Classic Grilled Cheese Combo
Kim P.

Located right next door to a hotel, if you aren't looking for this place, it would be easy to walk on by! We stopped in on a weekday for lunch. I got a Halloumi sandwich and my husband got a grilled cheese with tomato soup. I also ordered an oasis smoothie which has dates, oat milk and banana. The Halloumi sandwich has slices of tomato and cucumber on a grilled sandwich with Halloumi. I had never had Halloumi on bread before, and I really enjoyed it, there's lots of seating and once you order a server will bring your sandwich to you. The vibe was relaxing and I'm excited to comeback and try another sandwich.

Classic Dipper Sandwich

amazing food! i ordered the dipper combo which was the grilled cheese (i did sourdough bread) and tomato soup! the best tomato soup i have ever had in my entire life. i can't wait to come back with friends and family. they also gave GF(gluten free) bread which is an amazing option! the workers were so kind and welcoming. the place overall was so clean and homey. can't wait to come back

It's a very cozy atmosphere, Classical music is playing while you dine. The menu is written on the chalkboard as you walk in. There are plenty of tables to sit down a group of two or a group of 10. They have outdoor seating in the front of the establishment and the backyard. They have more tables and heaters for the evening, dining, and a firepot. This is a very elegant and classy dining experience. If you wanna go on a date, this is the perfect place. It could also be a little sophisticated depending on what's your level I enjoyed the experience. The food was delicious and fresh, if I'm ever in DC, I will come back and give them a visit. Say Cheese!!!

Adorable little spot with gorgeous seating area that is super cute and cozy! Def a small business, with excellent food made to order. Don't pop in for a second, you need to sit for a minute and stay as this is not fast food! We had some brekkie with a quiche and a smoothie, and all the items were quite delicious and pretty darn healthy with greens galore. We loved the food and the ambience and the owner was so very kind with us having our kiddo along; def a great spot to grab a bite for brekkie!

I never thought I'd ever go anywhere for a grilled cheese sandwich, but now I have an obsession. Many people think a grilled cheese is best made at home, but they are wrong. This was by far the best grilled cheese sandwich I've ever had in my life. The sandwich is made on sourdough bread. I can't tell you what kind of cheese was in it, but it wasn't just American. It tasted like I was eating Mac and cheese between two slices of bread. The sandwich was grilled to perfection. The pumpkin lentil soup was also something to rave about. It had a very delicious herby and hearthy taste to it. Everything I had here was made with love. The owner Suzy was such a sweet heart. She prepared me a delicious chai latte to conclude my meal. The timing was perfect. It was a beautiful fall afternoon and here I am in Georgetown enjoying a classic grilled cheese sandwich, pumpkin lentil soup, and a chai latte. This is what autumn is about. This was comfort and tranquility. I'm excited to come back to Georgetown again so I can try another sandwich and another bowl of soup. Thank you for the wonderful meal! The only downside to this was it took long to place our order. They are clearly short staffed and doing everything they can to serve customers quickly. So be patient with the staff. They are doing their best. You really need to give this place a chance. The prices are very fair for what you're getting. If you want a cheap standard grilled cheese this isn't the place for you. If you want a grilled cheese that's going to change the way you think about grilled cheese then you need to come here. I can also attest that the owner is very welcoming of people from all backgrounds. My friend and I felt very accepted here. A good business owner does not judge their customers, and Suzy is clearly a wonderful business owner that deserves recognition where it's due.

Very tiny restaurant with great atmosphere. I had the Greek salad and chicken soup. The soup was steaming hot and had chicken vegetables and broth, it was delicious. The salad was fresh and pretty decent. This place is just off M street and it's a good thing there was a sandwich board sign out front because I wouldn't have even noticed it.

A cool fall afternoon and our growling stomachs led us to Say Cheese at their new location on Thomas Jefferson Ave. And boy are we glad we did! We got the Apple and Brie - smooth melted Brie stuffed with sliced green apples and a thin layer of fig jam on crispy toast. Sweet, smooth and delicious. The Mac and cheese sandwich was decadence in a plate - gooey and chewy mac and cheese stuffed between crispy toast. And a tuna melt , just a little spicy, and a Greek salad, fresh and bright, washed down with an iced tea and an iced mocha. Don't forget the chips - one bag per sandwich, and the cozy intimate decor. Definitely a meal worth talking about, you gotta try this place!

Scrumptious Mac & Cheese! Loved the cozy grilled cheese cafe, can't believe I finally discovered it 3 years after they opened up! There are a few small tables inside for seating and a couple of tables in front of the restaurant. The Go Green grilled cheese was tasty with ripe avocado and tomato, which overpowered the monterey jack cheese. If you like avocado, go for it! The side of mac and cheese was divine with a spicy kick from the monterey jack cheese. Glad I got a side and next time will go for the grilled Mac N' Cheese sandwich! The house-made Oreo cookie was a delicious with Oreo cookies baked into the batter. Skip the cappuccino - it was burnt and too hot to drink. The elderly woman owner is nice and passionate about making the mac and cheese so tasty! The cafe is truly a hidden gem off the main drag on M street and excited to go back for the Grilled Mac N' Cheese sandwich!

This was a cute little sandwich spot that we saw walking through the area. We've never heard of the place before but thought it'll be perfect to try with our preteens. The girls loved their grilled cheese sandwiches. I had the tuna melt and it was okay. I wouldn't order the tuna melt if I was to visit again. The service was nice. There was one woman taking the orders and one woman on the grill. The wait wasn't too bad although they looked busy. The restaurant space is quaint and small. There was enough room for our party of 6. The girls sat at the high top bar and us parents sat at a long wooden table. I would visit again if I am in the area and try the grilled cheese sandwich myself. It did look really good.

A true Georgetown gem. Everything from menu items to cookies to lemonade are freshly homemade. Tasty and fresh. Prices are reasonable too. Spacious and cozy environment, like home dining. Owner is fantastic. Please give it a try when you are in the neighborhood.

Came here for lunch. Very cute little shop. I ordered a soup and a sandwich. Chicken sandwich #1 was delicious. It came with cheese, chicken, bell peppers, Mayo, onions on sourdough bread. The chicken was diced up. If also came with chips on the side. A little on the salty side. I also ordered the tomato soup. I'm sorry but it was not my cup of tea. It tasted sweet. Too sweet for me. It was nice filling my sandwich in it though. Combination of sweet and salty. Overall, I would come back and try another sandwich. They all sound delicious.

Wonderful service. Ingredients are fresh and everything on the menu is delicious. Cute garden outside where you can see their produce. Such a gem of a place that I am grateful I stumbled upon. Cheers!

I ordered the chimichurri steak plate and really enjoyed it. Funnily enough, the chimichurri itself was the least enjoyable item. I didn't love the texture of it (much too coarse) but, fortunately, it was packaged in a small container separate instead of on the steak itself. The salad probably had a bit too much dressing but I had the option to order that on the side so that's on me. Nonetheless, the steak, potatoes, salad, corn, avocado were all excellent. I also added chips, a lemon zest cookie, and a blueberry breeze handcrafted drink. The cookie is big and chewy, unlike others I have had. It's definitely not something to eat in one sitting. The drink was a little blah and nothing I would order again. All in all, very good!

A delicious bowl. My partner got the Baja bowl (dressing on the side), which they also enjoyed. We were each surprised how big and how filling the bowls were. We ordered a side of hummus ($7.79). It was a nice portion with pita bread, but the hummus was kind of "meh." Texture was good but not much flavor. A disappointment. The beverage bar has an interesting variety of self-serve drinks, including unsweetened tea, tea with pineapple, a mango drink and a drink with a kale base. I tried several of them and mixed some together. It was $4. Worth a try. The place was not crowded when we were there and it's comfortable. Nice upbeat music playing not-too-loudly in the background.

The weight was super busy, but we were able to meet a couple on the way in who had a reservation. When we got up to the front, we noticed that the couple ran to the counter at the bar and got seats. When we asked the hostess, how long the wait for a party of two would be she said one hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes. I had to catch my flight so we definitely could not wait that long. Right when we were about leave and walk away, the very kind and nice couple (Montez & Alayna) that we met walking up, told us that they had secured bar seats and that we could take their breakfast brunch dining reservation. THIS WAS A BLESSING! I purchased their first round of drinks because they were generous with their reservation. There are great people in this city, thanks! We were seated right away at a dining table, and the place was packed, as usual. Our server was wonderful. I believe her name was Alisha or Aisha, and she took care of us very well. We ordered: Naan Bread Appetizer, Blueberry Pancakes with Mascarpone, side of chicken sausage, Creme Brûlée French Toast, side of scrambled eggs, and side of Hash browns. For beverages we had coffee and apple juice plus water. Our food came out within 10 to 12 minutes and everything was delicious and amazing. We were so stuffed and really enjoyed our time here. At the end of our reservation the restaurant Manager approached us (named Derek or Ryan) with the gentleman from the couple who gave us his reservation. They surprised us each with a decadent dessert! This was in response to us buying their first round of drinks. The customer service of our server was AMAZING, the food was DELICIOUS, and the surprise desserts were FABULOUS! This is definitely our go-to restaurant in DC. Thank you for another AWESOME experience!! it's about to rain. I see it.

I visited Unconventional Diner on a Monday morning around 10 a.m. to catch up with a longtime friend, and what a culinary experience! The atmosphere is gorgeous! Modern, sleek, and stylish while maintaining that cozy diner charm. Another pleasant surprise? Street parking! I found parking right around the corner, which is a huge plus in D.C., especially when nearby garages charge $20 or more. Now, let's talk FOOD! My friend ordered the Hibiscus Citrus drink, which was refreshing and delicious. I enjoyed fresh decaf coffee served in a wonderful insulated mug that kept it perfectly warm. Loved that thoughtful touch! My friend ordered the fluffy buttermilk pancakes with blueberry-lavender sauce and mascarpone cream. She shared a portion with me, and WOW! The delicate floral notes, bright citrus flavor, and creamy mascarpone were a beautiful combination. Absolutely delicious! Those pancakes are definitely on my list for next time. I ordered the corned beef hash with over-medium eggs. The corned beef tasted incredibly fresh, and the gravy was rich, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Whoever is running that kitchen deserves their flowers! The food was a solid 10/10. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the food. Having worked as a server and hostess for many years, I understand the demands of the industry, but I also know how much great hospitality can elevate a dining experience. Our server was inattentive and rarely checked on us. My decaf coffee was mistakenly refilled with regular coffee, requiring a replacement cup. The hostess wasn't particularly welcoming either. Overall, the hospitality was disappointing. What made this especially frustrating was the automatic 20% service charge. Our $61 meal totaled $80.52 after the $12.20 service charge and taxes. I don't mind paying for excellent service, but when a restaurant automatically includes a service charge, the hospitality should reflect that expectation. Would I return? ABSOLUTELY! The food is simply THAT GOOD! The menu is creative, the atmosphere is beautiful, and I'm already looking forward to trying those pancakes again and exploring their cocktail menu. I'm hoping the service was simply an off day. Final verdict: The kitchen understood the assignment! If the front-of-house team could match that same energy, Unconventional Diner would easily become one of my favorite breakfast spots in D.C.!

We ordered our food with the host/cashier and waited at our table for the food to be delivered. My companion's food was delivered and the server asked us if there was anything else. I said my food hadn't come and she asked me what I ordered. I told her it was the Greek goddess. I had to wait quite a long time for my meal to arrive and when it did, the server placed the plate on the table, grabbed the table number and walked away.No apology for the extended wait, no, "enjoy your meal." It was quite rude. The Greek goddess was pretty bland and my friend's soup was boring. The Falafel pita was ok. We have lots of options for lunch in Washington DC. I will not return to this establishment, ever.

Cacio e Pepe: some of the best I've had in DC. Creamy, cheesy sauce cut with the perfect bite of black pepper that is obviously high quality and fresh. The pasta itself is perfectly chewy and it's all just glorious with a glass of the Sauvignon Blanc. Linguine al frutte di mare: seafood heaven. Not very spicy at all -- just enough for the enjoyment of it. Plenty of seafood and none of it was overdone. Flavorful sauce and once again perfectly cooked pasta. Hubby devoured but did note that he didn't get shrimp and scallops just crab and squid. Not that it was bad, just that's what he got and he would have liked the shrimp and scallops for balance. A note about the Vanilla soufflé: we wanted it but it takes 20 min to make and we didn't know so we didn't get it -- next time I come I'm getting it and ordering it with my meal. Just something to keep in mind. Pannetone bread pudding: love the concept and the execution. Pannetone makes a great base for bread pudding. Beautiful decor -- very classy and modern. The hostess told us we likely wouldn't sit until 9:45 so I inquired about the bar and the manager quickly stepped in to put us on a waitlist. Since the restaurant is connected to a food hall of sorts, she recommended we grab a drink there while we wait. Shortly after we got our drink, we received notification of an opening and were seated by 8:15. We had the burrata appetizer, Ragú x 2, and the seafood fra diavolo. The burrata was one of the best I've had since they serve it with pesto, pine nuts, and garlic bread. It was truly divine! The Ragú was not far behind. Incredible flavor and a generous portion. The seafood dish had a nice kick and had plenty of seafood, which is not common as of late. All dishes were also priced reasonably for the quality you received. As we sat at the bar, we had pleasant conversation with the bartender and finished our meal with a small cannoli that really sealed the deal.
