Cute cafe with indoor seating , walk up ordering & a very large outdoor patio. Serving food, coffee , cocktails & ice cream . Something for everyone!

Um... I went to meet a friend for coffee but... ended up with a frozen espresso martini at 10:30am! There are like 4 coffee shops in this Golden Triangle neighborhood within like a block of each other - Metropolis, Flora, Cherry Bean Coffee, and now Schoolyard! I am in this neighborhood a lot for cat-sitting and coffee so I had to check this place out of course! I looked it up the pastry supplier before I arrived because with all of these coffee shops opening everywhere - It seems like a crucial differentiator!!! I realized that I had had coffee with a fellow cat-sitter before out near edgewater at their supplier - Suzette. I remember loving their warmed savory ham and cheese croissant! I was delighted to see this at Schoolyard Cafe but didn't get it. I already know I like it! Instead I noticed a frozen machine behind the barista and inquired... and then sampled... and then purchased!! I did also sample some of their ice creams but... I preferred this frozen espresso martini!! It was a very nice morning. I sat outside with my frozen espresso martini with a stray plastic brontosaurus and my friend.

Remodeled the old Evans school -- Super cute new cafe with an awesome outside patio. Serving coffee ice cream cocktails pastries and sandwiches- just what the neighborhood needs! Also check out the beer garden in the same spot!

The great service and fantastic coffee was just as good as the ambience! There was ample seating for getting work done or socializing. I definitely recommend

Efforts to eat an extremely stale piece of recently purchased Schoolhouse coffee cake

One cannot tell by looking at a piece of cake if it is fresh or not. On June 16 I was pleased to purchase a $5 slice of Schoolyard's delicious-looking "Blueberry Vanilla" coffee cake. An hour later, when I went to eat it, I discovered that it was completely dried out, as hard as a rock. Attempts to cut it with a knife resulted in a pile of sawdust-like crumbs (see photo). This was my first visit to Schoolyard. I even texted a friend to recommend it. Then I was ripped off. I won't be back.

Shout to the team for having our table ready when we got there even though it was very busy that day. We started off with the Fall Salad and I think it was one of my favorite things we ordered. I had no idea beets can be that delicious! After that, everything else came out: roasted carrots, barramundi, and wagyu flank steak. They also put in an order or pommes frites (French fries) on accident and decided to give it to us on the house. Thanks! The roasted carrots were really good and sweet. You could tell they were quality carrots. The barramundi was another one of my favorites. I'm a fan of fish and they did an excellent job of cooking the barramundi with a great sauce(?) that tasted great with it. I found the wagyu steak flank overcooked and really salty which was disappointing given the price. The pommes frites were cooked well but also extremely salty. Overall, I would recommend Sunday Vinyl if you are trying to take someone to a place that is unique and don't mind paying a bit extra. It is a bit loud in there (we had to raise our voices a bit to hold a conversation) but it is also a vinyl place so you would expect them to show off their music.

The Mccaviar was so good, I never thought of pairing lebneh with caviar and now I think I'll have to replicate this at home. The drinks were delicious as well. The menu was recently refreshed and it shows. The mushroom paella was loaded and perfectly cooked, the burrata was a solid start, and the Turkish pizza with halloumi was a surprise standout. The poached cod was also great, especially the sauce. The drinks were just as strong. The L5 margarita with salt foam was really good, and even the frosé, which I usually skip, worked perfectly here. The vibe is a big part of it. The downtown views are hard to beat and the patio is easily one of the better ones in the city. Inside also feels intentional and well designed. Service was excellent. Avery was our server and it was her first day, which you wouldn't have guessed. Carl and Mark also made the experience feel smooth and welcoming. For dessert, the Lisbon chocolate cake and Turkish kunefe were both great. The Basque cheesecake and lobster salad also stood out and had those memorable bites that stick with you. Overall, a really strong experience and definitely a place worth making a reservation for.

I'd say needs and expectations were met and slightly exceeded. Our server was fantastic, very personable and engaging. The drinks were great. I tried their house marg with the salt foam and loved that, a unique experience compared to a salted rim. We sat outside and had a great view of downtown. I assume seating on the other side would give you a view of the mountains but we didn't explore. For the food, we just ordered 2 starters: eggplant fries and patatas bravas. The potatoes were dry and starchy and not crispy like I would hope and expect for the dish, would not order again. The eggplant fries on the other hand were amazing - crispy with a sweet glaze and perfectly tender on the inside. I would come back just for these fries. The seafood dishes looked and smelled amazing as we saw other tables get them and I'd come back to order other dishes just because the views, drinks, and service were so great.

Loved the perfectly chewy ropes of bucatini tangled with crumbled blue cheese, Castelvetrano olives -- and vodka sauce? This should've been a weird disaster, but wound up being our table's favorite dish. Every dish is a commitment to the genuinely unexpected. There was something delightfully more than just salt, pepper and fry behind the eggroll-sized mozarella sticks. Then there was the fig gelato, flanked by warm pear -- and oh my gosh, the apple tart! We had to go back and reread the menu to realize that the caramel really was spicy! This kitchen really finds the funky note in a dish and leans into it. Come ready to share. Every item comes in a "single" and a "mingle" size, which was great for our table of four. We would order 1-2 mingle-sized items, pass them around, and argue about who gets the last forkful. The rough edge is perhaps the service, but this spot is new and finding its rhythm. We found the handoff between counter and floor to be clunky, since it felt like pressure to order in order to be seated, not to order drinks and wait for a table. Maybe this works in a larger space. Maybe they just need to smooth out the flow. Either way, the people are sweet, and the food delicious.

It's definitely truly authentic, it reminded us of being back in Mexico City with fresh ingredients, spices and flavor profile. Aguachile De Erizo: I got this for the uni, it was a nice dish, very light and summery. I can't say I loved it though. I ate the uni first, and then the rest of it almost resembled a nice fruit salad with fish. It's small, so you can eat it in a few bites. Tostada de toro: Everyone gets this, and you should too. A great burst of flavor, with a spicy finish. It's beautifully made, and the fish is amazing. Flautas De Pollo: This fell flat for me, it was too bland and nothing stood out. Pescadilla De "Marlin": This was a really nice, well balanced dish. It was more street food style, and well executed. Costillal De Res: The meat fell off the bone, great flavor and filling if you're hungry. We had a few fun mezcal cocktails and a margarita. I hope they keep changing the menu to keep us coming back.

I've been staying at home, but was out of some of the beer I wanted to use. I went out for another errand and happened to pass by Cask and Craft. Hmmm...this sounds interesting. Plus it's a local shop, and I'm all about supporting local, particularly during this time. I pulled up Cask and Craft's website and was super happy to see the list of precautions they are taking to keep their customers safe. Some of these precautions include only 2 people in the shop at a time, use provided hand sanitizer when you enter, and even curbside pick up/delivery. Since I was sitting in front of the store, I figured I'd just go in, get what I needed, and quickly head home. I was greeted and asked to use the hand sanitizer upon entering - yes, thank you. I then explained from a distance that I was looking for a dark beer, preferably a stout. I was escorted to the back of the store and shown the fridge with all the dark beer. WOW! big selection. I had the choice of 6 packs, 4 packs, or mix and match. This was perfect for me because I needed 5 beers. I ended up selecting Jackie O's Java the Stout. When I brought up my 5 pack, the owner told me it was a great beer (one of his favorite dark beers) and that it was a solid choice. He was not wrong. This beer is awesome, and paired so well with my peanut butter cookie pairing. So good. I will definitely be back to Cask and Craft. Their shop is filled with all different types of wine, liquor, and beer. It's organized so nicely, and the shop itself has this comforting vibe when you walk in.
