Short rib, lamb papardelle, and lasagna were the stand out dishes to me. I think appetizers were pretty standard, nothing special. EXCEPT-- the oyster mushrooms, sooo good I could eat the whole plate. The sauce for the mussels is really yummy and garlicky. The give you bread, as much as you ask for. The atmosphere when I was there was very hectic and chaotic, but the three staff members on the floor did a fantastic job of taking care of everyone in the restaurant. We had to wait a little bit to be seated, so we were able to sit at the bar and sip on some wine in the meantime. Their chardonnay was one of the favorites I've ever had. It was smooth, slightly sweet, and so buttery. Their pour was also very generous. A great way to start off my meal. We ordered the bufala mozzarella di campania appetizer (asked for the prosciutto on the side). There was a delicious thin dressing on the arugula, and the mozzarella was sooooo scrumptious. The prosciutto was also sliced amazingly thin and was so tasty. Between the various ingredients--arugula, mozzarella, tomatoes, prosciutto--everything was so balanced. A wonderful appetizer. I ordered the fettuccine truffle (one of their menu specials). The item description said something like "truffle, butter, cream," and it was 100% spot on! The truffle was very pleasant and not overwhelming, and the butter/cream was so rich. Now the pasta texture, that was AMAZING. I don't think I've ever been so impressed by a pasta texture. What a wonderful place - Had a great dinner. There were seven of us and everyone loved their entrees. Lasagna, Rib eye steak, pasta with shrimp in an Alfredo Sauce were all delicious! I have had every single item because they make each and every one of them to perfection. My favourite is the papperdelle! I have come to this place in the last month atleast 10 times its basically routine at this point. From the appetizers to desserts you can not order anything that will not taste good. Another thing to mention is the incredible service. There three people who run SCALINO and all of them will talk to you and be friends with you as if they knew you for you entire life. Rustic no frills Italian food in Greenpoint. The owner graciously served us on Sunday for lunch. There is isn't a brunch specific menu which is exactly what my husband wants... no eggs! (I personally love a good brunch spot.) We had: Sautéed calamari and sautéed oyster mushrooms for appetizer - two separate dishes. Both fresh and delicious! Calamari was sautéed with a little olive oil, cherry peppers and onion. He gave us an iPad that lists the menu items with pictures which I thought was very useful. They offered complimentary bread and olive oil. For my entree, I got the pappardelle with tomato sauce and bacon. The pappardelle pasta itself tasted great and was cooked perfectly. However, although the tomato cream sauce tasted how it is exactly described, it was very one note in flavor. I wish there was something else to brighten the dish. My friend got the pappardelle with white cream sauce and bacon. It tasted milky and was very heavy and thick. I appreciated that they offer to shred cheese from a cheese block to top the pastas. Our night started with our server berating a bartender and demanding she give me her glasses despite both of our very obvious discomfort and refusal. Even involving other tables in the restaurant and buddies he had at the bar with remarks like "look at this guy he eats like a little girl" etc making my partner extremely uncomfortable and offended- not to mention the other tables. I then ordered a top shelf amaro which he refused to serve to us until we had finished our food. Fully refused. I have never experienced such inappropriate and intrusive behavior from a server, it felt like we were on an episode of Bar Rescue or Kitchen Nightmares. These amongst other remarks and loud exclamations from our very hot and cold server left us with such mixed feelings as, had the service been better, I would have left a 5 star raving review.
