Beautiful location directly on the Atlantic Ocean. 2 bedroom 2 bath condos are spacious and well appointed. Kitchen had everything we needed. A great way to enjoy the sunrise with a cup of coffee while sitting on the balcony looking at the waves roll over the shore. Beach access directly from the hotel. Beach chairs and umbrellas available for rental. Ron had our chairs set up for us each morning. Large indoor pool and a workout room in case the weather doesn't cooperate. The front desk staff was very accommodating. Erica printed out a map for us to help us enjoy a morning hike. Restaurant and bar available all day. Great food with a view of the Atlantic. The Sea Ranch was the wedding venue I've always dreamt about. Torey was amazing. She was very responsive to any emails or calls and super flexible on the meetings with me. Living almost 2 hours away it was important to have someone like her. The night before the wedding we had a tropical storm and I was very stressed about the condition of the beach but they seriously pulled it off. The staff was very very kind and helpful. Without the Sea Ranch, my special day would not be as special as it was. When we ran into some issues Joe was so helpful and a blessing in disguise. I highly recommend them. Thank you guys so much. Very happy with our stay. Rooms were clean and comfortable, modestly appointed inside with breath-taking views from our oceanside location. Staff was excellent- we checked in around 12:30am and the gentlemen who greeted me upon our late arrival was kind and welcoming. We ate at their Beachside Bistro for our first breakfast and were so impressed with the food, prices, and attentive wait staff (Vivian was our favorite but all were good) we ended up coming back for every meal except the wedding that brought us to OBX in the first place. The beach itself was clean and cared for- also appreciated the friendliness of other guests, made for an overall laid-back and pleasant atmosphere. This was not a good experience. Our room was on the second floor of a building with no elevators and our room was all the way down the hall. We loaded all of our kids things on a cart into the lobby to find out that we could not use a cart and had to take everything up and down the stairs. Then our room smelled so bad that the kids begged me to go buy a candle so that we could handle the 2 nights we had to sleep in the room. It is just an old hotel and because we booked last minute we paid $485 for 2 nights. This made it feel even worse. read more

The one thing to understand is if you are not in an ocean front room your are going into a tiny, dated hotel room (see photo for bathroom) in an annex perpendicular to the beach with no view and no direct beach access. You will pay about half for this room vs. beach view. Beach access was great (through hotel), nice gym, breakfast with included voucher was fine, staff was fine. So my girlfriend wanted to spend the weekend at the beach and it was my task to plan the whole thing. I picked OBX because I've heard good things and didn't want to do one of those "party beaches." After doing some research on the different regions of OBX I chose Kill Devil Hills because it offered many attractions and wasn't terribly far south (we live in MD). I did further research on hotels and settled on the Sea Ranch Resort. I'm very happy with my choice. The price was right and the location is right on the beach. We arrived at the hotel around noon on Friday and unfortunately our room wasn't ready. That was no fault of the hotel, they clearly state check in is at 3pm. They were very accommodating however and gave us a temporary parking pass and said we could use the indoor pool or hit the beach while we waited for our room to be cleaned. When our room was ready we were pleasantly surprised. We opted for the Oceanfront room and I can't recommend it enough. The ocean is literally right in front of your balcony. It's a phenomenal view. We went to sleep every night to the sounds of waves crashing on the shore. We loved it. The room itself was very clean and fresh. The only minor negative I could state was the wifi being a bit spotty. We were on the 5th floor though so that may have affected it. Honestly I didn't really need the wifi anyway. I don't know what else I could say about the hotel. I highly recommend it especially the Oceanfront rooms. You can't beat that view. We plan on staying here again! read more

I'm pretty happy with the time my wife and I spent at the Sea Ranch. We weren't looking for something too touristy, and the Sea Ranch Resort delivered with a no-thrills hotel with great views, a good beach, and comfy rooms. The hotel itself is obviously from a previous age, with large concrete walls and slow elevators, but once you get into the living spaces it feels just like any other hotel in the country. The beds were comfy with good pillows and the seating in the room was nice. The oceanview balconies were outstanding! I loved sitting on the balcony in the morning with my cup of coffee and a book, just watching the sun rise over the ocean and listening to the waves crash 100 feet below us. Amazing time. Generally a good location. Pretty easy access to all of the hot spots in the Outer Banks, so I really had no complaints whatsoever. I loved my stay. read more

Mildew, ants, and Hairy bath tubs.............................. We moved to one, then two and finally three rooms in an effort to get away from the mildew odor. The bath tub had hair on it as well as an open pipe to the drain (overflow) which was corroded. My wife had to go the front desk at night to get cleaner to clean the tub to shower. In the morning her purse stored beneath the night stand between the beds was crawling with ants. Front desk person said they were aware of problems and were sorry. No adjustment to the almost $170 nights bill as we went through expedia. read more

I would highly recommend staying here. The balcony overlooking the ocean and the beach access were amazing. The room felt clean and well taken care of. I read some reviews that me a little skeptical but it was worth every cent for the view, location and friendly staff. I'm very torn in leaving this review. I really appreciated the quick service when I TV gave out the first night and they immediately changed our room. As well as when the 3rd night when our next door neighbors started blasting their radio at 2am and I called and asked them to assist us in helping that stop and they did. However we got there and the pool was under construction and we had no idea prior to our arrival. And by under construction I mean that every morning of our stay (starting at 7am) they would use a jackhammer to break up the concrete surrounding the pool and man was it loud! So there was no sleeping in on that vacation or swimming (and sadly I had purchased multiple swimsuits for this trip!) but they tried their best beyond those issues so my suggestion would be to visit in the on season and not during the off season. read more

Got a great deal for a Saturday night during the summer season so I jumped on it. So glad I did because this place was one of the few good things about our little getaway. The staff was very nice and friendly. Our condo was clean, well stocked and decorated so cute. The view from the living room and master bedrooms were breathtaking! The patio is very big and can be accessed from both the living room and master. These condos are big. I would much rather stay here then rent a house or cottage and have to pay high service and cleaning fees. They have an indoor pool also. Restaurant and bar on site. They have a shower on their beach access ramp. We also got to witness a wedding from our balcony. It's not the fanciest hotel but definitely one of the nicer ones in nags head. read more

Currently staying here and we are leaving tomorrow the rooms are disgusting! There carpet is gross in the rooms, the tissues attached to the wall are rusted there was MOLD on the sink counter top all the paint was peeling in the shower and the bottoms of the shower was yellow/brown There was some sort of stain on the white wall in the bathroom. The in room telephone had brown grimy crap all over it and didn't tell you which number to call for front desk or room service or for toilet products They did not change sheets or provide new towels UNLESS you put a plastic sign (they provide in the room) on your bed asking for them to do so read more

Stayed here for a Saturday - Monday in August. The reviews on tripadvisor were helpful. The place is typical beach hotel/motel style. Oceanfront rooms ended up being $113 more for two nights than non-oceanfront but the view and glass-enclosed porch made it worth the extra cost. Our room was standard size - two queen beds, wet bar with fridge, two small tables, three chairs plus two more chairs on the porch. We didn't hear any neighbors but the AC fan was loud (typical for hotels). Bathroom was laid out strange and decor was typical cheapish hotel (gaudy colored comforters etc). There is an enclosed pool that we didn't check out. The beach is right below the porches. Breakfast was included at the Jolly Roger a block away. Eggs, bacon, grits/homefries, toast -or- pancakes/waffles and bacon -or- biscuits an sausage -or- oatmeal and fruit. Coffee included, we only had to pay a tip. Wifi only worked occasionally on the fifth floor. I'd stay here again if I wanted an oceanfront hotel. $195 for Saturday and $175 for Sunday night using a summer special on their website. read more

I am posting an update to this review. The guest services manager sought me out after reading my review. She has been at this resort for more years than we have been coming here...and recognizes us, always greeting us with a warm smile and a fun "nickname" she gave to me the first time we met. She apologized for the issue, having obviously looked into the reservation to better understand how this problem came about. She couldnt have been kinder. Made a reservation through groupon and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were a little worried when we saw that their restaurant was closed, the groupon promised us a free hot breakfast, but were more than satisfied when they gave us vouchers for free breakfast and the Jolly Roger restaraunt just down the road. The groupon said oceanside rooms and it was not kidding. We were so close to the beach that from the second story looking out the window all you could see was waves, unless you walked right up to the window and looked down at the beach. The room was clean and organized and the front desk lady was very friendly. Overall it was a great place to stay. It gets four stars because the rooms are a little old (the air vents had what appeared to be some mold or discoloration around them) and the TV while good was not great. I read all of the reviews before booking a trip to this "RESORT" with a Groupon deal. The reviews all spoke highly of this place. Let me tell you, it was GROSS! We had a 3 night stay and ended up leaving after the second night and forfeiting our money to go to a clean hotel. Our room was old, dirty, had a bathtub that didn't drain, had a thermostat that kept jumping to 88 degrees and had ants! The "wifi" was a joke. When I asked the front desk clerk about it (repeatedly), I was told that I should try sitting on the balcony! The pool is enclosed and has dirty, musty carpeting around it...beyond disgusting. My family stayed here for my wedding-- this place is DISGUSTING! Both rooms were on the first floor, and smelled sour. There were A LOT of ants everywhere-- including on the beds. Sand in the chairs and furniture. The bathrooms had mildew, and the shower tile was painted, yes painted, and peeling. HORRIBLE experience. read more

All things considered, during Hurricane Maria, it was memorable. First off, you get what you pay for 95% of the time. So is the case here as well. Older 70-80's style concrete ocean front hotel. Great location! and friendly staff on site. Nice little bar and food average. Good balcony facing rooms ocean side! but ask for one. If you want the Biltmore spend 300-400 a night, look around and complain. If you're happy at the beach, seek location over bling, you'll enjoy checking the surf out the door rather than walking to it. Like I stated, not new, ok, but the location made up for it and the staff in the restaurant bar made me a fan. read more

Great Resorts with outstanding oceanfront views!

First, the good news: This place is inexpensive and the complimentary breakfast is really good. The beach access and view are also excellent. BUT, our room smelled really damp and dirty, even though it didn't look dirty, I have to say. The smell hit us right away and it was awful. Next, the "heated indoor pool" was non- existent. We were told there was a heated indoor pool when we made the reservation, and the pool was advertised; the pool is one of the main reasons we chose this "resort". Perhaps the lack of a pool would not be a problem in the summer, but for a winter visit, you really need a heated indoor pool! In any case, the Sea Ranch shouldn't mislead people on this issue. Finally, the wifi was also non-existent most of the time. And even when it did work, it was insecure (had no password or restricted access) which is simply irresponsible and dangerous. So, the one star is for the problems we encountered, but mostly because this hotel lures visitors in with false promises. We moved to the Ramada, cleaner and less expensive, with a heated indoor pool! read more

We stayed at this hotel, it's not really a resort, last summer. The rooms were dumpy and stank. The door was almost impossible to close because it has clearly swollen over the many, many years. There was also clearly a bug problem. The night we checked in the front desk person was very unpleasant; the woman in the morning was a breath of fresh air, in comparison. The keys to the room were weird. We booked though orbitz and it didn't specify rooms as oceanfront or other option, which we inevitably got parking lot view. It may have been better/tolerable if we had oceanfront, or at least in the main building. read more

Awful and dated! We have two 10 pound each dogs and Sea Ranch came up as a pet friendly hotel, oceanfront with a restaurant. What's not to like...right? The rate per night was $258 and that includes a smelly, dated and terribly decorated room. The mattress was soft as a hammock, even tho we requested a firm mattress. There's no safe to keep your valuables. The coffee machine was rusted inside and the AC was so noisy that it kept my husband (a heavy sleeper) and I awake almost the entire night. The TV was so small you have to sit a few feet away to watch it. There's a musty smell in the lobby and the same smells linger throughout the hall and of course your $258 per night room. We stayed at the Sheraton Hotel in Norfolk and the room a "PET FRIENDLY ROOM" was fantastic, clean and modern! Whosever owns this hotel is making a fortune from misinformed people! This was a terrible experience and I do not recommend this hotel to anyone traveling with or without pets! read more

Last minute trip. So much better than a chain hotel. We had the oceanfront king suite. Both the King and living areas were full ocean views and full balconies. Tasteful and updated upholstery in living and bedrooms. Kitchen was a little dated but was fully furnished. Twin bedrooms bath needed to be updated and pocket doors didn't work. Very spacious place, we would come back again. Just a note, arrived several hours early, given a pool pass, access to beach and parking but don't expect rooms to be ready before 4:00. read more

You get what you pay for really. For the price it was reasonable. The pool is not well maintain, and dirty. Our door lock was broken. AC is rediculously loud. I would find another place next time i come down to outer banks. Room service is great. Wifi actually works at a very good speed. read more

We stayed in a condo and it was perfect for us. Everything we could need was ready for us. The view and location can't be beat

We will come here again. The pool was nice (though a little on the cool side for a 'heated' pool) and the coffee and all-natural hippie toiletries are first rate! The lobby smells like low tide, but maybe that helps with ambience, haha. Thier beach area is a little on the narrow side but that meant that in the afternoon the hotel provided shade for the dry sand sitting area on the beach! We did not get sunburns! Their balconies look like they are fully enclosed in glass, with a sliding window for air. The ocean was super rough and great to boogie boarding and it was warm in mid-August on our first day and a little cooler on the second. Always depends on how close the gulf stream is. The beach sand was smooth and barefoot-friendly. We missed it because we checked in at 4:30, but from 3 to 4 pm they had free snowcones for everyone everyday of the week. There was a magic show on Monday, too, but we were only there on a Saturday night. Kid and family-friendly. Had two HBO channels, one was for family. TV was small, though. Had a fridge and microwave and single serve coffee maker. Beds and pillows were comfy. Room was remarkably well-designed and in good enough repair and nice and clean. All and all wonderful stay and loved the location and the price was not bad at all for the season! read more

We decided to take a last minute trip to the beach and after a quick google search, I found the sea ranch resort. It was clean, spacious, and nicely decorated. Beautiful view from the balcony! The grounds and pool were clean and well kept. All staff that we encouraged were super friendly as well from check out to check in. We look forward to staying here again. read more

VERY Disappointing. Too bad 1- Star is the lowest available rating. My wife and I were frequent guests for the five + years preceding change of management. The replacement staff provided substandard service and the retained staff from the prior regime that we knew were justifiably apprehensive. Gone was the welcoming family atmosphere. My complaint letter to the new management company partners was ignored and I received a dismissive message from the current resort general manager. We paid over $500 for service level that we would expect from a Motel. We would expect (and have experienced) from a company concerned about its brand at least a partial refund for such deplorable service. What we received in response was a tepid, hastily written dismissal of our complaint. I guess the new managers are more interested in their property asset than the repeat business that supports that asset. I also filed a complaint with the local Better Business Bureau and Sea Ranch ignored that complaint. With such an inferior service experience, one would think that in the hospitality business, Sea Ranch would either offer to reimburse the cost or offer a comped return - neither was offered. Because of this ordeal, we located two hotels on the water, priced competitively with superior amenities, one on the Outer Banks and one in Virginia Beach that not only values our business but offers a 100% satisfaction guaranty. read more

We stayed here in the off-season, using a great special they had so saved quite a bit on two nights. We were in a King Suite (ocean front with a balcony), and we loved it! The beach outside is great, easy access from the hotel. We were on the 5th floor - the ocean was endless and outside our front door we could see the Wright memorial. Great blackout curtains so those that don't want to see the gorgeous sunrise aren't woken up by the bright sunlight. In all - great location, big room, nice bathroom, no issues connecting to the WiFi. We will be back! read more

My family and I spent a night here during the first week of June. We were there mainly to go on a Wild Horse tour in Corolla, and get a look at the Outer Banks since we've never been. Found Sea Ranch resort on booking sites, rates weren't bad, so we gave it a shot. We were very happy with our choice. Since we were only there for the night, we booked 2 rooms in the front street view side, not oceanfront. Rooms were very clean and comfortable, front desk staff were awesome, super nice and helpful, and the beach at this place, absolutely gorgeous!! We had breakfast at the onside Beachside Bistro - delicious! Plenty of choices, all 6 of us ordered something different, and we were all pleased with it. Service at the Bistro was excellent, and the prices were fantastic -nothing on the menu for breakfast over $10!! This is a place we are definitely going to return to in the future - we would love to return and spend our entire vacation here in an oceanfront suite!! read more
