This store is pretty amazing, I visited it three times in a week just because there is so much to look at in one visit and it's so fun! They have a huge selection of.....well it seems like everything. The store is neat, organized and staff always friendly and helpful. LOVE this place! We literally go here every other week to have to walk around and shop. Its like a mall for outdoors equipment. They have a small arcade, aquarium, a candy shop and even a dam ferris wheel! They also always have ammo at good prices which is still hard to come by. Man i love Scheels! Every since discovering this gem in Fargo i was happy to see it while on my trip in SLC. Same idea, two stories with the gear and clothing, ferris wheel in the middle and some snack bar stuff, along with my favorite shooting game. The only thing i was disappointed by was the lack of jerky selection. We were directed to a stand of Jack Link's brand but the mother hub store in Fargo had the coolest selection of exotic jerk like alligator, ostrich, bison, kangaroo. (Not that i eat any of that but it made a nice gift to bring home.) All in all i still scored a pair of Utah Utes sweats to add to my traveling sweatpants collection. Its a great place that has lots of options on gear all in one place. The staff is always friendly and respectful. Best part is they are dog friendly. They always welcome us when you come in!! Its a great place to go to not only shop but also to cool off when its a hot day!! Reading up about Scheels we came to find out they are employee owned so they care about their employees!! Scheels is one of the few stores that really takes care of their customers. Yes it's a larger chain store but you get the feeling like you're at an old mom and pop shop- it's great. From George over in hunting to all the guys in archery (Pat, Austin Zach and Parker) they really do go above and beyond to make sure you're well taken care of. read more

Scheels is without a doubt HUGE! It is as if an REI swallowed a Cabella's which consumed a Sport's Authority which finished the meal with a Target store for desert. The Scheels in Sandy has a massive inventory and for anyone looking for outdoor items, hunting and fishing gear, sports equipment, workout apparel, and just about everything else you could want Scheels has it. But what Scheels doesn't have is probably more important then what it does have... What Scheels doesn't seem to have is great prices. Given the massive store they built and the high overhead costs they no doubt have, the prices at Scheels were expensive and I didn't see much on sale. I would expect Scheels to run sales throughout the year and coupons too, so that will help. For my money I'd rather shop at REI for most camping and outdoor gear because they offer members 10% back on everything; have regular sales and clearances; and REI has a lifetime return policy on everything you purchase. For other items Sport's Authority is good enough for me. They may not offer as grandiose a selection as Scheels but their prices are more competitive in my opinion. All things considered I don't see myself shopping at Scheels very often. While the store is very nice, the inventory is impressive, and the even have a ferris wheel to boot, it all comes down to cost for me. There are lots of options for outdoor gear and sporting goods and Scheels will need to compete on cost to win more of my business. read more

I've been excited to see the new mega-sized powerhouse of all-things sporty called Scheels and left with a solid "meh." Maybe I'm cynical, pessimistic, generally sad, or something else but there seems to be a LOT whipped cream and not very much pudding at this place. The whipped cream (ferris wheel, games, dead animals posing on rocks) looks cool but shouldn't outshine the pudding (sporting goods.) This place is a Jack of all trades when it comes to sporting goods and dabbles in just about everything under the sun. I was extremely impressed with the hockey selection but for all of the wrong reasons. I don't play hockey or know anyone that does, I was just impressed that someplace in this State sold that much gear. Not much else left a great impression. While they dabble in every sport, it doesn't get too deep in any one genre. The pricing I looked at was competitive but nothing really low enough to pass up other retailers to drive to this monster of a store. The customer service was a bit lacking as well. Several employees walked by me and I wasn't greeted a single time. This in 90 minutes of walking around. Seems service isn't the #1 priority here. The other real disappointment was the food court experience. They had a lot of selection but were out of the one item I truly wanted to snack on. That's okay. The fact that they weren't extremely nice about the situation and actually asked "can't you see that it's out?" was a real turn off. Oh you fancy. This behemoth store popped up in Sandy and I've been meaning to stop by and peek in the door. It's nice. Nice in the massive sporting goods store way that I think we almost have come to expect, but polished up a little. They've done a good job of compartmentalizing what could almost be an unwieldy shopping experience. When you're in menswear, you know it. When you're in guns, you know it. Camping, fishing, and so on. This place leans much heavier to ESPN sports crowd than the Outdoor TV crowd, and the whole bottom level is all about the clothing. I wasn't blown away by their fishing department, but it's totally serviceable. A nice selection of lures and flies, some rods, reels, and a somewhat small selection of fly-tying supplies. Guns are out for your perusal and handling, which was a different experience for me, but welcome. I hate having 2 guys behind the gun counter with 87 people in line (especially these days). The selection is pretty nice in both rifle and shotty and they have a small gun library where the big bucks are locked up. There's a small cafe inside with sandwiches and comfort food. This store has signs at the entrance telling people to wear masks. I went into the store and saw at least 1/2 dozen people not wearing masks. I brought this to the attention of two employees who said they understand, but can't enforce it. So, I went to a third employee who called a manager over who said "we follow CDC guidelines." I asked "What do you do with people who don't wear masks?" She said "There is nothing we can do." I said "I'm leaving now and will make sure I let my friends know." My wife and I had just come into town from doing some dispersed Camping at Silver Lake. We had a couple hours to kill before we could check in to the hotel. I know we probably looked a little rough from camping, but nothing to warrant the fact both of us got stalked around the store by general manager as if we were going to steal something. I've never been profile like that before and put back everything I was going to buy. Went in to buy a gun and scope. Over a $3000 dollar purchase. Went in and asked for help, was told "we will be right with you" this happens 4 times over the course of an hour and a half. There was also many people in the back room just sitting there. By the time they finally go to me the paperwork wouldn't go through cause they waited so long. They didn't wanna sell a gun. I had no idea what to expect when we first visited Scheels because I'd never heard of it or looked into it. All I knew is that there was a ferris wheel and that alone was enough to turn me into a lookyloo. It's enormous as others have said, but to a shocking degree of enormity. They seriously have everything you can imagine, and fun stuff to look at like animatronic Abe Lincoln, taxidermy stuffed animal photo op stations, and a food place with a huge counter of fudge. Huge sporting goods store with everything you can imagine. Not a bargain basement place but quality clothing and equipment.

Having watched this place be built over the past few months, I have to say I was quite intrigued to visit. And visit I did once I'd given it a couple weeks for the initial crazy busy crowds to die down a little. Scheels is really quite an interesting mix. I assumed it would be just like Cabella's, just a more convenient location (since it's a lot closer to my house). And in some ways it is, but it also seems to have something of an identity crisis. It's like outdoor store meets the fairground, aquarium, clothing, jewelery and accessories store! It's pretty unique. And honestly pretty fun and has something for everyone. This place is so big I literally lost my mother in law here. Now I could make a joke about adding another star for that, but would I do such a thing? Regardless, my wife had to call her to track her down. As well as the usual outdoor/sporting goods you would expect, it has lots of fun and games for the kids (read "us adults who have not yet grown up"). Even has a Ferris wheel right in the middle. They also seem to do a good line in Yeti costumes, well I think that's what they were!!! It's definitely a fun place to visit, if you've not been yet I would definitely check it out! read more

These guys have helped me replace lost fishing equipment, and guided me through the transition from fishing in Oregon to fishing in Utah. I came in with my dog who I'm training as a service animal and at different times while I was walking aroh d & looking for a hip/Fanny pack for my upcoming trip, I didn't get the two ladies nAmes but one went out of her way to walk me around to thE different displays to show me what was aacailanle. The ladies coMplimemted my did at how good she wAAs working . When it was time for me to check out the gentleman was courteous as well. Interesting place to kill a few hours, but prices are too high here to justify buying much, besides thier candied cinnamon almonds. Ferris wheel is slow but it's a unique experience to have indoors. Saltwater aquarium is massive and cool to see, but sad when you notice so many fish are sick and damaged by territorial fighting. Salesman are annoying and pushy. Really, I'm surprised this place does enough business to support so many employees. read more

This is a fun family shopping experience. They have great sporting clothes and shoes for the whole family. Then as an extra treat you can all ride the Ferris wheel located inside the building. The Ferris wheel is a dollar which you would need to get a wooden token from the cashier then head to the Ferris wheel. We love the Ferris wheel! They gave a great play area for the kids under 6 or so. They have lots of beautiful fish in a salt water tank. It's a fun way to shop and still entertain. We love Scheels. read more

We web ordered a bike for my son and opted for curb pick-up. When we got to the curb and called to let the staff know we were there, we waited for a few minutes before a staff member came out to apologize for taking so long. They were assembling the bike! Totally didn't expect that bonus! As an apology for the wait, we received a Scheel's gift card. This is seriously high-quality customer service! The bike was good quality at a nice price. This places covers the majority of our outdoor recreational gear and it changes throughout the seasons. I was hoping to get a snowboarding helmet for my son since the one he's using is a little big, but their selection is slim since it's phasing out with spring sports. I enjoy browsing through the women's section because they have a lot of the well known name brands that support the outdoor lifestyle like Patagonia, Kuhl, Northface, Columbia just to name a few. I can spend a lot in this place if I'm not careful. right now the winter gear is on sale, so it's a good time to browse through before they push it all out for spring and summer gear. They don't have the Ferris wheel running and they don't have the nut stand setup which is a bummer, but maybe that will be normal again someday soon. This store is awesome on the inside, has mini bowling, shooting gallery, virtual golf and pretty much everything you can think of. Sadly as my brother and I were waiting to get some golf shoes we waited for 30 minutes at the shoes and no one asked if we needed help. Maybe it is because we just came down from camping so we don't "look" like we could buy stuff. I would hope the book isn't judged by its cover, but I even was trying find a few things and no one would ask if I needed help, they would just nod and say hello. We were looking to buy a bunch of golf stuff. Golf like the expensive sport. Not impressed by the customer service. The two people were able to sit and chat like it was the water cooler but not seeing if people needed help. read more

Half the customers weren't wearing masks or it incorrectly. Management obviously does not care about enforcing any COVID guidelines it's ridiculous. Ive seen complaints about this been posted for months so they're not trying to correct the problem. If you are at all concerned about COVID you should avoid this store. read more

About the only quality thing you'll get at Sheels is a great case of Covid. Even management were walking around without masks. I have no idea why a business like this would care so little for their clientele that they don't even put forth the slightest effort to enforce mask wearing within their store.
