What a special place. I had the pleasure of sitting at the bar and chatting with the bartender. She was very helpful, insightful and knew a lot about the product. I always love when a place has a well educated staff. The flight and one ounce pours are a great addition to the menu as it gives you a chance to explore the menu without breaking the bank. The meads here are outstanding. I have head over and over again about how great there are and finally got to try some at the actual spot! The Smile of Fortune Amelia Black Agnes Red Agnes Blackberry Ginger Nutmeg And The Statement were all beautifully done. Out of them all black Agnes, the statement and smile of Fortune were my favorite. Nutmeg is a great addition to this time of year. Well done all around. I look forward to coming back while in town and checking more of your Mead's out when I can!

So hey Ferndale, I'm not sure you're fully aware of what you have going on here, but you're basically the mead capital of the world now. I won't belabor Ken Schramm's credentials, but he knows a little bit about making mead. I had the opportunity to visit on a Thursday evening and I got to say hi to everybody and taste everything. The quality of the mead is really extraordinary. Huge quantities of extremely nice, locally sourced fruit goes into the mead. This is not easy or cheap to do. The production space is really tiny, the batch sizes are VERY small. It's a really good opportunity to get in on the ground floor with some investment quality bottles for your wine cellar. When you consider everything that goes into it, you realize what a great value it is for the price. These early batches are going to become very collectable going forward. Who will like this mead? Pretty much everybody, but specifically I would expect it to be popular among twenty-something women and craft beer lovers. Ferndale mixologists should also take note as Ken's mead would be a great start to many interesting cocktails. Mead is not a historical novelty. You don't have to be a Viking to drink it. Mead is modern, it is here and now. That being said, the American Craft Mead Movement is in it's Golden Age. The founders of the industry, people like Ken, are alive and creating new meads this very moment. It won't always be the way it is now. This is the very best time to get on board.

Incredible mead flights, loved the atmosphere at Schramm's Mead

Schramm's Mead makes some of the best honey wine in the world. If you are a local you are lucky to have a world class meadery in your backyard. I'm from the west coast and made a 4 hour detour to visit Schramm's Mead. The staff was wonderful. They answered all my questions, and took care of my wife and I. The menu of meads, cocktails, and food pairings was very well put together and made it feel like an adventure for your palate. I won't list any favorites because everything I had was a favorite. Just go taste and enjoy the experience. Highly, highly recommended.

This review is for the first annual mead festival that happened on 8/4 2018. Set up next to Schramms Meadery. Ticket price included tote bag, T shirt, 5 samples of mead, 4 food samples and some extras. Large tent covered sample area, food tables, bandstand and seating. Very hot day. Would recommend some fans for next event. Overall this was a very good event. The number of available mead samples was pretty large but you could only try 5. The samples we chose were all VERY tasty. I am a fan of Schramms because they ferment a more traditional style of mead. More honey flavor and not overpowered by additional flavors. The food that was available was also pretty tasty. You were allowed one sample from each vendor. The nicest part about this event was the timed entrance aspect. They had two seatings at 3 hours each. This meant no big crowds pushing and shoving to get limited samples of food and mead. Well thought out. They also had other vendors in a seperate area selling books, honey, cookies and other stuff. In order to pick up the tote bag and goodies you had to leave the event, no re-entry, and go into the store. This was a big snafu. Only a few people in store at a time and a long line waiting outside. Once inside you wait some more until you get to back of store where they ask for ID and then start handing out bags AND bottles of mead if they were pre ordered. Quite a bottleneck and very crowded. Not sure if this was a security issue but there was plenty of space outside to do this. I think this event is a one off for me but I will certainly be back to the store to try some other samples.

I tried their Santa's Milk & Cookies holiday cocktail, which came in a festive Mrs. Claus' mug. The drink was VERY strong! I ordered the Crisper Chicken Sandwich which had a delicious pesto aioli and sun-dried tomato relish which elevated the sandwich. Yum! Between the decor, themed drinks, great food, and the fun atmosphere, this event was such a great way to kick off the holiday season. If you're thinking about checking out a holiday pop-up, Ale Mary's Jingle is absolutely worth it!

He was super friendly and answered all of our questions regarding the menu. Here's what we got: - Michigan lamb ragu (his) - Lobster and shrimp pad thai (mine) - Crab and shrimp cakes (share) - clam chowder (share) His family got some of the same items, but I can't remember the different items they got. The overall consensus though was that everything tasted fantastic. Coming from the Bay Area, I have high expectations when it comes to Asian food, so I was pleasantly surprised by how great the pad thai tasted. The clam chowder was creamy and delightful. The crab cakes were the perfect size and not teeny tiny. The lamb ragu was very well done also and my husband is a big fan of lamb so he really enjoyed his meal. Since we were there early, it was quiet which was nice. Would definitely return in the future the next time I am in Michigan.

He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He also checked up on us frequently and made sure we were doing well. I got an aperol spritz which was nice and refreshing. The starter bread was very soft and warm. We split of one of the specials (arancini alla norma) which was excellent. We also got the insalata mista which was exactly what you would expect. It was a pretty small portion, but otherwise, there was not much to note. I got a rigatoni alla norma for my main. The tomato sauce was excellent. It was acidic and vibrant which complemented the roasted eggplant and cheese very well. I also had a bite of the rigatoni alla vodka which I would totally order next time. Parking was no problem as I was lucky to find metered parking just steps away from the front door. I walked in immediately taken with the charming decor and darkly lit romantic vibes, which is my favorite esthetic for any restaurant. The seating at the bar was yummy, thick comfy seats. The bartender greeted me warmly. He was cool and I hate that I didn't ask his name. He was attentive and masterful with the spirits. He asked if it was my first time, which it was, and since so, made me a tasty "welcome" drink with gin that was fantastic. I also ordered "the panty snatcher" a concoction of vodka, grapefruit, St Germain, rose water and orange. It was amazing. I will definitely be back for drinks. The drink menu is quite tempting. I had the Corn, Corn, Corn dish, which is polenta and corn kernels topped with popcorn. Yes, super unique and interesting. I had to try it. The popcorn was so light and flavorful straight out of the kitchen, but became chewy as it sat atop the piping hot polenta. I really enjoyed it however. Next time I'll eat all the popcorn first. I also had lobster dumplings, which was good but the dish wasn't cooked through. The filling wasn't hot and the pasta was very under on some bites. I was the first customer for the evening, so I can forgive that faux pas. I really enjoyed myself and I will return time and time again to try everything. The menu offers many things I love. Great concept. Cool vibes.

We were there celebrating a birthday with twelve people. They informed us that they were not allowed to split the check or even take more than four cards and the four cards had to be evenly split. We checked in and had to wait less than 5 minutes in their cute seating area for them to get our table ready. We were seated in the outdoor area that was covered and heated and I really appreciated the warmth since it was freezing outside. Our server, Marvin, was very cool and funny. Gave us time to look over the menu and made sure we had new sets of plates and silverware between each new set of dishes that were brought out. We started with a limoncello martini and the "Sophia Loren" which was their version of an espresso martini and both were very good. Very subtle on the alcohol. We also got the crispy fresh mozzarella as an app and they tasted really good covered with the sauce. The breading and sauce reminded me of arancini and less like a mozzarella stick and I liked it a lot. We got small versions of the lemon spaghetti and the spicy vodka rigatoni as well as the beef tenderloin medallions. The lemon spaghetti was very creamy and tasty but could not taste the lemon that was supposed to be in it (it still was very good). The rigatoni had just the right amount of kick in it and the sauce was creamy too. I loved the beef medallions. The cook on it was a bit overdone than we asked but it was still flavorful and juicy and the zip sauce it was sitting in was so yummy. We finished with the tiramisu that was very refreshing even though I accidentally swallowed a big chunk of straight cocoa powder (there was a lot on the top). Overall, I really liked this restaurant and would want to come back to taste those yummy dishes again. It was really satisfying.
