This is the perfect Santa Barbara spot for brunch! It's super cute and nestled off State Street and has a quaint friendly vibe with plenty of seating. We had various brunch options including their biscuit sampler and espresso martinis and then the main event included salmon Benedict with potatoes (served on their house biscuit OMG!), the house cheeseburger with fries and the scramble with veggies (forgive me I don't remember the name as it appears on the menu). We were celebrating a birthday so our amazing server Viviane gave the birthday girl some amazing chocolate cake for desert. This place was recommended to me by another local business that I visited on State Street. While I thought that we would have a great experience that is not what happened. Immediately when you walk in, there is a sign that says seat yourself. My husband and I found a table that we wanted to sit at in the back near the kitchen, however it needed to be cleaned. We asked the waiter if he would clean it and he said, "NO, there are other table tables upfront. That took us by surprise because of the signage at the entry. We found another table on the back patio that needed to be cleaned and asked if that could be cleaned and the waitress walked by and ignored us. We moved on to another table in the main dining area behind the bar. That was a table for six. While we did not want to sit there for just the two of us. We did it anyway because we were not receiving standard service. When the same waiter, who told us, no, he would not clean the tables came over to take our drink order. We asked him why he didn't clean the table that we had asked for, and he said because there were other tables available, taking no accountability for us as the customer and obliging our request. The waiter took our order and we sat and waited. Approximately three minutes later the waitress who initially ignored us came over and asked us if anyone had taken our order? My husband and I looked at each other and laughed the same waitress who ignored us is now wanting to know if our order had been taken?! Make it make sense. When our order finally arrived, we needed salt and we asked the waiter for that and he told us to wait while he made drinks at the bar. Being a customer and watching you make several drinks we felt like the salt could've been handed to us and gone back to the drinks. I will not return to this restaurant based on the customer service alone. The food was decent, but not spectacular. What would have made this food of spectacular was the customer service that was received however that was not our experience. I am glad my cousin brought us here. The service was great, the decor felt like you were eating in a cute home, and the food was amazing. According to the server, the menu rotates dishes. We couldn't resist getting a cinnamon roll, which was enormous and delicious! Went really well with their good strong coffee. It's located in a vintage house close to the action but away from State Blvd. The coffee was so good I stole my husband's order and they brought another one. My neighbor invited me to have lunch with her for my birthday. She named a few places near us, but I picked I Scarlet Begonia because the food is consistently delicious, well-presented, and always satisfying. My friend ordered the Benedict and I told her that I've never seen a Benedict with greens, which is the extra step that Scarlett begonia takes to make their food extraordinary vs. ordinary. The potatoes were well prepared and there was so much food that she had to take half of it home. It was quite beautiful as you see in the picture and very tasty. I've eaten here a few times and once I tasted their lemon ricotta pancakes it is my go to Every time. Even though it was 1 o'clock in the afternoon, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to eat these fluffy and moist pancakes that are so light they melt in your mouth! I usually can only eat one pancake, but they were so good I had to eat two, so I indulged. I also ordered the sausage links for the first time and asked for them well done and they came out. Perfect! I needed the extra protein and I already had bacon at home so wanted something different. Those sausages were just delicious and a perfect compliment to the sweet blueberry sauce on the pancakes. Kaylee was our server and she was the most professional, accommodating, friendly, efficient server I've ever encountered in Santa Barbara. Had an amazing weekend brunch experience here. Went around 11:30 and it was not too crowded and we were quickly seated. The menu had so many great options and our waitress helped guide us to the popular favorites. We saw every table around us had an order of the dirty fries and cinnamon roll so we knew we needed to try them too. And we were not disappointed, not in the least. The dirty fries are amazingly savory with garlic and bacon flavors coming through. The cinnamon roll is warm with a cream cheese frosting that's killer. We decided to go big with just the two of us and got the brown butter buttermilk waffle with fried chicken and the carnitas breakfast burrito. We almost ordered the cottage cheese bowl but felt like we already were going to have a completely covered table, so that's on our list for our next visit. Honestly, food quality is just meh -- funny, I just read all the other reviews and literally they all said "MEH" the same adjective. I remember this place a few years ago and loved it -- 5 years ago. At our table, we had eggs benedict w potatoes (not sure why you need so many mustard grains which add nothing and overpower everything else), latte was very weak, shrimp and grits was good (added a tiny bit of salt) except the eggs were literally raw (they call it light poached but they were runny like a little kids nose and shrimp was barely even blackened and also looked slimy bc it needs to be blackened) and when they brought new eggs to add in, the poached eggs had yolks that were hard as a rock...scone was really dry and super small for $5 dollars. When I asked for butter and jam for the scone the server told me that nobody has that on their scone (really???) and it took another 15 mins for them to bring it. Scrambled eggs, I didn't try so I don't know. Thick bacon was good if you like that kind. Bread/toast was ok. The grapefruit juice was good though and fresh. The bill for 4 of us was 160 plus which was insane for subpar food and mediocre service. Im sorry, its just very very bland... I think the reason for the positive reviews is that they see a little Santa Barbara spot and they think, oh little house, that is cute...and they aren't really tasting the food...all of us thought it was mediocre. It was super backed and busy and I recall having to wait a little while before we were seated. The last time we went was in the late morning and we got in right away! The waitress was so nice.
