I wish I could give this place a better rating because of the South American flavors they are bringing to Utah, but I just can't.
We go in and it was smokey... like... really smokey, we thought that maybe a little accident had happened in the kitchen, but nope... apparently all was going well in here so whatever.
We get seated, the furniture is not the best... kinda uncomfortable, but I didn't mind since I was excited to get some Peruvian goodies.
For appetizers we got a papa rellena, that was delicious, and papas a la huaicaina that were pretty okay, the sauce could have been a lot more developed and added more ingredients, but it was good.
For main dishes, I had one of the steak plates with fries and rice, and my friend had something similar, but instead of steak, it was chicken.
The flavors were nice. I definitely enjoyed the taste and the amount of food for the entrees, but I had some problems with the following:
- The service was slow and stressful. They only had one server for about 5 tables, once the thing was getting a bit out of control, one of the owners (I'm guessing) started to help waiting tables.
- The environment in general of this place is sad. The walls are painted by what it seemed to be a job done by a 5 year old, and the furniture, and the cleanliness of the place were not very welcoming or pleasing... I know this could be small details for many people, but if you go to a place and want to experience something, you'd rather do it somewhere where at least it looks clean.
- Lots of grammatical and SPELLING problems in the menu... come on guys! It's all about the presentation...
- When our server was giving us our utensils, she dropped my fork, and came back with a dessert fork to replace it. No explanation given, because not even the server noticed the difference between a normal fork and a small dessert fork... seriously?
- The server lost our check and made us wait for another extra 5-10 minutes.
- And last but not least... for 2 appetizers, and 2 entrees, with waters - we payed over 50 bucks with a very moderate tip, because we weren't the most pleased after the whole thing...
It kinda made me feel that for the same amount of money I could have gone to Tucanos and ate my heart out to delicious food, with better service and environment...
It's like a paradox between a hole in the wall trying to be nicer than what it is.
They have awesome food, that can definitely be considered from a nice restaurant. But the other factors of this place make it look so shitty, that it makes you feel like the whole thing s overpriced for what they offer, and it's sad that little things like the ones mentioned can really make or break a restaurant experience.
Sadly, I won't be coming back to this establishment. read more
