Service is slow but ceviche is top notch. The server recommended we share it, but we wish we had gotten our own

Don't get me wrong, the food here isn't bad, but the wait was pretty unbearable (and we only showed up as a group of 5). From ordering to having the first entree out to the table, it took over 25 minutes. And that was only one entree. After that, entrees came out every 7-10 minutes, so we didn't even get all of the food until over an hour after being seated. The first person to get their food was well finished by the time the last one showed up. And, to top it off, this was on a day when all the tables weren't even full. This place could have potential, but the service and speed needs to improve a bit. If you don't have 2+ hours for lunch, this place isn't for you. read more

Se llama Peru is DELICIOSO ! I drive all the way from South Salt lake to eat a REAL Peruvian Food, because in Salt lake there is no place that makes food near as good as Se llama Peru. My kids LOVE el pollo a la Brasa, Frejoles con Seco, Beans with Rice and Meat, Ceviche, Jalea, aji de Gallina, i could keep going on and on with the list of delicious PERUVIAN food they make. I love this restaurant. The food has a taste just like what I found in Peru. I have one complaint, which is the service. The server is not very good at keeping the drinks full. The many times that I've come to eat here the service could always use improvement. But its a mom and pop shop so I take it with stride. Its the place to go if your looking for authentic Peruvian food. Its as close as it gets here in the county. read more

I am so pleased to be the first person to review this wonderful establishment! Frankly, I never had a bad experience there and while their food isn't quite five-star quality, it was always very very good, and quite reasonably priced. Well, I can't speak for all of their food actually because, with only a few exceptions, I only ordered their papusas when I went there. They have pork, cheese, beef, and various combinations of those three and all of them are great. They are more filling than one might expect so you can get a decent meal for two for like 10-12 dollars. read more

OK....the place is not very attractive and the service a little lacking. BUT I will come back for the food. I'm not so pretentious that I can't overlook a misspelled menu or a dated table and chair. While the food was delicious, the timing was not. Do not go with a large group. Ever. We waited over an hour for our food. I think they actually forgot about us as we were the last couple served. The rice was nice and our steak was delicious, but next time I am getting a different entree. Everyone else seemed to have twice the amount of food. The staff were friendly, but it seemed like they were short handed. Only one guy to run all the tables in the front was not enough. Overall a nice place. The waitress was adorable and very helpful. We were the only ones in the entire restaurant, but the food still took awhile to get out to us. The 1/4 chicken on the bone was really good, but the side salad was a bag variety and getting a little rusty. The beef was a little dry, but had great flavors. Overall I would say that while the flavors are there, the quality could use some work. Still, it is worth a try if you are in the area. read more

Provo has stepped up on bringing in some good eats and this is one you need to try. I found it hosted my party of 9 with ease and everyone left full and satisfied. Management was kind and eager to give us a great experience. They sell 2 liters which is nice with bigger parties. I had their ceviche mixto and WOW. The flavoring is a refreshing lime that is marinated through the whole dish. The shrimp are plump and give a gratifying pop when bit into. My wife got a plate with rice and carne that I found my fork wandering into as she was conversing. Rice gets down played most of the time but here it is an equal partner to the gravy-esk meat making sure to soak up any would be lost flavor to enjoy. To end lets just say " I'll be back" read more

I can't remember the last time I felt such regret! We went for a late lunch and decided to order two entrees, the ceviche, and jalea. There were only two other customers in the restaurant. We usually enjoy trying new foods and really liked peruvian dishes we ate at La Carreta, another Peruvian restaurant in the area. The food was heavy and over seasoned, it all tasted the same. There was only one server and she was poor at best. She never refilled our water glasses, we were served our meals after about a 40 minute wait. We still had no utensils when the food was served. She never came to check on us, after serving the meals. When we wanted to pay we had to go to the register and ask her to come and total our bill. She couldn't find the bill and she wrote a new ticket. The meals were over priced as well. I wish I could take back the last two hours of my life!! read more

Very unfortunate experience. Didn't have two of the four appetizers on the menu. Ordered chicha morada for all of us and it wasn't until we were all done with our food that we were told there was only enough for two of the three of us. Never offered us water while we waited. Delivered our entrées 3 minutes apart from each other. The ahi de gallina was watery, not much flavor. The best part of the meal was the rice and the chicha morada, after we finally got it as we paid for the bill, which was no where worth the $15/person we paid. I've eaten here 3 times before, and the first two times I got lomo saltado. The food was great! But my third visit resulted me and my friend both getting food poisoning off the chicken. Suffice to say I won't be eating here again. read more

I'm not familiar with peruvian food, but this restaurant is delicious! The prices are reasonable, most of the entrees are around $10, and they give you a *lot* of food, one meal is easily enough to split between 2 hungry people, or to have a good portion of leftovers for lunch the next day. I don't know how they season it so well, but the rice is super delicious! I've tried the lomo saltado and the bistec a lo pobre, and they were both delicious, especially the lomo saltado, it was very well-seasoned and flavorful. The salad was a little odd, I think the dressing was mayo and mustard, but it's not the main focus, this isn't a place you'd go for salads anyway. They're lightly staffed so things take a little while, but the service is great, the lady there was really friendly and nice, and they do takeout. read more

This is a great "hole in the wall" place for Peruvian eats. Everything on the menu is going to be swell, but if you can only have one thing on the menu you must try the potato side dish ( can't remember what it's called at the moment). Anyway, same tastes as the "real deal" so be adventurous and try something different! read more

You have to check this place out! Just stumbled upon this gem last month, and am quickly becoming a regular. The dishes don't look fancy, but absolutely everything on the plate is delicious. I've liked the ceviche both times, but the lomo saltado (smoky steak, tomatoes, and thick red onions on thick, crispy French fries, with rice and a velvety sauce) is frankly mind blowing. I licked my plate clean with zero embarrassment. The restaurant front got a face lift recently, which I hope brings in more business for them! read more

I've been here several times during my couple of years living in Provo, and have come away impressed every time, both with the quality of food and the service. I've tried the Papa a la Huancaina, Aji de Gallina, Pollo a la Brasa, and Arroz con Mariscos, and everything has been full of flavor and tasted fresh. Service can be a bit slow, but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. The owner has come to my table a couple of times and asked me personally how I was enjoying everything and was extremely friendly. Very comfortable atmosphere with authentic Peruvian flags, wools, paintings, etc. on the wall. Very authentic Peruvian food made with care. Would recommend to all. read more

Great little hole in the wall Peruvian restaurant. If you've never tried Peruvian, this is the place because the pricing is so good--just don't expect 5-star service. My large group overwhelmed them, and they ran out of certain items. Yes there's a bit of a language barrier if you're not a Spanish speaker, but still, a great experience. Kids tend to really like the lomo saltado (Peruvian steak stir fry) and everyone loves the pollo a la brasa (marinated chicken on a spit). I visited this place yesterday and it was really good. The food was very authentic and they were really nice.

Horrible choice for lunch today. The food took 40 mins for the first dish for our table the last meal was delivered over a hour later. Food was so so. Mostly simple beans and rice with bagged salad. Nothing I couldn't have made at home in half the time. This place is on the never again list. I'm very surprised by the positive reviews they must have a bunch of family and return missionaries to make it up. read more

The chicken was red inside and yet it was so dry. Worst chicken I've ever had in my life. Waitress said they had no aji or mustard to top off an already bad meal. I guess the best part of the chicken was the salad. The fries were plain unsalted and hard. Chicken from the gas station would have been 10x better and cheaper too. We won't be going back until they actually buy a rotisserie oven. Disgusting! read more

Could be good, got the arroz con mariscos and all the seafood was over cooked, the muscles mushy. The seafood was super cheap quality like the super cheap frozen mix you get at Walmart. Jalea was also ordered, same gross seafood just breaded which still couldn't hide its rubberiness. Which also came out 8 mins after our other entree. I'm not sure what the rave reviews are for maybe seafood is the only mistake. Sadly won't be back not worth the money you pay. La carreta in Orem's quality is way better and fresher, save yourself and head there. read more

We went on a Friday and arrived about 5:30 - nice and early, right? Well, there was a private party taking up most of the room in the restaurant, which is small, and after over 30 minutes of waiting, with all the food we saw going to the big party, we left (we had placed our order when we first arrived). There were at least 10 people standing by the front door, most of whom had not been greeted. Several left when we did. No food is good enough to make up for such horrible lack of service. read more

Been to quite a few Peruvian restaurants and this was my least favorite. Service wasn't great and the food came out pretty cold and didn't taste good at all. Gave it a second chance and had the same experience. There are definitely better Peruvian restaurants around for close to the same price. read more

My husband and I absolutely love this place. We've been a few times and always get the same thing to share. Bistec a lo Pobre. It is amazing and definitely enough to feed us both. The steak is SO flavorful (wishing I could have their recipe!). It came with rice, salad, plantains, french fries and a fried egg (we always ask for an extra egg). I agree with what one of the previous reviews say, their rice is flavorful and delicious. I think next time I will try the Lomo Saltado, as I have heard that is a popular great Peruvian dish...and I bet that Se Llama Peru does it well. Another thing we admired about this place is the staff. They've always been so friendly and don't seem to mind answering your questions if you've never tried Peruvian food before. We were also fortunate to be greeted by the owner a couple of times. He is very friendly and asks if you've enjoyed your meal. I love small business/restaurants where the owners are involved in making sure their customers are satisfied. It really makes the experience that much more pleasant! read more
