & helpful with local information. Definitely worth a trip for a NY'er. We'll be back.

Oceanfront view from 4th floor

Booked one night & decided to stay for another upon arrival. Ed at the front desk is incredibly patient, helpful & welcoming. Beach access before check-in was a bonus! Oceanfront room has a large balcony, comfy chair, table/chairs, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker...everything we needed. Access directly to beach from 2nd floor is the best part! Convenient to restaurants, attractions and markets. Don't forget to check out the Beachside Bistro at the hotel

Rooms are very clean! Towels are soft and large! Highly highly recommend the Beachside Bistro in the hotel! Amazing food! Some of the best! Service is friendly and engaging! I'll definitely be bac@

The view from the balcony is awesome! The beach is all you see even from inside the room. I gave it 4 stars because the elevator was broke and we had to take the steps as well as we had a smoker near us who apparently chain smoked every time they were out on their balcony. Very hard to enjoy. People should not be allowed to smoke on the balcony. Also, the room was very out dated and didn't seem at all clean. Not sure if I would stay here again or not.

We stayed in the hotel part. The room was absolutely disgusting. I wouldn't recommend this "Resort" to anyone.

My husband & I really loved this hotel! There is a back terrace that has seating in the spring,…read moresummer & fall, but we were here in the winter, it was also very cold so we didn't make full use of the outdoor space. We did, however, use the walkway to the beach! Yup, you are only steps away from the beach! This is quite the bonus! The room is so quiet you won't hear your neighbors! The beds are very comfortable & warm! We can't wait to come back in the summer!!

Very clean, friendly, and convenient. Reasonable prices too. In fact, we paid more for a tour to…read moresee the wild horses than we paid to stay at the Shutters. We had a ground floor room with two queen beds. There was a "back" door leading to a small sitting area looking at the dunes. We could hear the water from there. We did go up the stairs to see the water view, but it was way too cold to sit outside. There is also an indoor pool and jacuzzi. We didn't use it but it was good to know it was there. My only complaint was the shower. It was very difficult to route the water from the faucet up to the showerhead and the water was only lukewarm. If we had stayed longer, we would have asked for a different room because of that. We could tell the hotel has been updated within the last few years. It wasn't faded decor, but had a clean, classy vibe. Not a high-end resort hotel, but certainly worth the price and it's conveniently located.

Having checked out of our Air BandB place we had to find a new place. We found this B and B about noon, and the owner led us right to a room and we were in! The room was beautiful, clean, large, and very comfortable! The house is directly across the street from a public beach access making it super convenient. The owners were incredibly friendly and fun to chat with. We were so happy to have found this place. (And no, we didn't want to leave the next day either, but we did.)

We stayed at the Loft at this B&B while we were in town for a wedding. We had a fantastic…read moreexperience. When I booked The Loft, I was unsure what to expect as I hadn't read other reviews about it, so here is my take for those potentially interested in booking: The Loft * it is basically a one-bedroom apartment -- with a bed in the living room area and a bed in the bedroom. There is a microwave, a refrigerator, and a Keurig. You have a full sized bathroom as well, and a legit living area with a couch and a couple chairs. It is perfect to split amongst 4 people; you won't feel crowded! * It is a walk upstairs. You can get to The Loft using a separate entrance from the house. You do not need to walk through the main house to get to The Loft. We liked this a lot, for privacy. But, you may need to make several trips to/from your car if you are carrying a lot of luggage. If you are unable to carry luggage on your own, I'd recommend having a friend help you or, if you are staying alone, I would recommend a different room at Cypress. The walking up the stairs was not an issue for me and my friends, but I think it could have been an issue for my parents. * It has a outdoor patio area with 4 chairs around a small table, and you have a distant view of the ocean. It's lovely. The B&B experience: Bill was simply fantastic throughout our stay. The breakfast was delicious every morning. My husband and I are early birds so had no issue making it in time for the 8:30 breakfast. The breakfast was fresh and yummy! You are walking distance from the beach (like a 3 minute walk!). The B&B has chairs for your use, so you can grab one of those chairs and walk over to the beach. You're also walking distance from a few restaurants and to Duck Donuts if that's your thing. We tried Duck Donuts for the first time on a morning walk; it was ok -- to each their own! Tips: If you are driving to Duck for a wedding, please leave the Cypress 2 hours before your event start! We had no clue how bad traffic could get. What should have been a 20 minute ride took slightly over 2 hours. Apparently, it's just like that on the weekends (especially Saturdays), so you've been warned! All in all, we had a fantastic experience here and will be excited to return.

There are absolutely things about this TownPlace Suites that I would like to see changed or that I…read moredidn't like, however I'm still giving 5 stars because of the location and the setup they have here and because I personally would go back without a second thought. First, some of the issues I have: The room layout puts one bed very close to the air conditioner and because they have the old-fashioned hotel style AC units, that leaves at least one person getting directly blasted with cold air all night. Using pool towel clips to put a towel over one side of the vent did help but reduced the efficacy of the AC and made the room warmer for everyone else. Breakfast is nice (and free) but the setup of it seems to be done as if this is a business hotel and not a beach front hotel. The cereal choices were all boring adult cereals, the bread for toast was VERY whole grain (as in it had pieces of grains in it), and the only milk they had was white milk (for example). Adding a small amount of more kid-friendly breakfast elements would go a long way. The outdoor pool is sheltered from the wind by the sand bank and gets really hot in the sun, a lightweight shade over the whole (or part of) the deck would probably be a welcomed addition by most people. As for what's great about this place: The location includes a beachfront pool + small snack shack with beach access which is directly across the road from the hotel itself. This gives the best of both worlds with beachfront access as well as having better parking and more room on the hotel property. On non-weekends the price is super affordable for a beachfront Marriott property. Not to mention the only Marriott property on the Outer Banks. It's very close to great food options, many walkable. Stuff for both adults and kids is easy to access. It's also not far to many interesting sightseeing or cultural things to see. All-in-all, I would love to see some minor changes but even with some flaws this is definitely a 5 star option.

Do not stay at this hotel…read more I've stayed in many Marriott properties over the years, but I wish I could give minus five stars to TownePlace Suites OBX. Infrastructure The website photos are completely deceptive. The hotel is not well maintained, despite being built in 2017. There are leaks throughout the property, and visible pockets of mold. The "Blue House" across the street (the beach access point) feels like an afterthought. There was only one deck chair, and it was broken. The handrail leading to the deck was also broken. Hygiene Poor. The interior is not properly cleaned, and both elevators were consistently dirty. Outside, there were empty bottles and trash bags scattered around the parking lot. Beach access Disappointing. If you're expecting easy, relaxing beach access based on the website photos, you'll be let down. You have to cross a street where pedestrians don't have the right of way, pass the poorly maintained deck, and then use stairs to reach the beach. Not worth the hassle. Breakfast Very poor. It's grab-and-go, extremely limited, and tasteless. Skip it and eat elsewhere. Service Unhelpful. We prepaid for a three-night stay but decided to leave after two nights due to the issues above. The front desk did not offer any flexibility or even a credit toward another Marriott property--we simply lost a night. Save yourself the headache. Stay elsewhere--areas like Duck or Corolla offer a much better experience. I'd also avoid Kill Devil Hills altogether; it's not walkable and doesn't offer a pleasant stay.

Our party of 6 , 4 adults and 2 children found ample room in this rental house…read more The house was clean upon entering, with nice amenities of basic home furnishings and kitchen utensils. Be sure to bring extra TP. Only one roll per bathroom. Parking for 3 cars max, one in garage, one in driveway, and one in the designated parking spot. I did see a beach wagon , skim board, extra tank of propane and a few other odds n ends in the garage. This is a nice community with like rental housing with houses painted in a beach color theme. You do have a easy access drive up area to dispose of your trash. Overall nice accommodations. Not a gated community and as I was loading up to leave , a older van started up next to me in the parking spot. It was loud( no muffler ) and the fumes were pointing right at me from the exhaust pipe. As I was coughing, I went up to the window to ask if they could turn off the engine till I was finished. Too my surprise, I seen two guys smoking, not pot but crack. They were startled and I asked them to turn off the engine it was choking me out with the exhaust. They must have spent the night in the van because I did not see anyone get in it while I was loading up my SUV. They did turn off the van, it had a name of a Church from VA on the side. Then they turned it on again and too off. Good. Like I said it was not a gated community. Also a problem with communication: No Phone number for company , no answer for the number on Yelp and no voice mail. I found and cleaned black mold from the bathroom. The gas grill did not light, the HVAC filter was filthy, should have been changed a few months ago. No number to communicate with owners, unable to resolve any problems. Otherwise it was a ok place to stay.
