We came here hoping to have French toast but they didn't have it even though it was on the online menu. I got the gluten free cranberry muffin and chai and both were really good. The muffin was better than I expected and the chai was nice and foamy and fun to drink. Parking is difficult but there's a parking lot a few blocks away.
Food and service were both excellent. I brought the family, dog included, on a sunny Saturday morning for brunch, and we had a really good time. We ordered the steak and eggs, smoked salmon, pancakes, and the biscuit sampler, and everything was great. It would have been a five-star visit if not for the credit card surcharge, which we didn't know about until the bill came.
Scarlet Begonia is such a gem! The pancakes were honestly some of the best I've ever had--fluffy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. I'm already dreaming about coming back for them! Such a great spot for brunch, and the service is 10/10!!
STEPH JUDGEMENT: Cute spot with delicious breakfasts. This place came up with high marks so the hubby and I decided to stop for breakfast here on our way out of town. The reviews didn't steer us wrong; we thought it was really great. The atmosphere was homey but refined--no greasy spoon, this. They had a fair amount of vegetarian items, which we appreciated. We couldn't resist getting a cinnamon roll, which was enormous and delicious! Went really well with their good strong coffee. I got the Avocado Toast, which had a LOT of avocado, with a little bit of arugula. It was very simple--just what I wanted. The hubby enjoyed his soft scrambled eggs, which came with creamed spinach, Gouda, and roasted fingerling potatoes, in a pool of creamy sauce. The homemade jam which came with his side of sourdough toast was excellent. Service was friendly but a little slow, but they were pretty busy. I can understand why they're popular! Would definitely visit again at the next opportunity.
Searching for a nice, quiet, pleasant surroundings to relax and have breakfast? Well, I recommend making Scarlett Begonia the place. Welcoming friendly staff; warm home like atmosphere. It's like having breakfast in your own house but with the added luxury of someone serving you perfectly done breakfast. We were just passing time waiting for our car service to be finished. Erin our server was the best. Friendly, efficient and did not rush us; we were allowed to just chill and enjoy. The Restaurant is roomy with plenty of space and areas to sit and relax. Good space for small or larger groups. The price point is a little on the higher end but the quality of the food matches the price. We did not have any bakery items, but I am told they are "a must " to share and enjoy.
This is the perfect Santa Barbara spot for brunch! It's super cute and nestled off State Street and has a quaint friendly vibe with plenty of seating. We had various brunch options including their biscuit sampler and espresso martinis and then the main event included salmon Benedict with potatoes (served on their house biscuit OMG!), the house cheeseburger with fries and the scramble with veggies (forgive me I don't remember the name as it appears on the menu). We were celebrating a birthday so our amazing server Viviane gave the birthday girl some amazing chocolate cake for desert. Overall, Scarlet Begonia was the perfect spot for us to conclude another epic weekend in SB! If you're in town, you should definitely check them out!
DELICIOUS!!! Got the deconstructed smoked salmon bagel with a side of lemon ricotta pancake topped with butter and blueberry compote. My other half had the turkey club and clam chowder. Service was quick and very friendly. The atmosphere is relaxing.

Came here on a pouring rainy day after New Year and was seated right away. The day before when it was all sunshine, there was a line forming during the afternoon. So come early to avoid the line. The inside was cute, precious and warming. Service was wonderful and the food was delicious. First time here, and will definitely come back on my next visit to Santa Barbara.

The ambience is a big part of why I keep coming back. It's cozy, charming, and effortlessly Santa Barbara without trying too hard. They have two patios, one out front and another tucked away in the back. Both are bright and relaxed, perfect for slow mornings and people-watching. Inside feels warm, airy, and comfortable even when it's full. It works just as well for a casual catch-up as it does for a proper sit-down brunch. I honestly don't know what the negative reviews are about because I sure haven't run into that experience here. Not once. Maybe some folks just need to lighten up and order a mimosa. I stick to what I love and I don't mess around. The lemon ricotta pancakes with fresh blueberry compote, housemade syrup, and a side of bacon are my go-to every single time. Perfectly fluffy, balanced, and consistently delicious. When something works, I keep ordering it. Weekends are busy and if you've ever worked brunch service, you already know it's the worst. Speaking as a former server, patience goes a long way and the staff here handles it well. Bonus points for the pup menu because that's always a win. I am glad my cousin brought us here. The service was great, the decor felt like you were eating in a cute home, and the food was amazing. According to the server, the menu rotates dishes. So there wasn't a French toast option when we went. The dirty fries are a must and the orange juice is freshly squeezed! Everyone enjoyed it here.
I called several places in advance while planning my trip through Santa Barbara, which in general is not very dog-friendly. When I called this restaurant, I spoke with Erin. As soon as I asked about bringing dogs, her response was, "I'm not really a dog person, but we allow them as long as they don't speak and are better behaved than children." I assumed she was joking. The restaurant opened early and had been featured in a Santa Barbara article as one of the best places to take your dog (that article will be getting my next review). The next morning, I arrived and was warmly greeted by a nice hostess. However, my waitress was Erin, and I immediately recognized her from her tone. When she saw my two 10-pound Miniature Schnauzers, she acted as though we had a disease. She would barely come near the table and said, "Just so you know, the only time I've ever been bitten by a dog was at a restaurant," then proceeded to keep her distance. It was obvious she was trying to appear pleasant while making it equally obvious that she did not want us there. Ironically, my dogs never growl, but one of them actually growled during this interaction, likely in response to her aggressive demeanor. To avoid any issues, we decided to get our food to go. By the way, we were the only customers in the restaurant at the time. There was no concern about other guests--just one employee who clearly should not be working in a dog-friendly establishment. After leaving, I opened my takeout container to find a terrible plate of biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. It was so poorly prepared that I wouldn't even feed it to a homeless dog. Overall, this was a disappointing experience and a poor representation of both customer service and Santa Barbara hospitality.
Outstanding service by our server Alex, very attentive, very helpful and didn't have to wait for anything- everything was perfect! Food is also awesome, huge sizes, we got breakfast sandwich and egg and steak, everything was delicious, fresh and also super instagramable Would definitely come back. Interiors are very welcoming, classy, I believe this is French or European style.

Food Wife and I were on vacation in Santa Barbara and wanted to give scarlet begonia a try. We ordered a Breakfast Sandwich and Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. The sandwich was really good with soft and fluffy scrambled eggs accompanied by just a perfectly salty ham. The lemon ricotta pancakes were really good as well , just the right amount of tart from the lemon with a good amount of blueberry compote. Service/Ambiance We walked in for a Sunday morning brunch and we were able to get seated pretty much right away when we arrived at opening. The staff were really nice and welcoming and had a pleasant experience dining here. Loved the overall vibe of the place and service for our food was reasonable as well read more

The food was very fresh and delicious. It was recommended by our hotel front desk (instead of the hotel's own restaurant, haha). I an very glad we had a brunch here. My only star removed was due to some confusion with the delivery of our food and drinks. We almost received others' food and drinks a few times. We ordered the Shrimp and grits, and the table behind us had 2 shrimp and grits. So we got the first one and almost received a 2nd, and ai said wait that's not mine. The 2 plates were meant for the other table. Same with our sides. Sausage was almost delivered to us but we ordered bacon. The sausage was for a different table. There was one table on the outside area that was on an uneven surface, but once we moved tables, it was perfect. I lived eating outside under the umbrellas and had separation from the road by their bushes, so it was peaceful. I would definitely eat here again, despite the slight confusion on the food deliveries. read more

Can I just say this is one of my all time favorite brunch spots in California!! Super friendly and attentive waitress! The food was so fresh and so flavorful. I melted on the inside when I had the lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote. The best pancakes I have ever had. Hurry up QUICK and get to Scarlett Begonia.... This is by far the best Restaurant I've eaten at in a long time here in Santa Barabra. Vivian was such a sweet, fun, kind, and bubbly Waitress. She made us feel like we were right at HOME. Thank you Viv!!!! The food was A-MAZING! I had the Shrimp and Grits and my husband had the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes.. The Bacon and Biscuits were GREAT! The restaurant is a hidden gem off State Street here in Santa Barabra. Believe me when I tell you... this restaurant is a GREAT place and it won't disappoint. read more

Great location, great atmosphere for breakfast and the place to be on Saturday it seems. Went to try the musts at this place. Ordered a cinnamon roll that was just perfect. A order of dirty fries that surprisingly were really good. I got the biscuits and gravy, unfortunately it needed salt but I fixed it with asome Tabasco. The pancakes really are a staple there and the burger was juicy and executed well. It was busy but the service was great and prompt to our needs. Will be returning down the road. read more

Great spot for breakfast/ brunch in Santa Barbara. As everything on State street is very expensive at least their food offers memorable food flavors! I loved lemon pancakes! Also their breakfast sandwich was on spot! Cortado was made to perfection! This places get crowded fast so come early or wait a line! Scarlet Begonia is a must in Santa Barbara! The atmosphere is amazing -- vibrant yet cozy -- and our waitress was absolutely wonderful. The food? Next level. The homemade biscuit with butter & jam is heavenly, the mocha latte with Baileys (house‑made!) was perfection, and the green chilaquiles rancheros with shrimp, pancakes, and salmon Benedict were all out of this world. Great service from Erin! We were visiting from out of town and had a pleasant birthday brunch! The biscuits for the benedicts were perfect! We also ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes to share and our server offered to refill the amazing blueberry compote so that every bite of fluffy pancake had blueberries on it. The restaurant also generously provided a slice of chocolate ganache cake as we were celebrating a birthday! Thanks for a wonderful experience! read more

My neighbor invited me to have lunch with her for my birthday. She named a few places near us, but I picked I Scarlet Begonia because the food is consistently delicious, well-presented, and always satisfying. My friend ordered the Benedict and I told her that I've never seen a Benedict with greens, which is the extra step that Scarlett begonia takes to make their food extraordinary vs. ordinary. The potatoes were well prepared and there was so much food that she had to take half of it home. It was quite beautiful as you see in the picture and very tasty. I've eaten here a few times and once I tasted their lemon ricotta pancakes it is my go to Every time. Even though it was 1 o'clock in the afternoon, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to eat these fluffy and moist pancakes that are so light they melt in your mouth! I usually can only eat one pancake, but they were so good I had to eat two, so I indulged. I also ordered the sausage links for the first time and asked for them well done and they came out. Perfect! I needed the extra protein and I already had bacon at home so wanted something different. Those sausages were just delicious and a perfect compliment to the sweet blueberry sauce on the pancakes. Kaylee was our server and she was the most professional, accommodating, friendly, efficient server I've ever encountered in Santa Barbara. I asked her if she was a manager because her demeanor and professionalism was outstanding ask for her he won't be sorry. I was pleasantly surprised when they brought my chocolate cake with strawberries and a candle. I still have some in my refrigerator because I was so full from breakfast. Instead of riding in the SB100 cycling event I came here for breakfast. The sacrifices one must make instead of riding for several hours. We got seated inside right away. There was a beautiful forest mural on the wall of the dining room. I had the lemon-poppyseed pancakes with blueberries and syrup. The kind of meal you should eat after a ride but at my age I chose wisely to come here. I promise to do better next year. read more

Came here on a Monday around12pm. Was half empty and was immediately seated. Ordered the smoked salmon, dirty fries, and waffle with chicken. The smoked salmon was so delicious. The cripsy capers were so delicious on the salmon. The bagels were nice and toasty and overall was super filling and great. My partner got the waffle with fried chicken. The chicken was juicy and the waffle was fluffy and crispy. The maple syrup was not too sweet. The dirty fries were fries coated with some sweet and tangy sauce. It was good with the flaky salt. It was also a relatively big portion and we probably would've been full without ordering it. Service was great and food was delicious. I would come back and order the smoked salmon again in a heartbeat. read more
I really loved this place. Just off state street near the Public Market. The space itself is bright and airy. This is the kind of place you take someone or people for a brunch date. We came on a Monday so obviously grain of salt, it was not busy at all when we visited. Service was great for us! As far as food: i started off with a mocha, nice strong coffee. I really enjoyed it. Then we ordered shrimp and grits, dirty fries and the lemon ricotta pancakes. Everything was delicious and flavorful. The fries were probably the best loaded fry I've ever had. Seriously. The fries themselves stayed crisp and crunchy to the last bite. My husband really enjoyed his shrimp and grits, I snagged a bite and thought there were very good. The pancakes were also so flavorful, fluffy and lightly sweet. I didn't even need syrup, they were near perfection. Our family was on a road trip from the Los Angeles area and upon doing some research on the best brunch places around Santa Barbara on Reddit, Scarlett Begonia came up. Initially we made a reservation that we were an hour late for ah - thank God we were able to still be seated. Thank you to the Scarlett Begonia for accommodating us! Our family is composed of two parents, three mainly adult children, and two dogs. This place has been so welcoming. We ordered the following: *Lemon Ricotta Pancakes - delightful, a good amount of syrup and actual blueberries, the butter wasn't overpowering at all despite its looks which elevated the whole taste *Steak sandwich w side salad - we chose to have the meat be medium rare (you are able to choose the level of how well you'd like your steak to be done), the side salad is a generous portion that made our whole family so happy *Beyond Meat sandwich w side fries - a good burger that wasn't greasy and the fries ARE INCREDIBLE!!! *Green Rancheros - the best combination of vegetables, tacos, guacamole, and a fried egg *Lavendar latte (oat milk) - made in house *Mango Guava Kombucha - not made in house but a good quality one is provided Highlights: the kindness of the service. They are thorough and do not rush their customers. We want to give a HUGE shoutout to Erin for checking in with us regularly and taking the extra steps to make sure we felt welcomed and seen - it made eating all the more enjoyable. Erin, thank you for being so kind to our dogs, getting to know how our day has been, providing us with the ketchup and Tabasco sauce, and ensuring we've had plenty of space for the dishes. Thank you also for the travel recommendations too. This level of service is a standard I notice the whole staff try to uphold. Truly this is what makes this a restaurant I'll be sure to recommend to all my friends, family, and neighbor!! all the syrups are made in house - we were surprised to discover that the lavendar syrup was actually made by hand by pressing the lavendar flowers at Scarlett Begonia! The taste is noticeably different from other lavendar lattes that I've had. if your dog(s) is able to be respectful to people, this is such a wonderful place to bring your dog(s)! We were so delighted to come across the menu offered for dogs specifically! Complimentary water and dog treats are also provided. There is seating in the patio that allows for a good amount of sunlight. the whole place is aesthetically well kept. Had an amazing weekend brunch experience here. Went around 11:30 and it was not too crowded and we were quickly seated. The menu had so many great options and our waitress helped guide us to the popular favorites. We saw every table around us had an order of the dirty fries and cinnamon roll so we knew we needed to try them too. And we were not disappointed, not in the least. The dirty fries are amazingly savory with garlic and bacon flavors coming through. The cinnamon roll is warm with a cream cheese frosting that's killer. We decided to go big with just the two of us and got the brown butter buttermilk waffle with fried chicken and the carnitas breakfast burrito. We almost ordered the cottage cheese bowl but felt like we already were going to have a completely covered table, so that's on our list for our next visit. Food came out looking wonderful and tasted even better. Every dish was a hit and I would recommend each one.
